Mr.Mom
Taishiro Toyomitsu’s family, it’s mostly girls.
Except for the second oldest
His only boy
Having 7 children he knows his wife is overwhelmed so sometimes
He takes them to the office
AND IT IS CHAOS.
Red Riot getting covered in the chaotic girls screaming to have piggy back rides, the eldest asking to be thrown so she can practice using her quirk at age 10 so she bounces against the walls, literally, while Suneater just sits with the shy little boy looking at bugs and fish in the books he brings so he can show him all the cool new facts at age 9, 5 year old twin girls braiding their dads hair. 8 year old triplets drawing all over his desk with permanent marker. The 5 month old baby sleeping in the crib has has in his office, it’s been there for 10 years. It’s not going anywhere.
Literally. One of the twins sneezed and he or his wife do not know where this quirk came from because her sister has a similar quirk to her dad, except it’s muscle. (a muscly 5 year old is mildly terrifying according to Red Riot) And now it is super glued it to the ground. No matter what you or Taishiro used to try and pry it from the floor. It would stay. You both gave up. Plus it’s in a good spot anyways.
By the time lunch comes around, everyone’s tired and hungry. Luckily his wife knows their kids time. It’s like she has a tracker for exhaustion and hunger. It’s amazing. She already has her quirk but it’s like she has a bonus quirk just for her family, which includes Fatgums sidekicks. She brings them all lunch. Plus, she needs to feed the baby. Baby girl number 7 already drank all the milk he packed for her. Just like her dad. Never satisfied when eating. His beautiful wife (in her hero uniform no less) brought food for everyone. It was suddenly calm. The kids were behaved. Drawing on paper, sitting quietly. Unpacking their lunch. Keeping their quirks in check. Including his sidekicks. Taishiro was in complete awe. Then she left and chaos started all over again. Food was being thrown. Sweet potatoe fries are everywhere. The chaos is never ended if his wife isn’t around when outside the home. At least at home that chaos is contained.
“why are you guys so good when mom is here? I don’t get it?” Taishiro questions, looking at his children, his son looks up at him while eating his rice “Mom says we need to be good when she’s at the office. That’s the rule or else we need to go home.”
“Wait. She has rules for when you guys go to her office?” Fatgum questions,
“Yea” the nonchalant answer from his son makes everything clear, they all need to go home. He looks around.
There is marker everywhere.
There is gum in both the five year olds hair, he doesn’t even know where they gotten gum. Probably from Red Riot. Definetly from Red Riot
Sweet potatoes mashed into his favourite office chair, that stain will never come out of the light orange fabric.
“Okay guys let’s pack up and go home! Moms at work today and we need to get home. Red Riot your coming we’re doing training in my backyard today. Suneater your gonna hang out with my son and you guys can watch the fish channel. Girls you are gonna give Riot resistance training” Taishiro states.
The girls scream and giggle knowing that it will be a fun day.
A few hours later the kids are down for a nap except the oldest two. The sidekicks have left for the day after an exhausting day taking care of the Toyomitsu clan. Taishiro is laying on the floor with the baby on his chest watching My neighbor totoro. They are relaxing. It’s about 5pm and his amazing wife is about to be home. The house is a mess as usual and it’s cleaning day tomorrow.
“Hello love” the light and airy voice of his wife reaches his ears. As the front door swings open.
He glances up to his wife. Some mud on her face. She’s smiling down at him. Her eyes sparkle with love and adoration.
“Good day?” She questions smiling knowing that today has been long as it is when the kids are out of school.
“Messy. But I wouldn’t trade it for the world”
“Thank you for being an amazing dad. Mr.Mom”
He laughs as she goes to sit on the couch with the oldest two. They get excited when they notice she is there. The little boy sits right next to her. She wraps her arms around her oldest children. And they snuggle right in. Once the kids are up again, his wife giggles at the 5 year olds new haircuts due to the gum, ghe 8 year olds are showing her their drawings of their family and you all start to make dinner and start getting ready for bed. It’s about 8pm, you and Taishiro and snuggled on the couch.
“Your amazing for taking care of those kids for so long and being out of the hero game so long” Taishiro states.
“Your amazing for being a great dad” his wife answers looking up at him kissing him softly on the cheek.
The family is messy, and kinda chaotic. But he’s never been surrounded by more love in his entire life. He’s never been happier. He doesn’t know how you do it while also being a hero.
He’s known as a Mr.Mom.
He might be a very popular hero amongst the world community,
But honey, your his hero.
Just had these thoughts and on my god I couldn’t stop.

i went to a showing of my neighbor totoro with my friend and her toddler in a theatre jam-packed with other children, and it is an underrated delight of life to see young kids experience one of your own childhood favorites for the first time. the giggles at the character expressions and shrieks at the exciting bits, and the all out adoration and wonder for the big totoro were so fun to witness.
i still absolutely do not want a child of my own but kids are so cute and it's cool to rewatch the movie and see how much the filmmakers wanted to honor childhood excitement and bravery and families. a very wholesome afternoon.

“Along with the City of Durham, we have made major investments in the Carolina Theatre for the comfort and safety of our guests during our closure,” says Randy McKay, the Carolina Theatre’s President & CEO. “That includes tens of thousands of dollars in new state of the art HVAC upgrades from Global Plasma Solutions (GPS) that remove biohazards, pollen, and other contaminants to make our air as pure — and sometimes purer — than outdoor air.”  The theater has also earned a Global Biorisk Advisory Council® (GBAC) STAR™ accreditation for its cleaning practices to ensure that guests have a safe and enjoyable experience.  “Together, these cleaning practices and advanced air filtration make the Carolina Theatre one of the safest spaces to attend a film or live event in the region,” says McKay.  [source]

8 and 10 for Seven my sweetheart Seven
Seven sweetheart Seven!! 🍓🍓🍓
8. Describe the place where they sleep. (ie what does their safe space look like. How much (or how little) care / decoration / personal touch goes into it.)
Ooh, this question has a funny answer! So, Seven shares a bedroom with Three. BUT! Seven also often sleeps on the floor in the living room! The living room has a fireplace and a big sheepskin rug over a hardwood floor; it's just uncomfortable enough to be familiar (Seven slept on concrete for a long, long time), but just comfortable enough to remove it from Seven's actual experience of how he used to sleep. He sleeps in the living room on particularly good days, when he's feeling safe to be out in common areas of the home unguarded... and also on particularly bad days, when the foreign comfort of a real bed just won't let him sleep.
Seven's room, though, let's talk about that. It's full of origami from Three—so much colorful paper! So many cranes and cats and frogs! So many scraps of paper all over the place! Three is a bit of a pack rat with his possessions. Seven doesn't mind, although it gets on his nerves when Three leaves things on his bed. The bottom bunk of their bunk bed is like Seven's little miniature bedroom; he has curtains around it and a light inside. (Seven's foster family, the Martels, tried having Seven in his own bedroom, but that didn't work out because he was lonely and also didn't feel able to exert control over such a large space. bottom bunk is better. more manageable.)
Seven's "bedroom" has a white blanket with pink-and-purple cupcakes on it (a prized possession), a teddy bear (named Bewilder, very beloved), a pillow (he didn't know what a pillow was when he got it, but he likes it. he named it Snuzz thinking it was a creature like the teddy bear) a journal (as yet unused), and some fairy lights (how is his life real?). His foster family gave him all that as soon as he moved in. As he settles in and starts tentatively asking for things, he starts decorating his space with more pastel colored things and posters of kids' movies. Ratatouille and Lilo & Stitch (although it makes him cry) and My Neighbor Totoro (his comfort movie) are his favorites.
10. What objects do they always carry around with them? (What do they need for their normal, day-to-day routine? What does ‘normal’ even look like for them.)
Seven mostly lives at home, doing homeschooling, helping out on the farm, and baking (as a hobby, not a requirement). The Martels get their income mostly from wheat farming, but they also are hobby livestock farmers and gardeners who raise fancy goats, sheep, and bees, and Seven is really good with animals. The only things he carries with him consistently are hair elastics; he keeps his hair long, but often puts it back in a ponytail for baking or labor.
Carrying comfort objects around with him isn't something that comes naturally to Seven, strangely enough. He feels like he needs to protect his teddy bear and Snuzz, and his instincts tell him that the best way to protect them is to leave them somewhere they're safe.
Thanks for the ask!! :D
Asks open here!

Independent Excursion: Media Reflection
June 8th - Studio Ghibli Museum
For my media reflection, I decided to go to the studio ghibli museum. This worked perfectly for me because I had just watched most of the films prior to coming on this trip, so I was super excited to find out that there was a museum in Tokyo, and I could do my assignment on it. We are so lucky to have Lauren and Eliza. They worked hard at trying to get tickets for everyone, and figured out the website and what to do when it was not looking good and not letting anyone buy tickets. We all headed over to the museum, and was delightfully greeted by the man and myth himself, Totoro. He was working the ticket booth. We gained access to the museum and they gave us a movie ticket that was a film reel of a scene from one of the movies, but unfortunately we were not able to take pictures inside the museum. The whole place was designed like a wonky house, with spiral staircases, bridges, small rooms with minnie doorways. There were lot of different rooms to inspect. One if the bigger areas looked like it would be the workspace of some of the designers of the franchise. With sketches all over the walls and scattered over desks, newspapers, pens, pencils, feather things, lamps, cigarette butts. It felt real, and was very detailed, I was super impressed. There was another room thaw was a little walk through of miniature replicas of some of the main objects or scenes in some of the earlier films.
My favorite room was an interactive display of how film works and other special effects. There was little gear operated sets that you have to crank the handle to get it to work, there was a motion picture display with a bunch of figures molded to be in different points in time that was spun on a wheel really fast so it looks like it’s actually moving. There were these layered pieces that looked 3d because of 2D drawings layered at different points in a box. There was also a film display that had rolls of film being pulled through a processor I’m assuming, and some where highlighted so you could see that when each square goes by fast enough, it looks like a movie. With all these beautiful pieces, and the light hearted music playing, I started to tear up a little because it was so cute and just made me so happy. We took a little break and ate at the cafe, then went back inside to watch the short film they gave us the ticket for. It was a short spin off of the movie My neighbor Totoro. It was the cutest thing ever. We then checked out the gift shop which was absolutely packed so it was hard to see anything. We left and a few of us tried to get these famous Totoro shaped cream puffs from this little shop but once we walked all the way there, we saw the sign that said the cream puffs were sold out. This really brought our mood down because we were looking for it all day, so we just decided to go home after that.
Academic Reflection
Because the museum was highly Totoro themed, I’ll talk about My Neighbor Totoro. The movie, has a realistic set based in Japan. It talks about real life issues and has a lot of aspects representing Japan. To name a few, the main characters house is set in a rice farm town, with the traditional style houses with the wood and paper paneled doors and windows. It also display the main mode of transportation being a bus, and having the working father travel far into town. I would say these are pretty accurate representations of some parts of Japan from what I’ve seen.
We took a trip to a rice farm which consisted of a small town on the outskirts and the rows and rows on farming land, it looked very similar to the movie. The bus transportation is accurate because public transit is very popular here, and the farther away form the busy cities the more scarce the transportation.
As for the clothing, I cannot speak on if it was accurate or not because I believe the movie was set in a different time. The unrealistic parts were definitely the mythical creatures of the forest, and flying bus cats and soot sprites. But who knows, they could be real too and we just dont know it.
