Did you know Amazon re-prints books and sells them as originals? I'm so furious!
I ordered GtN & HtN paperbacks through Amazon and instead of sending me the normal versions, they sent me print-on-demand KDP ones.
The covers and spines are printed off-center, the colors are faded, the covers are made of different paper - GtN is sort of matte and velvety while HtN is glossy, they don't have the usual orange and blue "inserts" (?) (Idk what to call that colored paper that should peek through the cover; but they don't have it), GtN is sooo grainy and has impossible-to-remove greasy marks on it, while HtN has scratches on it. Even the margins are different throughout the book - some are 1,3 cm and some 1,6 (I know the difference seems miniscule but it was enought for me to notice and to want to measure it to confirm).
Am I nitpicking? Perhaps. But if I order a book, I want the book, not some cheap knock-off. And no, nowhere in the listing did they even mention this is a re-print. Nowhere.
Even in the books themselves, on the page with copyright and edition, it says it's printed by Macmillan Publishing in the USA. The information that it is, in fact, printed by Amazon in Poland is only on the last page.
And just look how crooked they are!

Typography Tuesday
Towards the end of his life, the notable German painter and printmaker Albrecht Dürer (1471-1528) published Underweysung der Messung mit dem Zirckel und Richtscheyt (Instructions for Measuring with Compass and Ruler), commonly called the Four Books on Measurement in English, printed in Nuremberg by Hieronymus Andreas Formschneider in 1525. Specifically intended for practicing artists but equally useful for the applied arts, this was the first of Dürer's theoretical writings to be published. The treatise synthesized a number of classical and contemporary mathematical texts with the knowledge of geometry Dürer had accumulated over a lifetime of artistic practice, in order to train German artists in precision drawing and, by extension, precision thinking.
In Book III, Of the Just Shaping of Letters, Dürer details the geometric construction of the Latin alphabet, relying on Italian precedent. The last section of the book provides directions for the construction of Gothic majuscules and minuscules based on an entirely different modular system. In 1917, the Grolier Club of New York produced a limited-edition English translation, of which we only have an inexpensive Dover reprint. However we are showing pages from it because a 3D Concepts class is using it to construct 3D models based on Dürer’s instructions and we will be producing an exhibition of these explorations along with the book later this semester.

Please stay calm
Between January and March 2023, we printed 1250 copies of Moonlight on Roseville Beach.
Right now, the number of copies left in the wild (not in the hands of a store or consumer), is about 450.
It may be time for a reprint funding campaign, possibly with the option to getting some hardback copies.

New “budget” Commander cards: March of the Machine Edition: Colorless and reprints
Alright, to finish talking about the new cards, a brief one about new options that can in theory go into any deck, still under the $2 bar.
Tumblr media
Realmbreaker ain't great ramp. While getting a rampant growth every turn is quite interesting for non-green colors, the initial three mana investment makes this quite a costly endeavor that takes a long time to start paying off. However, the ten mana ability on this is actually quite achievable in commander, and since it can be activated at instant speed, just pulling out two or three praetors should be enough to put you ahead a game-winning amount. If that's the plan, getting some option to ramp is the upside, but I wouldn't count it as part of a ramp package, it's a big splashy finisher that if you got nothing else to do, can provide some ramp.

Some colors struggle with removing some types of permanents. If you're in red and want to get rid of enchantments, or a pure colorless deck or in black and need artifact answers, 5 mana as an etb is not an insane rate, Meteor Golem sees quite a bit of play at 7. You'll miss some targets randomly, and in those narrow decks the backside is essentially a vanilla 5/5, but having versatile removal might be enough by itself.
Finally, I want to dedicate a section of this to reprints from the main set and commander decks that have dropped in price significantly after their latest reprint, so if they've been out of your reach before, you might wanna give them another look. Let's start by the biggest ones, and then add a smattering of cards that were cheaper to begin with.

$14->$4

$15->$8

$13->$5

$10->$3

$8->$3
And then all of these that weren't very expensive to begin with, hovering between $2 and $5, but now are going for less than half of that.

It's ironic that there is so much Magic products being printed to the point of oversaturation, but so many cards are needing meaningful reprints.

In the finale of BPWF Shuri finally defeats Nemor, and Nemor doesn't feel angry or vengeful after his defeat. Instead, he paints a mural depicting his battle with Shuri, it seems that Namor wanted to document Taloken and Wakanda for posterity to learn from. But queen went to Namor and expressed her displeasure at the signing of the peace agreement between Namor and Wakanda. However, queen said that his goal had been achieved. Many were puzzled by Namor's attitude and answer, and many believed that Namor was simply relieved that Wakanda's strength had produced feelings of respect. But in fact, there's more to it than that. It's about the political mind of Namor, Because in the context of the film, Wakanda's openness to the outside world has led to international pressure to share vibranium and to take responsibility for the Taloken affair. From Taloken's point of view, their greatest demand is peace and stability, but now the international situation has threatened the security of Taloken, and Taloken's internal voice to attack the land. As a ruler, the country was no longer united and needed not repression, but guidance. Namor was the first to attack Wakanda, which could test Wakanda's attitude, it will also appease the people of Taloken. As for the defeat of Shuri, it seemed more like following the script of Namor. Although Shuri had apparently defeated Namor, Taloken had gained a powerful ally, and let the people of Taloken know that there are more powerful nations out there than the world under the sea that have also wounded the warmongers of Taloken. Of course, this is not to say that Namor deliberately lost to Shuri. He must have used all of his strength, because Wakanda is only worth an alliance if he has defeated himself with all of his strength. Otherwise, namo would have had to defeat Wakanda first, then in the name of fully independent and sovereign states, and international exchanges, then the follow-up will be more complex and uncontrollable. So for Namor, if Wakanda can beat him, then for Taloken, is the best choice. His temporary defeat, but in exchange for Taloken longer-term peace, this is Namor's political skills.
