November November & December are Minor Ladies Months!
For the month of November, fymagnificentwomen would like to spotlight some of the less-celebrated women of Muhteşem Yüzyıl and Kösem, encouraging content that features characters with minor, guest, or supporting roles in the drama.
Who qualifies as a minor female character? For the sake of clarity, we’ll define minor ladies as those who are either not titled ‘Sultan’, or those who are but not listed in or directly after the opening credits. (An incomplete list of characters may be found below; questions concerning eligibility may be directed to the askbox).
Below is the list of some characters that you may use (for inspiration):
Sultanas and Imperial Mothers: Ayşe Hümaşah, Ayşe [mother of Nergisşah], Beyhan, Esmahan, Fatma, Nazenin, Nergisşah, Rana; Ayşe [daughter of Kösem], Fatma [daughter of Kösem], Hanzade, Hatice Muazzez, Kaya, Saliha Dilaşub.
Cariyes and Favorites: Ahsen, Ayşe [season 1], Cihan, Dilşah, Efsun, Elif, Esma, Firuze, Gülbahar (Olivia), Gülezar, Gülnihal, Helena, Nadia, Nazlı, Nilüfer, Nurbahar, Olga, Rümeysa, Sadika; Afitap, Elanur, Eycan, Firdevs, Gülbahar’s Girl Squad, Katerina, Mahfiruz, Nihan, Sanavber, Şayeste, Şivekar, Yasemin.
Palace Staff: Afife, Canfeda, Daye, Fahriye (Diana), Fidan, Gülfem, Gülşah, Gülşan, Melek, Nigar, Rakel; Cennet, Dudu, Ester Kira, Gölge, Lalezar, Madame Marguerite, Meleki, Menekşe, Narin.
Beyond the Palace: Anna Jagiellon, Armin, Aybige, Cehver, Eftalya, Elenika, Esmanur, Gabriela Sfenzi de Feo, Gracia Mendes Nasi, Isabella Fortuna, Isabella Sforza Szapolyai, Monica Gritti, Rita, Saliha, Silvia, Zeynep; Akile, Catherine of Brandenburg, Falcı, Kalika.
Content featuring relationships with major female or male characters is welcome, permitting there is equal focus on the minor character.
Finally, don’t forget to use the tag #minorladiesmonth to share your creations as part of this month’s event!

“Because there's no other place on earth, where you enter a slave and become a sultana who rules the world.”
“The haseki, a slave concubine and no blood relation to the reigning sultan, ranked higher than the sultan’s own sisters and aunts, the princesses of the dynasty. Her elevated royal status derived from the fact that she was the mother of a potential future sultan.
Kösem was the last of the colorful and influential hasekis of the “sultanate of women”. Henceforth, the position of haseki would lose its special status. The presence of more than one haseki was a significant change in the reigns of Murad and Ibrahim, signaling that the age of the favorite was coming to an end. In this period the meaning of the title haseki begins to shift from a single “favorite” to something more general like “royal consort”, similar to the earlier khatun.”– Leslie P. Peirce - The Imperial Harem: Women and Sovereignty in the Ottoman Empire

Today's episode of "Is it a heavily altered costume or just the same fabric?" is about Nurbanu and Gülbahar.
I wish I had more screenshots of Nurbanu's dress from the same side as Gülbahar but I think she only wears it in one scene in 139. The awkward seam on Gülbahar where the pattern doesn't line up is what made me suspicious and that the dress never appeared again. I'm not too clever about sewing but I could imagine them removing the red part and making the weird added pieces and shoulder caps from the former sleeves. However, this wouldn't be the first time Magnificent Century uses the same fabric for multiple different outfits.
Does anyone remember if Nurbanu maybe wears it in another scene too and I just skipped over it?

"From the middle of the fifteenth century, and possibly earlier, when a prince left the capital for his provincial governorate, he was accompanied by his mother, whose role was to preside over the prince's domestic household and perform her duty of 'training and supervision' alongside the prince's tutor." - The Imperial Harem: Women and Sovereignty in the Ottoman Empire (Studies in Middle Eastern History) by Leslie P.
