The final paragraph of my reflection essay on "Macbeth" and its themes:

"I define myself as a political nihilist and feel that our present country is a fair likeness to the tragedy of Macbeth regarding greed and unchecked power. As in Macbeth, our current society suffers while a few in power pursue their personal wishes against the betterment of society. Rights are stripped from minorities, and the disabled continue to struggle in a world not welcoming to them. The power of these few could make so many positive changes, but like Macbeth, they worry over their positions and want to remain in control. Shakespeare was probably speaking out about social and political problems in his world when writing this tragedy. But he also showed how the wrong person in charge could create a humongous and awful mess for the whole. It shows our connectedness and how we affect others, but it also serves as a warning. If only all leaders would think about how they might act if given a specific power, then maybe things would be better, and they could keep their heads, literally and figuratively, in some cases. “I think our country sinks beneath the yoke. / It weeps, it bleeds, and each new day a gash / Is added to her wounds.” (Shakespeare, Act 4, Scene 3)."

nihilism is white supremacist. and with that, everything else in the same structure: discriminatory, classicist, misoginistic, racist, etc. to think nothing matters because all is devoid of meaning harms the inherent value in other's people value in living (as well as their struggles) and squanders your own accountability and part on the matter. "i didn't make X choices/i have nothing to do with Y" do you think people suffering with situation N chose that. do you really think before their materialization on earth they actively chose pain and suffering. besides, if someone reaches out a hand asking for help, do you truly say no. do you feel ok saying no. "but i have to care for my own--" at the cost of the people upholding your comfort and place? do you think the people on the streets are not as or worse victims of the workflow of social ideology and structural violence. to what extent are you willing to sacrifice loving values for the goal of the gourmetized idea of success in a failing and cruel society. does not everyone deserve a dignified life, a dignified future? a minimum of relishing among loved ones, with food, a roof, common spaces, common safety. please. everytime someone mopes in even the most shallow nihilism it is so selfish.
