in which luke witnesses your shot at the national championship.

If you could tell the hockey gods to go to hell at this moment, you would not hesitate.

March 24, 2024. Whittemore Center Arena, University of New Hampshire. The University of Wisconsin vs. The Ohio State University. 2 vs. 1. A little over eight minutes left in the game. The score? 0-0.

Despite outshooting Wisconsin throughout the entire game, you had not scored a single goal. You had had a few close chances, sliding in past Wisconsin’s defensemen a few times, but just couldn’t convert. At this point, you were thanking Raygan for her outstanding performance in goal. But most definitely not the hockey gods.

The voice of Coach Muzerall fluttered through your ears as she told you all to give it everything you got. You were sure Mark Johnson was giving the same speech to his girls at the opposing bench, but honestly, you were too nervous to care. Your eyes wandered around the arena in hopes of finding the only person who could offer any comfort at the moment — Luke.

Unfortunately, Luke had missed the past few games of the NCAA tournament — even your earlier Frozen Four game against Clarkson — because of his schedule with the Preds. Luckily for you, the team was rewarded with a complete off day after their win over Detroit last night. So Luke did the only he could think of. He bought a plane ticket to Durham as soon as he landed in Nashville, and ubered to the arena in order to see you play. You woke up to a text saying that he’d be there, and were beyond excited (and relieved).

As you skated onto the ice in preparation to resume the game, you were able to locate him about halfway up in the stands. He was on his feet, decked up in his scarlet and gray apparel, with a buckeye necklace hanging around his neck. In his hands was a sign that read ‘BUCKEYES > BUCKY’. A small smile crept its way onto your face, wondering where he would have even gotten the materials to make it, but you didn’t care. His support meant everything.

After moving your eyes off of Luke, you focused on Cayla Barnes, who was stationed off to the right of you. She gave you a quick nod, and you knew she meant business. Just as you focused your attention back on the ice, the puck had dropped, with the Badgers winning the draw.

You quickly moved into your own zone, parking yourself in front of the nearest Wisconsin player, which happened to be Britta Curl. The puck passed back and forth between a few of the players before Laila Edwards ended up taking a shot. Raygan managed to kick save it out of your zone as most of your teammates went to make a line change.

They weren’t quick enough, however. Wisconsin had managed to quickly pass the puck out of their zone to center ice, where Curl was waiting patiently with her stick. The puck fell into line perfectly as she entered your zone. You rushed back as fast as you could as you saw Raygan prepare for a wrist shot, and somehow managed to poke the puck away as you tangled up with her. This time, the puck landed right on Cayla’s stick.

Cayla quickly rushed up ice as you let out a small breath. You followed suit, backing her up in case a Wisconsin player managed to steal the puck back. It didn’t take long, however, for Cayla to find Hannah Bilka at center ice, with Joy Dunne on her tail.

You held your breath as the puck landed on Joy Dunne’s stick. If there was one person who wasn’t going to fail you, it was her. She was your team’s leading point scorer with 38 points on the year (23 of which were goals), the WCHA Rookie of the Year, and the NCAA Rookie of the Year. Almost immediately, she sent the puck flying right past McNaughton’s glove and into the goal.

Cheers erupted from the ice, bench, and stands as you were swallowed up into a team huddle by the glass. Joy excitedly made an “O-H” with her hands before embracing you all and making her way to the bench. You smiled softly and looked up at the clock — 7:13 left in the third. You skated off the ice and Stephanie Markowski took your place by center ice.

Locating Luke again, a bright smile was plastered wide across his face as he watched the replay. He had met Joy, who you embraced as a little sister, when he had come to campus to visit you earlier during the all star break. Needless to say, he was proud of her, as anyone should be. What you didn’t know, however, is just how proud he was of you. Your defensive poke-check set the scoring play into motion and here you were just over seven minutes away from winning the national championship.

Time couldn’t have passed more slowly for you as the clock wound down. Wisconsin had created many more scoring opportunities, but just couldn’t convert (you had to thank Raygan once again). You were back on the ice with two minutes to go, scrambling back into the defensive zone as the Badgers pulled McNaughton in order to gain an extra attacker. Your heart raced as you saw Casey O’Brien rush onto the ice, skating swiftly towards your goal.

You knew nothing good was going to happen if you couldn’t calm down. So, as the puck was passed to Ava Murphy, you took a deep breath and raced in front of her as she wound up for a slap shot. As she let go of the puck, you dove in front of it, the puck redirecting off of your ankle and into neutral territory.

Man, did that hurt like a motherfucker. The crowd simultaneously grimaced and cheered for you as you recollected yourself off of the ice. You swear you could hear Luke’s voice yelling your name out of the entire crowd, telling you to get up and kick ass.

The puck was quickly regathered by Caroline Harvey as she circled through neutral ice, waiting for her teammates to reenter the zone. Once completed, the puck was passed to Lacey Eden as Emma Peschel tried to poke it away, but in vain. Caroline passed it to Charla Edwards, who lined up to take a shot from the blue line. None of your teammates were guarding her, so you did what you had to do. You once again skated up and prepared your body to be hit with a hard piece of vulcanized rubber. When it did, you fell to the ground, but got right back up as cheers erupted once again.

“Let’s go, Y/N!” Quinn Kuntz yelled from the bench, and you struggled to skate, but the puck had bounced right back to Edwards. Instead of trying to move around you, she wound up for another slap shot, but that one didn’t get past you either. The puck once again hit your body as you blocked the shot, falling to the ice once again. Finally, Emma was able to clear the zone as the puck raced towards the other end of the ice.

At that moment, you used your stick to propel you towards the bench. You knew you weren’t seriously injured — you’d just have a few bad bruises here and there — but your body hurt like a bitch from taking all of those shots. You were greeted with pats on the back from all your teammates on the bench as Hannah jumped back on in your place. You smiled softly as a response, focusing on the jumbotron to see the time left in the game.

One minute. If you could hold off Wisconsin for one minute, you would be a national champion. You watched anxiously as your teammates tried to clear the zone towards the now empty net of Wisconsin, but to no avail. Finally, Joy had managed to send it down the length of the ice, which forced a quick line change. You hopped on the ice with around 30 seconds left and made your way into the defensive zone yet again.

Since McNaughton was pulled, the Badgers had an extra attacker, which made it harder to defend your goal than usual. You weren’t going to give up that easily, however. The puck was passed back in forth between the six Badgers on the ice, each one of them waiting for the perfect shot. The clock wound down as the puck finally landed on Sophie Hegleson’s stick.

Everything seemed to move in slow motion. You could hear nothing as you once again forced yourself to skate in front of her, knowing that this goal would change the trajectory of the game. Your teammates were counting on you, so you were going to give it your all. You braced yourself for impact as the puck hit your back, your body sacrificing itself for the win exactly as the buzzer went off.

The game was over. You were officially a national champion. The sounds of your teammates yelling filled your ears as you let your body collapse to the ice, both in pain and in shock. You took your helmet off to gather yourself as a small smile made its way across your face. You had done it.

Emma skated over to you and pulled you up off of the ice, and you both rushed over to join the dog pile of your teammates on top of Raygan. Although you couldn’t see him, Luke was smiling down at you, a look of immense pride present on his face. He fumbled with the buckeye necklace hanging around his neck as he couldn’t contain his excitement, knowing that you were a national champion.

After you all had settled down and received your medals (but not before shaking hands and congratulating Wisconsin on their tremendous effort), you were allowed to bring family members and friends onto the ice to take pictures. As Luke made his way onto the ice, you excitedly skated over to him, and his arms were wide open to catch you. You smiled widely, your eyes shining brightly, “I did it, Luke. I really did it.”

He cupped your face with his hands, nodding his head in agreement, “You did it, my love. I’m so fucking proud of you.”

You smiled brightly up at him again, your eyes swelling with tears. Luke pulled you into another hug, gently kissing the top of your head, “Go celebrate with your teammates. I’ll be right here waiting for you when you’re done.” He reassured, giving you a soft smile as he wiped away some stray tears that had fallen with the pads of his thumbs. You nodded, skating over and joining Joy. When you were finally given the trophy after she did, you hoisted it high up into the air, ready to show it off to the entire world.

After all, it’s always been Ohio against the world.

Seeing the difference in coverage (news media vs social media) on the Feb 3rd train derailment in East Palestine, Ohio, USA on and all the issues caused by the incident, I want to see something;

The incident summed up (and there may be even more I missed):

train carrying 150 cars, twenty of which contained hazardous materials, derailed due a failure of a wheel bearing, due to poor inspection because inspections were cut from 3 minutes per train to 90 secs per train. (Remember the railroad strike? Yeah. Part of what they wanted, in addition to better conditions, was more time to inspect trains and to get faulty parts fixed. They were refused, and now we're here.)

the derailment (of 50 cars) caused a fire which threatened to make a car(s) with the vinyl chloride explode, so a controlled release (burn) of the vinyl chloride (toxic, flammable gas) was done to prevent this

residents within a 1 mile radius were evacuated beforehand

the event resulted in contamination of the air/water and mass deaths of animals like fish and chickens

residents were told it's safe to return home a week after the evacuation, and found their pets dead; water smells wrong; air smells and/or burns their eyes

People miles away are having the same issues with animals dying (schools of dead fish in water, livestock sick/dying) and water contamination

The chemicals are contaminating the Ohio River Basin (which is more than just the Ohio River, and effects/includes KY, WV, TN, IN, OH, and parts of IL, PA, VA, and NC) and could potentially also lead to the whole Mississippi River Watershed being contaminated. (that's like, 40% of the continental United States and starts to touch into Canada.)

I LOVE when people just...admit this.

This is just straight up not true. Even ignoring the little rhetorical game of "not a democracy, a republic" (which is like saying a square isn't a rectangle) the EC is not the reason we are a republic. We're a republic because we elect representatives, rather than taking a general election vote on legislation directly. The EC has nothing to do with that.

The Electoral College has other advantages. It asserts that all the states matter, big and small. States are political entities whose elected officials are by definition closer and more accountable to the people they serve...This means states must at some level compete with one another to improve the lives of their residents

This offers neither evidence nor even REASONING for why the Electoral College would mean that states have to be receptive to their citizens quality of life or freedoms. It's literally a non-sequitur.

The Electoral College also makes sure that presidential candidates don’t spend all their time in the most populated areas of the country.

This one is a popular claim, but is also just straight up ignores reality. YES, the EC means that candidates don't just campaign in the states with the largest populations. Instead it means that they only campaign in SWING STATES. Two thirds of the presidential and vice-presidential post-convention campaign events were conducted in just four states in 2012 (Ohio, Florida, Virginia, and Iowa).

Why this is somehow better, no one has bothered to explain.

ethnically concentrated regions of countries all across the globe have seen brutal violence and outright war because their political interests were ignored by far-away majorities who ruled over them. The electoral college helps mitigate that risk by incentivizing presidential candidates to pay attention to all parts of the country.

Not only is "the EC is the reason we don't have civil war" a WILD CLAIM (we DID have a civil war WHILE WE HAD THE EC) it's also built on the assumption that the EC promotes candidates going to all parts of the country. It doesn't.

If you want the presidency, Democrats, win it fair and square.

And this is what I mean when I say the EC encourages people to treat elections like they are a sporting game, or some kind of Risk style board game.

The idea that the *same style of election* we use for EVERYTHING ELSE - govenors, senators, congressmen, mayors, city council, Railroad commisoner- is somehow CHEATING if we were to apply it to the presidency is absolutely mind boggling.

The EC and its points and it's flat red vs blue maps has made people imagine that states are political monoliths. That either you are a Red state or a Blue state and it's a game to see how much of the map you can control and how many points you can get.

This is how the country actually votes. No state is won by larger than a 70% margin. No county or city is 100%.

California had more Trump votes (6 million) than Texas (5.8 million.) Texas had more Biden votes (5.259 million) than New York (5.244 billion). But yall have let those solid red v blue maps rot your brain, and you haven't checked a single claim that supposedly justifies this ass-backwards system.

Do better.

You know what I love? The WttT fandom. Because yesterday, right before the Game (the Ohio State vs Xichigan game), I posted the last chapter of a fic focusing on Ohio and Michigan. In the end notes, I said "go Buckeyes," because, y'know, I love the Buckeyes.

Then, somehow, I commented back and forth with w_a_r_p_e_r for the entirety of the Game, me supporting OSU and them supporting UM, and that might just be one of the best comment threads I've ever had the good fortune to be involved in. I mean, I'm bitter about it (because come on, how did we let you guys win, ugh), but seriously, it was such a fun conversation! What other fandom could have something like that?

And this is only one example! I could go on about everything I see, both on Tumblr and AO3, both on my content and others'. I have never been in a fandom where the good outweighs the bad as heavily as it does in the WttT fandom.

I'm just saying, guys. Y'all are awesome.

She’s a writer who is immediately memorable to those who’ve read her fics, from large scale intrigue plots to 1-2 chapter character driven self-indulgence, her work always stands out. I would say she’s especially relevant having recently participated in the tumblr pshmirtz wedding event, and having concluded her novel-length “Better Left Unsaid” fic in late 2023.

I met her because she decided to write a fic about a Perryshmirtz comic I made that got shared a bit and messaged me with it in dms, and was so nice that we never stopped talking. Manages her adult woman real life job and still has a creative out put rate higher than most people will accomplish in half the time. I can tell you she puts lots of love and research in to them too. I recently made her a 2 part floor plan for an upcoming PnF mystery fic she’s writing, just because she wanted to be absolutely sure where everything and everyone was to plan the story more effectively. Girl cares about the quality of her writing! And did I mention english isn’t her first language? She’s a God amongst men. I also remember her researching the state of Ohio to be accurate in “Better Left Unsaid” (my favorite thing from her,) which she really didn’t need to do. Always going the extra mile.

Gov. Ron DeSantis signed a Florida bill prohibiting children under 14 from joining social media.

Parents can sue social media companies for $10k for not promptly deleting an account of a child under 14.

Similar bills signed in other states have faced constitutional challenges from NetChoice LLC.

A new Florida bill could open the floodgates for parents to sue for up to $10,000 if social media companies fail to remove flagged accounts of their underage children in a timely manner.

The new bill, HB3, was signed by Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis on Monday. It prohibits children under 14 from being on social media. Children ages 14 and 15 need their parent's consent to join the platform.

The Florida Gov. argued pedophiles are taking advantage of children on the apps. The Speaker of the Florida House, Paul Renner, echoed those concerns and also brought up mental health concerns associated with the platforms.

"You can have a kid in the house safe seemingly and then you have predators that can get right in there into your own home," DeSantis said at the bill signing ceremony. "You can be doing everything right, but they know how to manipulate these different platforms."

The bill requires social media companies to delete already existing accounts that belong to children under 14, by the child's request within five business days, or a parent's request within 10 business days. For 14 or 15-year-old children, the account must be confirmed by a parent. If it isn't, the user has 90 days to file a dispute before being terminated.

Companies that allow minors access after being aware of their age could be responsible for up to $50,000 in penalties or fines per violation if the charges are found to be a "consistent pattern of knowing or reckless conduct."

Parents can also sue companies on behalf of their child if the platform doesn't comply and take down the account, potentially receiving up to $10,000 in damages.

Privacy vs. protection

While the legislation is set to go into place by January 2025, Stacey Lee, a professor of law & ethics at the Johns Hopkins Carey Business School said the bill will likely face "significant legal obstacles" related to First Amendment issues.

Lee said regulating social media has become a "hot-button political issue," but these efforts are consistently met with constitutional hurdles, which DeSantis has acknowledged.

The bill's effectiveness in preventing minors from accessing social media also remains questionable, Lee said.

"Regulating the digital landscape for minors without infringing on these principles presents a formidable challenge calling for thoughtful consideration and innovative solutions," Lee said.

Other states with similar bills like California, Utah, Ohio, and Arkansas, have been challenged by tech coalition NetChoice LLC for signing similar laws. Both California and Arkansas received preliminary injunctions and Ohio received a temporary restraining order on its social media law, according to spokesperson Krista Chavez. The case in Utah hasn't had its hearing yet.

NetChoice is a major coalition of social media platforms opposing these restrictions and it includes TikTok, Meta, Google, and X among others. NetChoice has cited privacy concerns in its reasoning against these kinds of laws.

Chavez said NetChoice has repeatedly expressed constitutional concerns with HB3 in public statements, testimony, and in a letter to Gov. DeSantis about the bill.

NetChoice Vice President & General Counsel Carl Szabo referred to HB3 as a "bad policy" in a statement shared with BI.

Szabo said the bill poses a data risk because it forces users to hand over sensitive personal information to websites or lose their access to information channels. It also infringes on First Amendment rights to share and access online speech, he said.

"We're disappointed to see Gov. DeSantis sign onto this route," Szabo said in the statement. "There are better ways to keep Floridians, their families, and their data safe and secure online without violating their freedoms."

Another attempt at regulating social media

DeSantis voted against a more restrictive version of the bill that proposed banning social media for children under 16 and required proof of ID to join social media.

The governor said in a post on X, formerly Twitter, that he "vetoed HB 1 because the Legislature is about to produce a different, superior bill."

It's not the first time the Florida governor has focused his legislation on protecting children.

DeSantis passed a bill last year that restricted children's use of cellphones in the classroom.

"Being buried in those devices all day is not the best way to grow up," DeSantis said at the signing ceremony. "It's not the best way to get a good education."

The latest bill follows a series of legislative attempts from the government to place restrictions on social media.

An attempt to ban or force a sale of TikTok recently passed the House on March 13 with 352 votes in favor of the bill. It will next be voted on by the Senate, at which point, if it passes, it will end up on the desk of President Joe Biden — who has said he'd sign it.

Shaggy and Fred's moments in Scooby Doo the mystery begins (fraggy)

Fred seems upset that shaggy is getting tripped on the bus but he doesn't really do anything other than get kind of uncomfortable knowing that it's happening.

In the library I noticed most of the scene when it shows the characters, Fred is looking in Shaggy's Direction it's just like kind of um idk gay. And it's like every time it comes to show a Fred reaction half of those reaction scenes he's looking at Shaggy.

K so they get to the cemetery and Shaggy wants to back out but Fred and Velma link arms with him and force him to go into the cemetery. We cut to them getting to the graves and Shaggy pulls his arm away from Fred's grip, which meant Fred was walking and scooping Shaggy's arm the whole way there. So gay.

There's the scene in the graveyard and Velma is talking and Shaggy's on the total opposite side of her and so he's looking near her direction to listen to what she's saying. And he's looking that way and he standing right next to Fred so he's looking in his Direction. And the whole time for the total of almost 9 seconds, it looks like Shaggy is just staring at Fred and Fred is looking directly at the gravestone. And so he looks over at Shaggy because he feels his eyes on him and it's just very gay. It's a gay scene what else am I supposed to say?.

Everyone in this group has a crush on Fred. I feel like compared to curse of the Lake Monster, Velma starts to realize she's a lesbian in THAT movie.

Its only when Fred looks at him that he finally comes clean. Close proximity Fred Jones. Hes so touchy. Also when he comes up to Shaggy he like, runs his hand down Shaggy back. K but the deleted scene (comes from the OG script) of Fred saying "I will Never understand girls".

I mean it is true. Of course Shaggy aint her type. He's not a girl. I love that he can't understand Scooby. Its so goofy and cute.

He reaches out to touch shaggy when he asks whats wrong. Shaggy pushing Daphne out of the way so HE can hide behind Fred.

Its too funny. Fred once again protects both Shaggy and Daphne and im just like-

"Shaggy, you're okay" *Freds hand lingers* awwww and then when Shaggy starts ranting again Fred grabs his arm and reassures him that Velma is okay. And then he touches his arm and leads him. Too cute im telling y'all.

Daphne and Shaggy curling up into Fred's chest. Not only THAT but Shaggy bends down into his chest. Like sir you are 6'2. Bisexuals. All 3. Daphne and Velma walk away with their arms comforting each other. And Fred puts his hand on Shaggys back.

Fred asked Shaggy how his date went and he rested his hand on his shoulder then he let it slide down to Shaggys back and let it sit there until Daphne began reading the list of names.

Fred once again reassures shaggy that the problem is something else. I mean look, he could be a jerk and just roll his eyes at Shaggy but no. He takes time to explain and communicate.

Awww k so the group hug at the end when Shaggy ruffles Fred's hair. And he goes "Not the hair, man. Not the hair".

You understand what you're doing and what you're giving up? GOOOOOO.

You'd also better understand what your marathon pace is and what your sprint pace is and what that takes out of you before you can go back to marathon pace. Even now, if you need me to pull an all-nighter, I'm good until 3PM the next day, but that night I'm probably going to bed around 5PM and sleeping "until I'm no longer tired" which sometimes means noon.

Specifically, my marathon pace (defined as >= "I have to do laundry and my fridge is empty") is:

8 hours of sleep

A shower

1 cooked meal a day with some protein in

A walk around the block

Clean clothing

4 doctor's appointments a year by default because I need contacts, dental, and a physical.

I have a couple of prescriptions. I need to make it to CVS before they close or I stop breathing.

SOME ability to take deliveries and stuff. Or at least get to Fedex during the hours of Fedex to grab things they're holding for me.

I see the sun at least once a week after the first month

All the things that are needed to make that happen.

My sprint mode is sacrificing some or all of that, but also notice I said sprint. Usain Bolt is very very fast for 9.58 seconds. And then you pay for that.

(Is this prison? Well, I mean, you can't leave prison. And prison doesn't pay $200K/year, albeit a $200K/year where $90K is taxes and $60K is rent and the remaining $50K is going into a Cost of Living where rent is $60K or rent-controlled. But I mean yes, most of you would take that deal on the money side)

Is Twitter a good bag by the standards of tech or San Francisco?

No.

You can absolutely slide up or down the payscale vs. WLB vs. 'Having to live in the Bay Area and pay Bay Area rents" sliders, but right now, Twitter is sort of pants on all of the above and also pants on the career growth, vision, and ability to drive great products people ask of you at more senior levels. Some really good experience that I use later in my career is desperate pivoting, but you can't get a job off of that; The result is extremely awkward interviews.

And what's the upside? There's no check, there's no growth, there's no equity...

Even at a startup, there's a shot at a $10 Million check and just brilliant career growth because you get to build everything. Or if you're done taking risks, you can move to Ohio and make 80-90% of your salary in OHIO from a whole entire house. Or you can move jobs and not work 105 hours/week.

Some really good experience that I use later in my career is desperate pivoting, but you can't get a job off of that; The result is extremely awkward interviews.

Also, I'm pretty sure working at Twitter on those salaries would kill you. We'll get to this.

If you're in an office, you can't be parallel processing

Laundry is simultaneously 3 hours and 25 minutes. Because it's 5 minutes every 45 minutes for 3 hours. If I'm HOME, I can do laundry. If I'm in an office, the laundry machine isn't running.

You will turn money into time

In NYC, there is a helicopter service from Hudson Yards to the airport. This is totally worth it to the sort of person who works in Midtown. Because you turn $200 into an hour.

This is your mindset now.

Amazon is awesome because it means you don't have to travel to a whole entire store. Stuff just shows up and you spend 2 minutes running upstairs to get packages off the front porch.

BUT this means you'd better make enough money that you can convert large fractions of the median American income into time.

Or on the corporate level, the point of the corporate cafe is that you don't HAVE TO go the grocery store because there's a bacon tray full of bacon and now you don't have to buy and cook bacon. Which is why I think getting rid of the corporate cafes is dumb.

Don't move to SFBA for $250K, it's unironically not enough money, but also you really cannot do this specific thing

Maybe if you're 20 and have no life or kids and can do the roommate thing.

12 hours a day isn't 12 hours

Specifically, I hated the San Francisco Bay Area because I had a 90-minute one-way commute. 12 hours is FIFTEEN hours and if you need 8 hours of sleep....

Normally, you wouldn't need that sort of commute.... except it's SFBA. Twitter doesn't pay enough to NOT have that sort of commute. See above about Money into Time and understand that Twitter doesn't pay you enough to turn Money into enough Time. Because San Francisco is so wildly expensive.

2. SF doesn't support the 24-hour lifestyle like NYC does

15 hours is a lot, but also it's 15 specific hours. And there's a decent chance your nearby CVS isn't open when you're home. Or Safeway.

But in NYC, everything is open 24 hours; It's so so ridiculously awesome. You'll feel the pricing more than you'll feel it in SF in many cases, but allergy meds that keep me alive are priceless. And for the specific laundry case, there's a drop-off/pick-up service. So you can absolutely be in the office with a laundry machine running.

As a bonus, there's lovely relatively safe gentrifying neighborhoods within a 45 minute commute of Midtown and Downtown where you make a million bucks a year in finance and can really get serious about this Money -> Time thing.

The right way of doing 12 hour days is actually really awesome

So the way I usually do this is called "Core Hours".

And what this means is that I, a bit of a night owl, work for a PST-based startup from EST and every meeting I have is between noon and 5 EST. Or sometimes, I share a team with Europe and all my meetings are before noon, that's also an option.

So if I have to run errands, I run errands. Or if I was up until 4AM, I sleep until noon (And if we're doing the Europe thing, I don't work until 4AM).

And I'll give you 12 hours, but I, within a certain pretty broad degree of reason, get to pick which hours they are.

In Summary: Twitter will literally fucking kill you. For zero upside.

So right now, Elon has effectively created a world where:

You work 15 hour days

Firefighting

Which are 15 hard-coded specific hours. And they're not even off hours, the nice part about starting a 12-hour day at 4AM is that every store in the world is open at 4PM.

With effectively no PTO ever, even at holidays because that's not "hardcore"

From an office in the most expensive city in the world with some of the longest commutes in the world.

Which is also a city (or at least metro) without much in the way of 24-hour pharmacies or grocery stores

With a terrible package theft problem so you can't even do delivery. to try to deal with those problems.

Do you begin to understand my problems here? Do you understand why when I tried to do this, I went into full-on ICU psychosis after a couple of years?

You're skipping sleep, food, water, mental health...

And not even for a good bag! For a bunch of reasons, I don't want a union, but this is why people make unions people!

Today's Challenge: Cliff Diving + Hot Tub Building

Teams Pit Against Each Other: Team Eastern vs. Team Central Team Western vs. Team Midwest

Cliff Diving Winners: After a lot of deliberate planning of who would go off first to last, Team Eastern wins the challenge. Everyone from Team Midwest dove, so they all immediately won. Team Eastern and Team Midwest receive jacks to pull their crates back to camp. Team Western and Team Central must pull their own crates back to camp. Hot Tub Building Winners: Team Eastern and Team Central. New York and Mass finally stopped fighting for a few moments and worked well enough together to build a hot tub that was plenty efficient, and the others went along with their plans//schematics.

Team Central basically copied everything from Team Eastern and built it somewhat faster. With that mind... From Team Western, Washington and Alaska had troubles completing either challenge. From Team Midwestern, Ohio and Michigan kept fighting a large chunk of the time, to the point where it distracted them from completing the latter half of the challenge.

Hey everyone! My name is Rosalind but I also go by Ross or Ros. OR you could call me by my internet names Blue or Bluemoon if you’d like! (It’s a lot of names I know lol sorry. Just pick whatever).

I’m a 20yo artist, writer, and editor who will be mostly focusing on fanart, self ship, furry content, and maybe some cosplay on this blog. I do have a business focused on my published books, OCs, and editing services which you can find here if you’re interested. I’m more active over on those accounts since I work on that stuff almost full time now but I try and post fan/personal content when I can. Skip ahead to read more about me, my, interests, and who I ship with, etc. But in the meantime, I need to get this out of the way and say that I really wanna make new friends here but I’m also hesitant to rejoin any sort of self ship and/or fan communities because of how many horrible experiences I’ve had with them before. Perhaps Tumblr is different but I wanted to put this out here for my own peace of mind lol. So please be patient with me. I grew up in fandom and self ship spaces that had constant arguments about literally everything. Trigger warnings, whatever vivziepop drama was circulating that day, pro vs anti ship, some debacle with an animation studio—you name it, people were screaming about it and they’d get mad at everyone for so much as breathing round them wrong. I didn’t even know what half of this discourse was even about and everything I’ve learned has been against my will. So no, this is not me “taking a side”, I just don’t want to be apart of discourse anymore. My morals are this: live and let live unless you’re supporting/romanticizing anything immoral. If you have genuine critiques about how I portray certain things then definitely let me know since I’m always concerned about how I represent stuff, but aside from that, this is just a blog to talk about stuff I like so let’s keep it chill please. 🧍‍♂️

Yes! I’m fine having doubles. I used to hate it a few years back but now that my mental health is a little more in check and I don’t have to rely on self shipping for major comfort like I used to, I no longer feel bothered by that. It was unhealthy anyway. Not to judge anyone who hates having doubles. I understand folks have pretty valid reasons for it. I just realized the attachment I had to these characters was turning into an unhealthy kind of obsession and was hurting me more than helping. I’m out of that place now luckily. I still self ship for comfort reasons but it’s not as in ease as it was before and mostly just for funsies now. Ketterville Canon vs Sprawl City Canon

Both stories hold the structure of Wild Grinders together, and yet, have a lot of disagreements. In short Ketterville was the ORIGINAL blueprint for Wild Grinders, but as time went on, it became retconned when airing as the Nickeloden TV series. Anyways, let's just get into it because introductions will never be my thing.

Ketterville Canon (Toys and Movie Canon)

If you didn't already know, Wild Grinders began as a toyline and not an animated series. Mattel contacted Rob Dyrdek to create a skate crew as toys. When the toys were being designed, Dyrdek had a specific vision for the characters and the story behind the toys. Essentially, he chose to create a vague memory of his childhood skate crew in Ohio. He never specified any of the real-life members, however. But he did pull some inspiration from the skate culture in California, that influenced more diversity among the skate crew.

But he still settled for his hometown in Ohio to be the setting anyways. (Why we will call it the Ketterville Canon).

A lot of the toys often included blurbs of what the characters were like at this time. And this would be the best way (as we can) to put it all chronologically.

Jay Jay and Emo Crys where Lil' Rob's two closest friends. Lil' Rob and Jay Jay met by playing basketball and just hanging out. In a Berrics interview, Dyrdek mostly described Jay Jay as a germaphobe who's going to be a doctor one day. Meanwhile, Lil' Rob met Emo Crys during a skate competition where they got off on the wrong foot and basically tried to whack at each other. They became friends by the end of it though.

Emo Crys was never a shy and cute person. He was reserved, moody as hell, artistic, deadpan dry, and 'cries over everything'. But it was most likely due to him being born in China and having felt isolated in such a small town in America. No one understood him and he took his words into art (or actions from the way he was ready to fite Lil' Rob). After becoming friends, he did mellow out a bit.

Jack Knife was never a full-on southern accent American. Rob Dyrdek based him loosely on the idea of it, but Jack Knife was far from the "American Dream" kid. His family was homeless, described as 'nomads' (this is the more appropriate version of the original word) and they were all dumb as hell. However, they were NEVER written having patriarchy attitudes. Jack Knife's dad didn't own a car and used a shopping cart instead, while his mother was into spirituality and always welcomed the Wild Grinders. Jack Knife's sister was never added in his lore. Anyways, the Grinders found him at the local skate park because he was described as a legend (for pulling risky and dumb stunts).

Spitball did not speak english at all. He's always spoken in spanish, but he's very aware of what everyone is saying english. His character stays very consistent in the series as a street ninja, but his toy lore never mentions anything about dojos or master sensei. And here's a fun fact: he got his nickname because he spat on everyone because he heard there was a legend that spit can heal your scrapes and cuts. Jay Jay did not appreciate his method of first aid.

Goggles is the last member of the Wild Grinders. He only had a brief moment in the Golden Grinders movie, but didn't stand out because he was made at last minute. In a Berrics interview, Rob Dyrdek only had 5 characters ready to lauch for the toyline: Lil' Rob, Emo Crys, Jay Jay, Spitball, and Jack Knife. It wasn't until after the "Golden Grinders", where Dyrdek and Tracy began to implement Goggles into the skate crew as the camera boy. Even when "The Lost Skate Spot" came out, Goggles still had very little screentime and lines.

Not only that, but it's very difficult to say anymore about Goggles in Ketterville canon. There aren't any photos of his toy box online that gives specific lore about him other than he was the last member of the Wild Grinders.

Meaty didn't talk at all.

Shark Attack is a part of Ketterville canon, but because he has more California influences, that's where we finally get into 'Sprawl City Canon' aka when the toyline was cancelled in favour of animation.

Sprawl City Canon (TV Series Canon)

Sprawl City's the new and revamped version of Wild Grinders that's basically influenced more by California (where Rob Dyrdek lives today). It was more #relatable for the younger generation and made for more flexibility of the story to be fun as a TV series. But things got retconned or added because it needed to be a wacky, fun, awesome series for 8-year-olds to easily watch.

At the beginning of the series, there was an attempt to keep the characters true to their lore seen in 'Biggest Sellout' and 'Going Hollyweird' where they stuck to the characters' original voices and even the personalities.... Until they lost it later in the season.

And here's the retcon and unnecessary additions that make what the Sprawl City Canon is today:

This one really isn't that bad, but the series made Lil' Rob and Goggles the friendship duo. Honestly cute, but it does retcon Lil' Rob's friendship @ Jay Jay and Emo Crys

Stubford. And they added his father, Hucksterball. Just the episodic villains that honestly insert themselves in the story. They were never in the short movies and that's all you need to know.

Jay Jay being more of the mature nanny rather than an 'older brother' personality that the toy lore intended. (Listen, 'Lil' Rob Riding Hood' was an episode that made my brain scream about it).

Jack Knife's soft voice being turned into loud, 'southern accent Texan American' for the purpose of it being more funny

The Knife family is a bit more financially stable and can afford housing and they continue to travel as a circus (Butter Knife confirmed to be Jack's little sister), but man. There's something about their personalities (from toy lore) that seemed more fun and feels more genuine.

Emo Crys. He's a lot more of an modern, sanitised, gentrified, hot topic theatre kid. He's not as dark and moody, but more awkward introvert than a full-on 2008 scene kid. And they made him like unicorns and ponies. Not to like hate on that, but they did this exact same thing to Raven in TTGo and something just feels unsettling about this new trend.

Spitball does talk in english, mostly for the purpose of verbal accessibility to kids, but that's not all. He's given more Asian-Hispanic influences in the TV series because he's a ninja. Kinda neat, but his Mexican and punk influences are put aside.

Meaty does talk

This is literally the only canon we can get for Goggles. We learn more about him here. The fact that he's allergic to birthday cake all the way to his eye color being dk blue. We get to see his family and he has more story here and everyone lacks development.

Smoke break (session 3)

Currently, I’m in my bathroom. I just finished smoking, so yea I like to hotbox my bathroom. I don’t have anything in particular to talk about it just felt the need to say, anything.

For some reason I really think I need to do shrooms. I’ve been told it’s enlightening. They show you what is true and what’s real in this world. The way I think and how much I think, it’s obviously something I care about and had a huge. Effect in my life. Just knowing how people think as well as why they think that way. Like, what leads a person to think to do something negative.

(Random subject change) I met this girl at the smoke shop I work at and she seems like she wants to be a better person, but she’s being held back by so much. Recently she had to move to Ohio not too long after meeting her. When she moved to Ohio I hear and listen to the say her mother talks and everyone around her and it seems like there almost anchoring her down, along with property and just the society in general. I hear all of this and I’m starting to think she’s just here to try to get some money some kind of way even if it’s having a baby by me just to take care of her and hers because she she’s I have something going for myself. I think she thinks my rolling paper business is goin to be big and she thinks it would be nice to get a piece of it. I only say all of this because I can tell she holding back. It also seems like her mom is one of those “stuck in her ways” adults as well as “it’s my way or no way” kind of person.

For some reason I just haven’t been as motivated lately, so today is a whole different day/week.

I’m outside thinking it’s ok to care less, but don’t be careless. With everything I know now I’m just trying to figure out the best way to climb.

So, basically I’ve found out two major situations that are goin to take place in the near future. 1.) we’re about to lose currency. No more cash. So I’m going to assume no more atms. I’ve never believe in conspiracy theories that much until now. The creator of cashapp died not long after they made the announcement that fed now was taking its place. Fed now will be what cashapp and Venmo and all of those apps are right now. To sum it all up in my own words and thoughts, I’m assuming the government wants to keep track of all of our money. With the US being in, I think some odd number of trillion of dollars, I get it. BUT, at the same time, do you really expect people to not have untraceable money when everything just seems off balance. By that I mean, what we’re being paid and how much essential items are, don’t exactly add up. The cost of living vs the minimum wage amount. The minimum wage amount vs organic food. Speaking of organic food, that leads me to my next major situation I came across.

Food. Apparently I read that our food is about to start being injected with the Covid vaccine, im assuming for the ones who didn’t take it. BUT, why is it so important that the vaccine is consumed. The only thing I can think of is there’s something in it that’ll control us in a certain type of way. It’s all about control. From financially when I was talkin about it earlier to now with the food and our health. Why do they want to control the population, or is it the Popo that ensures poverty. I was gonna say the black population, but it’s obvious, there are more of us living in poverty vs anyone else, but there are other people going through the same thing we are. BUT to contradict that, we’re still the masses of people in poverty. Maybe we really do have something they want, or need. Maybe the movie “get out” was ahead of its time.

I’m not sure why or what’s going on but, right now I’m hungry and debating whether or not I’m going to order doordash or just make chicken sandwiches and fries. I’m feeling like I deserve to treat myself so doordash it is.

Just finished the new paper girls TV adaptation + a reread of the comic (to refresh my memory) and I mostly liked it but I didn't like how the show added/fleshed out multiple male characters while deleting several female characters and their parts of the story. It felt weird :/ also they whitewashed Grand Father? If they include wari's plot in a future season I wonder if they'll reconcile that. (In the comic grand father is wari's son and wari is a prehistoric woman who, based on the megafauna encountered/the fact that despite the time travel they never really leave their section of Ohio, is indigenous to north America) (the actor playing grand father is Greek)

I'm not really sure what the purpose was behind the new character Larry? He serves the same plot function that the cartoonist woman does but in a less cool way imo. He had a lot of screen time that felt unnecessary. I think a TV audience would have been able to follow the more random time traveling the comic uses, but I understand that having three time periods that share sets is easier on filming.

Small changes like making Erin have a more complicated home life also felt like it was just sort of there, it didn't add a whole lot to the story (also weird to give adult Erin the plot adult tiff has vis-a-vis blowing up to save everyone?) I'm pretty sure they just wanted to give ali wong a bigger role (I think a lot of the shows changes were so adult actors would have bigger roles tbh, which is funny since the comic's time travel factions are an exaggerated generational divide of old-timers vs teenagers)

They also made Mac less homophobic which is just a funny choice all around to me since her introduction is calling a bully the f slur. It's part of her character growth it's fine! (She just says gaywad in the show which feels weak as hell compared to everything else she says, like she couldn't at least have gone with cocksucker or something?) Also making her brother more fleshed out + have a better life bc she dies young was a weird choice. I didn't think fridging was possible for a living character but I guess time travel made it possible?

This is making it seem like I didn't like the show but I did it was good! The main 4 girls are amazing and spot on casting, they carried the show. The overall vibe of the comic is still there and it's pretty cool how much managed to translate from panel to screen. I think bkv nand cliff chiang being executive producers problem helped there, although I wish Matt Wilson got some credit bc his color work in paper girls is integral to the comic and is just absolutely stunning stuff. His colors are probably one of the only aesthetic elements the show failed to fully capture (only the hot pink clouds were anywhere close)
