people always act like there’s such a hard line between “psychotic person” and “normal person”, and I feel like that plays a lot into the dehumanization psychotic people face. cause once a nonpsychotic person internalizes this logic, suddenly we’re attractions and interesting and a fun research subject cause we’re just so fucking other that we become wholly unrelatable. for the nonpsychotic person, it’s unimaginable what psychosis must “really” feel like. so they treat us like a fictional species just trying to understand our existence. and they don’t worry about how their actions might affect us any more than they’d worry about insulting a vulcan by calling the vulcan thought process “just so interesting!”.
but in reality.... the difference between a psychotic person and a nonpsychotic person is not so stark. all human brains are prone to psychosis. all humans are capable of experiencing psychosis in one way or another. anyone could develop a full blown psychotic disorder at any time, no one is born immune to this. and while there’s some contexts in which it’s necessary to differentiate who does or doesn’t experience these symptoms of course, largely I think nonpsychotic people are doing themselves a disfavor - and being ableist in the process - by ignoring the hard truth of the matter: us psychotic people are exactly the same as them.

GOD i wish schizospecs could do literally any unmasking without risking going to a ward or worse. i feel like the only place i can actually express what my reality is like is online, and even then there's always the risk of someone trying to aggravate my symptoms.

being mentally ill while holding a tiny plush pigeon is infinitely better than being mentally ill alone. i definitely recommend just getting yourself a little guy to hold while you're busy being crazy

Hey guys! I noticed there are pretty much no cute psychosis awareness stickers in existence, so I made a couple. I chose dandelions because IMO they are a very resilient, beautiful flower that are often misunderstood and hated <3
Hope you enjoy.
You can buy the wildflower/ribbon one here and the brain one here.

Ppl who have issues with hygiene ily. Ppl who cant brush theyre teeth regularly. Ppl who dont shower for months. Ppl who wear the same clothes for days.
If all u can do is brush or shower once every few weeks or months ily. If all you can do is change into a different pair of pajama pants today ily. Or if you cant do any of it ily.
Ik ppl will be like “its not healthy to spread positivity now my teeth are rotting bc I didnt care” which I understand to some extent for some ppl but no amount of scaring me about how my teeth health will suffer is going to make me do it more, my brain quite literally can’t foresee the positive outcomes and will refuse to make it a daily habit no matter how much its barked at me over and over.
Sometimes its not something that can be helped. And its not bc I dont care or i like being disgusting or dont understand the risks I literally just cant.

life stressors are a huge contributing factor in psychotic and or symptom breaks in general. life stressors include
death of a family member or close loved one
moving into a new home
sickness illness injury
divorce
incarceration
leaving or being fired/laid off from a job
unemployment
abuse and or DV
money deficiency
those are just some of the examples that life can throw at you causing immense stress and triggering psychotic symptoms and even mood disturbances as well. it’s very important to know your triggers so once and or if the psychosis comes back there’s a safety plan in place for you and or a loved one.
it’s believed that 70% of those with sz spectrum disorders are likely to have a second psychotic disorder relapse within 5-7 years.
so in a sense it is imperative those who happen to have or suspect to have sz or related disorders have a safety plan with triggers stated and warning signs of when and how and why a psychotic episode could occur.

Hey, if you're just getting back into reading after a long period of depression, or psychosis, or whatever's got your brain turned to mush, don't be ashamed to start with smaller, simpler things. Don't be ashamed to read graphic novels, or fanfiction, or even children's novels. Try re-reading a book you enjoyed when you were a kid. You don't have to delve straight into academic literature or The Classics(tm) and honestly, it's okay if you never do. At least you're reading.
Building up the ability to read again takes time, and it takes effort, consistent effort. And mental illness (and sometimes, physical illness) really fucks with your ability to concentrate and retain information. But... it's a muscle you can rebuild.
You can do this. It took me months to finish my first simple book. And I'm still not where I used to be. But I've made a lot of progress, and I think you can too. Be gentle with yourself, and don't let the naysayers get you down. Whatever you're reading, as long as you're reading, is good.

shoutout to everyone with a complicated or negative relationship to antipsychotics. to everyone who’s “noncompliant”. to everyone who’s on them due to force or coercion. to everyone who’s on them because they’re afraid of not being. to everyone who’s going through withdrawal without medical supervision & against medical advice. to everyone who hates the side effects but still prefers them to being unmedicated. to everyone who dislikes them for “disordered” reasons. to the people on them who don’t think they need them & the people off them who think they do. to everyone who doesn’t like them but does better at school or work on them & to everyone who likes them but does better without them. to everyone who gets them on they grey market. to everyone who self-medicates with illegal drugs instead. to everyone with medical/psychiatric trauma. to everyone refusing to go to doctors (even if they would be helpful with other things) because they don’t want to be put on antipsychotics. I see you & im here with you. no matter what your diagnosis is you deserve bodily autonomy.

please dont "reality check" strangers. it can be helpful and grounding if its a close friend and youve discussed it beforehand, but you could seriously hurt someone trying to "snap them out of it". psychosis doesnt work like a tv show.

look idk who on Goddess' green Earth decided ableism towards the severely mentally ill was cute but it needs to stop
looking at u "delulu" girlies*
*also schizoposting/lobotomycore girlies and "I'm in your walls" bros and all u other sadistic creeps. (also the oldest and most ingrained in society which is still kind of a bad and lazy excuse for ableism: "that's psychotic" as negative) all of u just go straight to jail and don't pass go. and don't come out till you've thought about your actions and decided to treat disabled folks better
