It was my pleasure to virtually visit Joanna Pikramenos' 6th grade class at Divine Wisdom Catholic Academy last week and answer questions about my literary career. The children had insightful queries: they all have bright futures whether they want to pursue a literary path or not!
If you want to ask your own questions, I'll be holding an event this Sunday December 3rd at 2pm at Bryant Library in beautiful Roslyn, NY on the North Shore of Long Island, just a little past Queens.
Feel free to bring family and friends. All are welcome: the event is free, space is plentiful, the library is the oldest continuously running library in Nassau County.

Human resources and Economic flourishing
In the context of the ongoing economic crisis caused by the conflict between Russia and Ukraine, I thought I want to share my point of view about the situation and how a certain country can stand against the disadvantages of such problem, of any kind of crisis and all what comes with it of economic hardships. Digging into this subject, I will break down the topic into three important parts that turn around the human resources, considering they are the ones with the biggest potential to change things: Basic needs, desire control and scientific research.
To empower a country's economics, humans need first to survive, and that's by affording their vital needs from good nutrition to appropriate education. We are physically weak creatures, spending few days without having a source of drinkable water and eatable food can bring so much harm to our physical and mental health, that's if it didn't kill us. A good health service and social security are also very important, because if missing, that would bring humans to the same previous consequences. And finally, a life component that I think is as much vital is education, if not educated we would live like animals in a forest, the strongest physically gets it all, as Nelson Mandela said: '' Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world''.
All these survival components match to economic development in the way that the countries, mostly those they belong to the third world, struggle only with such basic things, which actually prevents them from thinking of their own home's economic improvement and fixing.
To proceed, We are creatures that never get satisfied, we always wish for a better life, and our desires fulfillment can play for and against us. A lot of scientific researches proved for example that practicing sports have a positive impact on one's intellectual and physical capacities, according to Harvard University :''Exercise improves mood and sleep, and reduces stress and anxiety'', and that's by controlling hormones and chemicals in the brain. In the other hand, stopping the human beings from satisfying some of their own cravings or necessities improve their adapting capacities, according to Oxford University, creativity is related to effective problem solving and adaptability.
Improving the skills of thinking and creativity are a key component to economic flourishing, because it's the tool by which people think of new marketing strategies for example.
To finish, scientific research is a sign of economic blossom, take for example the United States of America, one of the strongest economies of the world, this one has the most noble prizes, she has about 400, ranking first in the world. Research is a very effective way to boost the economy, considering it is the meeting point of different fields, take for example building an advertisement, we need to be provided by the latest technology, engineering, psychological theories... To create an impacting publication for the viewers.
With that being said, the government has to take in consideration offering tools and atmospheres to enable scientific learning.
To sum up, the best investment a country can bring to its economy is giving humans biological necessities, a balanced fulfillment of desires and tools to open up about knowledge and what science hides of wonderful secrets.

Core Development Toastmasters Open House!
Hello everyone!
I mentioned in my 2022 blog post that I am a Toastmaster! What does that mean exactly? Well, back in 2021 I joined this club, Core Development, as a club coach to help the club not only improve as a club, but also to help motivate its members to continue to learn important public speaking and leadership skills as well! I was already a Toastmaster for a year before that and I had joined to learn how to communicate better, build up my self-confidence, and meet new friends. Since then, I have developed all of these things and more!
In fact, for this particular meeting, I will be leading and chairing the entire event! We are all sharing how much Toastmasters can help you develop more confidence, make new friends, feel comfortable speaking in front of others, and so so much more.
If you want to be able to speak to others more effectively and feel more confident in yourself, this is the perfect opportunity to come on by and see how we can help you. We all started off anxious, scared, confused, and lonely...now we like to share extravagant stories, laugh with each other, and support each other with these goals and more.
Come learn from our little community and feel better with your self-confidence, communication skills, and more!

Cheers to the close of a successful 2022! As another year comes to an end, I realize I haven’t done a very good job of either reflecting on milestones or sharing adventures on here lately. But in the end, it feels rewarding to look back on a year and say, “PHEW,” and also “thanks” — to both community and life itself — for all the adventures experienced and lessons learned.
Below are the 2022 accomplishments of which I’m particularly proud. This year, I:
— Produced all the main stage programming and anthem video content for YouTube’s EduCon conference in NYC, welcoming hundreds of high-profile learning channels from around the world to share collaboration and inspiration through our live event program (including via a closing keynote from Neil deGrasse Tyson).
— Completed assignments as a filmmaker, photographer, and social media content producer in places as far-flung as Mongolia and Belize, and as near-to-home as New England and the Pacific Northwest, e.g.: https://bit.ly/MongoliaSlideshow.
— Wrote and published somewhere between 10-20 globe-spanning articles for clients such as AFAR covering destinations like the Maldives, Oman, Spain, UAE, Thailand, Vietnam, France, Puerto Rico, Germany, and the U.S. (https://rachelrudwall.contently.com/).
— Completed 30+ live or live-to-tape media hits as an on-air travel expert for news outlets across the country, e.g.: https://bit.ly/WKYCPlanForVacationDay.
— Privately coached 10 new consulting clients ranging from award-winning CEOs to media pros with millions of subscribers, covering topics such as public speaking, brand-building, and TV series production (rachelroams.com/consulting).
— Engaged in numerous public speaking engagements both IRL and virtually, including at my favorite event each year, Women’s Travel Fest (https://womenstravelfest.com/).
— Became a published author thanks to the inspiring team behind Wanderess and their invitation to write for the book (https://bit.ly/WanderessBook).
— Crafted custom influencer/KOL content for brand clients that span the worlds of travel, tourism, fashion, lifestyle, and government (https://bit.ly/MongoliaPOVReel).
— Connected with fellow storytellers as a podcast and blog guest, including for Adorama’s 42 West Blog (https://bit.ly/RR42West) and Nora Dunn’s The Professional Hobo (https://bit.ly/RRProHobo).
— Volunteered for the second year running as a Board Member for Ecology in Classrooms and Outdoors (https://www.ecologyoutdoors.org/).
— Completed another year as a USA for UNHCR Refugee Champion, and learned that my short film about a Syrian refugee family resettled in WA now lives on in an impactful story map (https://bit.ly/U4UStoryMap).
— Led monthly financial education sessions for women professionals for the fourth year in a row.
— Enjoyed personal trips through Italy, the Netherlands, California, Utah, Washington, and Oregon (including my baby’s first camping trip, complete with a multi-mile, pitch-black cave hike!).
— Snowshoed, hiked, and traipsed outdoors for what feels like countless miles (though, my Apple Watch tells me my daily average mile count is around four… so, I guess the total is just shy of 1500 miles?).
— Completed nearly 100 OrangeTheory workouts.
— And did all of that while raising a new baby and learning how to become a parent.
PHEW. What a joyful, expansive year it has been. I can’t wait to see what the next year has in store.
Thanks to each of you for sharing in the journey!

My Key to Overcoming Public Speaking and Oral Presentations
Going into college, the one thing one dreaded was oral presentations or any kind of public speaking. I often found myself filled so much anxiety that I would chicken out or not to be prepared when the time came to actually present.
Recently, I had to give an oral presentation on a proposal paper in my English composition class. Like always, I let my anxiety cloud my thoughts and I had nothing prepared when the time came. I went up to the podium with just the printed copy of my essay. I had absolutely no notes, had no clue what I was going to say.
I gave the presentation and ended it with the thought that I had completely messed it all up. I had NO expectations that I was going to get anything more than a D on this assignment. While I was disappointed to say the least, I somehow managed to get a 45/50 on the assignment: meaning I passed with an A-
What I did to overcome that unnerving feeling when presenting is what I do every time I have to go up and speak in front of a class and completely wing it.
Here are some tips to overcoming your fear when speaking to a group of people:
-Think of your comfort person. I like to imagine my mom and dad in the room when I am presenting. They are supportive of everything I do and it helps to think of them.
-BE PREPARED. Write down important notes, think of the exact point you want your audience to take away.
-Be confident! Confidence is key, don't make people aware that you're nervous. Who knows if you faking the confidence will help someone else when it is their turn to speak.
-Pretend like the audience is a group of employees and you're the boss. Appearing in control of your message is key!
-Don't sound rehearsed or robotic. You want your message to come across as genuine and sometimes showing emotion is the key to grabbing the attention of the audience.
