Sorry if this has already been said but I've been thinking about the story logistics behind the poly routes and just how fucked the Crown will be in some of them.

Like imagine the X/D route- the reader sends two of their closest allies out and then they both get into trouble

Or the R/A route where you turn your head away for just a second and now A and R are out of commission

not to mention the crown just internally screaming when they realize how A and X's backstories intertwine

if the crown thinks they have it bad now just wait till everything is 2x

(also i know its not a legit route in the future, but the mental image of the crown being in a relationship with all the LIs and just by ch 10 having everyone get into some trouble amuses me to no end- like at that point they just need to sit down and put their head in their hands)

Considering all of the above: you can understand why I'm so excited to write them, right? They're going to be such a gigantic clusterfuck of emotions and conflict, both personal and political.

But it's also another reason why I can't write these while writing the solo routes at the same time. Each poly route is going to be twice the size of a solo route, basically!!

First fic published on Ao3: That would be The Other Side of the Mirror, an Earth-3 continuity mess with a JayDick main pair, featuring Roy as a 3rd PoV. First chapter was posted in September, 2014, currently 200k, 20 chapters , and as of yet unfinished, though I think as it stands it ends on a decently hopeful note. I do still recall the main plot points of where it goes, and would like to finish it someday.

Last fic published: I posted the first chapter of Five Finger Discount just yesterday, which is the 5th piece in my Worth Counting series, an alpha!Slade/alpha!Jason series exploring a variety of kinks but with a focus on non-formal dom/sub vibes, competence/strength kink, and mostly-play fighting. (The last finished story was Shifting Into Fourth which is the 4th piece of that same series, so, I'm a little bit on a theme here.)

Fandom/ship I only wrote once: I uh. I wrote Hamilton/Jefferson/Madison room-where-it-happens porn. For the Hamilton musical. It's called Do Whatever It Takes and I think it is still the thing that makes me feel the most sinfully dirty of all the things I've ever written. So there's that.

I also have Let's Be Clear, which is my only fic set anywhere in the MCU, and is a Daredevil oneshot of an asexual!Wesley being invited to join a Fisk/Vanessa relationship, as I vibed real hard with Wesley as a character and never really got over his unfortunate demise.

(Honorable mention to my four stories that are technically fandoms of their own, but all fall under the 'DCU' umbrella, being for the Arkham games, two shows in the CW Arrowverse, and the Teen Titans cartoon.)

Favorite fic in most popular fandom/ship: This is a little hard to quantify. Technically 'DCU (Comics)' comes in at 93k in stories, which would make JayDick the most popular pairing, which makes my favorite story Captain's Privileges. It's a Star Trek mirror!verse fusion with Captain!Dick and Engineer!Jason and so many unhealthy relationships everywhere, and I love it.

However! 'DCU (Comics)' is a very broad umbrella and it's not really fair to say it's my biggest fandom, since the slice I belong to is much smaller. Which means the more accurate winner is Voltron, at 85k stories. I technically have a Klance story but given that it is a big poly clusterfuck dark!fic I really have to actually give this to the second most popular pairing by stat, Sheith. Out of those, I think my favorite is I'm Not That Man, which was an early false-memories/brainwashed!Shiro fic set just before the wormhole split them all up.

Fic I wish more people read: An Extra Shot, hands down. Come read my gen, Wilson-family-focused exploration of what happens if Adeline dies during the attack on Joey! Come read Slade Wilson being forced into confronting the fact that he is a terrible dad and also now a widowed dad of three kids! Come read Billy trying his best to bludgeon all the terrible communicators of this family into actually working things out! READ THIS. THERE'S A SEQUEL IN PROGRESS. IT'S GOOD I SWEAR.

Fic that was hardest to write: I think the award for this has to go to Me, Not Her, a CaptainPan/CaptainSwan piece which I was apparently so frustrated with at some point that I straight up deleted the file. Four years later (no I am not kidding) I had the vague memory of it. Some sketchy thing I could maybe expand, now that I was having thoughts about OUaT again. I pull it out of the (then eternal) trash of Google Drive. It is five thousand words long and needs no more than pretty basic editing and a little padding at the end to round it off. I don't know what the hell was happening with me when I deleted it, but wow, lesson learned.

Fic that popped out fully-formed: I don't recall any that were explicitly like this, but I also don't tend to write like, neat little packaged stories all that often. If I'm writing oneshots they're usually for events. So my best answer to this is probably Fucking Androids? It's a Reed900 relationship origin story that blazed its way out of me during NaNoWriMo one year, named entirely for the sex pun and then in the end absolutely refusing to have any sex in it, so it won that fight. I remember at least most of it coming really, really easy.

Fic I'm proud of: Pulling out a weird little one, here. I'm going to say Take a Ride. It's a JayDick, Gotham City Garage story that I wrote for Firefright's birthday one year, and on reread I actually still really, really like it? It's just a neat apocalyptic-desert vibe relationship building thing, set in the criminally under-explored and rushed GCG world, and I really like how I put Dick together in this one. I recommend it.

I made myself a (new) wallpaper and... I guess my plans for the story changed (again) during the posing of the characters? Well, it's not as if my plans didn't already change 47 times a day.

I mean, Al was never meant to go back with Kiyoshi (after the club, and sleeping with Wolfie, Kiyoshi was only supposed to punch Wolfie once, and Al was to left him and get with Wolfie). Worse, initially, Al & Kiyoshi were supposed to go to uni, get married, and adopt a couple kids. But Kiyoshi decided to become an abusive arsehole. Also, Wolfie was never meant to leave Henford, and Jeb wasn't in the story.

So who knows what my plans will be tomorrow. Maybe Mary will leave Tabi for Luna Villareal. Or Mal will decide to become a monk. Or Morgan will finally fulfill her dream of seducing Bella. Anything is possible (well, monk!Mal doesn't sound plausible, he's too attached to sex, but what do I know?). So, yeah, maybe the relationship between Wolfie and Jeb (with some Wolfie/Mal on the side*) will happen. Or maybe not.

What's for sure, is that Alfie is not gonna be happy for quite some time (*cough* Big Clusterfuck™ and it's aftermath *cough*).

*if it happens it won't be an adulterous relationship, but a poly one (though I don't think Jeb and Mal would be involved with each other)

Okay so like. I haven’t completely thought through all the plot plot shit but what I have I’m putting under a read more in case like anyone besides us are reading these and don’t wanna know about Lightlark 3.0 (2.0 is gonna be my ghostwrite edit I’ve decided. All this and school and Constellations? RIP my own book I guess) 

Are you familiar with the plot of Curse of Strahd? Doesn’t matter if you are I’m saying it anyway. Basically Strahd got all pissy that his brother was marrying this woman he liked. So like. He killed his brother if I remember right? And then the woman was like “fuck this and fuck you I’m not marrying you you creep” and killed herself. Or he pushed her over a cliff, one of the two. 

During all this he’d made a deal with this thing called Vampyr and that deal pulled Barovia, the country he was rulling, into the mists. Bonus plot twist, one of the NPCs (or PC depending on your DM and party) is the reincarnation of te woman who said fuck you to Strahd. So he obsessively goes after her every time she reincarnates. 

This is pretty easily mapped out onto the current clusterfuck that is... all that mess. We can still have a fracturing of the island along political lines (important of course. We’re upping the blood and political intrigue here. I’m gonna have to research political intrigue), an attempt at a wedding, a murder that backfires and curses everyone. 

I know in my head Metal is most tied to the island, ie can’t leave. Instead of being the “channel” or whatever because let’s be real, Aster’s magic system is dumb as hell and makes no sense (fixing in 2.0 too actually), Metal will be the island’s voice. That’s how there can still be a heart of te island that is the actual source of the power as well as the Metal Court. 

Side note: since they get turned into statues due to their curse, they don’t know what to do with all the excess bodies at first. Eventually it becomes a Thing for them to become part of the architecture. It’s said the hives are haunted especially. idk I can’t stop thinking about Steven Universe gems become architecture but still being Aware 

Logically, another court would be marrying into Metal, and it’s going to heavily depend on who our human is with that determines the court. Not Sky. Apparently my brain has latched onto Sky being the “true” love interest (I’m not beyond poly but I’m also condensing the timeline because 100 days is Too Long and thus any true romance would need longer to work properly). I’m honestly leaning towards Wood being the court that was marrying into Metal. The two more earth aligned elements coming together, the one most associated wit the magic of the island, the other most associated with war. It works. 

Metal would be the victim here. That’s why the death rebounds. The island was basically forced to murder its own voice and it lashed back out at the source. Overshot it a bit, but Lightlark is an island so what do you expect? 

Also I’m glad you absolutely got the reverse diving helmet thing from Spongebob. That is exactly what I was thinking.

so what should a healthy poly relationship look like?

Everyone should have an equal standing when it comes to their own relationships and you should have equal respect. Triads are fine, but it shouldn't a couple+1 dynamic.

A couple examples of the healthy poly relationships I've seen and people I know:

K is married and co-parents with E, K is E's only partner but K has other lovers and partners across the world she visits. Some are casual and some are lifelong loves. E is well aware and perfectly happy with this arrangement, he's not one for travel and serious romance for more than one but respects K's desire for it. All the other partners in the relationship are aware and satisfied with it as well, if someone has a grievance she takes it equally seriously.

J is mostly single and prefers it that way. They have lovers and romance going with multiple people at once pretty and dates other poly people with partners, but doesn't have anyone they would consider a "partner." They have full autonomy and come and go as they please in relationships and if you're seeing them that's part of the deal.

B practices "kitchen table" polyamory where her and her husband have separate partners and sometimes share partners and their partners might also be partners, it's just kinda a happy clusterfuck where people do what works for them and if it works for someone else too, join the fun! If things get serious people often move closer or even cohabit Her husband S owns a sex dungeon where they do education on safe kink and they're active in the community. B has a daughter but that's HER kid and the other adults are welcome to co-parent, but she gets the final say, the daughter's happiness and safety is the biggest consideration, and everyone involved agrees with that.

N has a jumble of partners and none of them are the primary even if she's legally married to one of them. If she could she'd marry them all. I think there's a pretty consistent 3 people in the relationship that cohabit, I would call it a healthy triad, but each partner also is welcome to have and enjoy their own relationships within it, outside of it and those all have equal importance so I wouldn't call them "primary" partners either.

Finally, this isn't a poly relationship but I consider myself poly-ambivalent. Meaning that I'm a lot like E in the first example where I don't want more than one partner, but if my husband found someone he wants to share his life with along with me, then by all means.

favorite work from wildbow?

Torn between Twig and Pale.

Twig was the first one I read as it was ongoing, and I loved the vibe. (Body horror in writing is not too squick for me and honestly I think I probably share some messed up fetishes with Wildbow going by some of those interludes.)

The girls. The girls. Lillian's entire badass thing of trying to hold herself together as the only remotely normal human in the team. Helen's utterly delightful inhumanity. Mary and her sheer technical expertise. (Nora and Lara were fine albeit unforgettable.) And amidst it all, the ridiculously queer poly clusterfuck forming between Lillian and Sy and Jessie.

Pale OTOH is just, like, Wildbow's most recent work, and his protagonist characterisation is incredible. I feel sympathetic to whichever of the trio is narrating at any given time and empathise with all their little squabbles with one another. And as with Twig, the 'fuck institutional power' themes are super enjoyable to me(*).

And I love how Verona and Lucy and Avery are struggling with alienation and adolescence in their own ways, and how earnest their self-doubt and growth all feels.

(* Which I think, incidentally, is what I disliked the most about Ward: it always felt like people scrapping over a postapocalyptic society, clashes of methodology and ideology... I was always rooting for our non-Tristan heroes but I never felt like I truly rooted against any of the antagonists—except Cradle and Carol Dallon I guess—so the emotional stakes of the long term future-of-society plot points were harder to invest in. Plus that wildbow bastard killed Fortuna, the real one, ugh.)

So a mob boss walks into a flower shop-

Fr tho that’s what happens. Two shop owner acquaintances, Edge, a florist, and Alibi, a book retailer, wind up entangled with the district’s local mafia family, and ultimately end up in a relationship with one of the dons, Stretch (Luck).

Stretch accidentally summons a demon. A duo of hunters try to cast the demon, Edge, from the mortal plane. Instead, one of them, Alibi, winds up falling in love with both contractor and contractee. Somehow works out happily.

Edge was an abandoned lab experiment with a vampire mutation. Nurse Blue and Caseworker Alibi are assigned to him in a ditch effort to rehabilitate him before he’s deemed too unsafe and euthanized. Of course it goes well and Edge eventually stays with the swap brothers once released, which is also when the usual suspects fall in love together.

Literally idk how to summarize this one. The underground is basically just cyberpunk 2420 or whatever, Edge and Al both run rebellion factions and Stretch is but a humble mechanic who winds up involved in their shenanigans.

Edge lives in an isolated cabin in the woods. Stretch and Alibi, already a couple, befriend him. They eventually wind up dating. There is no drama at all trust me it’s a very peaceful AU nothing bad ever happens go back to sleep little bro

There is NO way to concisely summarize this clusterfuck. TrafficMafiaFell Chief and Glitchfell Dos wind up falling in love with Glitchedswap Uno at different points in time. Alibi is a strange sort of demi-god who’s been cast from his realm to serve his deity from the mortal plane. Falls in love with Stretch, then both of them eventually fall for their strange bodyguard.

Young Contract except Edge was branded with a special sigil to hide him and make him appear mortal. Toriel raises him until it’s eventually discovered he’s a demon and the TrF bros help him and his bf Stretch hide.

Lovefell Pre-Surface

Through a series of bizarre events, Lace is “gifted” to the recently crowned king Alibi. After the barrier finally breaks, the two of them break away and start a new life together, where they also meet Stretch.

Voice

Those from TrF have the unique ability to imbue their voices with their magic. However, due to circumstances, Alibi cannot speak. This doesn’t stop Edge and Stretch from falling for him all the same.

Edge is a mer creature. Stretch is a mortal helping him find his way home. Alibi is a pirate giving them a lift. Works out, after a few complications.

Edge is a different type of mer creature, while Alibi is the Royal Guard stationed on a remote post whom Edge loves to bother in his free time. Stretch is a charter who somehow winds up tangled up with the two.

Edge is a sort of god-entity, reincarnated avatar type…being. Alibi is his devoted bodyguard and Stretch is one of his dedicated Judges. He’s not really supposed to get so attached to individuals, but the “Elder Priests”…don’t really know how to stop him! Lol

Alibi is the lone survivor after the sailors who’d been helping him with a curse are attacked by pirates. He was saved by a curious mer creature, who then dedicates himself to helping as well. Eventually, they meet Stretch, a brilliant mage who specializes in curses. Convenient!

Mirror AU except Edge now has Hanahaki disease.
