The way every single time there's a media with a child of color who tries to act older than they are as a trauma response there's countless people in it's fandom desperate to prove they don't 'count' as a kid because of that coping mechanism..........Katara from Atla gets treated as a mom figure to her male love interest who she has a literal two year age difference with and shipped off with the designated 'hot older bad boy' because he's the more 'realistic' choice as if she didn't deadass hate his ass except for like the last five episodes,Damian from DC is constantly thrown verbal abuse by the fandom with the most common one being that he 'deserves to get beat up' for daring to have a big ego after being raised as a paragon instead of a person,Momo from Bnha got assigned the 'class mom' when it's an actual plot point that being adultified gives her anxiety attacks because of how much it's happened to her-Starting with her own fucking parents-and Allura from Vld and Hobie from Spiderverse are straight up said to actually be grown despite having romances with characters who're explicitly teenagers and nobody in-universe saying there's an age difference AND when they've been framed as being in the same category as them since the beginning.You people genuinely hate kids of color so much you don't even want them existing in fucking cartoons.Y'all are so foul and for what

Antishipping and proshipping were literally coined in the Voltron fandom by the people who thought shipping Shiro with the other Paladins was weird. It comes from anti-Shaladin and pro-Shaladin.

Voltron completely changed shipping discourse. It was completely different before Voltron.

Okay and here's some serious rant.

First of all, THIS IS NOT AN ANTI POST. So if you're anti shaladin and want to use this crossover as the argument for your hate just go away and block me.

I know that here Keith and Shiro are portrayed as literal brothers but heck that wasn’t the main reason why I made this au. There’s one thing I love the original Frozen movie for – they showed us the strength of non-romantic love, they showed us how it can be even stronger. That’s not only the love of actual siblings, it can be love of friends, love of parents or of people you’re close to.

I was always amazed by the bond Keith and Shiro have, by their unconditional love to each other. I never saw them as blood related because they’re more than just it. Their bond was never forced with blood and that’s why it’s even stronger. It’s just something I personally can relate to.

You know when I joined the fandom I was so happy to know that hashtag “broganes’ exist. And after that I was extremely disappointed because haters turned the concept of familial and platonic love between two friends into the argument to spread hate and shame artists and vld crew. That’s so fuckin sad and even Despacito can’t help it.

I hate that you can’t tag it or just call them brothers without being mistaken for an anti. I hate that Sheithers need to hide and suffer from people who can’t deal with another opinion. I hate that in Sheith community concept of broganes was turned into the feature of haters. I’m a shaladin myself as you see and I understand this reaction. But this needs to stop. We’re in the same boat at least – we both appreciate the bond of these two just in different ways. As for me I adore their platonic bond too much to perceive it as romantic. I just can’t see them as lovers in canon at all.

I read some metas tbh and saw all the drawings (which are really great) but every time when it comes to them doing classic romantic things (like kissing) it just seems too out of character for me. And believe me I will never attack shippers just because they are all good and nice people, talented artists and writers and I’m honestly glad they do what makes them happy. That’s the sense of art actually. We’re all people with different opinions and there’s nothing wrong with it.

I think the reason why I can’t see them as lovers is because their bond is something I have in my personal life. There’s a girl I never wanted to be with as a lover, but she’s literally everything for me. We’re miles apart but in the same time we’re closer than anyone else. I would go to the edge of the universe for her, I would change the fate to make her happy, I would be ready to die for her. We’re together for a really long time and we talk every day 24/7. We can’t live quietly without each other more than two days. And we say “I love you” to each other, we’re always here for one another to help. Without her I would be another person. I literally said “I love you” to her when we were arguing to make her stop, to express all my feelings for her. And she stopped. Sounds familiar huh?

That’s why Shiro/Keith bond for me lies much deeper than just romantic things. This is something very personal and important for me. I just wanted to say – platonic bond like this exists and it’s more than romance and just friendship. And I think it should be appreciated more. That’s why I want to dedicate this post to Her. Teo, though we don’t share the same blood, you’re my sister and I love you.

The goal of this post is to erase at least for a bit the tension between Sheith and Broganes and to show that there’re people who appreciate this bond not less than shippers, that by saying “platonic” you can not mean something associated with hate and you don’t want to make this bond less stronger than it is. It’s just another version of it.

I want Sheith shippers to know these people exist. I want to cut the connection of this pure love with people who spread the hate and negativity. We all can leave in peace and enjoy this bond in our own way maybe even share some headcanons with each other. At least it’s all about these two guys and their unconditional love full of support and care and it should be treated just with positivity whether you want them to fall in love or be brothers in arms and always support each other.

P.S And yeah I know about Adam but dudes I started to make this earlier than spoilers appeared and even if I knew about it I wouldn’t change the choice because holy shit I love Kristoff-Pidge too much.

Actually lemme revert back to my Voltron days for a sec because i got rage.I got into the show the same time season 3 came out and the Lance x Allura development immediately stole my heart because why wouldn't it?It was the first time i saw people like me as a couple onscreen,by which i mean i'm a mixed latino like Lance-and we're even both carribean since he's cuban and i'm dominican!!!-and a black woman like Allura,and it was such a well-written ship to boot that gave me a good example of what i deserved to be treated like by my s/o and raised my standards for romance both fictional and for my own future(and current)dating life and it meant the world to me and i think it always will.And y'know what?Yes,Allura's death hurt a LOT and it still does sometimes but by now i've learned the sad truth that this is the norm for canon bw

The thing that REALLY sets me off?The fandom's response to them.Nonstop,i'd see 'Allura and Lance are such siblings!!!' 'Omg i'm so glad Lance is finally over Allura XD' 'I really hope Allurance isn't endgame afterall' and it was infuriating back then for the obvious people hating on my otp reason but i've realized that it was literally misogynoir.White and loads of nonblack Vee El Dee fans just couldn't stand that their precious Lancey boy genuinely loved the darkskin black girl mc with no ill-intentions and grew out of any bad habits towards her in season 3 of an 8 SEASON SHOW so that meant we were getting black4brown rep instead of sanitized twink tsunderes and they're STILL AT IT with the Le///akira desperation

But nah nah,y'all 'Space Mom and Dad' allegation makers ain't getting out of this!Allura was a GIRL,Shiro was a MAN-a GAY MAN FFS!!!Their season 1 dynamic was very clearly that of a tired dad and his rebellious teen daughter and all the 'baiting' you saw was you inserting your straight woman feminism fantasies onto them-Again,WOMAN,when Allura was an entire 17 year old and Shiro was in his mid-20s!You're literally the same as people who ship him with Pidge or even worse because there's an added layer of perpetuating the long history of adultification and by extension dehumanization of black children.Sit your tenheadasses down,it's not racist or misogynistic that people think you're gross and weird for infantalizing and straightwashing a canon gay japanese man

This isn't meant to be directed at the post I just reblogged (it was pretty chill with just bad framing at the start) as much as commenting on the phenomenon as a whole

But people need to stop coming into discussions they think are entirely about fandom and say we're idiots because they have a secret third solution -- not making it only about fandom and not using the terms used in the fandom centric conversation

Like

Okay yeah sure there's a problem with people stealing people's food in the fridge at work, we call 'em fridge thieves and I'm pretty anti-fridge theif myself. Oh what? You're not pro or anti fridge thief? You're a secret third thing that hates when anyone steals from anyone? And you don't have a name because you don't need one, unlike those silly anti-fridge theives? That you brought up yourself and act like there's no overlap in people who steal from fridges and people who steal from other individuals in general?

Listen it's a dumb metaphor but that's what I had off the top of my head without trying to compare it to like other serious topics I know less about than anti-kink/censorship

I've talked a lot on this blog about how I'm not really a fan of the proship label anymore and part of it is to do with how it's so fandom-centric, but it's also partly because no one outside of fandom takes us seriously once they see the label.

It's just frustrating for people to come into our spaces and then say we're all idiots for relying on a dichotomy with no like... Solution? No follow up except how better it is to not have labels? Like okay sure you can critique a thing without having a solution but this isn't coming from inside the house, this is other people, looking in, and saying "I don't like how y'all are doing this."

It is very hard to create taboo or even slightly spicy content in fandom spaces and engage with those spaces without having to contend with the proship/anti label. If you want to have a community here, maybe even if you don't create or enjoy that sort of thing, the proship/anti fight is inescapable. You will be labeled as one or the other. And that's an issue! It's an issue people are talking about within and without the space, but those on the outside... Like I said, they're treating us like we're idiots for not having solved this as though fandom spaces are a vacuum

You know what I saw a lot of right around the time this anti shit was kicking up? Anti-kink, especially anti-ddlg/agere. Anti-kink and Anti-ship spaces' venn diagram is practically a circle. They fed into each other

Age gap in shaladin shipping is bad

Agere for kink reasons is bad

This ship is basically incest and bad

Incest play is bad

The only reason you could like reylo is if you want to be abused

The only reason you could like bdsm is if you want to be abused

They were happening at the same time, but non-fandom spaces didn't pay attention to us and still aren't and so this proship/anti discourse has festered and any time we try to address it on a wider scale we get told that it's a stupid dichotomy and we need to get rid of labels all together instead of actually addressing what we're dealing with

Because people have tried to add nuance, make definitions, add new labels that meant slightly different things, and none of it has stuck. Not that you'd know, because you don't actually give a shit about what's happening in fandom spaces, right?

I'm sorry this is so aggressive but people are literally dying because of fandom harassment but you want to focus on how our dichotomy is bad instead of listening to us and helping us

You want us to stop using proship and anti? Then fucking engage with us! Work with us! Teach us if you really know so much more! Stop looking down your nose at dumb fandom problems then wonder why these young anti-kink people keep popping up and festering
