the last unicorn post from earlier has me thinking about the master. that yana is still in there, you know? is still someone he was, if even for a brief flash across the life of a time lord. there’s no way to unlive that life. there are ways to twist it later, sure, to make utopia into hell on earth. but the life was lived. in much the same way that the doctor can remember, can feel, the love he held onto as john smith even as that life is ripped out of his hands. the doctor choose denial and then grief and then to shutter it all away. and so john smith died, and so professor yana died, and the doctor and the master live on. the doctor has done this before, and he lives in orbit around humanity, trying to keep the best parts of them and hold them deep enough to take root (which he can pretend he gets to choose, as a time lord. as a human, it all floods in and can’t be dug back out.) but what about the master, right?

to borrow a turn of phrase: i think there are two time lords left in the universe, and they both learned how to regret.

#regret here meaning less feeling the emotion of actual regret obviously because time lords do not actually funxtion on unicorn rules. they #already get sad just fine on their own. no humanity needed for that. #but i dont know. i just dont think he brushed it off so easily. i think he did a hell of a job convincing himself he did. #and what better way then to twist his own great works and destroy the species he was working so hard to save at the end of the universe. #but what about the knowledge that he *could* be that person. that somewhere in him exists a version that wanted to save people. #a version that is painfully too much like the doctor. even. now is that part worse or better than the human part? #but if past regenerations are ghosts i think yana deserves a haunt. #anyway maybe ignore this one im rambling about nothing here #theres just. i dont know. what if you were the last of your kind and in surviving you made yourself Not Like Them in a way you’ll never #escape. #i mean doctor who is just so concerned with all these plots about hybrids and children of the tardis and clones and What Makes A Time Lord. #but they’re so obsessed with it in just. a very Lore way. is what it feels like. we get brushes of more like with jenny and how she’s #physically a time lord and the doctor denies her that inheritance. a shared suffering… #but me myself im just fascinated with the doctor and the master as the time lords who survived. but they survived Wrong #its. its. children of gallifrey that don’t belong to her anymore. you know? #i dont care if river’s got time lord dna!!! or the metacrisis is physically human!!! i dont care!!! talk to me about what it means beyond #their blood and bones!!! what’s it like to have your sense of self stripped from you like that!!! #what’s it like when so much of you is the shed skin of time lords past. but one of you was human. one of you was painfully *humiliatingly* #human!!! #enough about how much dna you need to count as a time lord. i want to know how much they can mutate until they can’t be recognized as one. #does that make sense?

the way i rewatch any part of rottmnt and once again come away from canon leo wondering where the actual heck are people getting this “oohhhh he only thinks he’s good for self sacrifice or as a tool, he has absolutely zero self worth whatsoever” instead of the canon version who’s kind of a manipulative lil stinker and KNOWS he has stuff to bring to the table but isn’t sure how to be Seen

it’s not that he thinks he’s worthless or not wanted. i fuckin promise you that about rise leo. he does not seriously think he is unloved or unwanted or ~one mistake away from being dropped by his own family~ or whatever

what he IS is rejection-sensitive in the way that makes any time he fails feel like the end of the world to HIM (setting aside that time he messed up and it did literally trigger the near-apocalypse and near deaths of him and his family lol), so he’d rather not try than risk messing up

getting deeply back into caves of qud again. built a character with metamorphosis so i could transform into an overpowered npc and level like crazy - turns out xp scales at the npc's level though.

however, i ended up getting wings as my first pick of random mutations on levelling so im not abandoning the character im just gonna find a stronger guy to change into and fight some late game area shit since ive never had a character get that far

#dont tell the devs that the metamorphosis level cap doesn't work. the whole metamorphosis mutation actually feels very wip #but it does have such good potential. i wish skills transferred over tho. almost starved when mr joppa warden was not able to camp #and frankly from an rp perspective even if physical stats didnt transfer (logical) im pretty sure id still know my skills #caves of qud

​this may not be very coherent bc I have a narsty cold but it’s something I don’t see talked about much— I’ve been thinking about how much I enjoy the fact that Peter Parker/Spider-Man is kind of creepy. Like. I love that he’s got that freaky “teleport when you’re not looking” ability spiders have, the creepy crawling, the fast and unpredictable movements, the eerie stillness, the hanging, the warning that they’re around with entangling traps or even just dissolving cobwebs that let you know they’re in the area. the kind of animalistic, unnatural, disturbing parts of being a spider that makes spiders, and spider-man, so cool

#spider-man #I got reminded abt this last night w that scene in the first Raimi spider-man movie where Peter is hiding #and everytime someone looks at where he was he’s crawled to another location so fucking quickly EXACTLY like how spiders do #when he crawls around super fast or slowly and it kind of evokes the same ‘oh jeez’ feeling when spiders do it #when he’s just hanging in a corner completely stone still and you know he’s getting ready #I’m sure villains and the like get a little freaked when they see his webs around the same way you’d be like ‘oh god that’s a big spider’ #when you see a new and big ass spider web in the basement #the way he’s got the ability now to just. crawl in such a creepy way #bc his tendons and such are just. mutated in a way now that he can just contort #I think spiders are cool (I have a slight phobia but I fight hard against it bc spiders are cool af) but they have the occupational hazard #of having very fast bug movements that just set off alarm bells in the human brain bc evolution #and I love that Peter has that now. sometimes it’s like it’s just the costume that gives him the spider like stuff #but he’s just Like that. it’s easy to feel like he’s just a normal human guy under there but he’s no longer that at least physically #that’s one of the reasons I absolutely love it when Peter does spider stuff in normal human clothes. it’s like a reminder

both my parents have covid (again)

#:) #i'm physically okay for the moment. nothing more than a little itchy throat #that said my parents have caught covid once a month every month since like september at this point which is like. that's Not Good right #like they are basically being repeatedly exposed and infected and not building a shred of immunity against it which kind of worries me! #i last had covid in october-ish and then skipped over getting sick the next couple times until now maybe #so my infection pattern is very much every 4-6 months depending on variant mutation #but my parents are on their third covid infection since christmas. like that's gotta be repeat infections of the same strain which uh. #i don't know too much about illnesses and diseases but i think something unfortunate is happening to their immune systems

One thing I forgot to mention about Khare is that there was another set of DNA markers spliced into her genetic make-up, specifically that of surinam toads. Not only do they have considerable regenerative properties due to the way they breed, there's a good chance that down the line, she won't need another partner to start spawning perfect little replicas from her very flesh.
