uhh idk how trigger warnings work exactly (I never really have to use them) but after the wave photos there will be dead fish from red tide
all there really is is 2 not freshly dead small cowfish, a crab shell, and some vertebrae from an unidentified animal.
so uh yeah. the beach was fun, but there was a lot of old, crusty washed-up dead fish. I was kinda afraid to step anywhere bc ik I would hate that feeling. I did keep three of the cowfish I saw bc they didn't have flesh on them (two are pictured) and I really wish that I was able to keep the large vertebrae. I sadly didn't have a bag :[
I went for a sneaky mooch at Matheson today this arvo. When Sid and I pulled up heaps of people were hanging out in the sunshine, so we stopped and had a chat, then Lucy, Māhina and Kahu offered to watch Sid (so he could hang out and play) while I went off for a dive. Lucky boy!
The afternoon sun threw big shadows over the rocks and there were a couple of eagle rays... one rather large one in the ecklonia chomping on something... until I spooked it and it did a flamboyant exit!
I’m also seeing a lot more black sea urchins nowerdays and some seagrass patches growing close to the shore too. I can’t help but wonder how much the pollution running down river contributes to these ‘new residents’.
Still, nice to get in... and the vis should be better again tomorrow - lets see!
