Remember a decade ago when gritty retellings of fairy tales were all the rage in Hollywood? Compulsus' novel approach to revenge film is both fresh and a new take on a subgenre whose dependence on its formula is just as much a barrier as a comfort. (Not to mention, it does a great job of presenting the potential success of a revenge film that doesn't rely on displaying its assaults).
