ANYONE WANT A CAT?

A couple days ago we heard a cat crying in the snow and took her home. We took her to the vet, and she is not chipped. Our landlord says we cannot keep her. The shelter is closed for Sunday and we aren't going to kick an animal out into a snowstorm.

She is just about the sweetest cat you can find. She loves to sleep on people and snuggle in warm spots. She has been using the litter box, but for full disclosure she did pee on a beanbag chair.

We're in North Utah and likely won't be able to drive far for transport.

I cannot vouch for his behavior around dogs but I think he would be alright with older kids who are familiar with cats. Tolerates being picked up, good "soft paw" play etiquette, and is coming around to being a lap cat.

This feels like a weird thing to post on Tumblr but I am running out of both options and time so.

I am looking to rehome my grandmother’s two adult cats. She recently moved into assisted living and was unable to take them with her, and unfortunately neither my own cat or my landlord are cat friendly so I cannot keep them myself.

Sadie and Zoe are super sweet girls in need of a loving and quiet home. Sadie is a 4 y/o spayed female black and white shorthair and Zoe is a 10 y/o spayed female torbie shorthair. They are both incredibly friendly but are still a bit shy - they have been removed from her condo and relocated closer to me, which has been a big change for them. Both of them are up to date on rabies and RCP and have had recent exams and blood work. They are both slightly overweight and will need some dietary changes going forward but otherwise are in very good health.

These cats are currently located in the Northwest Corner of Connecticut but I am willing to rehome them to anyone who is within reasonable driving distance (read: anywhere in New England and most of eastern New York, NOT the city) and can provide a positive vet reference - the reference is non-negotiable. They MUST stay together as they are a bonded pair. I do have some supplies that will get sent with them, including litter boxes and Frontline.

They would be fine with other cats, but would not do well with high energy or large breed dogs or young children. Older/less energetic/smaller dogs and older children would be okay.

Hi, I apologize for this ask out of nowhere, but do you have any advice for finding a home for a cat who was recently diagnosed with diabetes? my family cannot keep him for a variety of reasons including financial, and we're scared to take him to our local shelter because we're worried they'll put him down. I've tried DCIN, but they said they couldn't help because rehoming diabetic cats is difficult, and I don't know what other organizations or individuals are out there that can help.

I'm so sorry that you're facing this decision. It's a heart-breaking one and I wish fewer pet owners had to face it.

DCIN (Diabetic Cats In Need) is VERY full at the moment, but they may be willing to put up a courtesy posting on their facebook page. This is basically just a "hey, this cat needs to be rehomed but isn't part of our foster program" sort of thing. They may also be able to waitlist your cat, meaning once they can open a slot for another foster cat, they can take him in. I don't know if you've talked to them about that but if you haven't, you can try again.

You should absolutely look into other special needs cat rescues in your area. I have no idea where you're based but your veterinarian or local shelter might know what's in your area. Your vet is also a good resource if anyone is looking for a new kitty in their life; it's uncommon but some people look for cats with particular problems because they've got a soft place in their heart for those types of kitties.

Tumblr has also proven pretty effective at rehoming cats--- I'll absolutely signal boost a cat looking for a home.

Rehoming or fostering cats for woman leaving abusive home

EMERGENCY! Would anyone in the greater Los Angeles area be interested in adopting or fostering any of three adorable cats? This is a desperate situation-- a friend's sister, R., is leaving an abusive home in North Hills-- her son is illegally evicting her, and threatening to confiscate her cats (he's also a lawyer). She has to find new homes for her cats (fostering or permanent) by this weekend. This is R. tells me about the cats:

"These 3 cats are siblings who I found in my garden shed when they were kittens..their mother had disappeared and never returned  I raised them totally indoors as pets. They are about 2-1/2 years old now. The female is spayed and both males are neutered. The males' names are Orion and Orpheus, and the female's name is Nebula. The male cat Orion is usually confident and friendly. He is a tabby with green eyes. He frequently follows me around and sits with me. The other male's name is Orpheus. He is not as confident as his brother, but is more sensitive and affectionate. For a while this year I had to separate the brothers because Orion was intimidating Orpheus.  Their little sister Nebula is a petite cat with somewhat tortie markings, white chest and paws, and green eyes. She is very shy and timid. She will hide if too nervous.  I need foster help right away and so appreciate you contacting me. The brothers might be better off if they are kept separate. The female could go with either brother or be by herself."

Sometimes a chicken isnt a good fit for being a house chicken! It really depends on the bird. This is about a Polish named Karen who i rehomed quite quickly after acquiring her. Rehoming is sometimes a taboo subject in some places but really that decision is almost always made with the animals best interest at heart and that also goes for this bird below. So if your someone who may need to rehome breeding birds (or perhaps a pet when circumstances change) maybe this positive story can ease some anxiety and give you a good template for how it should go.

Karen came to me in 2019 to retire here as a house chicken since she had slowed down laying for her breeder and he no longer wanted Polish. She was a good hen to him and he wanted her to go somewhere where she would be pampered and taken care of so she went to me especially since at the time my silkie (also from the same breeder) wasnt integrating with my other birds. I wanted to get him a familiar friend so Karen was the best option. Despite being raised as a confined bird who was raised in a building Karen was very stressed living in the house. She would stay very still in one place or she would constantly make very upset noises that were very loud and sounded like a kookaburra. The other birds accepted her gladly but she was uncomfortable around them and did not adjust well to a house chicken lifestyle. I knew she wasnt enjoying what was supposed to be her peaceful retirement so i reached out to a friend who has a very well taken care of flock and arranged for him to take her in. This person had bought birds from me before and was very kind and gentle. They were known for taking in special needs birds and didnt mind older laying hens so when he saw her he was very happy about taking her in. I really like this family as they spoil their birds and have a lot of outdoor space for their free ranging flock At her new place Karen was very nervous at first since not only had she been moved twice but i also gave her a "haircut" so she could see better which could be quite different then her typical obscured vision. Eventually though she warmed up to her new place and now she is high in the pecking order and going on 8-9 years now which is an old age for a Polish. She likes to boss everyone around and loves to complain when the weather doesnt suit her which delights and amuses her owners. To this day Karen is a happy girl who is enjoying her perfect retirement and is a great example on how rehoming can be the best decision for a bird. Below you can see her upset protests that were much louder in person and very grating on the ears

When she got to her new home she followed their dog around for a bit and even came inside

She even got to learn the "joys" of being rained on (she did not enjoy it and as you can see she went indoors lol)

Eventually she established herself and is a very happy

And when i rehomed Nebby and Baby bird i knew who would be the perfect home for them and Karen welcomed them gladly <3 I am so thankful Karen welcomed them so kindly as chickens can be quite mean to new flock members.

hey everyone, unfortunately i've had to make the difficult decision to rehome my cat king fluffkins. i'd love to get him to a good home where i can keep in some kind of contact and i figured this would be the best way to spread the word. he's a very sweet boy who loves to snuggle once he's settled in, low maintenance (not picky with food or litter), and indoor only. he can and does free feed and i'd be happy to send you with all of his bowls and sifting litter box! we're in the spokane area but i'm willing to split transport costs or something to get him to a good home elsewhere.

It breaks my heart to write this…..but I’m looking to rehome my children, ages 16 and 19. Honestly, I didn’t do enough research about having kids before making this commitment & they just don’t fit into mine & my dog’s schedules anymore. The dogs and I are so busy. Also, the kids are starting to have behavioral issues that they never had as newborns & we’ve tried everything to work through these issues but it’s not improving & we just can’t have this much of a liability in our home anymore. They are ruining my marriage due to stress, waking me up early & tearing up my house, ruining my furniture, my walls, everything. They are potty trained and extremely treat motivated, but neither one listens to commands very well. Also, we’re moving & have found a home with a lot of room for the dogs but just couldn’t find one with enough bedrooms for these kids.

It saddens me (please no judging or negative comments) and I am aware of how much emotional damage this will be on them & probably never fully recover from being abandoned but it’s just the circumstance we’re dealing with but please PM me if interested. There is a re-homing fee because I want to make sure that they get a good home!

You could also call local exotic vets to see if they or any of their employees are willing to take her in, or post on local reptile Facebook groups to find other reptile enthusiasts near you who might want her. (Make sure that they’ll provide her with proper care before rehoming her, of course.)

Just so you know, red-eared sliders are invasive in many areas in the US, including Virginia, so the laws around owning them as pets may be complicated. I would look into the laws in your area (if you haven’t already) to make sure it won’t make rehoming her difficult.
