I thought
I was used
to being alone,
but the dark came alive
when I first met you.
The moments we shared
meant more than the stars,
love flamed in my eyes
right from the start.
I never knew
I was playing with fire,
until it was too late
and I lost you
to the night.
I believed you could fill
the emptiness inside
but you were a dream,
a mirage
of illusion and desire.

Finally
Finally
I waited too long to ask. My heart wasn’t up to the task. Afraid of what it might feel. Would I ever heal.
Finally I got up the courage. I resolved not to be discouraged. I found her across the miles. I steadied myself to meet the awaiting trials.
Her smile was inviting as ever. I knew that it was now or never. I had prepared myself for the worse. I strove to be open, honest, and terse.
She smiled softly with understanding. As if she knew my heart’s love longstanding. Her words were sweet and gentle as ever they were. I left free of the burden I long carried for her.
It may not have been the answer I wished. But in the end once again we kissed. I left serenely, finally the answer I knew. And the sky is still blue.

All roads lead back to you
down soft evening paths
speckled in blazing pinks
of early spring
footprints embrace shallow eddies
reflecting our harvest moon's dance
along an emerald shoreline
how sincere your steel-eyed glance
catching my breath
drawing constellations
across my tanned skin
you touch feelings
beneath my skin
and peonies erupt
in a blush of wonder
you know my thoughts
before their petals
find shape to express
their knowing
you call me into
your deep-scented
chestnut voice
pulling me
intoxicating the supple
curves of my heart
until miles meld
into moments
roads direct my path
on a journey I've sensed
since time's beginning
every intention bridging
the distance
as all roads lead
inevitably to you

Strange Whispers.
-----------------------
There are secrets waiting in this ghostly place,
A hint, a clue, the faintest trace,
Of happenings, of lives before,
Of secrets buried, beneath the floor.
-----------------------
Hear the voices in the cobwebbed halls,
The wandering spirit's, whispered calls,
Repeating tales of grief and woe,
Tragedies, from so long ago.
-----------------------
Ancient lives, lived in brick and stone,
The ghosts of those who died alone,
The very walls have tales to tell,
From the attic dust, to the basement well.
------------------------
To the silence, you must lend your ear,
If of these ghosts, you wish to hear,
And sometimes, when the night is still,
Your heart will feel, their ghostly chill.
------------------------

For when the mind is foggy, and the heart is weighted with the anchors of the past, a shattering breezing will sweep you away into the streams of lives once lived. Float for awhile, but let one not linger too long, for serenity is ahead, not where thee resides.

sacred nights, silent windchimes, leaves groaned under our restless footsteps, words milked from the skylines. our minds wandered, into each others’, like playful children breaking curfews. this night — it allowed them to.

“that’s her and my special spot,”  you smiled, bittersweetness in your eyes. you talked about your past and your pain, and i looked on with some curiosity, but more admiration. i remember playing with a stick, and the sand beneath my feet, then without a warning, your bigger face was buried in  my smaller shoulders.
/
affections dripped like dew, subtly glistening, newborn broken waves from the man-made pond, sleepy trees, lazy canopies lull us out of reality. for now i’ll be your accomplice.  warm bodies sat atop benches, warmer hearts seeking shelter.

Too much love
What will you say when the time comes To feel too much love
What will you say when the time comes In the morning and you’re so boring And ignoring nature comets god And everything
What will you say when the time comes And you have no memories To keep you up At night
What will you say when the time comes And you can’t see what You can’t see
What will you say when the time comes And you have in your heart too much Sadness and you can’t remember Your husband your children Your address and how Old you are
What will you say when the time comes To feel too much love

Giving Up
I gave you up today,
changed the song and walked away,
there isn't anymore to say,
so why does it hurt this way?

those who look
find stars
everywhere,
they line our paths,
they’re alive in the veins
that pump the blood
to our hearts,
they influence our stories,
our songs & our art,
they speak to us
in our dreams,
appear each night
with so much to say,
but only some of us
understand,
that all of us hold pieces
of the stars that stayed.

It’s Been...
It’s Been...
It has only been a week since we played the last card I didn’t think it would be this hard to start again without you. I can’t begin to say how I miss you. It’s been a month now since we parted and I feel so brokenhearted and I realize how much you meant to me. if only I had opened my heart for you to see.
It’s been a year since that fateful day I still see, hear and feel you as I wipe the tears away Oh how I wish I could go back in time. If only I had surrendered all to make you mine.
It’s been 40 years since our love was lost The tears still blur memories treasured, and the cost and yet my heart longs to have you here. If only for a moment I would give my life to again call you dear.

you follow pebbled paths
to my heart's destination
how I feel your presence
through worshipping
hands and eyes divine
which penetrate my soul
as the constellations
brilliant in their heated silence
peering through my window
I feel your intimacy
wedded to my dreams
and my heart pulses
with our memories
captured in the scripture
of stars dusting the night
with every encounter
our souls have felt
in histories long expressed
and again renewed
within the bloom of this time's
early blush of crimson ripening
into fragrant skies

The words that were loud but forgot to leave her lips,
The home that was shattered but refused to break,
The tears that were spilling but remained unshed,
The heart that was fragile but refused to stop beating,
The storm that was traumatic but could not take over,
The tongue that was tied but denied going mute,
The girl that was losing life but did not surrender.
-The unspoken, unseen
