Trump Prosecutor Narrowly Evades Testifying About Alleged Affair With Fani Willis
Tumblr media
Special prosecutor Nathan Wade conveniently reached a settlement in his divorce case Tuesday, sparing him in the eleventh hour from testifying about his alleged affair with Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis, who had hired the underqualified private-practice attorney—despite his little prosecutorial experience—to prosecute former President Donald Trump.
Wade temporarily settled matters with his estranged wife, Jocelyn, on the eve of his much-anticipated testimony, according to a temporary order granted by Cobb County Superior Court Judge Henry Thompson. Wednesday's hearing, where Wade was set to answer questions under oath regarding reports of his "clandestine" relations with Willis, was thereby automatically canceled.
His last-minute salvation arrived shortly before 5 p.m. in the hours leading up to Wade's questioning Wednesday morning.
"The parties [...] agree that the necessity for hearing set for January 31st, 2024, is hereby resolved by this Consent Temporary Order and, as such, there is no need for said hearing," the two-page court document decrees, noting that Wade and Jocelyn have formally agreed to the resolution's terms. However, the conditions will be kept private and may not ever be made public.
"All of the issues we pled for temporary support and attorneys fees have been resolved by this agreement," one of Jocelyn's attorneys, Andrea Hastings, told The Atlanta Journal-Constitution in a statement. "The case is not resolved on a final basis. We still have a lot of work to do to be able to resolve this case through either a final settlement or a trial," Jocelyn's counsel added.

Jocelyn's team of lawyers likewise told The Daily Beast: "While this negates the immediate need for a hearing, it does not settle the case [...] Now that our client has the financial resources to support herself while this case is pending, we are focused on the hard work of moving the case toward resolution, whether that is through settlement or trial. We are continuing to work to obtain information from Mr. Wade to ensure that the couple's assets are divided properly after more than twenty-six years of marriage."
This means Willis will also likely evade having to testify in the divorce proceedings.
Willis was subpoenaed in the divorce dispute by Jocelyn's lawyers, who argued that the DA has "unique knowledge" of Wade's finances. Judge Thompson blocked the deposition, stating he wanted to hear testimony from Wade first before deciding whether or not Willis had to testify. Willis had fought to quash the subpoena, claiming that Jocelyn "conspired with interested parties in the criminal election interference case to use the civil discovery process to annoy, embarrass and oppress" her and the Trump probe.
Explosive accusations of the pair's extramarital relationship were first leveled in a bombshell court filing by Trump co-defendant Michael Roman, whose January 8 motion to dismiss the sprawling Georgia election interference case claimed that Wade and Willis have both "personally benefitted" and "profited significantly from this prosecution at the expense of the taxpayers."
Notably, the Democrat DA's alleged lover filed for divorce from Jocelyn, his spouse of 26 years, on November 1, 2021—a day after he was appointed lead prosecutor by Willis. Wade, who's billing the county at a $250-an-hour rate for his work, amounting to more than $654,000 in income, is accused of taking Willis on lavish vacations using the money reaped from his taxpayer-funded gig. Credit card statements submitted in the divorce case document a paper trail of Wade's spending spree on plane tickets he had allegedly purchased for himself and his boss, Caribbean cruises, and high-end resorts, all apparently with Willis in tow.
Roman argues that the conflict of interest is grounds for removing the alleged couple from the case.
A Fulton County judge gave Willis until Friday to respond to the affair allegations in writing ahead of a February 15 evidentiary hearing on the misconduct claims that will determine if she should be disqualified from the prosecution. Willis and Wade have yet to publicly address the scandal, which could ultimately cause the collapse of the unraveling election fraud case against Trump.
On Friday, Georgia's GOP-led state Senate formed a special committee—comprised of six Republicans and three Democrats—to investigate Willis. The investigative panel has the statutory powers to subpoena witnesses, compel the production of evidence, and require testimony. In accordance, the committee is authorized to "enforce such subpoenas" when parties refuse to obey.
On the same day as the special committee's creation, over in the state's House of Representatives, a Republican state lawmaker officially introduced articles of impeachment against Willis. GOP state Rep. Charlice Byrd, a Trump ally, filed the impeachment papers Friday seeking to remove Willis from office for using her prosecutorial position "not to pursue justice but for political gain."

Curiosity Killed The Cat (Part 5)- Gar Logan
Tumblr media
Gif:  _Savion on Tenor
Word Count: 1.2K
Paring: Gar Logan x (f)Reader
Summary: Y/N begins to train Gar like an Amazon. Gar starts to confront his feelings regarding Y/N.
Warnings: Kiss.
Masterlist
Tagging: @ninergirl1d   reclusive-chicken-nugget
________________________________________________________________
‘Again,’ Y/N said as Gar stumbled and fell onto the ground. The young warrior certainly wasn’t over-exaggerating the tiring work training was. He was panting heavily and gasping for air as he got to his feet and rested his hands on his knees, lifting his head and staring at Y/N. Not a single hair on her was out of place, she hadn’t even broken a sweat, while Gar looked like he’d been dragged through a forest backwards.
‘Can I have a breather?’ He pled, ‘Because I feel like I’m gonna faint.’
‘Fine,’ Y/N nodded. After all, his training session would be no good if the trainee collapsed. Gar laid down on a rock, covering his eyes with his arm to shield them from the sun. He focused on his breathing, turning his heavy and wild pants into a monitored breath, cooling him down and letting his lung welcome air again.
‘How’d you do this every day for hours on end?’
‘Well, when you’ve done this every day since you can hold a sword, you build endurance.’
‘How long did that take?’
‘Few years, perhaps.’
‘Ugh!’ Gar jokingly groaned as he lifted his head to look at Y/N. Y/N was standing to the side holding the hilt of her sword, stabbing the point into the sand, smiling fondly at him. The sun behind her made her shadow grow and grow with each shift, creating a towering, robust stature on the sand. A Warrior she indeed was. Gar couldn’t help but admire her.
‘You’ll be fine,’ Y/N assured him, ‘After all, I imagine it must take an awful lot of energy to shift into a tiger.’
‘Turning into a tiger and having your ass kicked by an Amazon is not the same thing!’
‘Don’t be such a dramatic man!’ Y/N mocked.
‘Hey!’
‘Well, are you not being dramatic?’ She said gesturing to how he had draped himself over the rocks, almost putting the back of his hand on his forehead. Gar hadn’t realised how melodramatic his pose had looked, causing him to blush, feeling slightly embarrassed. Y/N grinned broadly and laughed.
‘Alright, alright,’ Gar huffed as he got to his feet, brushing imaginary sand off of himself. ‘I see your point.’
‘Don’t worry, we Amazons are aware of how melodramatic men can be,’ she said in a comforting tone, ‘shall we continue?’
‘Yeah,’ Gar nodded furiously, eager to change the subject, grabbing his sword and moving into the stance Y/N had taught him. He shifted to the left when Y/N launched herself towards him, her sword in hand and ready to attack. As her sword came to hit him in the calf, Gar managed to block her, causing Y/N to smile faintly with pride as she saw her training methods take effect. Sofia would be proud of her! They carried on sparing until Y/N managed to knock Gar’s feet out from under him and climb atop of him to keep him in place. Her strength didn’t surprise Gar, after all, she was an Amazon, although he did try to roll her onto her back, but couldn’t. He looked at her face to see the ‘cat-got-the-cream’ grin she didn’t even bother to hide.
‘I believe that brings our score to 4 for me, and 0 for you, yes?’ She teased, letting his hands go but still sitting on his middle.
‘Modest much?’
‘Sore loser much?’ She still grinned, leaning into his face. Gar couldn’t help but feel his heartbeat harder. Da-dum, da-dum, da-dum. It wasn’t from the training. Y/N looked positively ethereal in the sun, it was so tantalising. All he wanted to do was lean up and kiss her, feel her lips against his. Gar looked at her lips for a second, hoping she didn’t catch him longing. She did, grinning wider if that were even possible. This cat had got the cream and wasn’t shy of hiding it!
‘So, um,’ Gar said, voice cracking as Y/N’s eyes bore into his, twinkling mischievous. ‘Have I improved, though? Cause, well, I feel like that one lasted longer than the one before. Like, I’m certainly getting better, right? I managed to dodge you quicker, yeah, I was definitely quicker. I mean, I couldn’t get any worse, right?’
‘Gar?’
‘Yes?’
‘Shut up,’ she murmured as she closed the distance between them and kissed him softly, moving her hands onto either side of his face while Gar’s hands nervously moved to her back. He knew if he placed his hands anywhere she didn’t want, he’d lose his hands. Y/N smiled into the kiss as Gar slowly moved one hand up her back and to her cheek, stroking it softly. Such a sweet, tender man was Garfield Logan, and Y/N adored that about him. She shifted a little to allow Gar to sit up with Y/N on his lap as they didn’t break, even for air.
When they did pull apart, Gar brushed the hair from Y/N’s face, gazing affectionately into her Y/E/C eyes. He smiled at her and rested his forehead on hers, kissing the end of her nose, causing her to laugh and stroke his cheek with her thumb.
‘So…’ Gar sighed breathlessly.
‘So…’ Y/N repeated.
‘Is this part of typical Amazon training?’
‘No,’ she shook her head, ‘no, this is not. But I am willing to make an exception for you, if you want, that is?’
‘Yes,’ Gar nodded as he moved his hands up and down her sides affectionately, ‘I think this would certainly motivate me to improve.’
‘Well then,’ Y/N chuckled, ‘I am willing to do a lot to make sure my trainee improves!’
‘Maybe, if you want, we can do that again, just to make sure it has a positive effect on me? You know, research?’
‘I am more than happy to,’ Y/N nodded before kissing Gar again, letting him roll her onto her back as her hands ran through his green hair.
________________________________________________________________
Gar wandered back to his room with a gigantic grin on his face. A bird could shit in his face, and he’d still be walking on air, and this was not ignored by the Amazons he passed on his walk back. He had walked Y/N home and gave her a sweet peck on the cheek before heading to his lodgings, where Rachel sat reading some books that Amazons had given her as gifts. She looked at Gar and his gazed over eyes, clearly somewhere else, a joyous place – hence that stupid grin!
‘What’s got you so happy?’
‘I was with Y/N,’ he sighed as he fell onto his bed as Rachel moved over to join him. ‘It was incredible!’
Rachel cocked her eyebrow, and as she studied him carefully. Big stupid grin, twinkling eyes, floating on air, practically radiating pure glee. Come on, even a blind man could deduce what happened between Gar and Y/N?
‘And how was the kiss?’
‘Fireworks,’ He grinned before stopping and bolting upright to stare at Rachel, ‘how’d you know?’
‘That stupid grin, dumbass!’ Rachel said, ‘you might as well have ‘just made-out’ on your forehead!’ She watched as Gar tried to hide his smile. ‘Hey, I ain’t judging and I sure as hell ain’t gonna rat you out to Sofia for making out with her precious Y/N.’
‘I think I’m falling in love with her,’ he confessed quietly, but Rachel heard him, ‘I can’t stop thinking about her and all I wanna do is be with her.’
‘Well, you’ve got yourself in a pickle here, haven’t you?’

"It was the right thing to do." Metro detective on bringing a killer to justice 21 years later NASHVILLE, Tn. (WTVF) — Earlier this week, Metro Police arrested a man for a murder that happened more than 20 years ago. But someone else had already pled guilty shortly afterward. But a longtime Metro detective discovered many years ago that the guy who’d served time for it was the wrong man and that detective worked hard to finally bring the right man to justice. “You think you now have the right guy?” NewsChannel 5 Investigates asked Metro Cold-Case Detective Mike Roland. “Absolutely. Absolutely,” he replied. Roland was there Tuesday morning as SWAT officers arrested 51-year-old Calvin Atchison for the murder in 2000 of Velma Tharpe, a sex worker whose body was found in an alley in North Nashville, beaten and likely strangled. “You think Calvin Atchison killed Velma Tharpe?” we asked Roland. “Absolutely. I think the evidence tells the tale and yes, I do,” he answered. Roland, who has been with Metro Police for 34 years, first became convinced Atchison was the killer ten years ago when Paul Shane Garrett was already serving time for the crime. Metro Police mugshot The 28-year-old tow truck driver was arrested a year after the murder and pled guilty, even though there was no evidence or witnesses. Garrett had insisted to police he didn’t do it and now says he believed he was facing the death penalty and felt he had no choice. “And you believe that Paul Shane Garrett is innocent and had nothing to do with her murder?” we asked Roland. “I do,” he said. We now know the original detectives and prosecutors totally bungled this case. Detective Roy Dunaway, it turns out, repeatedly lied in court and both police and the DA’s Office knew the DNA found all over the victim did not match Garrett’s. And a year after Garrett went to prison, the TBI told police and the DA’s Office that it did match Calvin Atchison. Yet neither Detective Dunaway nor the DA’s Office ever followed up. Then in 2011, Roland and Pat Postiglione, another longtime Metro Cold Case detective, stumbled across the DNA discrepancy and started digging. They went through all of the court and case files, listened to the interviews with Garrett and others and realized the wrong man was behind bars. Then they visited Garrett in prison. “There was a look of relief about him. It was almost like, well. it was like the statement that he made was, ‘What took you guys so long?’ It was like there was some relief that you all now know, you all now believe me or you figured it out or whatever,” Roland recalled. They also interviewed Atchison who claimed he couldn’t remember exactly what happened. “I don’t believe he was being truthful. I believe that when you do something, you know you’ve done something. I mean he didn’t definitively say he didn’t do it and he didn’t definitively say he did,” Roland shared. Roland and Postiglione took their concerns to then-DA Torry Johnson. His office conducted its own investigation and the ADA in charge of it said in her final report that she had no confidence in Garrett’s conviction, that evidence showed he was innocent and his conviction should be thrown out. She also recommended that all homicide cases handled by Detective Dunaway be re-examined as soon as possible. Yet her boss, the DA at the time, Torry Johnson, was totally against exonerating Garrett and even fought Garrett’s initial efforts to clear his name in court. But Mike Roland never gave up. “I just have always felt that Paul Garrett deserved exoneration and that Calvin Atchison should be arrested, should be arrested for the homicide. It was just the right thing to do,” Roland explained. So last year, now with a new DA in office, Roland went to Glenn Funk and this DA’s new Conviction Review Unit took another look at the case and came to the same conclusion as the Cold Case detectives had. DA Funk is now asking the court to throw out Garrett’s conviction while Atchison is now charged with Velma Tharpe’s murder. He was arrested just shy of 21 years after she was killed. Roland says this justice for Tharpe was long overdue. Discussing Atchison’s arrest, Roland said, “He came willingly.” “He knew why you were there?” we asked. “Oh, I’m sure he did. There’s no doubt,” Roland said, adding, “I said, ‘I told you I was coming back (to Atchison),’ and he said, ‘You did.'” Mike Roland refuses to take credit for doggedly pursuing the case and he, at least publicly, refuses to criticize former Detective Roy Dunaway and former DA Torry Johnson. He said if people take anything from this, he wants them to know that both the police department as a whole and the district attorney’s office as a whole try to do the right thing and do their jobs as best they can. Meanwhile, Paul Shane Garrett recently asked the court again to exonerate him, in other words, clear his name. He has the support of both the DA’s Office and Detective Mike Roland. Wolfsbane : Noblesse Fanfic (post-ending)
(previous chapter)
Chapter 39 – The Isles of Labyrinth and Sweets
“You know, they say silence is golden regardless of country and era. But I doubt that is the best solution for you right now,” said Muzaka, seated in his throne.
Normally not even a head researcher can find himself before the werewolf lord’s throne. Not unless he happens to be a warrior as well. And not unless he has accomplished something worthy of a proper recognition. And not unless he has committed something terribly wrong.
And unfortunately, Adne was summoned for the lattermost case.
He sabotaged a part essential for bringing QuadraNet to life; at least that is what they could visually deduce.
So Muzaka decided to bring him before the throne for a talk.
Frankenstein was not far away from him, focusing his gaze upon a bald brown-haired werewolf, kneeled and slumped.
“I’m not gonna ask again, so do you mind filling me in now? Just what were you doing there? And how come the network transmission modem is utterly annihilated?”
Muzaka’s voice grew sharper, colder. Not even a toddler would be able to miss that he was basically screaming in Adne’s face that he cannot guarantee they will stick to words if silence continues.
Notwithstanding, Adne kept his mouth shut, making Muzaka sigh in edgy frustration.
And that was when Frankenstein finally spoke.
“I’ll cut right to the point, Dr. Adne. Whose side are you on?”
His manner or purpose of speech was nothing short of a definition of an inquiry. However, Adne’s face rippled with fear and disorder, as if he were demanded to slice his throat and kill himself on the spot.
“Hey, what’s that supposed to mean? You sound like...”
“Forgive me, sir. I know it sounds like I am suspecting your doctor. And yes, I AM suspecting him.”
“How can you say that when I’m right he...”
“I know. It’s not a pleasure to your ears. But think about it. I’m sure you already have an experience with betrayal from within.”
“But you don’t have any evidence that proves Adne did betra...”
“It’d be best to not to rule out any option for now.”
Muzaka’s eyes were brewing complaints at him, but he could not properly file any of them, for Frankenstein did have a point.
“...I...”
Just then a voice as feeble as a dying puppy’s last breath hit the two tall, long-haired, gorgeous men in the eardrums.
“I had to...”
“...I had to?”
“...I had to destroy it.”
Instantly Muzaka and Frankenstein curved their brows in a vicious angle in synchronization.
“...So you deliberately broke the thing?”
“N-no, sir! I mean, yes, I intended to destroy it, but... By the time I got there, I had to make sure that... I, I mean...!”
Muzaka and Frankenstein waited for Adne to coordinate his tongue and brain together, until he clenched his eyelids tightly and groveled.
“My lord. Frankenstein, sir. I know I am asking for an unspeakable, but please, I beg you. We must abort this project!”
“Are you talking about THE project?”
“Yes, sir. We must abort it. The QuadraNet must never spark with life!”
“What are you saying? What is with you today? You never miss your chance to see Frankenstein, since there is so much you can learn from him, you said. But today you left everything for me to handle. And you didn’t give us an exact reason for destroying the modem. And now you’re demanding that we abort the QuadraNet project.”
“My lord, I’m afraid I can’t give you details for now. But please, you must listen to me just this once.”
Adne pled as Frankenstein and Muzaka gaped at him with mystified eyes.
It was as if they were watching the final follower of a tyrant-turning-more-tyrannical to please be the sovereign he is supposed to be.
However, neither of them knew what has gotten into the doctor, so they could only hint questions with their eyes, until Adne said with quivering lips, like a distraught knight about to expose his one-and-only-brother-in-arms-now-a-traitor and save his lord from a planned assassination.
“If you are to continue this project...!”
Right then his throat heaved, and Adne spat out chest-rending coughs, to soon yield dark red vomit.
“Adne!!!”
Muzaka screeched, and Frankenstein lunged forward.
He tore his clothes and blocked Adne’s mouth, before he scooped him up in his arms.
“To the lab! Quick!”
Frankenstein could not fathom what was going on.
‘His physical shift occurred too fast, too extreme to be a threat or a suicidal attempt. And talk about the rate at which his blood exploded from within. If he were a human, he would’ve lost a good amount of his guts. In other words, what could set off such a reaction from a werewolf?’
Alas, he was not allowed time to think.
He had to give orders to the researchers upon reaching the lab.
And decide it would be best for him to look after Adne himself.
And diagnose that there is no telling when Adne will wake up, after laying him in the ward.
Frankenstein, along with Muzaka, could only replay in his head what he had witnessed.
‘Is it just me, or are things taking a weird turn ever since we started the QuadraNet project?’
Frankenstein lamented inaudibly, tracing his forehead with his fingers while no one was watching.
Union invasion on wolfkind.
The mysterious behavior of the Man in the Iron Mask on the werewolf realm.
Postponement of QuadraNet’s activation, for a reason nobody knows yet.
And now Adne’s mysterious state.
Frankenstein felt as if he were trapped in the isle of labyrinth, running circles in a trail without an exit.
*****
Meanwhile...
Pow!!!
Bam!!!
A man resembling a toad injected with tons of steroids was flung into the air, his feet completely removed from the ground.
His body arched in the exact same posture when he was punched in the abdomen, he thoroughly shattered the wall on the other side.
“I dare you to say that again.”
Growled the one who threw him in the air with a single blow, her heels clicking towards him.
In the meantime, he was rolling his eyes as if he had no idea what he ever did wrong.
Nevertheless, he could clearly see that the rest of his day would be hell if he does not appear remorseful, so Kornel lowered his head in a reply.
“I... I found Yuigi of Cerberus hidden among civilians by chance, so... I decided to take her with me, and...”
“Nobody ever asked you to do that! I never told you to do that! I told you to simply stand guard on the area!”
“But it was an opportunity no one among us would want to mi...!”
“A human head is more than just a concoction of calcium, proteins, and nucleic acid. I told you to avoid skirmish in that country! We should be most wary of that place, not Lukedonia, not the werewolves! That’s where the ones who killed Crombel are stationed! I told you a number of times that you should really watch yourself in Korea!”
Kornel zipped his lips and merely stared at her.
“And since Yuigi was living in hiding among civilians, I’m sure you had to raise more than a clash at such time and place. I sent you there to monitor how the honey that will fill our jar ripens, but instead you ended up setting fire on the hive that should provide us with the honey.”
Helga glared at him, as if she wished to punch him again.
‘My so-called accomplice suddenly lost contact, which bothers me enough, and then this ally of mine just had to...!’
Helga raised her voice again, feeling how her annoyance was throwing a fit inside her.
“You should be grateful that we are in deadly need of manpower right now. Otherwise I would have officially terminated you instead of pummeling you into a wall!”
Kornel strained his forehead and corners of lips, feeling gravely offended by her words.
Helga did not even look at him as she spoke again.
“So what do you have?”
“Uh... Say that again?”
“I’m starting to think perhaps your ears are there just because you are short of facial skin. You said you fought Yuigi yourself. So, what do you have to tell me?”
“Uh...”
“And don’t get me wrong. I’m not forgiving you. Since you upset a hive, we need to figure out everything about its occupants – their species, numbers, and the degree of irritation. So, what do you have?”
Helga was now surprisingly calm, to Kornel’s mild disturbance. Yet he did not fail her in giving everything he had seen and heard ever since he first confronted Yuigi, until Takio made him go away.
Helga shooed him away at the end of the briefing, and she tapped her chin with her fingers in interest.
‘So Yuigi’s grown weaker. And it’s apparently because of this choker she is wearing. At least there’s no doubt they don’t trust her. And I wouldn’t expect her to be on good terms with them.’
Helga was already beginning to brainstorm ideas to bring Yuigi back to them.
She did not care at all about the mechanism of the choker Yuigi was chained to, since power-controlling apparatus is common in Union as well.
She already knew that this human named Frankenstein was a researcher gifted enough to come up with a rein of his own.
She also knew that the modified humans under his leadership – Takio and Tao, once classified as DA-5, and M-21, the one Crombel used to be keenly fascinated with – are now strong enough to fare against the elders of the Union.
It was all thanks to the intelligence from her accomplice.
And then she was reminded of the fact her connection to him was abruptly lost.
‘Did he decide to turn his back? Not that I didn’t think of such scenario.’
Helga remembered the day when she first met him.
She was slightly caught off guard at how a mere researcher, not at all familiar or affiliated with warfare, dared to make a deal with her.
She recalled the condition from her accomplice and grinned; it was a grin devoid of entertainment or marvel, full of sneer and disdain.
Right then, an alarm drew her attention. It was not the one she was waiting for, but it was a sound worthy of her time – a sound signaling her new VIP’s incoming transmission.
And the said VIP very successfully flipped the table of mood for her.
“You’ve done well, sir. Very well. I’ll leave that part to you.”
Helga was now outwardly beaming as she finished the transmission.
“I’d thought I had merely found bread crumbles to the house of sweets when I learned Yuigi is alive. But looks like the crumbles were actually a ticket for the cruise to the isle of sweets, tasting like vengeance and retaliation. Now let’s get ready to climb aboard, shall we?”
She relocated herself to the lab and found the man she was looking for, who was seemingly in need of a task or two.
“Sol, we have a work to do.”
(next chapter)
I just realized that for chapters featuring Helga, her lines tend to turn more eloquent than other characters’ lines. Such metaphorically stylized manner of speech would be more appropriate for Rai or Lascrea, but unfortunately neither of them are talkers. And most importantly, they are hardly given lines in my fic. :’( Although I’m the one who didn’t allocate much spotlight for them, I wish to see them soon in future chapters lol

Susan
“hello I would like to address the court with a message to both the educator and  school system around the state Wisconsin I thought what Mr. Long would just go to school and come up for sentencing I  would given him 4 years in Prison and whatever in  probation but to play on the basketball team that lost in the state Finals is an embarrassment to our justice system and we in the  Milwaukee public school should lead by example and not  to be above the law so I am asking you to raise the sentence from 4 years to 12 years and also I am  asking that when Mr. Long gets out of prison he will not be getting any education at all I am asking you to uphold the law . thank you “
Freddie
“BITCH!”
Judge
“Remove Coach Riley from the building “
Judge watches
Judge
“before this court hearing I understand that we reach a plea deal with both party “
Peter
“yes”
Judge
“however I know what the message is that the victim wanted to address to the court and that is great that she did that so therefore I am sentencing you deontay long to 6 and half  years in prison , you are also order to pay to 100,000 to the family and you will be on a 20 year prohibition , and I have one more thing to add and  that is to the WIAA and MPS  I will see you in my chambers at 9 am tomorrow with the Milwaukee County DA if you fail to show up you will be arrested no expectation , court is adjourn “
Ryan looks with char

“a peace of mind see you tomorrow “
Char
“have a good night “
We see the next day  in Judges Chambers
Ryan
“I have a federal Law Suit filed against Milwaukee Washintgon , Milwaukee Public School , and the WIAA”
Judge Johnson
“hold off on that , I cannot sign your arrested warrant for being idiots but what I can do is that I can file with a federal judge in Madison that your season for this year and last year will be vacated and you Dave Anderson better change the law and you Coach Rilley are Fined 3,000 for Misconduct in  the court and we don’t take checks “
Judge leaves before
Judge
“think about the image that you put on the game of high School basketball in the State Wisconsin it’s Like Roy Moore Running for the senate “
Court is now over
The next day federal court chamber judge Johnson
Judge Johnson
“I am reviewing the case against the WIAA and MPS filed by the District Attonery of Milwaukee County and I will order a federal judge to vacated all wins from this year and last year and you Dave Anderson have until Nov. 2018 to come up with guideline for that will uphold a standard for all or your going to court , and to the Milwaukee Public schools system same thing applies
Peter and Bethany gather with the victim and her family after the court hearing
Peter then looks at Deb and dave
Dave
“I hope your fucking happy “
Peter
“I will keep digging and going to ever college coach and raising this awareness “
Coach Rilley
“you’re a disgrace to the public “
Ryan
“I am drafting up an Arrest Warrant for Aiding and betting in the first degree “
He walks out
 Freddie looks in shocked
Frieddie
“I offer you a chance for greatness   Mr. Stone take It, Join the Bad boys   you will be sorry both you and one day your Heirs!”

“plea deal”
Joan (sign)
“you can always tell me your problems I  am old but I am still wise  don’t let this case effect you “
Ray (sign)
“thank you “
End of 1.4
In the case all the players are written to the nature in which they warned however this is NOT ABOUT the original case in which Denotay Long is in QUESTION AS he already plead guilty and GOT A one year prison sentence HOWEVER THE message that I am trying to get at is that I am going after both Milwaukee Public School’s and the WIAA AND there willing to let a felon play in the State tourney and showing that this type of message in my view they are guilty of teaching all us the wrong message

The Dry War
“5% Gross tonnage reserved for Alcohol”
Tumblr media
Colonel Jim Faust eyed his Slaughterhouse Troopers with the hard flat stare, meeting each of their eyes long enough to impress upon them that his allocation of tonnage on the dropships was not up to debate. The debates had been long, painful, and thirsty in and of themselves, and there was no way there was time to finish loading for the boost to join the Battleship Billy Pilgrim in orbit, and argue about past mistakes.
One of the new officers, Lt Chang looked like he was about to object when Major Fred Diamond laid a rough hand on his shoulder and said “Give it a rest kid, you weren’t there for the Dry War. You have no freaking idea how badly we need that rule”
Captain Igor Takeda was turning towards them when he heard the words “Dry War”. He spat in rejection and swore “Yob tvoyu mat!”
“Major, don’t bring that up. I haven’t got enough vodka to drown those memories without either unpacking war rations, or sending for more. Why you bring up that nightmare? Is the beardless cadet dry enough behind the ears for horror stories, or will it scar his little innocent mind beyond all redemption, in which case he will need vodka too.” Takeda reluctantly reached into his drop bag and pulled out a large clear bottle of Satinovaya Kraska (Satan’s Paint Thinner), a popular Illyrian export vodka.
Tumblr media
Lt Chang was not willing to accept old war story bullshit and stuck to his objection. “I just think allowing 5% of our stores volume for alcohol is excessive, wasteful, and encourages drunkenness. We are supposed to be focused on fighting the war, not celebrating the victory we would be too drunk to win”
Major Diamond pulled the lad over to the foot of a waiting Apatotron and gestured for Igor to crack the bottle. It was not a story to tell sober, he still got the cold shakes remembering that campaign.
“It all started with Mark De Luna. He got himself arrested with the daughter and wife of the governor of…..damned if I can remember what world that was. He pled excessive alcohol intake when claiming he had no idea how the three of them ended up in a hot tub filled with whip cream. I personally think he was lying, or at least disgracefully not showing better command ability to bullshit under pressure like an officer of his rank should do naturally. As a result, the orders came down. Next clan war was dry. No private alcohol, and regimental stores to be brought down from orbit only after last battle ended.”
Lt Chiang looked at the thousand yard stares of the two officers, glumly taking long pulls on the vodka bottle they passed back and forth.
“That is not totally dry, there would be alcohol available at the afterparty. How horrible could that be?”
Chiang sounded less than sure of himself, and the giggling of the senior officers, as if he had said something particularly niave or stupid.
Major Diamond turned to Captain Takeda and handed over the bottle, asking him,
“Ah Igor, were we ever than young and innocent?”
Igor took a long swallow, and shook his head.
“No Tovarich, you were born evil, and I cunning, but we both missed that one coming. No one was ready for running dry. Look at my Lt rule book baby-boy. The officers give the orders, and the mecha jocks do the fighting, and the wrench monkeys put it back together, the med techs patch it up, yeah? You get that. War is a pressure cooker, it picks at you, eats at you, claws at you. Never a rest, never a break, no end to it. Always something else to do, someone else to face. You have no choice but to gut it out. Swallow the crap as it comes, and those warriors, those wrench monkeys, those med techs, well it turns out they are human. Well, close enough.”
Chiang looked confused.
Diamond took the bottle back and had a pull. “Everyone needs a little something to get you through the night. We do so many Hatorades that we come back about ready to kill anyone we see, alcohol backs us off, takes the edge off, lets us be human again. The techs, they run on stims, working two watches in three, sometimes three watches in three, when the time comes to take a break they are wired tighter than a Betrus Processor. They need a little something to knock the edge off lone enough to get to sleep. The Med techs work when we all stop, patching up the living, hacking off the limbs they can’t save, bagging the dead and firing them in storage because that is all the time we have for them while the war is on. They do stims to keep going long after everyone is stopped, and some of them don’t want to know what is waiting for them if they dream, so they need a little something to shut right off. We….we told them nothing was going to be there. So everybody panicked a little bit. No one dared to talk, so everyone decided that they alone were going to save us all. We have, how you say, creative troops? Pride ourselves on initiative, cunning, and above all else, audacity. Looking back on it, it couldn’t have ended any other way.
Unknown Pilot “Look only the front rank ever goes through all their ammunition, if anyone gets past them, it is either polish them off with a few last rounds, or try to get a shot off before they slaughter us. We just take some of the missile reloads, and store a few bottles underneath. The first few rounds will be missiles, and then, well, the good stuff, besides, there will be plenty of ammo in main stores”
Unknown tech “Look, only the front rank ever goes through all their ammunition, so the bulk of the nanites just sit in the tanks anyway. We have coolant systems here anyway, we just leave them one tank hooked up, the second tank in reserve, and the other two ice nanite tanks we will replace with beer kegs. No one will know, besides, there will be lots of ammo in main stores”
Unknown med tech “I tell you, they will be killing each other within the first day, we will lose a third of them as psych casualties after that. How are we supposed to cope with all that, on top of the regular hell we go through just for their stupid games. You know they are paranoid, we never use a tenth of the ammunition we bring down. They have so much onboard their mecha already, we will just leave them a little for their guns, and then use the rest for the stores they won’t admit they need”
Lt Chiang began to see where this was going, a look of horror and humour fought for control of his face.
“You don’t mean dry as in no alcohol, when you say dry war you mean…..” He trailed off, the idea too stupid to finish.
Igor finished it for him.
“Da, tovarich. We mean the war we ran dry. My Boreas blasting an AFF Regis with a Leviathan, he was slowed enough I figured to get an easy kill. I took my time, lined up the shot, and hosed him down with about fifty liters of ice cold beer. Pretty funny, right up until his Rage Pulsar punched my ticket, and I was picking bits of cockpit glass out of me two fights later.”
Major Diamond took a long pull of the vodka, and sighed.
“Oh kid, you honestly have never seen anything like it. My Tandem Bomb Missile rack opened up, a really sweet hit, right across those damned grinning silver skulls of those AFF bastards. It was a sweet hit, wide fork. Missiles rained down across the whole of their line, I felt it double, then triple the shot, rockets screaming from my tubes like one of those old black and white movies about Stalingrad. Then it went screwy. At first, they were missiles, raining down, blasting armour piercing all over the AFF line. Then….well I ran out of missiles. Scotch, vodka, gin. I launched the better part of a years worth of our Non Commissioned Officers mess downrange to drench the AFF. I was in a missile boat, that held not a single live missile. I burned blue when they shot me. They laughed, and called me fondue. One of them even roasted something over my mecha as it burned. When we went to rearm from the main supplies, we discovered we went to war ready to tend bar, and not much else. Each of our problem children independently decided to save everyone, assuming no one else did. We couldn’t have held off a Girl Scout troop”
Lt Chiang reached for the bottle, and took a long pull. Letting Satinovaya Kraska (Satan’s Paint Thinner) clear the images from his mind. “Yes, it is far best to put 5% of our consumables stores to alcohol. We don’t want to risk running dry like that again”
Such is war in Mecha Galaxy

Transcript for Larry Nassar defends himself in court: Part 5
I felt amazing making my statement. I never felt more confident. Completely relieved and empowered. Empowered. Empowered. Mr. Nassar, I am going to ask that you be seated in the witness stand for the convenience of the witnesses. Reporter: There is no way out for Larry Nassar. Sentenced to 60 years in a separate child pornography case, he’s now back in court for sendencing after pleading guilty to criminal sexual conduct. But today, women from around the country begin to descend on this Michigan courtroom for a chance to be heard. Little girls don’t stay little forever. They grow into strong women that return to destroy your world. Reporter: One after another, they step up and speak up. I will educate my children about monsters like you and pray to god they will never experience pain like this. I feel like the life has bitterly been sucked out of me. Reporter: In a letter, Nassar complains to the court that listening to the victim impact statements is too hard. Tough luck, says the judge. Spending four or five days listening to them is significantly minor, considering the hours of pleasure you had at their expense. And ruining their lives. She could have said, “Let’s look at the people who were victims in the charges that he pled guilty to. And let them speak and maybe let their family member speak.” But instead, she said, anybody who was a victim of his conduct by him, you can speak. You can share your truth. Take your time. When you are ready — Reporter: And the compassionate judge allows them to speak for as long as they want. You are a role model. You are a hero. She has been our therapist. When we have needed someone the most — She is your therapist? Yes. I don’t know if we would have asked for a better judge. Amazing. Do you know in the military, her nickname was bar kau da walk Lena? Just listening for her being there, I know that she has 100% what’s best for us. Reporter: Originally scheduled for four days, the trial continues for seven. By the end, 156 women came forward. How dare you? How can you sexually assault a child in front of their mother? Reporter: As the victims’ statements are televised, many victims across the country are cat watching. Among them is akemi look. I remember thinking, how are these women doing this? She is one of Nassar’s victims. But the 31-year old has chosen to close that chapter of her life. When I wrote my victim impact statement and submitted I said, “This is it.” I don’t ever want to revisit this again in my life. I don’t want people to associate my name with being a child sexual abuse victim. Reporter: But the more she watches — You’ve pissed off the wrong army of women. Reporter: The more she realizes she just join the fight. She races to the airport battling traffic and her emotions. It is a 1,700-mile struggle that begins to go south at the gate with a panic attack. This police woman came over and said, are you okay? Can I help you? And I told her that I don’t think I can get on this flight right now. I really don’t, but I know that I have to. Reporter: And so she does, on the last flight out of town. As luck would have it, additional support services are provided by a jack Russell terrier named Maggie. An emotional support dog is sitting in the second row with a couple who was flying, and I said, can I sit down next to you? And they said, of course, you can. Reporter: Akemi’s journey gets her to Michigan just in time for sentencing day. As for Rachael denhollender, her journey has come full circle. She is the last victim to take Nassar to task. And was the first to file a police report and speak out against him. They call her the general of this army. You have fashioned for yourself a prison that is far far worse than any I could ever put you in. And I pity you for that. Reporter: He offers up a boilerplate apology that the women say moved no one. There are no words to describe the depth and breadth of how sorry I am for what has occurred. Reporter: But another side of him emerges when the judge reads more from Nassar’s first letter of complaint to the court. Larry Nassar feels he too is a victim. The media convinced them that everything I did was wrong and bad. They feel I broke their trust. Hell hath no fury like a woman scorned. Reporter: There’s an audible gasp in the courtroom and a similar reaction when I talk to the women. Hell hath no fury like a woman scorned. Disgusting. It sounds like he still doesn’t get it. I don’t feel like he does. Reporter: That set the stage for the judge’s stinging response. I wouldn’t send my dogs to you, sir. I can’t even guess how many vulnerable children and families you actually assaulted. Reporter: Judge Rosemarie Aquilina, who claims not to be good with math, did an excellent job throwing around some pretty big numbers to make sure Nassar never hurts anyone ever again. I’m giving you 175 years which is 2,100 months. I’ve just signed your death warrant. Sir, you do not deserve to walk outside of prison ever again. Reporter: The judge’s sentence was met with applause. And moments after the judge has her say, akemi has hers inspired by the women around her. They gave me courage. They gave me hope that there can be change. And we need change. This needs to end here.

LA County Probation Officer Accused of Sexually Abusing Teenage Girls in his Care is Released after Serving Less than a Month of a 1 Year Sentence
Doesn't anyone read the case to understand, he should have served more time!!!
Less than a month ago, former Los Angeles County deputy probation officer, Oscar David Calderon Jr., 33, pleaded guilty to two felony counts of assault under the color of authority, after being accused of “inappropriately touching” girls at one of the county’s juvenile probation camps.
When he was arrested in January of this year, Calderon was originally charged with two counts of lewd and lascivious acts upon a child, and four counts of assault by a peace officer. Prosecutors stated that the victims ranged in age from 15 to 18 and that the abusive events began in 2014.
According to the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office, Calderon worked as a deputy probation officer for approximately nine years, and worked at Camp Scudder, an all-girls juvenile facility located in Santa Clarita, since 2014, which was where he reportedly made sexual overtures to some of the teenage girls at the camp, and assaulted two of them.
As a condition of his plea deal, however, Calderon was able to avoid admitting to the charges of lewd and lascivious acts with a child, and the assaults dropped down to two girls, instead of four. The original charges could have resulted in a five year prison sentence for Calderon, according to the DA’s spokesperson. In addition, he would have been forced to register as a sex offender.
Instead, on September 20. Calderon was sentenced to a year in LA County jail.
On November 14, less a month later, Calderon was released from jail and allowed to return home.
“My client is ready to start a new life and move past his mistake,” said Ambrosio Rodriguez, Mr. Calderon’s attorney.
An “escalating pattern of inappropriate attention”
The criminal charges are not the end of the matter. As WLA reported earlier, one of the young assault victims from Camp Scudder filed a civil lawsuit in federal court on July 14, 2017, alleging not just the abuse, but also that a supervisor, and a therapist, knew about Calderon’s behavior, and did nothing to intervene. The suit also alleges that multiple other co-workers observed at least some of the officer’s increasingly inappropriate actions, which should have been perceived as red flags.
According to an amended complaint filed on September 6, 2017, by the victim’s attorneys, Erin Darling and Justin E. Sterling, during the time their client was in Camp Scudder she was under the direct supervision of then-Officer Calderon, who allegedly used his power to threaten her into compliance.
“On at least two occasions,” the attorney s wrote, “Officer Calderon told Plaintiff that if she refused to obey him, ‘I will fuck up your court reports.‘”
Calderon was reportedly also in charge of where the victim worked in the camp, what personal items could be sent to her by her family, and how many phone calls she could make to family members, and other similar areas of oversight of the victim’s time at camp.
The complaint describes an escalating pattern of inappropriate attention from Calderon toward the victim, which eventually, according to the lawsuit, became a weekly pattern of sexual assault.
Calderon is described by the Los Angeles Sheriff’s Department’s inmate database as being 6’1″ in height, weighing 240 lbs, as compared to the victim, who reportedly is 5’2″ and weighs 120 lbs.
The escalating attention, which reportedly embarrassed and worried the victim, graduated to odder forms of behavior, such as rousting the young woman out of her bed after lights out to sit with him in the darkened cafeteria. Soon the incidents allegedly intensified to incidents of inappropriate touching, kissing, and in one alleged incident, choking.
Finally, from April 2015 through June 2015, according to the harrowing narrative laid out in the complaint, Officer Calderon sexually assaulted the victim, who was by then, 18, once a week, “on approximately ten occasions.”
The alleged acts described included sexual fondling, groping, and digital penetration, among other assaultive actions, which occurred during her weekly work shift at the camp’s snack shop, where the officer could reportedly grab her out of sight of others.
“Depression of the past, anxiety of the future”
On the day of Calderon’s sentencing, the victim who signed the lawsuit read a statement in which she described what she had experienced.
“I spent almost a year in a locked-down facility, with a disgusting, horny, grown man that’s supposedly my probation officer. I’ve never been blackmailed, let alone sexually abused, until I entered that camp,” she wrote in the statement. “It’s been two years, and I still feel it. I feel the depression of the past, and the anxiety of the future. I can still smell his disgusting breath when he kissed me.”
After Calderon’s release from jail, Justin E. Sterling, one of the victim’s two attorneys, described how dismayed he was at the fraction of his sentence that Oscar Calderon has served.
“It’s unfortunate,” Stering said. “When someone is sentenced to a year, and he does less than a month. And he was also able to skirt sex offender charges, because of his plea deal. It’s very disappointing.” This is especially true, said Sterling, “when you understand both what he was accused of and what he pled to.”
Juvenile advocates we asked about Calderon’s release expressed similar dismay.
“A young girl was horrifically abused while in custody and will likely experience a ‘life sentence’ of traumatic memories,” said Jacqueline Caster, president and founder of the Everychild Foundation. “Yet the officer who victimized her, suffered virtually no consequences and is back on the street without rehabilitation. This is not only an insult to her and the other young victim, and a minimization of the abuse they experienced, it also communicates an utter lack of concern for other potential victims.”
(Caster is also a member of the LA County Probation Commission, but spoke to WLA personally, as a youth advocate.)
The matter of early release
When asked about how Calderon’s release was calculated, the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department, which oversees the county’s jail system, sent WitnessLA the following explanation.
Inmate Oscar Calderon was released according to our early release criteria due to overcrowding. He appeared at Clara Shortridge Foltz Justice Center and was sentenced to 364, with 5 days custody credits for the charge of 149 P.C. (Assault by a Peace Officer). On November 13, 2017, it was determined that Inmate Calderon had served 11.40% of his sentenced time. The charge of 149 P.C. does not fall under the more serious traditional sentence charges also known as M-7 criteria, therefore he was required to serve a minimum of 10% of his sentence.
The LASD noted that, “as the result of a court decision commonly referred to as the Rutherford Decision, LASD is required to manage the crowding levels within the jail,” which is done using a number of strategies. Early release is one of them.
Under the terms of his plea agreement, Calderon was also placed on formal probation for five years, and ordered to stay away from “all victims” during those five years.

Venditto, seven others indicted for public corruption
John Venditto
The federal conviction of a longtime power player in the Town of Oyster Bay opened up a window into the town’s operations.
But the way District Attorney Madeline Singas described it, the more apt metaphor was lifting a rock and seeing what was beneath.
Though he died in prison on June 4, former Commissioner of Planning Frederick Ippolito set in motion an investigation that threatens to put former Oyster Bay town officials behind bars.
Among these are former longtime supervisor John Venditto, already facing federal corruption charges. He resigned from office in early January.
On June 28, following the findings of a grand jury, Singas charged eight individuals (including Ippolito) with public corruption in three separate indictments. All had ties to the Republican machine that has dominated town politics for decades. Sources indicated that charges against Ippolito would be dropped upon receipt of a death certificate.
All appeared before Supreme Court Justice Charles Wood in Nassau County Court and pled not guilty. They will be back in court in September.
According to Singas, “the indictments allege a shocking and interrelated web of political corruption at the highest levels of Town of Oyster Bay government. These actions victimized the taxpayers and betrayed the public trust.”
The conviction of Ippolito last January 2016 on federal tax evasion charges—he was alleged to have received more that $2 million in illegal fees from Carlo Lizza & Sons Paving, Inc, where he had been a consultant and which did extensive business with the town—set in motion the DA’s 14-month investigation.
“The investigation turned up evidence of bribery, money laundering, a corrupt multimillion dollar property deal, rampant nepotism and illegal favors,” according to Singas, who noted that though Ippolito was removed from office, he still exercised influence over the operations of town government.

Frank Antetomaso
Salvatore Cecere
Marisa Lizza
Elia “Aly” Lizza
Richard Porcelli
Frank Nocerino
This led to the first indictment, in which Venditto, 68, of Massapequa, faces felony charges of corrupt use of position or authority. If convicted, Venditto faces up to 1⅓ to four years in prison.
Also indicted was Richard Porcelli, 70, of Ronkonkoma, and a leader of the North Massapequa Republican Club. The top charge against him was two counts of official misconduct (a misdemeanor). If convicted, he faces up to a year in prison. Singas noted that though Porcelli held no official position, “he directed town affairs with such frequency that town employees thought he worked there, and others had been told to take direction from him as though it came from Venditto himself.”
Former Parks Commissioner Frank Nocerino, 65, of Massapequa, was charged with official misconduct (a misdemeanor). He faces up to a year in prison.
According to the narrative provided by Singas, Venditto and Porcelli— at Ippolito’s behest—directed Nocerino to hire an individual to work in the Parks Department at a time when the town wasn’t hiring and was even contemplating layoffs. The new hire, who according to Singas was the son of Ippolito’s romantic interest, received double the salary of those who held similar positions in the department. When the relationship soured, Singas alleges, Ippolito ordered that the individual be fired, and to divert attention, two others from the department were fired at the same time.
The second indictment involved former Commissioner of Public Works Frank Antetomaso, 77, of Massapequa and his nephew, current town Highway Maintenance Supervisor Salvatore Cecere, 50, of West Sayville. Both were charged with one count each of official misconduct and theft of services (misdemeanors). They face up to one year in prison. In this situation, according to Singas, Antetomaso called Cecere and had him remove a tree and fix a sidewalk at a friend’s house in North Massapequa. This happened at a time when residents were being asked to pay for these repairs.
Antetomaso was also charged in a separate indictment with fifth degree conspiracy (a misdemeanor) in connection with what Singas described as an elaborate real estate development scheme involving Carlo Lizza & Sons Paving. In this indictment, Venditto also faces an additional two counts of defrauding the government (a felony).
According to Singas, Elia “Aly” Lizza, 69, and his wife, Marisa Lizza, 61, of Oyster Bay Cove, paid $1.6 million to Ippolito so that he could use his official position to influence the development of a $150 million senior housing complex, Cantiague Commons on Lizza-owned property on West John Street in Hicksville. This led to Ippolito’s federal indictment. Singas claimed Lizza was to receive anticipated payments in excess of $20 million dollars “from the developer of Cantiague Commons while Ippolito was simultaneously controlling the oversight of the developer’s rezoning application and site plan approval.”
The Lizzas face up to 15 years in prison for various felonies.
Ippolito, Singas charged, influenced the town board to make a change in the zoning law so that the project could go forward. In addition, he negotiated the sale of 50 Engel St. to the town. Lizza & Sons Paving, Inc. operated an asphalt plant there and this property was necessary to complete the proposed project. Though it was offered for free, Venditto agreed that the town would purchase the property for $2.5 million and the sale went through via what Singas called questionable means.
To date, “the property has not been developed or used by the town,” Singas noted. Singas said that the Lizzas, after Ippolito’s indictment, communicated with him through Antetomaso, a principal at Sidney Bowne & Son engineering firm, which was working on the Cantiague Commons project and has had extensive contracts with the town. In her concluding remarks, Singas said that the investigation “found unscrupulous public officials, who betrayed their obligations to the people they serve.”
She added, “It is my hope that this prosecution will send a message to government officials in Nassau County, and Nassau County voters, that we must do better.”
Pervasive Betrayal Of The Public Trust: Venditto, seven others indicted for public corruption Venditto, seven others indicted for public corruption The federal conviction of a longtime power player in the Town of Oyster Bay opened up a window into the town’s operations.

Odebrecht: The company that created the world's biggest bribery ring
by Patrick Gillespie and Marilia Brocchetto   @CNNMoney April 5, 2017: 10:49 AM ET
It’s the largest global corruption scandal in modern history.
Its web of bribes spread over four continents, implicated presidents and involved 12 countries. It also prompted the biggest fine ever levied by the U.S. Justice Department — $3.5 billion.
‘; for (i = 0; i 4) afterParagraphFour = true; currentParagraph = storytext.childNodes[i]; heights += currentParagraph.clientHeight; if (heights >= limit && insertAfterThisParagraphIndex === -1) insertAfterThisParagraphIndex = SMARTASSET.setDivIndex(i); console.log(“insert after paragraph number ” + i); console.log(“HEIGHTS = ” + heights); console.log(“LIMIT = ” + limit); } /* div with id=”ie_column” */ else if (storytext.childNodes[i].nodeName.toLowerCase() === ‘div’ && storytext.childNodes[i].id !== “undefined” && storytext.childNodes[i].id ===”ie_column”) heights = 0; limit = 80; insertAfterThisParagraphIndex = -1 /* embeds from twitter, facebook, youtube */ else if (storytext.childNodes[i].nodeName.toLowerCase() === ‘div’ && storytext.childNodes[i].classList.contains(’embed’)) heights = 0; limit = 80; insertAfterThisParagraphIndex = -1 /* cnn video player */ else if (storytext.childNodes[i].nodeName.toLowerCase() === ‘div’ && storytext.childNodes[i].classList.contains(‘cnnplayer’)) heights = 0; limit = 80; insertAfterThisParagraphIndex = -1 /* images */ else if (storytext.childNodes[i].nodeName.toLowerCase() === ‘img’) heights = 0; limit = 80; /* images stored in figure tags */ else if (storytext.childNodes[i].nodeName.toLowerCase() === ‘figure’) heights = 0; limit = 80; } if (heights >= 875 && afterParagraphFour) storytext.childNodes[insertAfterThisParagraphIndex].insertAdjacentHTML(‘afterend’, smartAssetDiv); smartasset = document.getElementById(‘smartasset-article’); smartasset.style.float = ‘left’; // allows module to have text float to right smartasset.style.marginRight =’20px’; smartasset.style.marginBottom =’25px’; }

At the center of this scandal is a company that few in the United States recognize: Odebrecht.
Based in Brazil, Odebrecht is Latin America’s largest construction firm. It doled out nearly $800 million in bribes to individuals between 2001 and 2016. Some bribes filtered through the United States.
Investigators are determining whether the bribes extended to construction contracts for the 2016 Rio Summer Olympics and 2014 FIFA World Cup.
Some former Latin American presidents face potential jail time for allegedly being involved in the bribes and one has gone missing.

This month, a U.S. judge will rule whether Odebrecht must pay the record-setting fine announced in December. The fine could go as high as $4.5 billion.
Odebrecht, which pled guilty, says it can’t pay either amount.
Most of its bribes were paid to get contracts from governments to build roads, bridges, dams and highways.
Odebrecht officials shipped cash across the globe — from one shell bank account to the next — en route to politicians’ pockets in a dozen countries, including Mexico, Venezuela, Colombia, Argentina, Peru and Mozambique.
Bribes sometimes went through as many as four shell bank accounts before arriving at the final destination, according to the firm’s plea agreement with U.S. officials.
The fine — coordinated by the U.S., Brazil and Switzerland — only marks the start of Odebrecht’s financial pain. Several Latin American countries are opening up their own cases and could issue more fines.

“This case is the most important and momentous investigation into corruption crimes in the history of the region,” Sergio Rodriguez, Argentina’s federal prosecutor investigating Odebrecht, told CNNMoney.
The first signs of bribery popped up three years ago in a Brazilian investigation dubbed “Operation Car Wash” which led to the arrest of an executive at Petrobras, Brazil’s government-run oil company. Petrobras also played a leading role in the bribery ring.
The corruption probe across Petrobras and Odebrecht has imprisoned Brazil’s most prominent politicians and business owners. The scandal is a central reason why Brazil is in its worst recession in history.
The Petrobras executive later named names in a plea agreement. Investigators later found that Odebrecht replicated its bribery model across most of Latin America and Africa.

The case continues to reverberate globally.
In March, Colombian president Juan Manuel Santos admitted his re-election campaign in 2014 accepted a donation from Odebrecht. Santos said he had no knowledge of its origin and called for an investigation. Odebrecht received public works contracts from the Colombian government.
In February, police in Peru raided the home of former president Alejandro Toledo for allegedly accepting a Odebrecht bribe. Toledo denied the charges via Twitter but has gone missing, is thought to be in the U.S., and could face jail time.
Related: Brazil’s ex-president hit with corruption charges
Brazil’s former president, Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva, faces potential prison time for allegedly accepting Odebrecht’s paying for his family’s vacation home.
His successor, former Brazilian president Dilma Rousseff, was impeached last year for separate charges, though the massive corruption scandal loomed over her ousting.
Last week, Brazil’s former House Speaker, Eduardo Cunha, got 15 years in prison for, among three charges, money laundering bribes involving Petrobras, Odebrecht and politicians.
Brazil’s current president, Michel Temer, has lost five of his cabinet officials since taking office in May. Many of them resigned after bribery allegations involving Odebrecht surfaced.
The company’s former chief executive, Marcelo Odebrecht, was sentenced to 19 years in prison a year ago.
In Argentina, Rodriguez, the federal prosecutor, is starting to investigate $35 million in Odebrecht bribes to middle men that allegedly gave the money to Argentine government leaders. He says he doesn’t know how many people are involved or how long the case will take.
More charges are likely in the pipeline across Latin America.
Related: Brazil’s spoiled meat scandal widens
To get shorter prison terms, Odebrecht officials struck plea deals with investigators, naming names and giving details about the breadth of the scheme during closed door testimonies.
Much of their testimonies is still sealed up but leaks have revealed hints at what’s to come.
The music could stop for many more government leaders across the continent once the full testimony is public later this year.
“The tentacles potentially go sea deep in the Brazilian government,” says Kathleen Hamann, a lawyer at the firm Pierce Atwood and former U.S. Justice Department official who specializes in foreign corrupt practices in Latin America. “The domestic impact is potentially very grave.”
No leader appears to be immune from the investigation in Latin America, which has long had a high tolerance for corruption.
Related: Brazil’s Olympic legacy? An abandoned Maracana stadium
The difference this time around is two things: 1) the unprecedented size and scope of the case and 2) a key law passed in a few Latin American nations called “corporate liability.”
Corporate liability means it’s easier for investigators to find a company guilty instead of its individual employees. That increases a firm’s willingness to cooperate and play by the rules because the company’s shareholders want to make sure they don’t lose their money.
Still, prosecutors face a tricky problem: They could risk jobs for thousands of workers if Odebrecht goes into bankruptcy due to a flood of fines, experts say.
Related: Brazil judge overseeing corruption probe dies in plane crash
It’s not just its own employees. The company does business with many other firms across Latin America that depend on Odebrecht’s business.
With many countries’ economies struggling to grow, especially Brazil with record-high unemployment, prosecutors’ desire to protect workers could allow Odebrecht to survive.
“No one wants Odebretch to go into bankruptcy…the government wants to preserve jobs,” says Alexandre Garcia, associate director of Fitch Ratings in Brazil. “Does it survive? Well yes, it does. But survival doesn’t mean that it won’t come out of this smaller.”
