https://insidethemagic.net/2023/08/mattel-to-end-barbie-production-after-federal-plastic-ban-jtc1/
The title is misleading, they are not stopping production of Barbies. Mattel announced they are going to have all Barbies be made of 100% recycled material by 2030, and will be moving away from plastics all together soon after. They hope to have dolls made of "mushroom mycelium, algae, seaweed, clays, wood cellulose and bamboo". They are also trying to make more diverse Barbies. In the article they mention working with people with down syndrome to develop a barbie with down syndrome! Hopefully they make more Barbies that have congenital disabilities and facial differences! (I believe they already have a barbie that uses a wheelchair, I'm not sure about other mobility devices though)
I've loved Barbies since I was little and I'm so happy they are moving towards sustainable production! I hate that a big influence of my childhood has contributed to the huge amount of plastic waste in our environment.

5 November 2023 | Northwest Prairie Lutheran Church Cemetery, Vernon County, Wisconsin
Arrived at this cemetery the day after the lawn mower. Hoping they intend to clean this up, but it’s more likely to get worked into the soil of the neighboring crop land.
Illegalize plastic flowers.

Did you know that the ocean produces at least 50% of our planet’s oxygen? World Oceans Day serves us as a reminder of the importance of the oceans in our daily lives. They are the planet's lungs, a major source of food and medicine, and an essential component of the biosphere. Let’s come together for sustainable efforts and stopping plastic pollution in order to save the oceans.
With 90% of big fish populations depleted, and 50% of coral reefs destroyed, we are taking more from the ocean than can be replenished. To protect and preserve the ocean and all it sustains, we must create a new balance, rooted in true understanding of the ocean and how humanity relates to it. We must build a connection to the ocean that is inclusive, innovative, and informed by lessons from the past.
Today we raise awareness about impact of human actions on the ocean by developing a worldwide movement for the ocean.
Today we renew our commitment to protect the worlds oceans, for this generation and for those to come.
This year’s United Nations World Oceans Day, on 8 June 2022, will highlight the theme Revitalization: Collective Action for the Ocean.
“The ocean connects, sustains, and supports us all. Yet its health is at a tipping point and so is the well-being of all that depends on it. As the past years have shown us, we need to work together to create a new balance with the ocean that no longer depletes its bounty but instead restores its vibrancy and brings it new life.”

The February Clean-Up
Well, I think that yesterday's clean up along the river Thames by Wapping was very successful; the twelve volunteers (not all featured in this photo) managed to gather up a 'whopping' 8 or even 9 bags of rubbish. We noticed that there were lots of shipping tags (very harmful to the environment as wildlife could easily get stuck) along with tires which must have fallen off the sides of boats. One of my most surprising finds was a rubber tile - the sort which you often find in nurseries on the floor. Among all of that rubbish, there was of course the normal: bottles, wrappers - things that people just throw on the ground which then gut sucked into the river.

Once again, thank you to the WaSh Wombles - a local litter-picking group - for supplying us with the extra equipment and spreading the word! I think everyone really enjoyed it and I hope that you would like to come again soon!*
-Emmylou The Mudlark, Leader of Wapping's Plastic Free Community
*And by the way, if YOU would like to join in on one of my next mudlarking adventures or to help save the wildlife from plastic, sign up to my FREE monthly mailing list which is full of fun events! Here's the link: http://eepurl.com/iHvvW2

It is estimated that every year between 19 and 23 million tons of plastic ends up in aquatic ecosystems.
Plastic pollution is a major threat to ocean health, the health of marine species, food safety and quality, human health, coastal tourism, and is one of the causes of climate change.
On World Environment Day, find out what you can do to avoid the use of plastic in order to help prevent plastic pollution!
Instead of single-use plastic bags, plastic straws, single-use takeaway coffee cups, plastic toothbrushes, and single-use plastic water bottles, make sure to get:
🛍️ Reusable shopping bags
🥤 Bamboo, glass or stainless steel straws
☕ Reusable coffee cups
🦷 Bamboo toothbrushes
💧 Reusable water bottles
