While people in the castle call Callum “High Mage” and “Prince” pretty interchangeably, there’s one moment where I think it mattered.
When Callum confronts Opeli, she initially calls him “High Mage,” as though to suggest they are co-equals in the castle. She can push back and not release Rayla because she can just debate him as though he’s just a fellow advisor to the King.
But when Callum refuses to back down, she switches to calling him “Prince,” as though ceding to his authority in this situation and letting him take control of the situation.
Which is a pretty subtle and powerful moment, because it shows that Callum is both. He’s the mage advisor to King Ezran, and he’s also a royal in his own right as well. After he spent most of Arc 1 thinking it had to be one or the other, he was able to become both.

Callum: Rayla and I are friends. Best friends. We love each other but we’re not destined to be together.
Opeli: Okay then here’s a list of potential suitors I think you may—
Callum: What? No I’m not marrying anyone but Rayla.

Season 5 Episode 1 of TDP in a nutshell
Opeli: Prince Callum, we caught the elf breaking into your office.
Callum: Not to worry. She has a permit.
Opeli: *takes the permit*
Opeli: This just says “Rayla can do what she wants.”

Callum: Five seconds to explain why Rayla is chained before I start zapping.
Opeli: The Elf was found in your office.
Callum: First, her name is Rayla. Get it right. Second, she's allowed in there.
Opeli: You gave her your key?
Callum: Well, no, but I have i... oh... doesn't matter.
Opeli: She also had a weapon.
Callum: So what? Heck, she has weapons everywhere. She hid a weapon under my pillow for three days! I don't know how she did that! I'm still trying to figure it out!
Opeli: Was that weapon the one that killed King Harrow?
Callum: U-Um... well, n-no... I don't know how that would fit exactly... My pillow isn't that big.
Callum: You know what? Fuck it, I don't give a shit! I trust her with my life. If she hasn't told me, then I trust her enough that she will. Even if she doesn't, I don't care. I trust her. Now. Let her go.
Rayla: There is no need to use the key. I got it.
Callum: Not surprising. I'm betting she unlocked it the moment you did it.
Solider: When... how long..?
Rayla: As soon as you did it, I unlocked it... I break laws for a living. It's not the first time.
Callum: Knew it.

so I know everyone is really into the Soren and Corvus dynamic rn, which, valid; romantic or platonic, they're hilarious
but I feel like people are forgetting the gem that was the Corvus & Opeli dynamic
Ezran fucks off to the mountains for an adventure with zero prior planning. Corvus pats Opeli on the shoulder as she stares at the letter
Opeli disses the hell out of a foreign diplomat and Corvus stands there nodding along like "yeah. tell them, Opeli." (or, sometimes: standing there, brain empty, but still supporting her.)
Corvus and Opeli often share an exasperated look when the rest (especially Soren) decide to do something vaguely stupid, because unfortunately they're supposed to be the responsible ones here
and of course, they're the Ezran protection duo™.

Opeli: Who else is hiding in the laundry room trying to listen to Prince Callum and Lady Rayla’s conversation?
Ezran: Me. I'm in the laundry basket.
Assistant Crowlord: I'm in the washing machine.
Corvus: I'm in the closet.
Soren: We accept you Corvus. <3
Corvus: No, I'm literally in the closet.
Soren: Love is love. <3

If you don’t find any of them attractive personally, no worries! Go with who you think has the objectively best design, or just who you’d like to see win!
Yes, there are some lovely ladies missing from the list 😔 unfortunately, Tumblr only allows twelve options per poll, so I had to go with the characters that seem to be the most popular in the fandom.
Reblogs are appreciated!

Me (lying to myself): "Of course this isn't just a pointless Twin Peaks reference for the sake of reference, this element has to have an in-universe meaning. This part of the dream is about Viren's wildest desires for control, things Viren himself knows are delusional and foolish. The curtains and the lights are red, symbolising violence or desire. So either Viren fantasies about Opeli stroking his wood or they did have an affair and she had an abortion regardless of Viren's wishes, and he helped her in it, performing the spell himself, because this way would be painless for her and he knew it was best for everyone, but it's still a memory that stays with them both. The writers have obviously thought this through."
