who are your biggest art influnences/what artists do you admire a lot?
I admire a lot of artists so let's go down the list together :
-Pendleton Ward (the midnight gospel is literally what's in my brain all the time but in animation form. I love it so much. )
-Patrick McHale (over the garden wall. Need I say more.)
-@reeartwork is pretty much where the way I draw eyes comes from, I also love their funky color palettes!
-@avril-circus I received their graphic novel "Le jardin" for my birthday and every single page is a beautiful work of art, the movement, the colors, the OUTFITS- its all!! Woahwie!!!
-@absmagno is just very cool,, love me some good shapes
-one of my art teacher from art school, Mr corvaisier! He's an amazing painter and he has the chillest views on life, you can find him at laurent_corvaisier on Instagram! He was my personal Bob Ross in the way he thinks and he helped me understand how simple acrylic can actually be! Here is one of his paintings
-@vewn I just love their creepy ambiances, funky color palettes and they helped me understand that perspective can actually be whatever the fuck you want it to be. I would've never tried any type of perspective if it wasn't for them, so thank you if you're reading this!
-Chris Hong on YouTube, I always go back to her videos when I need inspiration, she always makes me want to draw! Also the movement in her drawings is what helped me when my poses were getting too stiff or too boring!
-Tove Jansson, I loved the moomins as a kid so you have no idea how happy it made me to see it become so popular on tumblr! I love her world, it overflows with kindness, love, and imagination! Also the way she drew flowers. I love drawings flowers now because I draw them the way she did, it's wonderful to carry little pieces of all the artists you love!
-and last, but probably my current favorite : Lisa Hanawalt, art director on Bojack Horseman and current kick-ass maker of the kick-ass show "Tuca and Bertie". I love her to death its SO GOOD. Like her world is so fun, I love how cool her characters are, whether they're animals or plants, the mood is always so modern yet its full of fantasy and she's definitely my biggest inspiration! What an amazing illustrator!
Here are some more general inspo that are not artists : simple modern design (I like simple shapes and big blocks of colors ahag), french illustration, art nouveau, cubism, biblically accurate angels, angels in general except they're mischievous and fucked up and naked for some reason, the very specific star shape I put in my drawings all the time, eyes???
That was a mess. Anyways, I highly recommend you go check these artists out, they're all incredible, I'll see if any more come to mind but for now, toodles~
