💅🏻 ~Manicure Monday~ 💅🏻

Hi everyone! After sticking to a schedule of painting my nails every other week for the past several months, yesterday I decided to get them done at a salon. I treated myself to a manicure and pedicure, which was a nice break after doing them myself all year. The color I’m wearing is called Strawberry Margarita from the OPI Mexico Collection that came out in Spring 2006. It was a Christmas gift from my coworker who had me for Secret Santa last year, and I saved it for the summertime.

The polish is a bright pink crème. It really does make me want to drink a Strawberry Margarita on the beach in Mexico! I can’t really describe the texture of the formula because I didn’t apply it myself, but it appears to be very smooth. This is what it looks like with two coats and a clear topcoat to give it that extra glossy look. I think it looks good on my skin tone because it’s a warm pink as opposed to a cool blue-based pink.

I just want to mention that I am not specifically wearing it because of the new Barbie movie; it’s just a coincidence that I happen to be wearing this color right after it came out. I had already decided to wear it this particular week when I made my schedule for the spring and summer several months ago. But I played with Barbies a LOT when I was younger, so I’m not embarrassed about it. I don’t have plans to see the movie as of right now, but if someone asks me to go see it with them, I will.

I only have one more new polish lined up for August, and then I’ll start getting into the transition colors for the fall!

Two Friends, NOTD & Deerock – Skylight Stage at the Mann – Philadelphia, PA – June 17, 2023

A Night on Planet Two Friends

Two Friends – aka Eli Stones and Mathew Halper – are known for their “Big Bootie Mixes” and their bi-annual festival “Big Bootie Land.” Stones and Halper are longtime friends and musical collaborators. The dance-pop duo has listeners ranging from college kids to grown adults. The pair’s viral remixes of popular songs such as “Mr. Brightside” and “I Miss You” helped them break out into the global dance music landscape.

Their current headline tour, Planet Two Friends, made a stop at the Skyline Stage in Philly on June 17th. The first opener Deerock created a fun atmosphere as fans arrived at the show. He understood the crowd, shouting “Go Birds!” The set ranged from an original song titled “I Remember” to a remix of “Mine” by Taylor Swift.

The second opening act of the night was NOTD, a Swedish pop-dance duo. They brought another level of energy to the night as they took to the stage. The peak was the moment Tobi jumped into the crowd of fans. Their mix of “Unholy” by Sam Smith hyped up the sea of people waiting in excitement.

Finally, it was time for Two Friends to take the stage. Right before they came on, the screen behind the stage displayed Two Friends themed trivia questions. It unified the crowd of fans as they talked amongst themselves in anticipation.

The graphics, lights, and stage design were very on point with the theme of the tour, Planet Two Friends. The intro video made it feel like you were inside of a spaceship. When the duo appeared, they popped out from a UFO where they performed from most of the show. Amongst the lasers and smoke cannons, the UFO even got raised in the air in the middle of the set.

The chemistry between the duo is impossible to miss. It was clear that they were having the time of their lives on stage. Their stage presence was felt by the whole crowd, as the two of them ran around the stage and stood on top of their UFO during their mixes.

They played a number of hits, from “Gimme! Gimme! Gimme! (A Man After Midnight),” to “Electric Love” and throwbacks from “Candy Shop” to “Clarity.” Two Friends also played some original songs including, “Looking at You.”

All in all, this show was a ton of fun. Both Eli and Mathew’s energy was unmatched, not to mention the fans dancing the entire time. Two Friends have a handful of shows left on their summer tour and it would be a shame to miss out on a great night out.

💅🏻 ~Manicure Monday~ 💅🏻

Hi everyone! The temperatures will be cooling down to the sixties and seventies this week, so it’s time to wear a darker color on my nails as we head towards autumn. Here is a review of Violet Metal from the Rimmel Lasting Finish Pro line that used to be available in drugstores up until about ten years ago.

This is an interesting color because it has reddish undertones with blue microglitter. I’d call it more of a grape than violet. Just like the name suggests, it has a metallic finish. It’s not my favorite purple in the world, but I decided to wear it because I haven’t reviewed it yet. It made me want to see if I could find a few more colors from this collection that I don’t own already, so this morning I purchased two more from eBay and I'm eyeing a third. This line has the best formula and brushes that I’ve ever worked with, so I have no idea why they discontinued it.

I normally only wear two coats, but this morning my nails didn’t look quite as good as they did last night, so I applied another one. The third one makes it look significantly darker, and now I like the color a lot better than I did before. The bottle claims that it lasts up to ten days, but in my experience, it starts chipping after about five. But that doesn’t bother me because I’m usually ready to take off my polish after a week anyway. Maybe this time it’ll last closer to ten days with the extra coat.

I’ve worn this color in April and September before because I think it’s appropriate for both spring and fall. I will save my oranges and browns for October and November when the leaves start to change. But first I’ll wear and review one of the new colors I ordered today in about two weeks, so make sure you don’t miss it!
