A little after Midnights was released, I had seen a tiktok explaining that Taylor had made a contract with Target, so that the deluxe version of the album would be Target exclusive (this means, no other store other than Taylor’s website and target could sell it). That’s why it’s not available on streaming platforms, like YouTube and Spotify. I clearly remember looking it up and both her site and Wikipedia would mention that Midnights deluxe was a Target exclusive album. But for some reason, for the past 3 weeks, I can’t find any sign to confirm this, although as I said I do remember reading all about it longer back. So idk if that contract has changed. Anyway...
Apparently, Taylor had 8 songs that she wanted to release (or more that we don’t know of👀) and chose to give only one of them to Target, keep the other 7, and release them in digital form under a different name (“3am version” and not “deluxe edition”). I guess it was more profitable for her to have as many songs as possible available for streaming, while also having a deal with Target. She basically tried to get the best of both worlds, in order to satisfy her fans and make the most profit. I have to admit that it was very smart of her business-wise, but I personally can’t say I’m a fan of this decision.
I really wish there was one version of the album, with all songs, and that it would exist in both physical and digital form, so we could be able to buy one CD and stream all the songs in order, and not having to choose like this.
