My daughter's clever, but also very fucking stupid, dog managed to get six gummies out of a closed childproof container that was on a 4' tall rolling laptop table. So now I'm sitting up all night trip-sitting a 50 pound hound who has -- so far -- startled himself seven times with the presence of his own foot. He keeps going to lick his junk, forgetting halfway there what he was about to do, and then being startled at this foot just hanging there over his face.
(The emergency vet said with what he ingested and his weight, he'll be fine, just stoned for like 2 days. Please take this as a reminder to make sure that no matter how secure you think your weed is, dogs are clever, and please doublecheck where your stuff is left. Cap and Rumba were literally left alone in the living room long enough for Evie to walk one of the other dogs, and we still have no idea how the fuck he got them down. Locked boxes, y'all. For real.)
So, like, this boy is just sitting here, confused by his own feet & ripping absolutely apocalyptic farts. Yeah, buddy, that's what you get when you eat 60 mg of THC in one go, I guess.

Hi! I'm Bear, a disabled trans person. My 3 year old cat, Oliver, is really sick. He has FIP, which is typically fatal if untreated. There is treatment, but it is expensive, and I'm on disability and have already exhausted my options for funding getting him to this point. I'm at over $1,000 already spent.
I'm trying to crowdfund it.
Oliver is a really special lad and I want to see him grow old. He loves riding around on my shoulder and getting into things he's not supposed to. I appreciate help in any form, be it contributions of any size or just sharing. As thanks, I give this picture of him before he got sick, with me while I was making breakfast. This is the usual morning routine when he's well.

Poor Clara had a rough night - after some worrying symptoms I had to bring her in to the emergency vet at 11PM. After a bunch of tests and almost five hours, it just turned out to be an upset stomach, easily treated. Extremely relieved!!

My dog Ollie has reached the end of his life. After his initial cancer diagnosis I was convinced he only had weeks left, but he held on for a year. He gave us that. He’s been the dog people dream of having. Loving, loyal, obsessed with tennis balls and counter surfing only when you aren’t home.
He’s going to go to sleep at 8am tomorrow I’m having trouble processing that this is my last night with him. He stayed his bright puppy self for so long, but it’s finally gone away. It’s time.
He was born on the Fourth of July, the fireworks are for him for the rest of my life

Apologies for being a few days behind. My cat got sick and it's been a stressful couple of days worrying about him and taking him to the emergency vet. He's doing better now and it looks like he's going to be okay.

August 7th. This is extremely urgent. My cat Madeline is sick, and needs veterinary care.
Tumblr media
The vet has quoted us at $150 for the initial assessment and assessment, $450 for an enema and bowel medication, then up to $500 if further treatment is necessary (urinary flush, medication, etc).
I'm living off disability and do not have any savings. I am using my food money to cover her intake costs at the moment.
I am begging for help. Madeline means the world to me. She's been with me through some of the worst parts of my life and I don't want her to suffer just because I'm poor. Please help me I don't know what to do.

I made a post on twitter about it but I'm desperate for help so I'm also making a post on tumblr as well, info on the tweet.
(CW PET DEATH, PET LOSS, PET SICKNESS) tldr; my dog bean is suffering from the same disease that took my late dog zero who I sadly had to euthanise because I couldn't pay for his vet appointments + age and how advanced his tumors were. it's very early on for Bean so I want to do all in my hands to take care of him and his vet appointments to make sure he lives as long as he can. this dog is my family and all I have here. I'm desperate.

That sounds more positive than what I read before about Toos. Hope the little thing is feeling better and has a better appetite. :)
i cannot begin to describe how insane the change in her has been. ok i'm gonna get emotional with you anon, lets bond.
on the last vet visit she had, last friday, so a week ago now, the vet was convinced the pills weren't working because her kidneys went from stage 3 to stage 4 within a half a week or so, and that there was a good chance she's suffering and that we should say enough. the vet then essentially told my dad to book the appointment to have her put to sleep, without consulting my mother or me, because she was that bad. as it was a weekend, he could only book it for monday morning, very early. and so he did. we believed the weekend was the last days we'd have with her.
but over the weekend.. she changed. she went from being unable to stand, walk, eat, do anything, to having.. life and energy again. to eating whole chicken breasts and taking her pills beautifully, she drinks lots, to being able to walk around our large garden and do laps, her toilet is regular and looks healthy. it was like actively watching her fight to get better despite everything. so we cancelled the appointment, and bought more pills, since she didn't have more than the weekends worth.
we've been making sure she eats daily, switching up her meals if she refuses, she's been eating chicken, rice, egg, salmon, mackerel, ham, various other things and dog treats, she's been taking her pills too. sometimes she struggles, and it takes awhile for her to eat or take her pills, but she always does every day without fail. she's started to bark again, to wag again, her head is held high, her ears are perky, she runs! she was running! and she's kissed me!!! it's almost been confusing for my brain like, she's just like toos again, but i know she isn't, and i need to be mindful, but oh my god? she's just a normal dog again.
of course she has moments, especially after waking, where she is very wobbly and weak and it takes her awhile to wake up proper and get strong again. and she also sleeps all the time. but man, she's really doing okay. i mean - today has been not great, this is the worse she's been this week, but man.. considering we thought we had a weekend.. i can't begin to tell you how happy i am having a week with her where she's been herself. i'm still hopeful, maybe today was an off day, but if it isn't.. i can't be disappointed. she's fought so hard, yknow? she's such a brave lil baby. i love her so much

Poor Flynnie has to have an ultrasound scan on Thursday :( He is STILL having some pretty severe gut problems, 2 months after they started... Plus, the most recent blood test we did showed up some slightly “off” results, nothing major but various levels were a bit higher, or lower than they should be - including some stuff related to kidney function.
After seeing the results, the vet asked me to get a urine sample. It turns out Flynn’s losing protein in his urine & his urine is also too dilute. High protein levels in urine often happens because a dog has chronic kidney disease but it can also be a temporary issue, due to infection/inflammation, (or other illnesses... like cancer, which I hope is very unlikely to be the cause here). Regardless of the reason it is happening, it puts a strain on the kidneys. Or, in Flynn’s case, a strain on his kidney. Singular. Flynn only has 1 kidney... so we really can’t mess around with this. He’s now on a “renal diet” & if it’s safe, may start on ACE inhibitors to reduce strain on his kidney. The ultrasound will look at both Flynn’s gut & his kidney, so I guess we’ll just have to wait & see if anything shows up.
I lost Barney, less than 3 weeks ago - after he’d had the exact same infection as Flynn. Barney went from having mild kidney disease, to being in kidney failure in the space of less than a month. Barney was very elderly, of course... but, still... I don’t know what is going on with Flynn. He’s been treated twice for giardia infection, we’ve been manically cleaning to prevent reinfection, he’s on probiotics & was on GI food. He is an apparently otherwise healthy dog & he really should be getting better by now & instead, if anything he seems in some ways worse than he was 6-8 weeks ago. Argh, I am so stressed. My poor little guy :(

Oliver's been on FIP treatment for nearly a month, so it was time for blood tests today. As far as FIP goes, his blood looks phenomenal! He's doing fantastic on the treatment. However, I have an answer finally as to why he is still losing weight and having some trouble: Oliver is fucking diabetic.
Tumblr media
When it rains it pours, am I right? So, the good thing is I do have pet insurance and they should cover it, and I have CareCredit to use to front the costs before reimbursement. The bad thing is that I don't know if his insurance will reimburse the supportive care he's receiving for FIP *(a little more on this at the end), and I now have consistent costs I will have to be putting on the card. Not everything is covered for the diabetic care, either way, and I will only get reimbursed for 90% of what is covered.
If I were handling this without the FIP, I would be able to figure it out. Alongside the FIP, though, I'm .. well, I'm worried about how I'm going to juggle both of these. I haven't quite reached my goal for covering just the base expected cost of the treatment, and getting his treatment costs squared away would be a major relief. I'm hopeful I can regain some momentum on this, and deeply thankful for any additional support. I'll be posting some pics and videos of him later too. Now that he's getting his energy back he can help me advocate for him :)
* Re: FIP and insurance: FIP treatment is not covered. You can look it up to learn why. It will probably make you as angry as it makes me.

Buddy kitty has lost a third of his already reduced body weight since his last vet appointment. He's down from 9.5 to 5.9 lbs. I don't think he has long to go before his victory lap comes to an end. We got new blood work started, to check dosages for his medications, and he'll probably be starting on an anti nausea med. The vet understands that we're on board for low stress (on the cat) palliative care. No heroic measures, nothing that will stress him out unnecessarily. His meds need to mix into his food, or he's not going to get them. That we're ready to say our goodbyes, but we don't want to cut him short. He's still doing basic cat things, and seeking out affection and forbidden snacks. The old man has life left to live, and we're going to make it as comfortable for him as we can.

mutual aid post for my cat jupiter
Tumblr media
just learned that my cat Jupiter has diabetes and his recent treatment has been very expensive, so i'm accepting donations/comissions on a pay-what-you-want basis. mostly this is mutual aid but i want to offer something back if you send me money. details and sample art in replies
you can send me an art request and a donation through paypal, ko-fi, or cashapp. i'll provide art for any donation higher than $5. you can DM me (with proof of donation) if you need to provide references
Paypal link Ko-fi link $soundoff95
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
this is roughly the level of effort/quality you can expect, but i'll definitely try to put in more effort for higher donations. again, i just want to give back to those who are willing/able to help
Jupiter is about seven years old and very dependent on me due to severe separation anxiety. his recent treatment--including medicine for pain and diabetes--ran me almost 1k dollars. i was able to afford it, but i'm hoping to recoup some of the cost.
i'm a trans woman with very low income, so every unexpected expense is a massive setback in terms of my plans to save for an eventual move to a safer state with my partner. Jupiter takes precedent over everything else in my life, so I'm willing to spend whatever i need to in order to ensure he is healthy and safe.
that being said, it's at the point where i turn to asking for help on the internet, and while i can't offer much in return, any small donation of $5 or more will receive a drawing of whatever you request. turnaround time will depend on how many donations i get, but i'll try to get something done asap!
if you have any questions at all please feel free to DM me. if this gains a lot of traction i might have to increase the minimum d0nation for an art piece, but i don't anticipate that will happen. Thank you for any help you can provide or even just for reading/sharing!

Breeze (younger cat) is sick, and we THINK it's just a bad cold but. He's eating and drinking less and less and I'm worried he ate something he shouldn't have. He already got a weekend at the vet hospital a few years ago. What did I do wrong this time.

How is Haru so chunky in comparison with the other kitties? I myself have a chunky cat that got chunky out of nowhere and is now obsessed with food, also out of nowhere.
Well ya see, when he was but a young lad he nearly died because he wasn't eating enough and wasn't pooping. Then he started eating and pooping........a lot.
So initially it was good because he was so underweight. Baby needed the nutrition. But now he uh...he lub food. 🥴
I'm hoping that we can course correct with portion sizes and getting him off of kitten kibble because he fuckin loves kitten kibble but eats a normal amount of adult kibble. The concern is his digestion because we've had so much poop struggle over his lifetime that for now it's like...we can get him on track weight wise when we know for sure he can cut turds regularly lmfao
The vet wasn't concerned and was more happy to see him growing and healthy. It would only really become a concern if he gets older and he stays this particular proportion.
I'd probably eat a lot too if I went for months thinking food was bad and hurt me, then it was okay again.
He also got very spoiled from eating wet food with his medication (also contributing to his...growth...) so any time he hears dishes he thinks it's for him lmfao.
It's extra work because the others have excellent portion control on their own, but I love him and will make sure he's happy and healthy one way or another.

Tumblr media
For reference, he was 3 months here, and severely underdeveloped. We never really figured out why because he was eating well. Then we had a nightmare vet that destroyed his guts with some questionable choices. No poop for days. Enemas, laxatives, etc. It got so scary that we were just a day or two away from him crashing completely. If you're familiar with Wisp the cat, it was not dissimilar to Wisp's situation for a while.
So after all of that, Haru was fighting a nasty infection he likely had THAT ENTIRE TIME so it had gotten particularly bad. His tummy also reacts poorly to antibiotics, so even after poop nightmares, the horrors persisted.
Only over the last few weeks have we gotten back on track so what I'm hoping is that over the next few months we reach a normal weight. There's also the chance he's just beefier than the others, which is certainly okay if his health isn't at risk. With regulated food and time he should grow into this weight and shed the excess pounds.
