Goblinweek 2022 - 6: das Küchlein

In ganz Mitteleuropa sind Sagen von Nachbarn, die einen Kobold als Hausgeist haben, sehr verbreitet. Hier ist die Variante aus Böhmen und Mähren:

Wenn man das erste Ei einer schwarzen Henne neun Tag lang unter dem Arme trägt, so schlüpft ein Küchlein aus, das ist ein Kobold (hospodařiček oder šotek), der den Menschen durchs ganze Leben begleitet, seine Saaten beschützt und fruchtbar macht und niemals Mangel ins Haus kommen läßt. Ein Knecht zu Bunzlau sah einmal, daß seine Bäuerin sich in eine Kammer einschloß und hörte sie drinnen reden. Da konnte er der Neugierde nicht widerstehen und schaute durchs Schlüsselloch. Da sah er denn, wie die Bäuerin am Tische saß und vor sich ein Küchlein hatte, mit dem unterredete sie sich und sprach: Bring, Küchlein, bring! Das Küchlein lief geschäftig hin und wieder und brachte immer Butter herbei und legte sie auf einen Haufen. Mit dieser Butter richtete die Bäuerin ihre Speisen an und buck die Buchten. Von dieser Zeit an hat der Knecht nichts mehr bei der Hexe gegessen.

In all of central Europe there are legends of neighbors that have a goblin as their familiar. Here is a version from Bohemia and Moravia:

If you hold the first egg of a black hen for nine days under your arm, a chick will hatch, that is a goblin (hospodařiček or šotek), which follows the person through their whole life, protects their seedings and makes them fertile, and never allows famine to enter their home. A servant from Bolesławiec once saw that his farmer locked herself in a room and heard her talking inside. He couldn‘t control his curiosity and peeped through the key hole. He saw how the farmer sat at the table in front of a chick, and talked to it and said: Bring, Chick, bring! The chick eagerly walked back and forth and always brought butter and put it in a pile. With this butter the farmer cooked food and baked sweet rolls. From that point on the servant never ate with the witch ever again.

In tutta l’Europa centrale ci sono varie leggende di vicini che hanno un folletto come famiglio. Eccovi la variante della Boemia e Moravia:

Se si tiene il primo uovo di una gallina nera sotto il braccio pere nove giorni, ne esce un pulcino, questo è il folletto (hospodařiček o šotek), che segue la persona per tutta la vita, protegge e rende fertili le sementi, e non permette mai alla carestia di entrare in casa. Un garzone di Bolesławiec vide una volta che la contadina si era chiusa in camera e la sentì parlare. Allora non resistette alla curiosità e guardo atttraverso il buco della serratura. Allora vide la contadina che sedeva davanti a un pulcino, e gli parlava e diceva: Porta, Pulcino, porta! E il Pulcino laborioso andava avanti e indietro, e portava sempre burro e lo metteva su di un mucchio. Con questo burro la contadina preparò da mangiare e fece i dolci. Da quel momento in poi, il garzone non mangiò mai più dalla strega.
