I played rdr2 before rdr1 and let me tell you hearing John wheeze after being shot dozens of times and sounding just like Arthur struggling to breathe and wheeze on that cliff side made me lose my shit

I remember when I first played Red Dead at the age of 18, it being cathartic to watch Jack shoot Edgar Ross. Seeing John being gunned down like that hurt me so much that I felt vindicated that Edgar died at least half the death John did.
Now, at the age of 32 after over a decade of life and a sequel that told the story that lead to it, it's the most bitter thing I've had to make a character do in a game. This wasn't the plan for him, he was supposed to be a writer, or a rancher, or anything else. John sacrificed everything to give Jack a different life, Abigail scarified everything to give him a different life, Arthur sacrificed everything to give him a different life, hell, Uncle sacrificed everything to give him a different life.
But no matter how hard they all tried, the cycle couldn't be escaped. And I have to guide Jack at a young age through hell and brimstone, through staring a man's brother and his wife in the eye coldly and lying to them just to find their family member and exact vengeance none of them would have wanted.
No matter how hard anyone tried, the cycle just can't be broken. There's no way out. And now Jack has to live it too. And that's absolutely more heartbreaking than any moment in the series.

my rdr roman empire is the marstons' daughter. how did she die? what was her name? what would she look like? what would her character be like? what would the marstons' life be like if she didn't pass away? what would jack do with her after their parents' death? i have so many questions and so little answers, and her whole existance makes me extremely sad. i can only imagine how happy abigail and john were when they learned that they'll have another child that they could finally upbring in a pretty safe enviroment; and how extremely dissapointed and sad they were when their little girl died. the marstons were given a lot of chances for a better life, but all of these chances turned out to be simply false hopes. everything that was good, didn't last too long

I like to think that when Abigail died, John was there to guide her home. So she wouldn't have to do it alone

I find it deeply ironic that Micah Bell and John Marston's deaths are in a similar vain and I don't know whether it's intentional or not, I like to think it is since the revenge-killing of Micah Bell was eventually the beginning of the end for John (which would make sense why their final moments are in a same way)
Both have their final moments walking around, breathing heavily before collapsing; sorta realising that they are dying but the difference is Micah's shrugging could be because his lack of caring and remaining bitter to the very end (most-likely) or him retaining that way of an outlaw, dropping to the ground with gun still in-hand. whilst John drops his gun, identifying that he's given up a life of an outlaw, then collapses dead.
i hope i aint lookin to deep into this LOL but it's sorta like the only character-death in each games that are significant in which they die in a similar fashion, both with the same sorta.. breathing n walking around before dying. while micah's lack of care is more bitter to the end and retaining that way of an outlaw, whilst john's rings more to him giving that life up by dropping his gun and accepting it as his sorta. last good deed.
