rewatching The Avengers (2012) and my takeaway this time was just… we were not crazy. seriously. we were not delusional or fooling ourselves for believing the Avengers were gonna be an amazing team that cared about each other. the set-up was there. the potential was there.

sometimes I wonder if it’s ever emasculating for the og avengers knowing that the only woman among them is also the most talented and attractive one. she eats them all up in every damn category 😭 like do they ever secretly loathe her a little on the inside? Lmao

So during this episode we learn about Bruce’s relationships with the other OG avengers- namely Tony and Natasha for how they helped him both as Hulk and as Bruce. But what I find most interesting is his discussion of Steve. While obviously the scenes of this are funny because of Jen, Bruce seems very cagey about Steve, which leads me to some thoughts about their relationship.
Were they friends? Sure, but more work friends than real friends.
I get the sense from both this discussion and Bruce’s jealousy of Jen’s transformation that Bruce kind of resents Steve. After all, Bruce became the Hulk, which he hated for years (even attempting s**cide,) trying to recreate the super soldier serum. A part of him is always going to hate how easy it was for Steve while Bruce went through so much pain.
I could be wrong, and I hate to ruin anyone’s OG six fluffy headcanons (which I do love myself), but this is just what I think based on the first episode of She Hulk

swing and a miss
“How the hell are you still conscious, right now?”
Clint forgets sometimes that he’s amongst superhero’s but watching Steve take three blows to the head, he’d been sure that that he’d find his friend unconscious.
Tony lands next to him and pulls him up off the ground.
“Just lucky I guess?” Steve says ruefully.
They all laugh, knowing it’s likely not luck.
It becomes an in-joke when they’re fighting.
Someone gets hit in the head and everyone asks how they’re still conscious.
They all laugh and shake it off and get on with the fight.
Until Natasha.
The back hand and follow up pistol whip sends her to the floor, unmoving and oblivious to the fight around her.
Panic strengthens all of them as they rush to get to her.
Clint is first, followed by Tony, then Steve.
He coordinates the action, directing Tony to take her and move her to safety, whilst he and Steve finish the rest of the Hydra goons.
The quinjet, isn’t far, and he almost wants to tell Steve to go on ahead. Make sure Nat is okay, and leave him here and let him catch up.
He knows what concussion looks like and he knows how dangerous it can be.
The memory loss, the headaches, the feeling that your brain is scrambled. He thinks they’re lucky to have gone this long without someone being injured.
He hates that it’s Natasha.
They’re only human.
He’s met by Tony, his helmet removed at the foot of the ramp.
“Is she okay?”
Tony nods.
“She’s asking about you.”
Clint’s heart stutters and he heads inside, finding Natasha sitting on the edge of a seat in the belly of the jet.
“Oh thank god.”
Steve wanders in after and finds her sitting.
“How are you still conscious right now?” he deadpans.
Clint musters a smile, and asks how she is; there’s already a bruise forming on half her face and Steve cringes.
“Had to be one of us, I suppose,” she says slowly.
Clint sits next to her and the others make use of themselves by readying the jet.
“Tell me,” he asks, “it’s just us.”
“Nothing I haven’t had before,” she whispers.
He touches her face gently, wincing at her upcoming bruise.
He knocks heads with her and sighs.
“Don’t do that again yeah?”

Until the show comes out, my headcanon for why Bruce and Jen were talking about Steve Rogers being a virgin is that Jen first asked about Bruce’s love life. Bruce says he hasn’t had much of a love life since “Age of Ultron”, which leads to Jen wondering the same about the other OG Avengers.
Bruce then says something along the lines of, “Well, Tony is a playboy, Clint literally has three kids, and Thor is a prince. Nat and I are in the same boat, you know that already. Steve...I’m...not sure actually.”
Jen asks for more info on Steve, leading into the virginity conversation.

Aaw *chuckles* thanks! That’s funny honestly.
And this is a really interesting question @indoraptorgirlwind Hhhmmm.
Soooo I’m gonna do the OG Avengers, because if I try to expand, it’ll take a while.
So I think…
Tony and Nat would be velociraptors
Bruce would be a stegosaurus
Clint would be a pterodactyl
And you know what? I can’t decide if Thor should be a triceratops and Cap a T-Rex or if Cap should be the triceratops and Thor the T-Rex.
Tough choice really.

Why no one's talking about this?
Hela is back, Strange is back! So many other new characters are there! Odin vs Shang-Chi's father. Scarlet Witch! Thor looks pretty cool, I guess it's a new look of his now! Tony and Steve🥹

Conversation
Scarlett Johansson: Favourite horror movie? Mine’s Hereditary.
Robert Downey Jr: Poltergeist.
Jeremy Renner: The Conjuring.
Chris Evans: High School Musical. After watching it, I spent my whole time in high school terrified that the entire school would start singing something and I’d be the only one who didn’t know the lyrics.

New art? Sure! Apparently I’m in the mood to draw a lot at the moment. Two will come in short succession but I wanted to give both of them the space they deserve as very different things.
This came to me randomly, it’s supposed to be watercolour looking but I’m still considering having an attempt at doing it as a physical watercolour rather than a digital one. We’ll see what happens.
I do believe that Natasha didn’t want to die. I also feel that she wasn’t scared to die, that she had lost so much and we can see that in how she is clearly depressed after the five years jump in Endgame (the hair growing out that she doesn’t care about, the messy table, there are even prescription bottles on the table). I believe that Natasha knew she was giving the avengers and her family (including the avengers as family, the Barton’s kids and Laura, and of course Yelena) the best chance to win and I 100000% agree that she made the most heroic decision in the entire MCU.
She had no regrets.
Gamora didn’t get to chose. She was forced into her death but even then she was a hero. She had protected the secret of the soul stone as long as she could. She had chosen to die, but not at the hands of Thanos and not in the way he forced her to. She was brave and strong, devoted and noble to the end.
She had no choice.
Gamora’s quote came to me straight away, it’s actually almost a part of my dissertation title, and inspired by the wording on the Animals in War memorial in London. ‘They had no choice.’ I hope people don’t see it as an insult but I can very much relate Gamora’s sacrifice to the ones made by animals involved in warfare. Although, unlike the animals, Gamora knew the wider stakes of everything that was happening, she had the same bravery and loyalty to the cause and the same love for her family as the dogs, cats, horses and pigeons had to their handlers through both the world wars and since.
I hope you all like this piece, I’d love to make it a proper art piece which I can sell and such but I am still searching for a good platform (I tried to use Redbubble but they don’t allow marvel fanart with their licensing and I don’t want to use something like Etsy where you have to pay to use the service. I also love redbubble as the artist doesn’t have to do the same level of work as doing it all on their own. I’d love some tips from other fanart creators if you have any suggestions of places to try…?

Thanks in advance :)

broken pieces floating by
Tony’s flat in Brooklyn is more like a loft. Clint feels out of place and he doesn’t understand why Natasha said yes to this in the first place.
He hates the forced socialisation of meeting people, and had only agreed because Natasha had said to Pepper that they would.
He never knows what to do with himself when she’s occupied except pour himself a drink and find a place out of the way to drink it. It’s exactly what he does.
He spots Natasha chatting to another, and she catches his eye. Unbeknownst to the woman she’s talking to, she signs that she’ll be with him soon.
Clint steps onto the balcony, the cold night air refreshing against the fake heat of the loft. He looks back to find Natasha making her way to him.
“It’s funny, isn’t it,” she greets him, taking his drink and sipping it, “how in a room so full of people that you can feel so alone. That no one in there thinks like us, or has even remotely the same life experience.”
He takes his drink back and nods.
“I don’t know why you like coming to these things, wouldn’t you prefer to be at home with Lucky and Liho, watching a movie?”
Natasha shrugs.
“Sometimes it’s nice to pretend that we could fit in.”
Clint doesn’t quite feel the same but knows what she means.
“What? That we aren’t broken?”
She looks to him harshly.
“Just because we prefer each others company, and likes to stay home, doesn’t mean we’re broken Clint.”
He sips his drink and raises his eyebrows.
“It just means that we value time together over that in a crowd.”
“Mmm.”
His nonchalance seems to irritate her.
“We aren’t broken, Clint.”
She laughs.
“Well. Not because of this anyway.”
He hands her the drink and sits.
They’re met by Tony, who raises his glass.
Then by Pepper.
Steve follows next.
Bruce shortly after.
Maria joins in, and lastly Phil.
The conversation becomes easier and Natasha nudges him.
“See,” she says under her breath. “Not broken.”

My girlfriend went to Disneyland recently and got me one of the AvengerCon t-shirts from “Ms. Marvel” as a souvenir, the one that lists several superheroes in a row. It’s an amazing gift, but I only just realized now that in naming the “big” heroes of the MCU, Marvel left out Hawkeye. All the other OG Avengers are there.
Clint just can’t catch a break lol.
