Image, recto, verso, context. Approaching Deltiology as a method
Recently, I have put down some ideas about a deltiological method, i.e. the systematic analysis of picture postcards. The text is now online and can be found, read or downloaded here:

Since coming out of the hospital and learning of the spy, Vincent has been more vigilant of his surroundings. He felt uneasy that someone might still be following him...even in another country. After resting he was a bit more alert, so just to be cautious, he asked Jay if he had any hats to wear to hide his face, especially in the busy town centre.
Some paintings in the building caught Renee's attention and she took some photos. One stood out in particular. It had a plane statue and she could see some people in the background. Armed with weapons.
Transcript:
Renee: Jay do you know what these paintings are of?
Jay: These are of Chestnut Ridge and the plane one…I dunno. Maybe the next town? Or made up?
Renee: Oasis Springs doesn't look like that. I wonder if that's Strangerville.

In his musing on the postcard as a form of writing, Jacques Derrida argued that the immediacy and the public accessibility of the message in the postcard makes the text ultimately less important than the image, which is what remains when the card is resold in the antique shop. Thus, the image is what ensures the postcard’s afterlife, what carries it into the future

⋅˚₊‧ Florence spent the entire weekend catching up on Landgraab’s Anatomy (LMFAO) in an attempt to drown out the emotions she’s been feeling lately.… this house would’ve been her childhood home..
It’s bittersweet living there, but the memories her parents left behind only leave her with more questions about who they were, and who she could be…

From a collection of picture postcards used by an anonymous artist in search of inspiration for his paintings. The series of old picture postcards of ports and seascapes were once used by the artist seeking inspiration for his oil paintings and appear to have lain on the studio floor - probably around his easel, to judge by the multi-coloured paint spatters with which they are covered.
