Because 1) honestly she loves the man but FUCK it's so annoying. She'd take a bitey toddler patient actively throwing a tantrum over Bruce Wayne any day, I mean she understands nervous patients because the man is so damn eccentric to boot she's never sure what kind of response to prepare for,

and 2) look, dental records are so very, very specific. Like ,"legally acceptable to identify the body" kind of specific. So she ALSO would absolutely know that Bruce Wayne very much is the Batman, so it would be the same level of trolling as the Wayne kids.

MWAH okay so the thing with my ocs is they mostly live in a big extended universe called omaegorverse and its less of an original character as it is an ensemble cast of original characters i like to play with. ill put those under the cut but i have a couple who arent:

jeyne whent, lady companion to danelle lothston :) helps orchestrate the capture and execution of danelle by snitching to her family. marries her something-or-other cousin who spearheaded the operation and got the lordship. matriarch of house whent of harrenhal /|\ ^._.^ /|\ she and danelle have an inadvisable relationship w each other ^_^ her kids are born with red hair and high cheekbones and look rather like dead lady danelle.......

aelyx son of jon. failed at being a maester fired as the town crier now spends his days drinking at the IATC ranting about how the targaryens are sexually deviant lizard people and the maesters are lying to us. keeps getting arrested but his dad pays them off with his dentistry apothecary money. his sworn sword is outlaw knight ser rogar stone. has a bulletin on the local notice board called wisdomwars. maesters are rats to him and he only listens to local crackpot eddard grouper-tongue. other associates include robb of dewton, lyanne of dewton, teddard son of anders, daven knight (who isnt a knight) and local crazy nobles lord ronnel and ser randyll of house paul. gets into melees with jordayne and danwell across the river. this is a paragraph to be understood by MAYBE two of my followers. Hi guys ^_^

VISERYS TARGARYEN: canonical character, brother of rhaena, jaehaerys, alysanne. visenya tyanna and maegor use valyrian blood magic to turn him mpreggable and maegor takes him to wife. yeah i know. also in this universe the targs start being born with various physical abnormalities called the dragon trait ^_^ probably thanks to the valyrian blood magic

VISERRA TARGARYEN: daughter of maegor and viserys. really really REALLY wanted to marry her older brother so she could be queen but got thwarted (brother was engaged to aerea daughter of rhaena, and a hightower). she was born with a forked tongue that the maesters sewed up but later in life she cuts it back open. has seven husbands like that booktok character<3 flies into the sun and dies. rider of vhagar

DAENYS TARGARYEN: daughter of maegor and viserys. born with stubby tail and wings which were removed and she was left with scars. phantom pain :) she is haunted and a lesbian. marries a stark after a stark rebellion and he sucks. ends up killing maegor with viserys<3

MARIS HIGHTOWER: wife of the son of maegor+viserys, jaehaerys. betrothed to appease ceryse and the hightowers over the mpreg thing. she is also a lesbian sorryyyyy i cant help it. has six children all of whom she outlives. somewhat neglectful to her younger three children due to the elder three being kind of crazy.

HELAENA TARGARYEN: eldest daughter of maris and jaehaerys, called the beauty literally all her life since birth. her elder brothers, twins aegon and aerion vie for her affection. aerion murders the high septon at like 14 after he finds out the guy was abusing helaena, and refuses to confess in order to protect helaena's dignity and he gets exiled to essos for it. later on after aegon is crowned, aerion does a paris and helen and kidnaps helaena. blah blah blah both die in battle against each other and helaena retires and later marries a nice hightower man. has one son with aegon and two with aerion. her daughter aerea later weds aegon's son jaehaerys. rider of dreamfyre

DAENERYS TARGARYEN: second daughter of maris and jaehaerys. one of the younger three who are a little neglected. after aerion was exiled, maris left with aegon helaena and her younger daughter maegelle to the hightower, leaving daenerys and her younger brother viserys alone at the red keep. daenerys later marries lord velaryon. after both her brothers die on the throne, she swoops in as queen regent for her great-nephew and rules for a decade. reconciles with her mother :)

DAENAERA VELARYON: wife of maris and jae's son aegon, maegor made polygamy legal for targs with the exception that they can marry one valyrian bride in the valyrian tradition and one westerosi bride in the Faithful tradition. she's the valyrian bride. has three sons, monterys lucerys and jacaerys. after her husband is killed she steals them away to dragonstone and besieges the island, refusing to leave or let her sons leave (her son monterys is the heir). various tragedies happen to her sons :)

JOCASTA LANNISTER: wife of maris and jae's son aegon in the faithful tradition. she is the daughter of viserra targaryen by her second lannister husband. super mad about being a sister-wife and especially mad cos since she's half targ she's more related to/more valyrian than daenaera, who is half baratheon and half lesser velaryon. has five children with aegon: rhaena laena jaehaerys helaena and viserion. after aegon dies, she remarries to a baratheon cos she wants to garner support for her son over daenaera's. she does win! her son does end up on the throne but only after aegon's brother viserys, daenerys, and daenaera's grandson daeron. boymom to the nth degree

ALYSANNE 'ANYA' TULLY: wife of jocasta's son jaehaerys, betrothed to garner the support of the riverlands. jae's wife-in-the-faith, opposite the wife-in-the-blood aerea daughter of helaena. she's very headstrong and has crazy-eyes. great-granddaughter of aenys targaryen through his daughter vaella targaryen (who survives in this au). bullies her second sister alyssa targ and her husband's later mistresses: jeyne storm of tarth, jeyne pryor, and alysanne hawthorne. she probably had the two jeynes killed.

ALYSANNE 'ALYSSA' TARGARYEN: second valyrian wife of jaehaerys. she's a targ through her grandfather viserys-son-of-maris even though viserys was gay (his wife alyssa arryn was mega nutso, did some turkey baster pregnancies and got in with r'hllor dont worry about it). last of her family branch so she's a little haunted. gets bullied by anya tully a lot but they sorta team up against the mistresses. alyssa has a lot of latent anger which she will never release of course and will only die with regret.

ALYSANNE 'RED ALY HAWBERRY' HAWTHORNE: young minor noblewoman who is kidnapped by the ironborn during a huge rebellion-raid thing thats quickly crushed. all the girls who got kidnapped were taken to the red keep to be treated (propaganda). the king takes a liking to her (shes 16, hes 34 🤢). she's naive and kind and sweet and loving and despised by her lover's wives. she's called the hawberry as a cute nickname but its morphs into everyone clearly saying it as whoreberry..... ends up unknowingly surviving several assassination attempts by the alysannes marrying the king! when he dies the illusions are fully shattered and she runs away with her two bastard daughters. she has strawberry blonde hair and wears pink flower crowns and loves everybody in the world (she's getting fidel castro'd so hard right now)

anyway thats wayyyyyyy too many jesus christ my bad my bad. thank you so so so much for your love and interest in my silly thoughts mwah mwah. i hope this is a fun read! im gonna finally release my long awaited much derided omaegorverse family tree soon :) KISSES

a bit of an interesting one, if dentists exist in the pmd universe, how would the characters of TPiaG react to having to go to the dentist?

(this ask may or may not have been inspired by me recently getting my wisdom teeth removed 🥲)

I’m not sure if they have a specialized field for dentistry in the PMD-verse I’ve set up, but doctors definitely have at least basic oral care and treatments as something they need to know. We’re gonna run on the idea that there are specialized dentists for this post, though!

Kip isn’t very nervous about going to the dentist. He just lies back and spends the appointment thinking about obscure historic subjects. He’s actually fallen asleep during a couple visits.

Twig, meanwhile, does NOT handle strangers being up close and personal with her very well WHATSOEVER. She’s focusing on breathing and nothing else. There are no returns of the dentist’s attempts at conversation. She’s just trying to survive this appointment and not be sick during it.

Grovyle isn’t much better than Twig. He’s able to indicate answers to questions when asked, but he’s just trying to get in and out. Ask not if he is in pain— for he will only tell you to work faster so he can be home sooner.

Celebi is immune to needing dentist visits because she just restores her body to a previous state whenever it gets a little less than tiptop operating condition. She taunts those who are less fortunate with this information.

Dusknoir and Ark’s mouths don’t work like that, and we can thank our lucky stars for this. In a Modern Human AU, I can see Dusknoir having never had a cavity.

if i had a nickel for every video game i enjoyed that featured a sorta greenish dentist who lost his moral compass after becoming disheartened and jaded from the cruelty of the world and growing up with awful parents, ended up as the villain of the story, and did evil dentistry operations at the top of a tower who ALSO has a short and anxiety-riddled assistant that secretly helps the main character take him down because they're too afraid to do it on their own i would have two nickels which isn't a lot but is sure is weird it happened twice

a colored sketch of Mr Cures : ) just entirely unnatural in coloration, to reflect how ascension came about! their previous title was the Khan of Teeth, but Mr Cures changed titles because, well, good lord these Londoners know nothing of dentistry or caring for the self. Mr Cures is responsible for much of the "laymans knowledge" of "folksy cures" in the Neath: it deliberately circulated little rhymes and sayings that have now become commonplace. Mr Cures has a wide array of areas it has laid claim to: teeth & dentistry for one (as its culture of origin has had dental plazas discovered, as well as remnants of plants on teeth indicating their use as medicinal aids), but also surgery in general in addition to medicine and folk cures. It can be considered benevolent -- at least in comparison to some of its comrades like Veils, Fires, and Stones -- but Mr Cures has machinations of its own, and becomes incensed when confronted with encroachment upon its domain. In particular, it has been known to tear asunder London/Victorian doctors who refuse to acknowledge that a cure that isn't deemed "scientifically acceptable" can still be useful. When your office operates under Mr Cures, it's best to keep an ear open for remedies passed down through the generations, because Mr Cures takes special care to ensure these are continued on.

Random head canon:

The year Deeks went to FLETC, was one of the darkest points of his life. Arguably some of his time working one awful undercover operation after another looked worse on the surface. At least then he’d had the drive to wake up every morning and lost himself in the covers, even if death seemed an all too likely event. No, the way he felt 2020 probably tied with his life post-Sidorov and his amateur dentistry in terms of mindset. With the bar failing, his career hanging by a thread, dwindling funds, trying to buy a house, and infertility, everything felt…pointless. Kensi was the one of the few bright spots amongst all the grimness. Even then it felt like he was failing when he found her in tears or miserable over their inability to have a baby. He managed to pull it together to get through FLETC (he’d always excelled at “fake it til you make it” after all) and compete alongside his much younger fellow cadets. Based on Kensi’s daily and nightly calls, she probably realized he wasn’t in a great mindset, but no one knew just how hard he was struggling.

kinnporsche ep. 7: Love Bomb

-we start out with a recon mission, live grenade slapstick, and ”a win for the minor family”-- whatever the hell that means (vegas showing up at the last minute with the cavalry, maybe?). any win for the minor family is a loss for the main family, even though they’re nominally on the same side & the two families pool information and resources regularly. but they still seem to mutually regard one another as the real enemy. god, everyone in Mafia is so untrusting.

-pete’s the one who calls off big while he’s whaling on their prisoner, but not from squeamishness: he just doesn’t trust big to properly hurt their songbird without accidentally killing him. their methods of violence are blunt and unsubtle, not suited for interrogation. time for vegas to step in. 

we’re indulging in the tv fantasy that torture actually works (it does not). anyway, this scene is less about the plot information they glean, and more about establishing both vegas’s sadism and pete’s reaction to it. the camera pans down the line of bodyguards all looking disturbed and disgusted only to land on pete, who looks calm, clear-eyed, and contemplative. he always knew vegas was a dangerous, volatile man and gave him a correspondingly wide berth, apparently content to avoid him as much as possible. the torture scene seems to change something about the way he regards vegas, and he watches him perform unregistered dentistry with a kind of detached speculation, like he just figured out there’s something here worth studying.

-unaware he’s just placed himself on pete’s radar, vegas is still fixated on porsche, demanding that kinn loan him out for some sort of sting operation or... something. idk, the plot is by far the least compelling part of this show.

anyway, kinn has no choice but to concede, which sucks but leads to a sweet moment where he confesses this is the first time he’s ever felt it would be preferable to be humiliated by the minor family’s “success” if it means porsche comes back to him safely. as usual, the slightest bit of affirmation from kinn has porsche glowing.

-vegas sweet-talking porsche is comedically unnatural. he’s clearly trying to impress him with an idyllic nickel tour of the sausage factory, and while i can see porsche appreciating the comparatively laid-back atmosphere, he’s a.) capable of comprehending that the minor family is just as politically fraught as the main family, so there’s hardly a guarantee he would be any safer or happier here than there, and b.) not taken in by vegas’s nicey-nice senior brother schtick, which is fake as hell and way less likely to work now that kinn is being a human to him. he just kinda takes in the scenery without letting it touch him-- you can tell his thoughts are elsewhere.

-is there any significance to pete bowing to the little shrine in the hallway, or is that just pete character building? the mary statue at the party later seems quite deliberately centered as well, but if there’s some deeper symbolism there i’m not getting it.

-korn’s “knife talk” is chilling and succinct: he can see kinn has developed strong feelings for porsche and is sympathetic, but kinn had better not mistake sympathy for permission. the explicitly dehumanizing metaphor of the knife “ruined” through love... yikes, korn. 

-i’m curious about vegas and macau’s relationship. macau is suddenly being very reasonable to the guy he blames for sending him to swim with the fishes. it’s tempting to assume that vegas simply scared him into making nice, but i suspect it’s a little more complicated than that. for one thing, when macau was bitching and bleeding back at the major family’s compound, vegas was the only one in the room who actually like, checked to see that he was okay. besides, if macau were simply scared into making up with porsche i would expect him to act... y’know, scared? avoidant at least? instead he’s coming off pretty earnest, like he’s sincerely trying to wingman his brother, and there’s that conspiratorial smile-and-nod as he passes vegas on his way out. i’m sure he’s aware that vegas is not someone to be crossed, and vegas might even have used some intimidation to ensure macau falls in line-- but i bet that was just one prong of his approach. maybe he also appealed to their mutual desire to one-up the main family, or reminded him that porsche is just a pawn and not worth holding a grudge against. i think their relationship, though largely glossed-over, is one of the more intriguing ones in a show with a lot of very complicated brotherly bonds.

-chay is an unbearably fluffy, cute baby rabbit and kim is the fox whose open jaws he is unthinkingly napping in. i find myself incredibly tense during their scenes together.

-surprising exactly no one, kinn is a Mean Jealous, breaking out the old “you belong to me and i can give you to whoever i like” rhetoric when porsche so much as teases him for being possessive. vegas reads the room and likes his chances, although i think both he and kinn are doing porsche a disservice here: he is not the kind of person to transfer his loyalties so easily, and he’s put up with way worse from kinn before. still, i do wish kinn would put a fucking sock in it.

-vegas and porsche actually work pretty well as a battle couple; in fact a few of their moves will be repeated later on in the big kinn/porsche action climax. it’s possible that vegas/porsche’s fight compatibility is meant to make the V/K/P love triangle more believable as a conflict, but in my opinion all it really does is highlight porsche’s O negative personality type. romantically, i’m not remotely sold on these two, and it’s plain that neither is porsche. they sure are pretty, though.

-oh my god, porsche’s smug lil face when kinn shows up to growl vegas away from his man-- porsche is loving the impassioned defense of his honor for the .3 seconds it takes him to realize kinn blames him for almost getting vegased in a bathroom. (great slap btw. apo puts his whole upper body into that slap.)

-i could easily do a deep analysis of the bathroom scene alone, but since it would chiefly boil down to “hot. hot. hot. hot. hot. hot. hot,” i’ll refrain. however, to be just a little upstairs-brain about it, i’ll say: they make nice use of the bathroom set (the counters to drunkenly sprawl across, the narrow claustrophobic shape of the room, the uh... mirror); the blocking is really good & motivated (porsche’s little turn away & curling in on himself stands out-- he’s seizing a tiny fragment of privacy from kinn, but is unwilling to actually leave the room and is in fact inviting kinn to box him in). the scene accomplishes a lot in terms of both character and shipbuilding, and is a welcome confirmation that kinn is not about to absolutely revert now that he’s back under his dad’s thumb. he has come to need porsche, enough to make an absolute ass of himself; and porsche needs kinn enough to forgive him.

Also: hot.

FOX, JOSEPH (1775-1816). The natural history of the human teeth. Printed in London for J. Cox, 1803. 100 pages. 13 illustrations. 30 cm tall.

Welcome to spring, everyone! As we count down to longer days, more sun, flowers in bloom, and a twitterpated animal kingdom, I naturally want to talk about...teeth. So let's sink our teeth into Joseph Fox's (1775-1816) The natural history of the human teeth (first edition - 1803).

Joseph Fox was a trailblazer in dentistry who made significant contributions to the field during the early 19th century. Born in London in 1775, Fox received his medical training at Guy's Hospital. A student of John Hunter and Henry Cline, Joseph Fox was eventually appointed the first lecturer on dentistry at Guy's Hospital.  He was the first dental surgeon appointed to a hospital position and one of the first medical practitioners to devote themselves completely to the care of teeth.

For those with dental anxiety, you can thank Dr. Fox for stressing the need for regular dentist visits. He argued this was especially important for children as they grew and "shed" their first set of teeth.

Fox cared deeply for his profession and wrote and lectured on the importance of improving the quality and standards of dentistry. He stressed that dentistry must have a scientific foundation as it was a medical field.

Beyond teeth, Fox was a passionate proponent of Edward Jenner and vaccination, even offering up his house as a vaccination location, and helped to found the Jenner Society. He was also involved in educational and abolitionist causes.

From 1799 until his death, Fox lectured on dentistry at Guy's Hospital in London. Based on his lectures, he first published The natural history of the human teeth in 1803 and the companion volume, The history and treatment of the diseases of the teeth, in 1806.

Improving and expanding the work of foundational dental scholars, such as Pierre Fouchard, these were the first works in English to provide instructions for the correction of certain dental irregularities. They also have several detailed and sometimes striking illustrations, including the first to show operative procedures and dental pathologies.

There were many editions, including in other languages, and though much of his theory of oral physiology and pathology was of dubious value, his operative procedures remained in vogue for more than fifty years. Along with the clinical and surgical aspects of the book, Fox also provides his thoughts on the biggest issues in the profession, giving the reader a fuller context of the profession at the time.

The book is bound in blue-painted paper over thin paper boards and rebacked with a thick cloth spine. The book is not only striking for its illustrations but also for the text pages. As can be seen from the image above, the book was printed with slightly larger type and very large margins. Anyone with eyesight as poor as mine is grateful for that.

Something interesting occurred to me while reading your latest Loboto fic. The way you write him pre-Thorney Towers is a lot more serious and composed compared to post-'treatment' where he is more childish and impulsive. It is a really cool detail showing the damage done to him and how it still affects him years later.

I don't know that he was always super mature--that latest fic just showed him in a handful of more serious moments. He's always had a silly and slightly "childish" streak to him.

Thinking on it more, I don't think his "childish" behavior is necessarily related to his trauma. I think it may be that he always had that, but it was more, like, suppressed due to his strict upbringing? But as he distanced himself more from his parents and old life, he got to embrace his childish/weird side more, but due to everything he'd been through it sorta came out as more unhinged, if that makes sense.

Like, in one of my other fics I mention that when he was a patient in Thorney Towers, he had to be kept separate from other patients, because if kept in a room with them, he would attempt to perform dentistry on them. Which, like, is not even remotely ethical, but he loves dentistry and he never got to have his license and they caught him trying to run an unlicensed operation so SCREW IT! Who cares! His roommate has a bad tooth and he'll be danged if he's not gonna pull it!!

If he hadn't lost his moral compass then it would never have come to that--he would've just been a really weird but competent dentist who really enjoys his job.

I am very tired

Long time no see, right? Sorry I disappeared so suddenly. I was again faced with serious problems in my life. Unfortunately, this time it is my physical illnesses.

Due to severe depression, I had not been to the dentist for years, had not brushed my teeth or taken other dental care methods for months. Now it has made itself felt. I can only pay for an operation that I will have in the near future, but about ten teeth are bad. I am an unemployed student who also needs to pay for my studies. I hate myself for being in this situation.

What death causes the most frequent nightmares?

Surgical tools are fucked up. Dentistry tools moreso. Which makes sense. Flesh and muscle are hardy. Teeth are as strong as bones. Stronger actually, due to the lack of living material within. One would need quite sharp tools to operate with. Hence the fucked up-ness of dentistry tools. But a person can do a lot more than dentistry with them y'know!

It especially helps when one is under a decent dosage of tetrodotoxin, often sourced from pufferfish. By blocking the transfer of sodium ions between cells it causes paralysis in the muscles.

Not exactly something you wanna be under whilst being wheeled off on a stretcher into a killer dentist's office.

The first thing you see is the white. The glaring, harsh and cold white. It's almost blinding, really. You count the tiles in the ceiling. 48. You count the teeth in your jaw. 32.

Sterile. You can smell the cleanliness. The rubber cuts through the air, a sickeningly blunt smell. Bubblegum. From the mouthwash used. Kids mouthwash.

The lights. Have I mentioned the lights? The bright white lights glare down from bright white ceilings in a bright white room so sterile it smells of death.

For a second, anyways. You're good at detecting lies too. Then the sounds of blood return.

Rubber gloves. You can taste it. The cold metallic buzz is in your mouth. And pliers. Held by a slightly shaky hand.

You're scared now. Terrified.

Crunch. It's sickening how fast that was.

Time passes by. The metallic taste gets stronger. You're choking on it. You don't know where your teeth went. Something red spills. A welcome difference from the artificial blues and whites.

The corners of your vision are red. Red like that liquid.

Some moments later, you wake up in your bed wondering how much was real.

You check the ceiling. Wood. You can't count those. You check your teeth. 32. Sharp as ever.

You're shaking. Why? It was just a dream. Pathetic.

And then you decide it's not worth it to go back to sleep.

updates on Attempting To Get A Wisdom Tooth Taken Out With Shitty Insurance: called 2 locations of the hospital network where i got a bunch of eye stuff recently, neither takes my insurance for dental; called 2 locations of the NYC health & hospitals network that's allegedly my major network for insurance for this specific insurance, one of which only gives you the option to leave a voice mail and has not in the past 36 hours called me back, the other of which seems to go to a phone tree for something that is not the oral surgery clinic at this hospital and glitched when i followed the instructions to talk to an operator; called columbia school of dentistry and was told they do not take my insurance and when i asked in desperation how much it would cost out of pocket was told "if you have insurance you can't be self pay," which is crazy because you'd think the one thing the horror of the american medical system would guarantee is the ability to pay out the ass with my real american dollars if i wanted to, but apparently not. i have to go do something now so i can't act on this yet but it did just occur to me to turn to the true search engine of the people (googling various combinations of "wisdom tooth nyc reddit" and following whatever leads come up) so maybe that will give me something. or maybe i will just spend the next eight months wanting to curl up into the fetal position every 30 minutes to 3 hours depending on how often the horrible stabbing pain shows up that day!
