ToastyToaster22 fics, Issho in particular - entire catalogue is whumpy as FUCK but mostly exist as a sort of deranged childcare catharsis. Fics you read if you have a lot of intense opinions about foster care. Very slowburn. Probably the densest prose so you may bounce off them

Ruthwrites fics - huge slant towards horror, but there's so many options here. But all the Void Between My Teeth series and Knife Trick are my favs for similar reasons (im going to throw up so hard dog). Wrote an excellent Mob Dies series (Our Endless Numbered Days) that was a wonderful expression of grief but made me cry so hard I can't ever read it again. My absolute favourite author in this fandom of ALL time if you wanna read something fucked up start here

The shoehorned subplot about Harriet being "in love" with Clover not only ruined a kinda mid-tier character but also was used to try and cover up the Qrover implications from V7

Send me a plot point in Volume 8 + your opinion on it so I can radically alter your already-bad perception of a terrible season of RWBY.

I'm gonna be real with you, I don't remember it ever being clarified that she was in love with Clover, but I definitely felt the push, you're basically spot-on. After everything else that had happened in Volume 8, and every other giant red sign screaming that the lion's share of writing passed back to you-know-who, I'm begging Miles Luna to just come out as homophobic by now.

People were already utterly pissed about Clover dying after all the gaybait, and then they couldn't even let fans have their rage. Had to spit on that, too, throw Harriet onto the fire to make it seem like people were wrong for interpreting the characters as not being straight.

Fake, performative gaybait with a few (always female) crumbs to cover up the homophobia is basically the calling card of M&K by this point.
