You ever wonder about the possible other parts of “the making of 5sos5”? Because that lives rent-free in my mind, along with “oh, love that guitar” when Bleach comes on
Honestly, I accepted is lost to the dropbox, right next to the slfl album, the mytt footage and the Ashton talks to Michael video.

Wait, you actually prefer lie to me with Julia? This is fascinating, please tell me more about it ksoskoskspsos
i actually really do!! i just think that the regular version is..... not boring, but it feels lacking? to me at at least, compared to all the other version we have of it! julia got a really nice voice that goes nicely with luke's and i really like that there's a female perspective in that song as well!!! i love that she's in a way answering for what he's saying in the song!!!! i just love woman!!!
you didn't ask but here's my ranking of the lie to me versions: ft. julia michaels, acoustic, mytt live, single

A comparison of two orthographies: Jakobsen vs Hammershaimb
Faroese for many centuries scarcely existed in written form, and in the latter half of the 19th century, there was a revival during which multiple written versions of Faroese were proposed. V.U. Hammershaimb's orthography ultimately won out, and is the one still in use today; it uses an archaic system that makes written Faroese resemble Icelandic much more than the spoken language does. However, in some writings from the time period you can also see a very different system developed by Jakob Jakobsen, which looks like this:
Ja, fryhait live hökt hænda dä, o adlar trödlkonur liggje tit haima! tit tryvast so idla y kátun lä, mæn fejin kjá manne á kåddanun dråima; til Blåksbjörg tit rænne, og här tit brænne til tæss ät svart verur tikkara ænne, y smildur fer! y smildur fer!
-- Ain skægvarfer by Billa Hansen, 1892
In Hammershaimb's orthography, Ein skógvarferð would look like this:
Ja, fríheit livi høgt henda dag, og allar trøllkonur liggið tit heima! tit trívast so illa í kátum lag, men fegin hjá manni á koddanum droyma; til Bloksbjørg tit rennið, og har tit brennið, til tess at svart verður tykkara enni, í smildur fer! í smildur fer!
For another example, I'll use Vesturatt (Vesturætt) by R.C. Effersøe:
Úr ödlun attun koma vindar, tó attin ain mär dámar bæst: hon fór ymidlun fjadlatindar, här sum e häve vinfölk flæst. Kom, svaima, mjúkje væstanvindur, út ivir äkrar gjögnun skægv! tú svälir jarta mytt aitt sindur, tú minnir me á blåan sjægv.
In modern Faroese orthography, that would be
Úr øllum ættum koma vindar, tó ættin ein mær dámar best: hon fór ímillum fjallatindar, har sum eg havi vinfólk flest. Kom, sveima, mjúki vestanvindur, út yvir akrar gjøgnum skógv! tú svalir hjarta mítt eitt sindur, tú minnir meg á bláan sjógv.
So Jakobsen's orthography was clearly more phonetically consistent, while Hammershaimb's orthography is inspired by the Icelandic system (though in fairness to Hammershaimb there are phonetic inconsistencies in modern Icelandic orthography, as well).
So, why did Hammershaimb's system win out? The answer is that, as Faroese was at the time struggling to be recognized as its own independent language -- rather than a dialect, specifically of Danish -- the goal was to emphasize its remaining similarity to Old Norse and thus its distance from the Scandinavian languages. At the same time, it was hoped that the etymologically-based spelling would make words recognizable as being descended from Old Norse, which all other proposed orthographic systems -- such as Jakobsen's -- would not.
Hammershaimb's orthography did undergo some changes in the years immediately following its proposal. Initially, while the nominative spellings of words were to be made as close to Icelandic as possible, certain features which made Faroese distinct were to be included, such as the dative ending -um being pronounced -un. These post-facto changes were minimal, however.

okay I have to say. I think I get it. As in I think I understand what was going thru mikey’s head and why he simply had to record that song naked. like sometimes you just gotta do weird unhinged things to take back that feeling of autonomy. it’s like self care. Feeds the creative process!! and I do feel like esp with the only reason (like it’s intro in mytt?!?!) michael loves to put his whole creative spin on it in any way possible and it’s a double edged sword in that it’s so easy to feel boxed in when you’re so incredibly creative and tbh as far as solutions to that go no one got hurt and we get to have a little wtf moment 10 years later. trying not to sound too defensive abt it but also—the autonomy and creativity thing is very personal to me and from experience it’s so easy to turn to destructive things to feel some of it or to burn out and get caught by the embarrassment and lose all your creativity too. I know we’ll never know exactly why (and I can’t project my own experience onto someone whenever they do something that feels relatable) but I’m just so glad he got to be unhinged in a harmless if weird way bc so many of us don’t get that kind of freedom. like I didn’t ever see myself saying ‘glad he’s a white man’ abt anyone ever but it’s true!! I’m just glad it didn’t blow up tbh and I’m glad he’s living as his weird creative self both now and back then. you (and anon) sent me down an interesting thought spiral!
Honestly, I think that definitely could've played a part. And I feel you, the unhingedness feeds into the creativity for sure. And with the way he's one of the only ones with writing credits for the song, he might've wanted to do something to make the experience of recording it more unique. This is definitely an interesting thought spiral.
