ok, i cant resist the urge to make a post about it after all, especially since it's related to a post i made prior
one of my favorite moments in trimax is By Far this part in chapter 35
Tumblr media Tumblr media
[ID: Two pages from Trigun. The first starts with Wolfwood thinking, "Now that I think 'bout it, it may be one of the major differences between our species." That deep rooted dear I felt on the ship…" He thinks of Vash crying blood and, swearing, wonders, "Is he the one who can save humankind? That monster?" Wolfwood is briefly shown in resolution before someone calls, "Hey, Wolfwood!" and he looks up with surprise.
Vash sits with a smile at the edge of a rooftop, backed by the Fifth Moon and its prominent crater. Vash asks with a smile, "Just coming back now? You're a bit of a night owl, huh?" Wolfwood looks taken aback and wary. End ID]
Right Here. Vash is just sitting there, smiling like normal, but he's got the backdrop of the damage he caused on the moon set Perfectly behind him. it's a glaring reminder to Wolfwood of who exactly he's dealing with here, and that TERRIFIES him.
& the fact that Wolfwood still remembers that moment of crying blood as a moment of true fear. because for all the cheer Vash shows in the average moment, Wolfwood just recently saw him nearly lose control Again (at the Dragon's Nest). the second time he witnessed it, & the third time he would know about.
Vash is a walking atomic bomb with multiple charges. even with how cheerful & kind he is, he's shown Multiple Times that he does not have full control. he is decidedly something different, something Hazardous to humans, and Wolfwood knows this very very painfully.
for all that Wolfwood loves Vash, he is also terrified of him. and at this point in the story, that terror is potent enough to nearly eclipse his affection for Vash.
leading to some of the next most iconic pages:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
[ID: The next page starts with Wolfwood standing behind the sitting Vash, his expression hard and the moon bright behind him. Vash seems sad and has one eye open. A close-up focuses on Wolfwood looking down.
Wolfwood thinks, "So easy to pull the trigger. So easy to remove half the problem." Another close-up with bright lighting obscures his face but for one eye. Then Vash turns around curiously and asks, "What's up?" Wolfwood sits behind him and says "Nothin'. Come on. Let's go." Vash seems surprised as Wolfwood scolds, "Don't get yerself tangled up in every little skirmish ya see. It'll be pointless if ya get yerself killed before ya meet him." End ID]
the manga frames it like Vash doesn't know Wolfwood was pointing the gun at him, but I think he did know. he's freakishly perceptive over and over again throughout the story. he HAS to be in order to survive like he has. he'd hear the movement of the gun & sense Wolfwood behind him...
he'd know. i really think he knew.
but he doesn't do anything about it. there is zero fear in his face. he turns to look at Wolfwood curiously, a bit confused, but not afraid. he never once thought that Wolfwood would shoot him. there's full faith and trust there in that moment.
Wolfwood pretends that nothing happened, & Vash lets him. they both move on, not talking about it, because they never talk about Anything of substance like this (not until much, Much later).
overall, it's just such a great example of their relationship's development. Wolfwood's fear & Vash's trust that he won't act on it... it's just. Man.
(EDIT: people have made some good points about how Vash's expression when Wolfwood points the gun at him shows that he probably did know and YEAH that's a good point! & probably why I was so certain he knew lol, I just hadn't realized it myself)

Fanny Price as a Fairy Tale Princess
Fanny Price in Mansfield Park doesn't fit exactly into the Cinderella story because instead of an orphan her parents are painfully alive and she isn't exactly treated as a servant, certainly not scullery maid level. Also, the big ball gets her the attention of a man she rejects, certainly not a prince. However, Mansfield Park it is like Cinderella in that a virtuous and kind girl waits patiently for her happy ending while enduring oppression. But the notes of the story are kind of backwards.
The bigger problem with Fanny = Cinderella is that Cinderella is only out for herself. Not that Cinderella is selfish, because she isn't, but she is an orphan and she doesn't have anyone in her life who needs help more than her. Fanny does.
Fanny also doesn't fit with any of the born princesses, though it occurs to me that Emma is totally Disney's Jasmine.
This is why what I think is more true to Fanny's story is subverting Beauty and the Beast. Fanny, like Beauty, is set up as a civilizing influence, but we are shown through the story how easily even men who respect her can ignore her morality, especially Edmund. We are even told outright that Fanny is supposed to reform Henry Crawford:
"You will supply the rest; and a most fortunate man he is to attach himself to such a creature—to a woman who, firm as a rock in her own principles, has a gentleness of character so well adapted to recommend them. He has chosen his partner, indeed, with rare felicity. He will make you happy, Fanny; I know he will make you happy; but you will make him everything.” (Ch 35)
Fanny rejects this, she basically says it's too much responsibility. Which yeah, it is!
Then when like Beauty, Fanny is offered the choice to sacrifice her happiness for the good of her family, she says no. And it's not because Fanny doesn't love her family, especially her brother William. Fanny has just as much love as Beauty, but she refuses to be a sacrificial lamb. Not that what Beauty does isn't admirable, but it puts the father's life and freedom ahead of Beauty's. Jane Austen is done with that, it is too much to ask.
Fanny will not surrender her entire life for the good of her family, and yet she is still a heroine. She is a heroine for standing up for her values, for holding strong in the face of oppression, and for giving what she can even if the ultimate sacrifice was too much.

It just occurred to me that "belt bag" is to me now what "flip flops" were to my mom when i was a teen.
When I was in middle school everyone wore flip flops to everything. You had special fancy ones for dressier occasions and a million colors of the $5 Old Navy foam and plastic flip flops for school and hanging with friends and the local pool. I even had multiple pairs of socks that had individual toes so I could wear flip flops in the winter (Y2K revival fashion tragically ignores the cringe parts of the era). And whenever my mom talked to me about them she would refer to them as "thongs".
As in "Hey honey, are you planning to wear your thongs to school tomorrow?" or whatever.
And I could not abide it.
"They're not thongs, mom, they're flip flops. Thongs are the underwear." [Insert indignant preteen embarrassment directed at parent]
And we were both right. A thong is just a thin, often but not always, leather cord. Flip flops were made with leather thongs before the plastic and foam that I was accustomed to and the fancier dressy ones still were leather, so my parents would have called them thong shoes or thongs long before I started wearing them for everything. But marketing, the generation gap, and time (and probably other factors) led us to call them flip flops instead and be indignant when our parents called them thongs.
I've felt much like my mom now when I see the generation after me calling fanny packs "belt bags". They're called fanny packs cause you wear it around your hips just above the fanny. I know cause I had an OG one in the late 90s. So did my brother. I kept a magnifying glass in it like Harriet the Spy, and a toy wallet with maybe $2 in it. But marketing and the generation gap and other things mean it doesn't matter what we called it in the 90s. It's a belt bag now. I'm just glad I don't have a 13 year-old daughter to roll her eyes at me and say "It's not a fanny pack, mom, it's a belt bag" anytime I talk about wearing a fanny pack (that day will no doubt come in the next decade with some other trend when I do have a preteen child lol).

Fateful Encounter
Tumblr media
Pairing: princess!Natasha Romanoff x fem!reader
Summary: MedievalAU. Natasha’s first meeting with you and the beginning of your friendship with her. Flashback to how it all started and a small prequel to events in Boundless Devotion.
Warnings: light fluff, light angst
Words: 3965
In the royal garden of the castle, Natasha sighs in disappointment when she comes up empty once again at another one of Yelena’s usual hiding spots.
Today is the celebration of Natasha’s 11th birthday, and the ballroom is already bustling with members of the noble families gathered for the event.
Her mother had asked her to watch her little sister for a moment, while she discussed some important matters with a noble who had recently returned to the kingdom from his travels.
Unfortunately, Yelena had slipped away when she wasn’t looking, so now she’s trying to find her and return to the celebration quickly before her mother discovers that they’re both missing.
As Natasha wracks her brain for another possible hiding spot, she catches the sounds of voices nearby. Curious, she decides to investigate.
Arriving at the small clearing, Natasha releases a small breath of relief when she spots Yelena. However, her relief quickly turns to protectiveness and anger as she notices the tears glistening in her little sister’s eyes.
“Give her back!” Yelena demands, trying to maintain a serious expression despite her tears, her small hands wiping them away.
Mocking laughter erupts from the others in the clearing, and Natasha recognizes them immediately.
Rumlow, accompanied by two other children of noble houses, chuckles as they toss Yelena’s favorite stuffed animal – a plush puppy Natasha had given her – back and forth.
Realizing what’s happening, Natasha moves to intervene, but a new voice interrupts with a chastising tone.
“Stop that, Lord Rumlow!”
Natasha pauses in her tracks, taken aback by the unfamiliar newcomer stepping in. She tilts her head curiously, trying to place you among the nobles’ children in her memory.
You appear to be about her age, but she's certain she's never seen you before – she would have remembered your face if she had.
Stepping up to the trio, you snatch the stuffed animal from Rumlow with a stern glare. He at least has the decency to look ashamed, though it's possible he's just upset at being caught.
“We’re just having some fun,” he defends himself, half-heartedly inviting, “You could join us if you want, Lady Y/n.”
Natasha makes a mental note of your name, softly repeating it to herself.
Your frown deepens, and you cross your arms, uninterested in his proposal.
“You’re being a bully. Now apologize.”
Rumlow makes a reluctant face, but he eventually looks away from your disapproving expression to Yelena, grumbling out an apology before nudging the others, who follow suit with their apologies.
Rolling his eyes in annoyance, he turns away with a disgruntled groan.
“Ah..I’m bored already. Let’s go.”
They head towards Natasha’s direction, but upon turning the corner, they freeze, eyes widening at the sight of her.
Natasha stands firm, arms crossed, glaring at them. With a curt gesture of her head, she silently dismisses them.
Rumlow scowls in irritation, but still, they all bow to her slightly before hastily scurrying off.
Returning her attention to the clearing, she observes you now bending down in front of Yelena, wearing a soft smile as you offer her stuffed animal back.
“That’s a cute puppy. What’s her name?” you ask gently.
Yelena sniffles, taking the toy from your hand and clutching it tightly to her side.
“Fanny,” she responds in a small tone, her sadness still evident.
Noticing Yelena's down-hearted expression, you pull some candy from your pocket, offering it to her.
“Hmm…would you and Fanny like some candy?”
Yelena's eyes light up as usual at the sight of the treats, and she nods eagerly, a smile quickly replacing her earlier sadness.
Natasha's lips twitch into a small smile, impressed by how effortlessly you comfort Yelena. Intrigued by you, she moves to step into the clearing, but a stern voice interrupts her.
“Y/n, where are you?”
Your head snaps up at the call, and you stand quickly, ready to leave. Before you go, you turn back to give Yelena a polite bow and a small wave.
“I have to go. But you should head back inside soon too, okay, Princess Yelena?”
Yelena agrees with a nod, and you swiftly depart in another direction, unaware of Natasha as she emerges from her hiding spot.
As Natasha watches you go with a curious tilt of her head and a hint of disappointment, Yelena rushes up to her.
“Nat! Look, I got candy.”
“That’s good,” Natasha responds absentmindedly, her gaze still fixed on where you left.
Yelena glances between her older sister and the empty space she's staring at, tilting her head in confusion. She tugs at Natasha’s sleeve to regain her attention.
“What are you looking at?”
Natasha snaps out of her reverie, looking down at her sister.
“Do you know that girl, Yelena?”
Yelena shakes her head.
“No, but she saved me and Fanny,” she says casually, offering a piece of candy to Natasha. “Want one?”
Natasha declines with a shake of her head, patting Yelena's head fondly before gesturing towards the castle.
“Come on, let’s see if we can convince mom and dad if we can get you a real Fanny to protect you from now on.”
Sneaking back into the ballroom without any incident, Natasha and Yelena seamlessly rejoin the celebration just as their mother finishes her conversation with the noble.
“Here they are,” Melina announces, nudging Natasha forward to greet the noble. “Natasha, this is Lord Dreykov. His house oversees our foreign affairs and relations.”
The man offers a curt nod of greeting.
“Hello, Princess Natasha.”
Natasha eyes him warily before offering her own greeting in return.
A faint smirk forms on Lord Dreykov's lips before he turns his attention back to her mother.
“Her eyes are filled with determination. That’s a promising trait to see in the heir of the kingdom,” he remarks.
“Yes, she’s always been like that,” Melina agrees before remembering something. “Ah, yes. You also have a daughter around Natasha’s age. Is she here with you?”
Lord Dreykov’s smile twitches down slightly, but he maintains a composed demeanor, responding in an even tone.
“She is. Although, I’m afraid that girl appears to have wandered off. Likely just exploring the grounds as usual,” he explains.
“Well, a curious mind is a great thing to have,” Melina praises.
“Indeed,” Lord Dreykov replies curtly. “If you’ll excuse me.”
With a nod of understanding, Melina lets him go.
Once he leaves, Yelena tugs on their mother’s dress to get her attention.
“Natasha says I can get a puppy!” Yelena announces happily.
“Did she now?” Melina asks, her eyes glancing at Natasha’s in question.
Natasha simply shrugs before tuning out her mother’s subsequent lecture to Yelena about the responsibilities of owning a dog. She turns her attention to the ballroom, her gaze searching for one person in particular.
Finally spotting you at the far corner, Natasha's excited expression shifts when she realizes something is wrong.
You are no longer smiling, and your head is slightly bowed as Lord Dreykov towers in front of you, clearly scolding you.
Understanding dawns on Natasha – you must be Lord Dreykov’s daughter, explaining why she hasn’t seen you until now.
As Lord Dreykov continues his reprimand, Natasha notices your hands clutching your dress, clearly upset by his words. A stern-looking woman behind you intervenes, placing a hand on your shoulder, prompting you to straighten up.
Feeling uneasy, Natasha instinctively moves to step toward you, but then another noble comes up to her mother, and suddenly, she’s being turned around to greet them.
After exchanging a quick greeting, Natasha discreetly glances over her shoulder at you, only to see the woman guiding you away through the ballroom doors, disappearing from view.
Disheartened, Natasha slumps in disappointment, turning back around and wondering when she’ll have the chance to see you again.
~~~~~~~ ⧗ ~~~~~~~
A week later, Natasha finds herself beneath the large tree by the lake, wincing in pain as she examines her injured knee.
She had sneaked out of the castle to relax by the lake after completing her studies, and an attempt to climb the tree ended with a painful fall.
Her hands are scraped with light red marks, but the real issue is the bleeding and throbbing in her knee, particularly when she tries to move.
“Are you okay?”
Natasha startles at the sudden voice, her eyes widening as she meets yours. Stunned by your unexpected presence, she could only stare at you blankly in surprise.
Receiving no response from her, you turn to the young boy and girl by your side.
“Pietro, Wanda, can you go get help?”
Natasha snaps out of her daze upon hearing your request.
Being caught sneaking out of the castle is one thing, but being caught injured while doing so would surely earn her a lecture from her mother.
“No, don’t! I’m fine.”
The two children glance between Natasha and you, seeking direction, and you gesture for them to go, disregarding Natasha’s protests.
“Tell them it’s Princess Natasha who’s hurt,” you add, much to Natasha’s irritation.
They hurry away while you approach the lake, bending down to wet a handkerchief in the water.
Natasha huffs in disbelief at you. This wasn't how she imagined meeting you.
Knowing she can't be caught here when those two return, her face sets with determination as she attempts to stand. But, just as she applies pressure to her injured leg, she stumbles to the ground with a small cry of pain.
“Stop moving,” you chastise, kneeling beside her.
Natasha is once again taken aback, particularly by your tone towards her. As the princess and heir to the kingdom, other noble children are typically more formal and cautious around her.
Meeting her widened eyes, you seem to recall her status, bowing slightly in embarrassment.
“I’m sorry, I didn’t mean—"
“No, it’s okay,” Natasha interrupts, offering reassurance.
An awkward silence follows, but then, you wordlessly gesture for her to show you her knee.
Natasha hesitates briefly before deciding to trust you, extending her leg.
As you clean her wound, Natasha bites her lip to suppress any sounds of pain, trying to be brave. However, a small hiss escapes her at one point, and she catches your eyes glancing at her before a tiny amused smile tugs at your lips.
Realizing that this may be your first impression of her, Natasha pouts. She got to see you be a hero to Yelena. Meanwhile, you probably think she can't even handle this small injury.
Finishing by wrapping a makeshift bandage around her knee with your handkerchief, you remark, “It’s not much, but that should hold for now.”
“Thank you,” Natasha says softly before adding, “And also for helping Yelena last week.”
At your surprised expression, Natasha elaborates.
“I saw you help her deal with Rumlow and the others. You didn’t have to get involved, yet you did anyway, so thank you.”
You wave your hand slightly in reassurance, shaking your head.
“Anybody would do the same,” you say casually.
Natasha smiles at your words before leaning forward curiously.
“How come I haven’t seen you around before?”
Your smile fades a little at her question, and you duck your head to fidget with your hands in your lap.
“I don’t usually go to events at the castle. Madam B. doesn’t like things like that,” you explain, looking up to see Natasha’s confused expression.
“Madam B’s my governess,” you clarify. “She takes care of me when my father is away.”
Natasha nods in understanding, recalling the woman from the other day and her mother’s mention of Lord Dreykov often being away to handle relations with other kingdoms.
After a moment, you speak up again.
“I’ve seen you before though,” you admit. “I visited the castle with my father this one time. You were on the training ground with the captain.”
“And what did you think?” Natasha asks curiously.
You tilt your head in thought before admitting, “It was impressive to see that you can hold your own against some of the knights in the Royal Guard.”
Natasha smirks proudly at your praise before wincing as she goes to adjust her leg’s position.
You raise your brows at her, letting out an amused chuckle.
“But I guess it’s also nice to see that you are not much different from the rest of us.”
Natasha huffs in amusement, “Are you teasing me?”
You shrug in a silent response, not denying her accusation.
Shaking her head in amusement at your actions, Natasha examines your handiwork appreciatively and lightly tests her leg. The pain has dulled to a low tingling sensation, much more bearable than before.
Determined, she prepares to push herself up to stand, but a firm pressure on her shoulder stops her before she can even attempt it.
You give her an incredulous look, your hand still on her shoulder.
“You can’t walk on that.”
“I think I know what I’m capable of,” Natasha responds, lightly pressing the back of her hand against your wrist in an attempt to push it off.
You maintain your position firmly, not budging.
Natasha glares at you, a look that usually intimidates people, but you return her stubborn stare with one of your own.
The two of you engage in a silent battle for a moment before Natasha eventually relents, impressed.
“Not bad,” she admits. “You are probably the most stubborn person I’ve met, maybe even more than me.”
You roll your eyes and shake your head at her words, removing your hand from her shoulder and moving to lean against the trunk of the tree.
Carefully scooting to sit beside you, mindful of her leg, Natasha leans her head back against the tree with a sigh.
“I guess we’ll be waiting here for a while.”
“What makes you say that?” you ask.
“You sent two kids who look around Yelena’s age to find somebody they consider to be responsible. They’re bound to get distracted,” Natasha points out.
You shake your head in disagreement.
“I don’t think so. Pietro is fast, and Wanda will keep them focused.”
“If you say so,” Natasha says skeptically.
You gesture to her knee, changing the subject.
“How did you get hurt anyway?”
Natasha lifts her finger to point at the branches above.
“I fell from the tree,” she answers plainly.
“What were you doing in the tree?” you ask curiously.
In response, Natasha leans her shoulder against yours, directing your attention to a small cluster of scarlet flowers at the end of one of the highest branches.
“I was trying to get those,” she explains, “They bloom every year around this time, but people rarely see them since they’re hidden so high up.”
Your eyes remain fixed on the flowers, admiring them.
“They’re pretty,” you comment, prompting Natasha to grin triumphantly.
She nudges your shoulder gently.
“What about you? Why are you here?”
You show her the book at your side, placing it in your lap as you answer.
“I come here to read sometimes.”
Recognizing the cover, Natasha frowns in displeasure.
“That’s my mom’s book. Wouldn’t you want to read something more interesting?”
You chuckle at her expression, insisting, “This is interesting to me. I like reading about the queen’s experiments and research.”
Natasha observes you curiously before resting her head back against the trunk with a huff of disbelief.
She has to listen to her mother’s experiments unwillingly every day, and here you are, reading about it for fun.
Trying to continue the conversation, Natasha recalls her mother’s recent work.
“You know, I think she’s working on something new right now. She mentioned it was inspired by something she learned from the Starks,” she offers, turning to look at you.
To her surprise, your face grimaces at her words.
“I’m not really interested in anything connected with that kingdom,” you reply.
Natasha tilts her head, leaning in curiously.
“Do you hate the Stark Kingdom?”
You raise a brow at her, answering. “Don’t you? They killed a lot of our people.”
“So did we,” Natasha counters.
You fall silent at her point, lips twisting in thought.
Noticing your consideration, she presses on.
“From what I learned, the war hurt everyone, and we can’t change what happened in the past.”
Nodding in determination, Natasha gazes out at the calm lake, imagining a peaceful future.
“But we can try to make it better. That’s why when I become queen, I want to fix the pain that the war caused. For everyone here…and everyone in the Stark kingdom.”
Turning back to you, she finds you staring at her with wide eyes.
Feeling suddenly shy under the intense admiration in your gaze, Natasha rubs her neck awkwardly and looks down, mumbling softly, “Or something like that…”
In the momentary silence, the rustle of branches fills the air before you finally speak.
“That’s a lot of work for one person,” you remark. “Why would you want to take on all that pressure to help people you don’t even know?”
Natasha smiles gently, meeting your gaze with a raise of her brow.
“Anybody would do the same,” she repeats your words.
You huff in disbelief, but a smile tugs at your lips as you continue.
“You would need a lot of support.”
“Yeah,” Natasha sighs, already aware of the challenges ahead.
Changing minds and hearts is never easy, and finding genuinely good people to help her will also be difficult.
Her eyes drift to the makeshift bandage you made for her, and an idea forms in her mind.
Turning to face you, she asks eagerly, “Would you be my first?”
“What?” you ask, puzzled.
“You said I needed support,” Natasha points out, extending her hand to you. “Would you like to be my first?”
Your eyes observe her carefully, considering her offer, before drifting to her outstretched hand. Finally, you close your hand around hers, giving her an amused smile.
“Well, I guess someone has to help you whenever you decide to fall out of a tree again,” you tease.
Natasha’s smile widens, and she chuckles.
“Then I guess I'll be in your care from now on.”
~~~~~~~ ⧗ ~~~~~~~
Natasha blinks her eyes open, waking slowly from her nap. Rays of sunlight filter through the branches of the tree, casting dancing shadows on her face. Her gaze then drifts to the scarlet flowers, now in full bloom, just like that fateful day fifteen years ago.
“Don’t even think about it.”
At your voice, Natasha turns her head slightly from her resting position on your lap to look at you in surprise.
You don’t even look up from your book, flipping the page casually as you continue.
“You’ve climbed this tree too many times already for that flower and have gotten hurt each time, Natasha.”
Natasha hums and shakes her head in thought.
“I don’t know. I think I can get it this time.”
Your hands shut your book with a firm thud, giving her a reprimanding look.
“You can’t get injured right before your birthday ball tomorrow. Your mother would kill you.”
You look up at the branches with a sigh.
“Why are you so obsessed with trying to get that flower anyway?” you ask her.
In response, Natasha takes your hand in hers, raising it towards the direction of the flower.
“Did you know it symbolizes everlasting devotion?” she asks before continuing. “They say if you give it to someone when it’s in full bloom, your bond with them will never break.”
Natasha had come across the information accidentally in the library when she was retrieving some books for you.
You chuckle, removing your hand from hers as your fingers move to play with her red hair before tossing a strand at her face and commenting teasingly.
“Such romantic words. No wonder everyone falls for the charming princess so easily.”
Natasha rolls her eyes at your teasing.
“Very funny,” she says, adding, “You already know that I just like the challenge of getting it.”
“You could just shoot the branch down, or ask Kate to do it. Her aim has gotten a lot better,” you suggest.
Natasha shakes her head resolutely in determination.
“No, I want to get it with my own hands.”
A sudden silence follows, making Natasha turn her head to look at you curiously.
You’re not looking at her, instead staring intently at the flowers above.
“Is there someone special you are trying to keep by your side?” you finally ask.
“Not really,” Natasha answers honestly, believing you are referring to the vast amount of courting requests she’s been receiving from the other noble families and other kingdoms. She’s denied most of them so far, not interested in looking for anyone romantically at the moment.
“Plus, I don’t need a flower for that,” Natasha states confidently, adding, “I mean, it’s been years, and I still have you by my side, right?”
You laugh lightly at her words, and Natasha's smile widens at the sound.
“I don’t know. Supporting you all these years has been tiring,” you say exaggeratingly.
Hearing this, Natasha raises a brow and moves to push herself up from your lap to stand.
“Maybe I should get the flower, after all,” she says jokingly.
But suddenly, she’s pushed to the ground with firm hands on her shoulders, and your face appears above hers with a raised brow.
“Stop moving,” you tell her firmly, mirroring that moment years ago.
But this time feels different.
Natasha blinks in surprise, feeling her breath catch as she stares up at you, the sunlight forming a soft glow around your face.
She’d always known you were beautiful, but for some reason, Natasha swears she felt her heart skip for a slight moment just now.
At your expectant look, she wordlessly nods in acknowledgment, unable to find her voice.
You give her a satisfied grin before picking up your book and relaxing back against the trunk of the tree.
Natasha sits up slowly and raises her hand to her chest, gently resting it there as she tries to figure out what that feeling was.
Coming up with nothing, she brushes the thoughts away, shaking her head as she turns to you curiously.
“You’re coming tomorrow, right? To the ball,” she asks.
Your posture deflates as you give her an apologetic look.
“I may have to arrive late. Madam B. wants to review something with me before then.”
Reaching out, you touch her hand, reassuring her. “But I’ll be there.”
Natasha sighs in disappointment, hanging her head.
“I don’t even like these events anymore. They’re more political than celebratory these days.”
You give her a sympathetic look, your thumb caressing the back of her hand comfortingly.
“Well, with your coronation set for next year, you’re going to be even busier with these sorts of things.”
Natasha stares at your hand above hers in contemplation, turning it around to intertwine them together.
“You’ll still support me?” she asks.
You give her a reassuring smile, tightening your grip on her hand.
“I’ve been by your side for this long, Natasha. I’m not leaving anytime soon.”
~~~~~~~ ⧗ ~~~~~~~
It’s been months since you were last by her side, ever since the incident at her birthday ball.
Standing underneath the tree, Natasha stares sadly up at the branches. The scarlet flowers have yet to bloom, still a couple of months away.
With a regretful twist of her lips, she wonders if attempting to retrieve the flower at that time could have prevented this distance between you two from ever happening.
Sighing in disappointment, Natasha hangs her head and turns away, intending to return to the castle. She plans to train some more, hoping to distract herself from thoughts of you.
Unaware that later on this fateful day, an ultimatum will soon be presented to her, one that will eventually bring you back to her side again.
Series Masterlist : Boundless Devotion
a/n: Thank you for reading! I'm still working on the last two chapters of Boundless Devotion, but this ended up being finished first, so I decided it should be fine to post since technically it's a prequel/side story. Also, I’m not sure if those on the main story tag list wanted to be tagged on side stories like this. I’ll do it just in case, but if you don’t, just let me know.
the super seller patch!
Warning: none
Pairings: dad!mafia/gang!steve rogers x wife!reader
-
“Mommy’s gonna make sure you get your patch!” You tell your five-year-old daughter, Elysia, while you fix her blue, decorated vest.
You’re kneeling in front of her small form, silently swooning at how adorable she looked in her uniform. Dressed in her blue beret, matching blue skirt, a white collared shirt, her favorite sneakers, and a white, polka’d fanny pack to store the cash.
She was excited and fidgety as you explained exactly what she would do. But she smiled up at you, her front tooth gone, as she listened to you intently.
“Okay, mommy!”
You stand up after kissing her full cheeks, guiding her to Steve’s office door. She looks back at you one more time, as her tiny fist stands parallel to the door. Eyebrows furrowed in uncertainty.
“Go ahead” you whisper, smiling.
She nods and smiles in return before her knuckles rasp against the wood door.
-
The room's attention is taken by the Jacobean stained door. Steve smirks knowing that knocking pattern anywhere. He couldn’t count on one hand how many times a day he’d hear it on his door. Followed by an “Are you almost free daddy?” while one of his favorite faces poked through the gap.
“Come in” Steve ushers in, a soft smile on his face when his little girl toddles in groaning softly at the weight of the door, but as always she steps in the room.
“Hi daddy!” She bobs on her tippy-toes, causing her pigtails to bounce as she waves her arm at her father (who sits at the head of the table.)
“Hi baby doll, how can I help you?”
“I’m— I’m trying to get my S-super seller patch.”
She tells him everything he needs to hear, smiling at how adorable she looked in her outfit.
“That’s great, baby, go ahead,” he tells her with an elbow set on the table while his bearded chin sits in his palm, watching the heir in her come out as she starts her rounds at the table.
“Hi!” She stops in front of a buff, grumpy man; his hair is pulled back in a bun and the sides shaved. “I’m Elysia, I’m selling cookies to earn my super seller patch, would you like to buy cookies?” She recites, and quickly after pops a smile so her dimples are displayed. She may only be five, but she knew exactly how to work her cuteness to her upper hand.
The man, Wong, holds up his hand and shakes his head softly, “No, thank—“
Steve clears his throat, eyes going flint-eyed towards the new recruit. He still had a lot to learn and this was one of them. Under his rule, Elysia was a princess; if she wanted a piggy back ride you’d agree, if she wanted a tea party you’d agree, and if she wanted you to buy some cookies you’d definitely agree.
“Actually,” he starts, smiling nervously at the Girl Scout and glancing at Mr. Rogers as he takes the clipboard and pen, “I’ll buy 15 trefoils.”
“Thanks!” She beams, taking the clipboard back once he’s finished and stashing the cash in her fanny pack.
She continues, no one has the guts to say no to her and she lights up inside when she’s handed big bill after big bill.
Mr. Laufeyson purchases twenty boxes of Savannah Smiles and three boxes of trefoils. This information causes the sound of snickering to flow in the room.
“What?” He snaps,when he turns his head everyone is quick to hide their smiles and laughter.
“I never would’ve pictured you as a Savannah Smiles guy,” chuckles Mr. Strange.
Mr. Kent purchases forty-five boxes of thin mints. Mr. Wade orders fifteen thin mints and fifteen do-si-dos.
She steps in front of her uncle
“Hi Uncle Sam!”
“Hi Princess, I see you’re selling cookies?”
“Yea, would y’wanna buy some?” She holds out the clipboard, a smile on her face.
“Are you kidding me, hand that over” he smiles, his gap on display. Without a second thought he writes the number 75 next to his name. It didn’t matter what he got, as long as he put a smile on his co-god daughter's face (yes, ‘co’ because Bucky and Sam wouldn’t stop arguing over who her Godfather would be, and you and Steve weren’t sure if you wanted any more kids.)
She takes the clipboard and the cash, eyes blowing wide at the double digit number, “seventy-five!! Thank you so much, Uncle Sam!” Throwing herself into his arms.
“No problem” he smiles, squeezes her, then kisses the top of her head.
She skips her way to her Uncle Bucky.
“Hi Uncle Bucky! I’m selling cookies to earn my super seller patch, would you like to buy cookies?”
“Of course, skipper, I couldn’t leave my goddaughter hanging like that could I?”
By his name he writes the number 80 and hands it and the cash to Elysia. Her eyes grow even wider at the number. There were a lot of things Elysia hadn’t learned at the ripe age of five, but one thing she did was that 80 is larger than 75.
“Eighty! Thank you so much!” She hugs her uncle tightly. Who smiles down at her and kisses her head also.
“Leysia, you mind if I see that clipboard,”
She looks up at him with concern in her eyes, before handing the clipboard over. Before she knows it, he’s handed it back to her. The number seventy-five is crossed out and its place is ninety-five. One thing each man could not stand was being upstaged by the other, especially in front of their goddaughter.
Bucky snatches the clipboard from his hands, taking a pen from the pocket in his suit jacket. Crossed off is the number eighty and its place one-hundred. Sam takes it back quickly writing another, and the cycle continues three more times before they finally call it a truce.
Elysia collects the money with pure giddy, at this rate she’d get way past the super seller patch!
Finally, she trots over to her father who lifts her onto his lap, kisses her cheek before tickling her a little bit as she squirms in her lap giggling.
“Let’s see how well you swindled these chumps,” he jokes, looking over the paper as he calculated the numbers in his head. “295 boxes! All right doll” he nudged her chin with his knuckle. “You’re well on your way past the super seller patch, you might even get the top cookie seller patch,” he grins.
“Really!”
“Really” he answers, “You head back to mom, okay, I’ll see you guys at home later.”
“Okay, see you, love you” she wraps an arm around his neck before kissing his bristly cheek.
“I love you too”
-
He just walked through their bedroom door right when she slipped on her navy, silk nightie.
“You” he points at her then crooks it back and forth.
She sauntered over to him with a meek smile on her face, throwing both arms around his waist.
“Yes,” she answers sweetly.
He had to keep his mind on track, but the smell of her lotion was doing things to him.
“You.” He takes her cheeks in his palms, pulling her in for one kiss, “You are diabolical, you know that?”
“Well” you hum, “You call it diabolical, I call it networking.” You shrug. “She was freaking out over the patch, how much did she end up getting.”
“Two-ninety-five” he grins.
“Awhh, was she happy?” You ask.
“She was ecstatic,” he motions with his hand.
“You’re such a good dad,” you hum, eyes going low as your finger trailed the side of his jaw then over his eyebrow.
“You’re a terrific mom” he responds, leaning so his lips locked with yours. He pulls back, “Is this night ending how I think it will”
“Maybe?” you answer, pecking his chin.
Before you know it, everything is upside down and a stinging pain on your ass.
No power
Warnings: Daddy!Nat, Mommy!Wanda, little!reader, paci use, little space. 18+ MINORS DNI
Description: You’re in the safe house trailer with your caregivers when the power goes out. The sudden feeling of the fan not running wakes and you get scared.
Feel free to join my 18+ discord in the pinned masterlist geared towards marvel and my writing like this!!!!! I don’t bite darlings!
Natasha’s POV:
I put our bags down at the door and kissed Wanda “stay here love, I’m gonna clear the trailer okay?” Wanda nodded as I looked at Y/N in her arms “I’ll be right back little one okay?” Y/N squirmed a little with worry “right back daddy?” I nodded and kissed her head “right back my love” I quickly began to clear the trailer. After it had been cleared I came back. Y/N’s little squeal of excitement melted my heart as she reached for me. I gently took her from Wanda’s arms as she watched me “so were good here?” I nodded “we should have everything we need, our new ID’s are on the counter if you wanna take a look at them” Wanda nodded and headed over to the counter, looking at the cards and laughing. I furrowed my eyebrows while Y/N played with my hand “what’s so funny love?”. Wanda laughed “your names fanny longbottom.”. I rolled my eyes silently curing my friend for being so immature. I leaned over my wife’s shoulder to see the other two ID’s. Of course they received normal names. Gently kissing Wanda’s cheek I whispered “it’s getting pretty late, we should get her some dinner and in bed” Wanda nodded gently and put the documents away, searching through the cabinets and fridge for food. Wanda loved to make food out of random ingredients. I however suck at it and have been scolded a few times when Wanda has called me from a safe house and I was eating spagettios from the can.
Kissing Y/N’s cheek I smiled at her “lets give mommy some space cutie. You wanna watch a movie” Y/N nodded “otay daddy” Smiling I gently tickled her tummy. Little giggles filled the room as she squirmed “daddy that tickles!” I laughed and stopped “you’re so cute love bug” Y/N laid her head on my shoulder as I grabbed her blanket from her bag and her comfort stuffie. Sitting on the couch with her I kissed her head and turned on bluey. Her eyes quickly focused on the TV as I played on my phone.
After twenty more minutes Wanda came in and placed the bowls in front of me. Leaning up I kissed her “looks amazing as always my darling” Wanda blushed. I loved when she blushed. It was so adorable. Sitting down gently she whispered “thank you love” nodding gently Wanda gently kissed Y/N’s head “I gotta get your blanky love bug, we dont want it getting dirty do we?” Y/N pouted slightly and shook her head “No mommy”. Cooing softly I pet her head “it’s alright detka, you’ll get it right back after dinner” Gently pulling her small frame into my lap I began to feed her. Wanda and I talking about our next moves. After dinner I kissed Wanda “I got dishes, you wanna give her her shower?” Wanda nodded and picked up Y/N “come on little stinker”. Y/N giggled as Wanda smothered her face in kisses walking to the bathroom
Wanda’s POV:
I carried Y/N into the bathroom and gently began to help her undress after turning on the shower. She looked at me “bath mommy” folding her clothes to the side I spoke “we don’t have a bath in this house cutie pie” Y/N pouted a little and watched the shower, gently booping her nose I kissed her head “it’s okay princess, mommy’s gonna shower with you” Y/N smiled and nodded as I undressed and I guided Y/N into the shower. A shrill scream sounded through the bathroom as I jumped “jesus!” Y/N squeaked “cold mommy!”. Natasha was standing in the bathroom with her gun drawn, fear flooded her eyes. Quickly calming her I joked a little while nervously laughing “note to self, this shower doesn’t warm up fast and I should check the temp” Nat rolled her eyes, putting her gun in her waistband and looked at Y/N. I pulled her shivering body into me and rubbed her arm as Nat spoke “I’m sorry it was cold baby girl”. She nodded and I watched Nat “I’m sorry love”. She shook her head “you didn’t know darling just be more careful next time. I’m gonna finish up with dishes okay? I love you” I nodded as we exchanged a kiss and she walked off. Looking at Y/N I kissed her head “alright bug lets get you cleaned up”
After getting Y/N all clean I put her in her pajamas and laid her in our bed “time for ni ni sweet girl”. Natasha walked in the room just on time and smiled at Y/N “hi little one”. She reached for Nat. Y/N always loved getting cuddles from Nat at night. Natasha picked her up and cuddled her, cradling her small form in her arms as she whispered to me “can you get me her paci and her stuffie love?” nodding I kissed my wife and headed to her bag.
Natasha’s POV:
I looked back down at little Y/N when Wanda left the room. Her sweet face turned to me as her lips curved into a smile. She never fails to make me melt. Sitting in bed I ran my fingers through her hair “my sleepy baby girl”. Wanda came back in and laid beside us, gently rubbing her knuckle over Y/N’s cheek “open sweet girl”. Y/N happily took the soother in her mouth. Smiling softly at her I ran my finger along her face, calming her body. Within a few minutes her eyes were closed and the sound of light suckles filled the room.
Laying her down Wanda and I both kissed her head and headed to the small living room. I sat down on the couch and opened my arms for my beautiful wife. Wanda sat down beside me and cuddled into my side. Gently rubbing her arm I whispered “you wanna watch a movie?” Wanda nodded and cuddled into me as I pulled out the laptop and found us a movie. Resting her head on my shoulder she focused on the movie. It’s one we had watched a hundred times cause it was downloaded on my computer. It was either this or Moana and if I have to hear the song shiny one more time by that stupid crab I think I’ll just throw my computer. About thirty minutes into the movie the power cut out. The entire trailer went dark. I grumbled a little “fuck” as I kisses Wandas hand “I’ll be back my love okay?” Wanda got up and followed me “I’ll come with to help love”. We both threw on our jackets and headed outside
Y/N’s POV:
I woke up to the absence of the sound of the fan. Sitting up I called out “mommy?”. I got no answer and teared up a little. Why aren’t they answering? Did they leave me here?. Slipping out of bed I found my way through the dark of the trailer. My body shivering from the cold. I walked into the living room and found no one in there. Tearing up a little I played with my blanket “d-daddy? m-mommy?”. Again there was no answer. Looking around it was only pitch black. Walking up to the door it opened just as I got close. Stumbling back I tripped and fell on my butt. I looked up to see Natasha and Wanda standing over me. Wanda gently reached down picking me up “what are you doing out of bed little one?” cuddling into Wanda I cried “I-I woke up a-and chu were g-gone” Nat cooed gently “oh baby girl I’m sorry, mommy and I went to go fix the lights, see?” I nodded into my mommy’s shoulder as Nats knuckle rubbed gently across my cheek, both of their touches quickly calming me. Whatever fear I had simply melted away.
I felt Wanda sink into the couch, her arms holding me close to her as my body shivered. Natasha covered me with my blanket and kissed my head “go back to sleep baby girl, I promise mommy and I will protect you” relaxing into Wanda I gently suckled her collarbone and dozed off. The conversation coming from the computer turned into mumbled words till my ears were only trained to the sound of Wanda’s heart. The steady thumping lulling me to sleep. I never wanted to leave here. My safe place.
The ultimate goal would be to gather all the blorbos together and put them in the same room. And I mean ALL
You bring me the Doctors with the universal translator so Eponine can hang with Elizabeth Bennet & Fanny Price and I want Legolas to meet Benedick from Much Ado about Nothing, not for any particular reason, I just want to know if they'd be friends. I think Marianne Dashwood would love Gilbert Markham and and Jane Eyre needs to have a serious discussion with the second Mrs. De Winter and maybe they could both give some advice to Rosamund from A Long Fatal Love Chase. What do Gandalf and Merlin think of Prospero and Howl? Can Princess Bubblegum do some mad science with Viktor Frankenstein?
The possibilities are literally endless.
As a nurse, you knew the symptoms and you knew it was best to get a second opinion before letting yourself get excited and sharing the news with your wife. So, when your doctor returned with your tests results and a comforting smile, it was no surprise that your eyes began to fill with tears.
"Are you okay Mrs Belova?" your doctor asked, unsure if the news something good or bad. You grabbed a tissue from the box on her desk and wiped your tears while nodding, "I'm just fine" you smiled, "I'm just very happy" you added. Your doctor smiled, "you had me worried for a moment" she chuckled, "go home, tell your wife. I will make a follow up appointment within a few weeks for a check-up and to make sure everything is going smoothly" she added with a smile, you nodded again as you stood from your chair.
"Thank you so much, for everything!" You shook her hand.
"Congratulations" your doctor smiled once more as she shook your hand.
The whole drive home your mind was racing on how you wanted to tell Yelena the news. Getting to this moment wasn't easy and it took a lot of work and time, but you wouldn't change any of it for the world. Opening the door to your home, you were greeted with the smell of a roast dinner and your two dogs running from the living room to greet you.
Fanny and Gizmo wagged their tails like crazy as you greeted them with excitement. Fanny was the first dog you and Yelena adopted while Gizmo was a rescue dog that Yelena brought back from one of her deployments. It took a little time for Gizmo to warm up to you and Fanny, but it's been three years since she was brought home and now she's inseparable from Fanny.
"Mmm" you hummed as you entered the kitchen, "dinner smells amazing" you added as Yelena turned around and smiled before gently pulling you in for a kiss. "I wanted to give you a break from cooking" she replied but something in her tone of voice told you she was hiding something.
"Is that all?" you asked, giving her a soft smile. Her eyes dropped as she ran her tongue over her lips, "I've gotta go back" she admits and just like that, worry took over your once excited mind. "But you just got back" you frowned slightly, wrapping your arms around the back of her neck. Being married to a soldier was never going to be easy, you knew that but when she got back, you knew you'd have some time with her before the next deployment.
"I know, but they need me" Yelena replied, looking into your eyes. You could see she was also disappointed. You kissed her once more while playing with the baby hairs on the back of her neck, "I need to tell you something" you spoke softly not wanting that excitement to fade away so quickly.
"What's wrong?" Yelena asked with worry in her tone. You led her to the dining room and sat across from her, your original plan on how you wanted to tell her the news was no longer a thought. You reached for her hands and smiled softly at her touch. "Baby is everything okay?" she asked, her eyes searching yours for an answer.
"Everything is fine my love, but, when I tell you this, I want you to know I'm telling you because I want too, not because you have to go back, okay?"
Yelena nodded without saying a word, her full attention was on you.
"I wasn't out just now having a coffee with a co-worker" you admitted, your stomach fluttered with nerves. "I was at the doctors; I had a couple of tests done and they all came back positive" you added.
Yelena's eyes shot open and a smile tugged at her lips causing you to smile widely at her as tears filled your eyes once more, "I'm pregnant" the words flew out of your mouth. Yelena jumped from her seat before rushing over to you and picking you up in her arms making you squeal.
"How far along are you?" your wife asked when she gently placed you back on your feet.
"I'm 6 weeks, I just wanted to be 100% sure before I said anything"
"And you're feeling okay? Everything is okay? What did the doctor say?" All these questions came flying out of her mouth making you giggle at her excitement.
"I'm fine, some morning sickness here and there but I'm good, everything is good, we have an appointment for our first ultrasound in 2 weeks"
Yelena sighed, "I won't be here"
You cupped her face gently, placing a kiss on her forehead, "I know baby, but it's okay because I'll get a tape of it and we can watch it over and over when you come home"
Yelena nodded, even though the thought of not being there for the first ultrasound disappointed her, she didn't let that take away the happiness and feeling of joy she was having right now.
----
It's been three months since Yelena was deployed again, the two of you spoke every chance you got, and you updated her on everything about the pregnancy so far. You had decided it was best for you and the baby to step down from your military duties as a nurse and continue to work at the veteran's clinic. The decision also gave Yelena peace of mind that you were safe.
At 12 weeks, Yelena was bursting to tell Nat about the news. You knew the moment she had told her older sister because Natasha would come to see you every day to make sure you were doing okay and if you needed anything. You didn't mind as much because you knew this was how Yelena was able to protect you from anything being so far away.
You were waiting at the airport with your hand gently resting on your 5-month showing bump when Yelena came walking out of the arrivals with the softest smile on her lips. She dropped her bag at her feet and wrapped her arms around you instantly, hugging you tightly but not too tight of course. "I missed you so much!" you whispered while tears of happiness filled your eyes.
Yelena pulled back slightly and wiped your tears before she found both of her hands on your stomach, "I missed you both" she smiled, placing a kiss on your lips, "the webcam didn't do you justice, you're so beautiful" she spoke. You couldn't help but raise a brow, "is that you saying I look bigger in person?" you asked with a playful smirk. Yelena's eyes shot open for a moment as she shook her head, "n-no" she replied before chuckling.
"You're lucky I love you" you jokingly rolled your eyes, "I have a surprise for you and we have about an hour to get there" you added. Yelena looked at you slightly confused, "what have you done?" she asked.
"Well, I asked to push back my last ultrasound until today, I have footage of the others for us to watch tonight but I thought we could found out the sex today, together" you explained.
"You want to know the sex? Are you sure?"
"Yes. Baby, you haven't been able to be there for the others and I want to experience this one with you as our first. I only have you home for a few days before you go back an-" you paused trying to fight back your tears. Since falling pregnant, you've found yourself crying a lot more easily than before. "I w-want you to k-know what we're having in case som-"
"Hey" Yelena pulled you into her chest as she rubbed your back. It was clear now that this was something that had been on your mind for some time and Yelena wasn't sure on how to ease your mind. She placed a kiss on the top of your head before gently making you look up at her, "I'm glad you want to know the sex because I don't think I could wait, even if I wanted too" she said with another soft smile as she wiped your tears once again. "Come on, we don't want to be late" she added before picking up her bag and throwing it over her shoulder.
Yelena's eyes were glued to the small black and white screen as the doctor took down some notes. "That's our baby" Yelena smiled proudly, you brought her hand to your lips, kissing the top of her hand as she watched every movement the unborn baby was doing.
"Would you two like to know the sex?" the doctor looked at you both, the two of you nodded with excitement before the room filled with silence as the doctor doubled checked everything. Yelena squeezed your hand with excitement when the doctor looked at you both again.
"Congratulations, you're having a baby girl" she smiled.
----
Yelena went back for a month while she carried out her duties before requesting time off to be there for you during the remainder of your pregnancy. It wasn't easy for her to get the time off but given how loyal she is to her duties; she was given the time off and a little extra.
You took maternity leave from work and were soaking up the time you now had with your wife, the two of you decorated the nursery, painting the walls in a lavender like purple and Yelena put together the crib while you placed family photos on the walls. Everything was going well until Yelena was called to go back, this time it was urgent but of course, to keep you from worrying she kept that detail to herself.
Now here you were, in the middle of your 8th month of pregnancy waving off your wife while Natasha and Kate stood beside you.
"She'll be home before you know it" Nat spoke in hopes to comfort you, but you shook your head at her words, "you don't know that" you replied before making your way back to the car.
The last few weeks of your pregnancy you thought would be very different, but you found yourself preparing your bag for the hospital alone, getting nervous about giving birth and making sure you everything was ready for when you brought home your daughter. Natasha decided to come stay with you for the remainder of your pregnancy, but it wasn't the same, you wanted your wife, you needed her.
Your water broke around 10:15pm on a Friday night as you were gently rubbing your swollen stomach and talking to your unborn baby about her mama and how much you missed her and wish she was here right now. Natasha took you to the hospital and waited by your side.
"I need to call Lena" you looked to Natasha who nodded, "we'll try her and see if she picks up" she replied as she pulled her phone from her back pocket.
"Natasha, is everything okay?!"
"Y/n wants to talk to you, can you talk?"
"Yeah, of course, put her on"
Nat handed you the phone and stepped out of the room to give you some privacy.
"Lena?"
"Hey darling, I got Natasha's messages, how you are you doing? How's our printsessa?"
"We're okay for now, a few contractions here and there but the midwife says I still have a few centimetres to go before they'll take me to the delivery room. I need to know you're okay, that you're going to come home"
"Baby, I need you to focus on you and our beautiful girl. I'm fine, I'm not going anywhere, okay?"
"I just really need to have you here right now"
"I know baby, I'm here, I promise"
"But you're not Lena! You're over there, you should be here by my side"
"I am darling, I'm going to stay on the phone the whole time & I know it's not the same, I wish I could be there, I'd do anything to be there right now"
Yelena was right, it wasn't the same but knowing you still had her somehow, made things seem just a little better.
----
After hours of labor, your daughter finally came into the world, screaming and healthy. You heard a quiet sob on the other end of the phone when your daughters first cries entered the world, you knew she was just a happy as you were, and you couldn't wait for Yelena to meet her.
Natasha smiled at her sister when she entered the waiting room of the hospital, "about time!" she teased the blonde.
"Getting a flight home was hell, how is she?" Yelena placed her bag on the empty chair besides Natasha.
"She did amazing, she's resting now"
"and th-"
"She's perfect, I haven't seen her yet but the midwife told me she arrived healthy and with a set of lungs" Natasha interrupted her sister. Yelena smiled softly, her original plan was to surprise you and be here just in time for the birth but sometimes things just don't work that way but she was just happy she was here now. "Why haven't you seen her yet?" Yelena asked.
"She deserves to meet her mama first before she meets me and knows that I'm her cool aunt and she won't ever tell you but, I'll be her favourite" she replied with a smirk causing Yelena to raise a brow, "Ha!" she fake chuckled at her sister's joke before the room went silent.
"Well? What are you waiting for? Go!" Natasha gave Yelena a gently push towards the room you were in, "Room 4, I'll be here" she added before sitting back down next to Yelena's bag.
When Yelena entered your room, she couldn't help but smile softly to herself when she saw you fast asleep. She wandered over to you quietly and placed a gentle kiss on your forehead just before a nurse popped her head in.
"Hi, sorry, there's meant to be no visitors" she whispered careful not to wake you. Yelena turned and faced her, "I'm her wife" she replied.
"Oh, I'm sorry" the nurse smiled, "would you like me to bring up the baby? She's due for a feeding an hour" she added. Yelena nodded knowing it was only a moment before she would meet her daughter.
----
Stirring in your sleep, your eyes fluttered awake to the soft sound of a familiar voice. "and that's how I met your mommy. Between you and I, I think I fell in love with her the first time I saw her, but don't tell her that. That's our secret!" Yelena spoke softly with your daughter in her arms looking up at her mama as if she truly understood a single word Yelena was saying.
"I heard that" you smiled at the sight, "You're here" you added as Yelena carefully walked over to you and sitting on the edge of your bed. "I tried to get here in time for you but trying to get a flight wasn't working, I'm sorry" she replied as she looked up at you.
"You're here now and I'm sorry I snapped over the phone"
"Don't be sorry, none of that matters, not now. Not when we have this beautiful girl" Yelena smiled softly once more, "she's so tiny" she added.
"She did not feel that tiny coming out, trust me" you joked as you looked at your daughter falling asleep in Yelena's arms. "Have you made it official yet? Her name?" you asked.
"You sure?" Yelena questioned, you nodded, "I am"
"Well in that case, welcome to the world, Natalia Katherine Belova"
Heyy! Hope you lots are doing well! For this one, lots of fluff with the doctor. 10th discovering his companion can sing (at least decently). Also slipped some barbie tunes in there since it takes place in the 2000’s. Lots of fond memories. If I'm not mistaken, the next one will be a baking weekend with the 11th doctor. well, hope you enjoy.
Warnings : Comfort and fluff on the horizon. Barbie references.
—--------------------------------------------
Today was supposed to be uneventful.
For once, you had hoped to get a little time off on earth, but of course, your best friend had to have other ideas. Fanny had an important meeting for their wedding, and couldn’t take the girls with them. She needed you to play babysitter for the two little blonds.
And there goes your plans to go shopping with the doctor. Even if you were exhausted, you couldn’t turn her down. You were the godmother of the two little monsters after all, and the grandparents were too far from town to be called last minute.
Getting the girl's bag, you finally got out of the car, the two blonds already sprinting for the door.
“Wait up girls, the door’s not even open yet!” Key in hand, you let them in. Without doubt, you could feel this was going to be quite the afternoon.
Phone in hand, you tried to call the Tardis, watching the two kids going off inside the guest room.
“Hello ?”
“Doctor !”
“(Y/N)! What seems to be going on ?” The doctor let out, happy to hear your voice.
“Hum… Two little blond monsters scavenging my house… I am afraid our little afternoon out has to be canceled. Fanny had an important meeting, and I couldn’t say no to babysitting the girls.”
“Meh! The shops can wait, want me to drop by tomorrow morning ?”
“Could you also grab some coffee? I think I will need a lot of that.”
"Of course!"
It wasn’t the first time you had to turn down the doctor on one of your days off for the two little demons. You loved them dearly, and in the end you had always found your day more fun than if you had it alone. But spending less time with the timelord was always a bummer.
“So. Girls… What do you want to do ?”
“Can we play 12th princesses ?”
 “Why am I not surprised ?” You said laughing lightly.
“Please?~” The little girls asked, wanting to put out their little dresses.
“Fine, go change, I’ll grab mine.”
—--------------
And just like that, morning rolled around. You, still covered in glitter as you had played dress up with the two princesses, pretending for there to be a magic portal in the main room.
The floor was still decorated with many floral stickers, all in the right order, as you were sound asleep on the couch. The two girls had been picked up late last night by their mom. You didn’t dare to take a wash before going to sleep, and instead wrapped yourself in the covers of your couch and slept as much as you could, not wanting to be unable to go through the day.
Soon, the whooshing sound of the Tardis, and an excited Doctor, woke you up, making you wonder at first why you were in such a state.
Coffee sent spreaded everywhere as you caught the circular pattern on your floor, and the lovely sand shoes standing on them.
“Well, morning Doctor….-”
“Good morning to you too (Y/N). How was your night with the girls ?”
“I’m sure you can figure this out -” You mentioned looking at the mess the room was in.
For now, all you could think of was getting into a shower as soon as possible and getting rid of the glitter in your hair. “Well, make yourself home, i’ll be back in ten minutes..”
Not waiting for an answer, you barely looked at the doctor. Trying to get out of the mess your legs were trapped in. After struggling a moment, he had offered his assistance to you. But letting out a frustrated sigh you dismissed him, tumbling into your room to pick some new clothes, the covers following close behind.
—--------------
You then went for the shower, still half awake. And as you turned on the shower, you felt every worry slip down the drain. Every sparkle trapped in your hair, finally escaping for the most part. Unforntunatly you knew you would find some on your pillow for the rest of the week.
And as you shampooed your hair, you only could think of that stupid movie the girls had you watch. "Barbie and the 12 dancing princesses". The main theme was still stuck in your head. There weren't any lyrics to it, just the melody. And as silly as it was, you couldn’t help yourself from smiling a bit as you started singing, enjoying the reverberation your shower was giving to your voice.
As you finished showering, taking your towel around you, you twirled, continuing to Derek's tune on the small carpet. And as you opened the door, finally clothed to go on a new adventure, you bumped into the doctor a few steps away from the door.
“Why are you standing there ?” Blush creeps on your cheeks as you realize he might have heard you singing.
“Nothing, admiring your decoration-”
“Against the bathroom door ?” You almost wanted to laugh at the awkwardness he found himself in.
“Now you’re making this sound a lot creepier than it needs to be.”
“It is!~” You mentioned in an exaggerated whisper. Passing by him, you took the coffee he had put on the counter, and directed yourself to the Tardis, the doctor following soon after.
“How come I didn’t know you could sing ?” The brunette asked while putting in the new destination.
“Because you never asked ?” Now you were even more embarrassed. You could sing decently, sure, you would have hoped that by this time in your many lives, you would have caught some tricks to pass as okay. But the Doctor seemed genuinely surprised by your talent.
Looking more into it, you could see there was something more, something he wasn’t sure he wanted to say.
“Something on your mind Doctor ?” You asked him in a softer tone.
“Do you think you could sing more often in the Tardis ?” The doctor feared for you to reject the proposition. It was in your very right to not do so. But the more he stayed in silence, the more his thoughts got loud. Even the radio wasn’t doing the trick anymore.
“I-I mean. If you're not bothered by it, I don’t see why not…” And finally, a beautiful smile brightened his face. As if something was just leafed from his shoulders.
“Brilliant! So, where to? Past? Future? New planet ?”
“How about the 20th century? Edwardian Era?”
“Allons-y!” He let out pulling the levers, you giving him a hand on the ones he couldn’t reach.
—--------------
And from this point on, you weren’t afraid to sing louder for him to hear, knowing it was something he appreciated. When in the mood he would even join you in your antics, sometimes, leading both of you to dance around the room, for it to be silly or plainly in each other's arms.
The tension built more and more, to the point both of you couldn’t help it. And you were becoming more and more in love with the man, your heart jumping every time he held you so close to both of his hearts.
You were becoming a mess when his hands reached for your waist, making you forget the lyrics to the songs you could sing by heart. It couldn’t have been more obvious, still, the Doctor doubted you felt the same, merely noting that some things made a small blush creep on your cheeks. He had supposed it was only shyness when infact it was him who was making you a blushing mess.
How thick the both of you were. Donna would probably have had both your head to not have said anything.
