I am usually last. I am quite fine with seeing the backs of others. I get the photos of them hiking when I go with a group which is awesome because it adds something to photos at times. People can fill a space of a photo. Sure seeing mountains and more mountains and forest after creek after waterfall is amazing but sometimes having a person makes it so much more.
PSA : You don’t have to have every single piece of gear you think you need in order to get out and have an adventure. Don’t get me wrong. It’s still important to be prepared. Know the terrain you’ll be in, the weather, the rules for the area, and pack the 10 essentials. But you don’t need to wait around until you can buy every little thing you’re told (or social media tells you) to get for your hiking, camping, or backpacking trip. 🏕️ This is my sleep setup for backpacking. An ultralight @nemoequipment Hornet tent, the @seatosummit Comfort Lite self-inflating sleeping pad, and the @rei Women’s Joule 21 down sleeping bag. ALL of which I found for massive discounts at an REI garage sale, years ago! What you don’t see are the little things I’d LIKE to get that’ll improve my experience just that much more, but that I don’t necessarily need. Like a backpacking pillow to help with my scoliosis 💁🏻♀️ and to avoid back & neck pain (I currently use a folded up jacket and sweater as a pillow). And a bigger tarp at the bottom and better quality tent stakes — I bent a few of my cheap tent stakes on this trip and some of them I had to put heavy rocks on top of to keep them secure. There are so many other things (especially clothing-wise) I feel that I want and need for certain adventures but the truth is, you just gotta get out there and start. Use what you have. If you don’t have something you absolutely need, ask friends to borrow items. Search thrift shops or the used gear section on @rei’s website or shop at their outlets. You can also rent gear and items from REI and other places (check your local outdoor businesses too). 🎒 I hope this post encourages someone interested in the outdoors to just GET OUTSIDE and try new things this year! Whether you have the perfect tent setup or not, whether you have the best hiking shoes on the market or not… #getoutandexplore 📍: Northern Wintu and Walla Walla land #rei #rei1440project #nemo #nemoequipment #seatosummit #trinityalps #canyoncreeklakes #backpackinglife #backpackinggear #campinggear #campinglife #outdoorwoman #backpackingadventures (at Trinity Alps, California) https://www.instagram.com/p/CncQ4vKONlv/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=
“Beautiful places are not just a joy for the moment, while you're there. They will become homes for you, spaces of solace and comfort, where you can close your eyes and go to. Nothing you experience will ever go away. It belongs to you now. Just feel. Don't be afraid to feel.”
A frosty morning from Karanga camp. A karanga is a ground nut that is watered by the creek in Karanga Valley. The creek flows down near Moshi where the nut is grown. #kilimanjaro #karanga #wanderlust #adventureseeker #doyoutravel #travelmore #goexplore #wonderfulplaces #openmyworld #lovetotravel #adventurethatislife #roamtheplanet #workandtravel #locationindependent #responsibletravel #seekmoments #postcardsfromtheworld #getoutstayout #optoutside #rei1440project #choosemountains #travel #travelcouple https://www.instagram.com/p/CVKIet6tjsP/?utm_medium=tumblr
Now taking name suggestions for my @rei Trailbreak 60L pack! Big Bertha is out of the mix, y’all. 🎒 Back in July, I went on my 2nd-ever backpacking trip. And I defffinitely overpacked. Did I really need a 60L pack for a 3 day trip (that actually turned into 2 days due to weather)? Maybe not. 😆 It sure held a lot of snacks and food though (#priorities), and I didn’t feel like it was too heavy for me — especially after learning how to properly pack a backpack. But, yeh, I admit I could’ve gone without a few things. I have a nice @deuter daypack, so now I’m on the hunt for a mid-size pack around 45L for future weekend trips. Still for SURE keeping {insert backpack’s new name here} though, cuz I plan on tackling many more and longer backpacking trails over in TN! 🌳 If you know of any Southern backpacking areas, I’d love to hear about them! Also literally any backpacking advice and tips or knowledge is helpful! I learned so many little tricks while on this getaway with a few friends! #backpackbackpack #backpackingadventures #backpackinggear #backpackinglife #rei1440project #trinityalps (at Trinity Alps, California) https://www.instagram.com/p/Ci-8JkwPxSl/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

What do I even call this? Crescent Moon in the Sunset? Guess that will do. I stepped out for my dogs to go to the bathroom and well this was too beautiful. As soon as they were back inside I was rushing in to grab my camera. Thankfully, my battery still had a charge!
