What the hell is this 4? 2 oils at once?
What the hell is this 4? 2 oils at once?
I’m having a hard time trying to figure out this odd ball oil burner design.. with the two balls on one stem? Weird isn’t it.. you’d need to use both hands with 2 lighters to use both of the bubbles at one time. The girl at the vape store gave me a deal on the big bigger biggest piper that I’d had gotten on one of my last trips. To the dub maybe 2 weeks ago when I dropped my glass while sitting…

toxic baby daddy!ghost x reader
part 7/8
Tumblr media
synopsis: two weeks into your uneasy truce, simon gets introspective.
wc: 811
cw: afab!reader, angst, banter that becomes arguing, hurt and the tiniest bit of comfort, language, trust issues, simon's pov, no gendered language. no use of y/n ever.
author’s note: well, we back at it, the second last installment of this verse. i'll still take requests/thots for it of course, but soon we'll get closure for these two. for now, simon's thoughts on their situation.
new to baby blue? start here.
Tumblr media
It’s disarming.
And Simon Riley doesn’t like being disarmed. He doesn’t like being caught off guard, off kilter, unstable.
It’s been happening more and more often though.
When you and Tommy look at him in perfect unison, he is struck stupid by your eyes, like you copy and pasted them onto your son. His son. His kid. His perfect, funny kid. Unmuddied by everything bad in the world. His life is pancakes and dinosaurs and that horrible fucking tv show that he’s sure rots his little mind. His life is you. Your smiles, your laugh, your cooking, your hugs. Things Simon cheated himself of when he walked out on you, choked with fear and bleeding misery.
Simon is disarmed, totally fucking helpless, a veritable babe in the woods when you let him hold you. When for the first time, in a long ass time, he gets to watch your lids flutter closed and slip into unconsciousness, in that quick, carefree way he’s always envied.
He barely sleeps, even less so lately.
After all, no sleeping meant no nightmares. No cloying, choking smoke-like fears reaching for the frayed edges of his subconscious. No sleeping meant he couldn’t play on your kindness, your goodness, and guilt you into holding him back when he woke up screaming, sweating, no matter how bad he wanted it.
It’s two weeks later. Two weeks after sleeping together but not sleeping together. After breakfast and an uneasy truce. Two weeks after kissing you and touching you and holding you like you both had all the time in the world.
You’re not in a good mood. And he knows that. But he pushes you anyway, pokes and prods you even as you slam through your kitchen, noisily pulling out a pot and a huge bag of pasta shells.
“Let’s talk.” He approaches, arms crossed, full kit traded in for a skull emblazoned cloth mask, jeans and a threadbare black t-shirt, one he’d found in your bedroom days ago, stashed in the back your drawer, crumpled in a wrinkled ball, like you didn’t want to see it, but you didn’t want to trash it either. He’s been doing that lately, staying over for days and rifling through your shit, finding old relics and artifacts from a time neither of you can let go of. An old mask, a hat, t-shirts.
So many goddamn t-shirts.
“Talk?” you snort derisively, filling the pot with water. He watches you test the water with your fingertips and curse under your breath, mumbling something about shit pipes. When the pot is full, you turn to face him, lips curled, sneering. “I wasn’t aware you were capable of that. Thought you just communicated in grunts.”
“You’re funny. That's new.” He jabs, advancing in the conversation much faster than he should have, comforted in familiar territory, finding solace in what used to be commonplace for you, banter, barbs, teasing. The tense set of your shoulders should’ve warned him off it, should’ve told him you’d take it as well as a bullet in the back. But God help him, he’ll take whatever you give.
“Mm.” Your tone is casual but your answering nod is jerky, too fast, “Yeah, I developed a sense of humour when I realized our relationship had been a joke.” You slam the pot onto a burner, giving him your back.
The air is suddenly devoid of mirth, utterly obliterated where it had been floating between you before. Now the living room and kitchen are a smoking crater, an oil rig on fire, a disaster site.
He’s never been more grateful for his son’s propensity to nap like he’s dead.
Neither of you say anything. Simon is waiting for you to say something, to dress him down, but when you lower your head and sigh, heavy and deep with pain and exhaustion he planted within you, Simon withers. He slinks back to the living room and drops himself onto your couch.
You wait, he’s not sure what for. He used to be so good at preempting your actions, your thoughts, your words, now he handles you like you’re a venomous reptile, looking for exposed, vulnerable flesh to strike, to bite.
You set down the glass you’d been drinking from hard. And he’s surprised you didn’t crack it.
“What do you want, Simon?” Question of the goddamn century, it is. And you’ve asked it of him plenty of times. But he never has an answer, can never really deduce just what the fuck he’s doing here, with you. With Tommy. Playing a game? Playing a role? Punishing you? Himself? All of it could be true, but none of it seems right.
“I want to try.”
All he knows is that before this, four years seemed like a short time, nothing really. But now?
It’s an eternity. Reflected back to him in broken glass, in half full drawers, in his son’s eyes.
In yours.

On December 1st 1787, the first modern lighthouse in Scotland was lit at Fraserburgh.
Made by Thomas Smith and Robert Stevenson at Kinnaird Head, the lighthouse was built on top of a 16th-century castle, and is now Scotland’s Lighthouse Museum.Kinnaird Head near Fraserburgh, built on an 16th Century castle, was the first lighthouse to be put into operation by the Commissioners of Northern Lights, and sustained the most powerful lamps of their time.
The lamps were 17 whale oil filled burners and were said to be visible from 14 miles away. The lighthouse was constructed by Thomas Smith and his son in law Robert Stevenson, grandfather of author Robert Louis Stevenson, with a lantern set at a 120 feet above the sea on a corner of Kinnaird Head Castle. Each oil-burning lamp was backed by a parabolic reflector and arranged in three horizontal lines to produce a powerful beam for seamen working some of the toughest waters in Europe.
Previously, coal fires had generally been used to guide sailors to safety. Mr James Park, a ship’s master, was appointed “Keeper of the light” at 1/- per night, The appointment was made on condition he had another person with him at the lighthouse every night, who he was to instruct in cleaning the lanterns and lighting the lamps. Whale oil was brought to Kinnaird Head by Smith, a tin smith of Broughty Ferry, which was a major whaling port of the day.
In 1824, a new lighthouse tower was built within the original castle tower with Robert Stevenson building a new lantern and reflector array.
In 1929, another first was recorded for Kinnaird Head when it took possession of a radio beacon. During WWI, enemy bombers struck the lighthouse only once despite repeated, heavy bombardments on the surrounding area due to Fraserburgh’s ammunition works. Records show that on 19 February 1941, two bombs from an aircraft exploded 50 yards from the Lighthouse Buildings. Damage included 41 panes of broken glass.
The Wine Tower at the lighthouse is the only surviving remnant of the old castle, and in fact is the oldest building in all Fraserburgh. Legend tells us that Isobel the daughter of Alexander Fraser, 8th laird of Philorth had fallen in love with a servant piper, and that the laird was not happy about this. So to separate the two the laird had the piper tied-up in the cave under the Wine Tower known as Selches Hole (Seals Hole). The laird then locked-up his daughter in the uppermost floor of the tower and retired to Kinnaird Castle.
Unfortunately for the servant there was an abnormally high tide due to a storm, and the poor man drowned. When Isobel the laird’s daughter was informed of her lover’s fate, she was distraught and committed suicide by jumping from the top of the tower onto the rocks below. The rock that she fell on is still painted red to this day. It is said that Isobel is seen prior to bad weather, and when the weather is bad it is said that you can hear the skirl of the pipes being played by the ghost of the piper for his lost love

Checking Etsy for oil burners because sometimes there are handblown ones on there that are really high quality, it's honestly the best place to find them ime. I happened upon a listing for crack pipes instead though and was looking at the reviews

The Swamp Wytch’s Altar
Hey Y’all!
It seems money just flies out of my pockets recently, as I am adopting a new kitten today and yesterday splurged on this new desk. Its actually not new… its an antique I found at goodwill. Getting it was a struggle to say the least, but I am happy to have replaced my old particle board desk I was using to house my altar.
Tumblr media
Here she is in all her glory! The white pain and sunflowers and forget-me-nots are added by a previous owner, but I actually like them, for now at least.
Tumblr media
Here you can see the gorgeous claw feet. So witchy and so beautiful the amount of work and character in this desk is astounding! This is what sold me on it.
Tumblr media
On this top shelf I have a few oddities. From left to right I have a box filled with various herbs, my Angel de la Guarda candle, an antique wooden box that I use to hold the oils and perfumes I make, my Ritual Pipe, a Gator Paw Wand for cursing and directing power, a statue of La Caridad del Cobre, my Gator Head, an incense burner and my altar candle.
Tumblr media
The single exterior drawer holds a lot of my practical tools like bags, my maraca, empty bottles, a mirror, and some more herbs. Nothing too extraordinary in here.
Tumblr media
Then if you turn the key (yes, the lock ACTUALLY works!) you will find my working space and a few more shelves and drawers where I am keeping some more tools like my Rue Water and my Ritual Knife.
Tumblr media
Here is a view of those cabinets and drawers on the inside. I am in love!
Tumblr media
In the back you can see my old altar, and my cat Lizzie lounging on the new one.
If you made it this far and have any questions about anything just let me know!!
Peace Out Swamp Hags 🐊 ✌🏼

Federal authorities have stepped back from a proposal to address high levels of air pollution from the oil fields of West Texas and New Mexico.
Last summer, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency announced it was considering designating the Permian Basin — the nation’s top-producing oil patch and one of the largest single sources of carbon emissions on Earth — in violation of ozone standards, which would have required substantial reforms in local oil and gas operations.
But the proposal was moved to a back burner in the agency’s annual agenda issued last week, reclassified from “active” to “pending,” a move first reported by Bloomberg News.
In a statement, the EPA said it had moved the item in order “to focus on non-discretionary actions.”
It marks a win for the oil sector, which pushed hard against the EPA proposal, saying it would decrease production and cost jobs.
“While it is encouraging news that the Biden Administration has backed down on this disastrous plan, Texas remains ready to fight any job-killing attacks on our critical oil and gas industry,” Texas Gov. Greg Abbott said in a statement following the EPA move.
Permian ozone standards are the latest setback for the Biden administration’s ambitious climate agenda. Despite promising steep, rapid cuts in carbon emissions, President Joe Biden has overseen a buildout of oil and gas export capacity, a surge in U.S. shale production and increased drilling on federal lands.
While the administration has proposed much-needed regulations, major concessions to the fossil fuel sector “contradict their commitment to stave off climate change,” said Robin Schneider, director of the Texas Campaign for the Environment.
Ozone, also known as smog, forms in the atmosphere when hydrocarbon gases mix with vehicle engine emissions under sunlight. It usually accumulates in big cities with crowded highways. In recent years, ozone levels have risen in the mostly rural Permian Basin.
Exposure to elevated ozone levels is the most dangerous for sensitive groups including older people, children and people who work outdoors. Ozone aggravates lung diseases such as asthma and emphysema.
Hydrocarbon emissions, including from oil and gas wells, are one part of the ozone equation. The other part, nitrogen oxides, or NOx, come primarily from diesel engine exhaust.
NOx are the limiting factor in Permian ozone levels, said Gunnar Schade, an associate professor of atmospheric sciences at Texas A&M University, because they remain relatively scarce, produced mostly from the fleets of trucks and compressor engines used in hydraulic fracturing.
“Most of the NOx in the air come from the industry at this point, and they have been increasing. The satellite data shows a clear trend,” Schade said.
The EPA’s most recent assessment, in 2017, found the region was within acceptable ozone limits. But a lot has changed since then: Daily Permian oil and gas production has nearly tripled, and more activity means more emissions.
[...]
“We are very disappointed,” said Kayley Shoup, 30, a Carlsbad resident and member of the local organization Citizens Caring for the Future. “Clearly our air quality is already exceeding Clean Air Act standards. The data is there; we should be a nonattainment zone.”
If the Permian Basin were designated as such, state regulators in Texas and New Mexico would be required to produce plans for ozone reduction.
When EPA floated that idea last year, the Texas Oil and Gas Association called it an “attempt to undermine domestic production” that would kill jobs and threaten American security.
[...]
Air quality violations are frequent, and authorities virtually never take action, Wilson said. Enforcement of federal pollution standards falls to state regulators — the TCEQ for emissions from tanks and the Texas Railroad Commission for emissions from wells and pipelines.
“There’s absolutely no enforcement that I’ve seen,” said Sarah Stogner, an oil and gas attorney in the Permian Basin town of Monahans. “There’s absolutely no one willing to do anything about it.”

29: Fuse
Maggie was trained in steam. Good, old-fashioned steam. Pistons and pipes and huge burners producing large amounts of smoke. A. main boiler that you protected since it it went you were done.
She'd worked on steam cannons so large that they could demolish a wall in a single short. She'd repaired steam needle guns that fired so fast that the main problem was getting ammunition into them, not keeping the mechanism working.
These are things you oil, things you tighten, things you can listen to and figure out why they're not working. Steam speaks a language as it flows through pipes, and with experience you can interpret what it's saying and fix anything that comes along.
Unfortunately, one of the issues with working for the Tech-Lords was that every now and then one of them would get an idea to do something different. As a mechanic, you were just expected to ride along and work the same maintenance wonders you always did, even if you had no idea what the theory the thing was working under was.
Lord Fossmorton-Bullwinter had called this new stuff "Electricity", and he'd picked it up on a recent trip to London. It was supposed to be the newest thing. Smaller, quieter, and more powerful than steam could ever be.
Maggie's main problem was that it didn't make any noise. When it was working all you heard was the creaking of the juggernaut as it took each step, and a huge number of crackling noises as it discharged a weapon.
The smell, rather than being that rich mix of wet metal and burned coal dust was more of an acrid odor that made your breath catch in your throat. There were still some gears and levers, but the motors they were attached to were nothing like the pistons she was used to.
The manual she'd been given to work on this thing was essentially a dupli-stat of his Lordship's notes from the London trip. Lots of equations in bad handwriting and small things written in the margins that were either functional diagrams or the words "jolly good" unintelligibly written.
These were, of course, the normal problems one gets used to when working for people whose sanity lasted about as long as the bottle of brandy at a high-class party.
The problem she had right at this moment was that Lord Foss-Bull had decided to take his new toy on a raid to test it, and just as they'd seen the two Truculent-class land spiders coming their way, everything had stopped moving.
The speaking tube whistled. Maggie pulled the whistle out of the tube and her Lord's voice, made no less nasally by a trip through a long metal pipe.
"I say, Mags, could you please check the fuse cabinet. I think we've blown something and could use a bit of power about now, aye? That's a good lass." he said, apparently unperturbed by his approaching and self-inflicted death.
"Aye, M'lord. I'll lock it down." Maggie responded, more out of habit than confidence in her ability repair anything.
The cabinet labeled "Fuses" was fairly apparent, so she opened it to find several rows of large...she assumed...fuses. They each had a handle to grab them by, and were held in place with springs. Each handle had a different color on it, apparently related to its capacity.
"Okay, great. They're like valves for electricity. Easy enough." she said, beginning to inspect them.
One of them was quite clearly hot, and the body and handle of it had been scorched with heat. Pulling an oily rag out of her pocket, she grabbed the handle and pulled, being rather surprised when it popped right out.
She checked the color code. Red. She looked to the spares cabinet for a red fuse. Green. Blue. Yellow. Orange. Black. No red fuses.
She heard a loud noise and the juggernaut shook. She was running out of time. None of the other fuses would fit in the open slot, so she looked at them careful to see how they were made. She'd just have to improvise.
Removing the bare piece of metal from the burned fuse, she shoved in a wrench from her tool belt. It fit...well enough. She then returned to the fusebox and tried to jam it into place. Unfortunately the wrench made it slightly too large. Fortunately she still had her hammer, and with a bit of percussive maintenance was able to get it into place and hit the reset button.
The juggernaut surged to life and began to move again. She looked inside at her improvised fuse and saw that her wrench was beginning to glow slightly. Shame. She like that wrench.
Pulling the whistle from the speaking tube she blew into it.
"Smashing job, Mags! We'll have these steam-powered buggers scrapped in no time!" came his Lordship's voice from the other end.
"That's great, sir, but you may want to hurry it a bit. I'm not sure how long that repair will keep." Maggie said quickly, knowing it was probably pointless.
"We'll just the jolly big guns then! Hold on, lads!" came the distracted response from the other end.
Maggie rolled her eyes, but as she knew her employer, also held on.
