Return to the Swamplands? Yes

Soooo about the podcast - here’s the thing: It’s been a while since we last heard from old Benjamin Gaunt - don’t I know it.

Over the past year I realized a few things: 1. Life is tricky (but therapy and self reflection help) 2. Scheduling podcast writing, recording, and producing (solo) is also tricky 3. Combining the two, on a (fairly arbitrary) schedule is A LOT trickier

Moving forward, my plan in releasing content from the Swamplands is as follows: 1. Not setting rapid, arbitrary deadlines for myself 2. Being more comfortable with balancing life with my storytelling 3. And, furthermore, continuing the podcast (and, ideally, other formats)

I’ve had enough time to stabilize things on the life end (a continuing project), and have rekindled my passion in telling this ongoing story.

So! The next episode that comes out will be Episode 7 of Season 1. Could I just release it as the start of a new season? Sure. But, frankly, does the distinction matter? Kinda.

At the end of the day, a year for you and me has only been a week or so for Gaunt. And I have more specific plans for delineating Seasons 1 and 2…

At any rate! If you’ve been waiting to hear what’s next, I’m grateful - the wait will (very) soon be over.

Pictured below is Bärchen Und Die Milchbubis! They are a band from Hannover, Germany, they released one album and two singles between 1980 and 1982, and now, in 2024, they are touring again! But that's not why I played them in the show, I played them because they are one of the bands that are featured in the fantastic Inner World 033 podcast, by the World Of Echo label, and compiled by the Famous Mammals. It's a three hour long feast of great great music, and I wanted to direct my listeners to this podcast, go listen and enjoy. Also, this episode of De Algemene Verwarring is a digital one, so as always I'm playing some tracks that I don't own on a physical lp or cd. Some of them are just ripped off the youtubes because unavailable on other places, and some others are from the Bandcamp vaults. Links below in the playlist when available. The Adventures of Superman Radio Show’s version of Richard “Dick” Grayson’s Backstory.

Episode: George Latimer, Crooked Political Boss Part 17. Episode 1370. 24/09/1946

Dick Graysons Parents: John and Marie Grayson, famous duo circus act dubbed the Flying Graysons. Most famous team of high wire aerialists in the business before they were killed in front of an audience of 15,000 people.

Bruce had previously known of the flying Grayson act as he was an ametur aerialist himself, spending hours just watching the Graysons work out. The couple knew the millionaire enough for Bruce to share a viewing box seat with 8 year old Dick Grayson on the performance of the Grayson couples murder.

In the middle of the Graysons performance while doing a stunt on a tightrope wire, the cable suddenly snapped and the Graysons fell to the ground.

Marie died on impact while John died only a few minutes later but not before grasping Bruce Wayne’s hand and telling him to “take care of Dick” and that “this was murder”.

Batman investigated the murder and managed to find the murder but never was able to convict him of his crime. No vengeance plot whatsoever.

Murderer: George Larson, the circus ringmaster.

Evidence found: The steel high wire cable was partly sawed through, John Grayson’s Journal, hearsay from Dick Grayson and fellow circus performers.

Motive: during the beginning of WW2, Larson found that Mrs. Graysons was French. Her relatives (sister and brother) were in Paris and a part of the French underground.

Larson would see to it that the nazi authorities made it “unpleasant for her relatives” unless he was paid off. He blackmailed the Graysons until they had no more money to give him.

The Graysons threatened to go to the district attorney and pin Larson with blackmail and extortion. Which lead to Larson tampering with the wire the next day.

Retribution: They were unable to convict Larson of murder but through Dicks testimony, Larson was sent to prison for 10 years for blackmail and extortion.
