Not too long after Louis, it was his twin sisters' birthday. Emma had spent all morning in the kitchen, baking sweet treats for the party, and soon, bit by bit, all immediate family arrived to celebrate.

With a cuddle and a kiss, it was time to send Ruby and Dorothy off to be yet another year older. Although, to Emma and Niall, it felt like they were only just born yesterday.

In toddlerhood, just as when they were younger, Emma still insisted on dressing the girls in matching dresses at all times, with Ruby wearing green and Dorothy wearing the same in red. This was not going to change any time soon, for as long as she had any say in dressing them.

Their personalities were only just developing, but it became clearer than before that Dorothy was a much more energetic child than her sister, even more so than she was as a baby. Meanwhile, Ruby's tendency to seek the protection of her parents and to stick near her younger sister was manifesting more now as well. Either way, their bond as twins was still as strong as ever, that much was clear.

Need to ramble about SW to distract myself from everything going on.

Something that's stuck with me about Ahsoka beyond, like, everything is how happy I am for Genevieve O'Reilly? Because I mean, look at how insane the last twenty (!!!) years have been.

She was cast as young Mon Mothma around 2003 (I don't remember exactly when, but I remember seeing a pic from them doing a wig test that was dated 2003 a little while ago). She got all but one of her scenes cut out of Revenge of the Sith (don't get me started on that I'm still mad about those scenes being cut for so many reasons) and the only one that stayed in is a scene where she doesn't even speak, and that's it. There's publicity photos and some deleted scenes, and that was her Star Wars legacy for eleven years.

And then she gets a co-starring role in Rogue One, getting to play the character again.

And then again in Rebels, getting to deliver half of what I think is one of the best dialogue exchanges about the Rebellion's philosophy—so basically half of Star Wars itself's entire philosophy—that I've ever heard.

And then again in Andor, as a main character, with all her complexities and just like everything about it because it's so flipping good.

And now here she is again in Ahsoka, playing the character past the timeframe of the original role, as a leader, getting to build on practically everything she's done before now.

And now she's not just portraying 'younger Mon Mothma', she is portraying Mon Mothma, she's the definitive version (at least to me, no shade to OG actress Caroline Blakiston) and everyone I've seen and heard talk about her since Andor loves the character.

Just. I love Mon Mothma. I am so happy for Genevieve O'Reilly.

Now that I've slept and had more time to think about things…

Anyone not named Vlatko can see the serious personnel and tactical issues his approach created. At this point there isn't time left to fix it all, and barring a radical epiphany from the manager our progression is probably going to depend on the ability to win ugly and grind out a result. Prior USWNT squads could, but I wonder whether Vlatko has destroyed too much of the mentality that helped us do it.

I think about the 2011 WC quarterfinal against Brazil, playing with 10, suffering a disaster of a referee, and backs to the wall. The team fought and found a goal at the death through Rapinoe's cross and Wambach's header for the ages. Yes we went to penalties, but I remember watching and just knowing that match was as good as won when the tying goal rippled the back of the net.

Then came the 2012 Olympic semi-finals when Canada led three times, and three times the US fought back and equalized. It was an ugly slog of a match, but then came the 123rd minute and "Space on the right hand side for Heather O'Reilly. Morgan in the box, Wambach in the box, here comes the cross. Oh it's IN! Alex Morgan has done it!"

We can go back further to the 2008 Olympic final against Brazil, where we ground it out into extra time before scoring. To the 2004 version, again against Brazil, where the US led, Brazil tied and smacked two off the post, but Lilly to Wambach off a corner well into extra time won gold.

We can also talk about the 2015 WC semifinal against Germany when the relief of Celia Sasic's missed penalty helped catalyze the team into a win. Or the momentum shift after Naeher's save in the 2019 WC semi battle against England.

There are any number of matches where the USWNT was behind or struggling, but we just knew, despite it all, that the team was going to win or die trying. Despite Vlatko's "best" efforts, I think the mentality that created that legacy is still within our current team, however dormant. That's a legacy the current squad has to live up to, but it's also something they can still build on. I have no doubt the veterans are trying to reforge the mentality, self-belief, and team cohesion as strongly as possible in the time they have left. My biggest concern is that Vlatko won't get out of the way (or be pushed out of the way) to let it flourish in time to do any good.

🥰 ship-to-ship combat (pomeloquat) - 76K, SuperBat - "Clark, in an attempt to make some spare cash, unintentionally stumbles into the world of superhero fanfiction, becomes a prolific writer for Gotham's OTP, and tries his best to fend off rival fans who want him to convert to superbat instead." - extremely funny and delightful identity porn fic

🥰 Tension and Tonic (Zenaidamacrouras1) - 78K, cellist!Bucky/artist!Steve, one night stand that develops feelings. Mostly hilarious, with some fantastic characterizations, especially of the supporting characters. Fic does go to some pretty dark thoughts very briefly but ultimately the vibe I ended up with was much more on the funny side of the scale.

A Letter from "Crawly" to Azirapil (mostlydeadlanguages) - Good Omens: Aziraphale & Crowley, 486 words - actual cuneiform on actual clay tablets, 'translated'. Our boy Ea-Nasir gets a shoutout. Fan makers are amazing.

After the twins had been put to bed, and all the guests had arrived, it was finally time for everyone to gather around the birthday cake Emma had baked earlier that day. Louis could hardly wait to blow out the candles and have the family around celebrating him.

Dressed in his best little party suit, Louis climbed atop the chair at the end of the dining table, where the cake was placed. He was determined to blow out the candles all by himself this time.

For Louis, entering childhood started with putting on the new sailor suit his grandparents had bought for him and showing it off. Soon he was running around the house, ready to fight pirates and hang out with mermaids. Did I just spend like 30 minutes making this ?? ... I sure did. So this is one of the families/households I created for my marion save and Macie ( the blonde female sim ) is actually Simon’s ( Ayla’s husband ) sister. So they do have some connection.
