My favorite part about being an OSDD system and a psychology major is
1. Explaining systems to other psych majors and then telling them I'm a system and they just... Immediate jaw drop in shock and then tense up all scared to ask questions lol
2. Seeing my professors always skim over dissociation, amnesia, and dissociative disorders 🫠
3. Outing myself as a system to my class and professors with pretty much no judgement because everyone just trauma dumps in class!!
4. That one time I had to email my prof with resources and research about dissociative disorders because her presentation was SO OUTDATED and borderline fake claiming. It triggered me so badly 😭 She was very professional with me tho and nice about it and I hope she changed her presentation 👍
You ever just get the urge to conduct a research project examining how a person's current fandom or hyperfixation at any given time may or may not reveal the state of their mental and emotional health
all the things that you’re passionate about are cool because you’re passionate about them. talk about them as much as you’d like. they matter to you. and things that matter to you will also matter to people who care about you :)
Me: hanging upside down off the couch crocheting another carnation while rambling about Kohlberg's theory of moral development and theorizing how Arthur and John might respond to Heinzs dilemma
My roommate who asked how my essay was going and is trying to procrastinate on his homework: tell me more
Some of you may know I’m a psychology major, and currently I’m doing a study on how noise sensitivity and learning styles may or may not predict academic performance in undergraduate college students! This is to fulfill some requirements to earn my degree, and in order for this study to be successful, I need at least 107 participants. If any of you who are undergraduate college students are interested in participating, all it is is taking a survey to assess your noise sensitivity level, learning style, and academic performance level. No personal information is collected, there is an option to have your email recorded if you want to be entered in a drawing for 1 of 4 $25 Amazon gift cards as a thank you for participating, but this is by no means required :)
I would really appreciate it if any of you would consider taking the survey, and I will post the link to it in a few weeks when I have IRB approval to launch the study! This is completely voluntary participation and please do not feel obligated to participate, only if you want to!
Oh my god my fellow psych majors need to pull their heads out of their asses
Being a psych major is not the same as being a professional in the psych field. You are still studying to be one, you do not have your degree yet.
Being a psych major does not mean you know as much as, let alone better than, the actual professionals.
Being a psych major does not mean you are a specialist who is an authority on any specific disorder. Hell, having a degree does not even mean that. Unless you are an actual specialist, you do not know better than the people who specialize in that disorder.
Being a psych major does not make you an authority on what people have going on in their brains. You are not a professional yet.
Being a psych major does not mean you are automatically right on anything psychology related. There is a reason you do not have a degree yet.
Psych majors cannot determine who has what disorders. You are not licensed to make a diagnosis, because you are still a student, not a professional.
You cannot know what is going on in a strangers brain just because you major in psych. Even licensed professionals cannot do that. No matter how long they studied, or have been working in psych. There is a reason the diagnostic process for most disorders takes so long. So you, as someone who does not even have a degree yet, definitely cannot make that call where professionals cannot.
And, most importantly, being a psych major does NOT give you a free pass to be an asshole to mentally ill people. In fact, the opposite, really. People like them are the exact type of person you will be treating once you get your degree. Mentally ill people like that entrust psych professionals with their wellbeing. If you cannot be decent to mentally ill people that you do not even know, you should not be treating their mental health.
no, because really, is a child not making eye contact with you such a crime?? is them not noticing you're there blasphemous? because at that point, it's clear the issue is that they aren't doing what YOU want, expect and are comfortable with/used to
