We have sold ourselves into a fast food model of education, and it's impoverishing our spirit and our energies as much as fast food is depleting our physical bodies.

So I never thought I'd get a chance to shout accolades at you given that this is the first time we've met but I just have to say that I am an absolute fan of your work. I don't think there's a film of yours that I haven't truly loved and I just wanted you to know I'm a fan. Are you coming to Ireland with the rest of us? @robinsonjnicks

Believe in robins. (No, not that Robin, although you should put your trust in him and his team too.)

ROBINSON vs EQUIDISTANT CONIC
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Robinson Pseudocylindrical Compromise
One of the more well known map projections, the Robinson projection was created by Arthur H Robinson for Rand McNally in 1963, who wanted a visually appealing compromise projection for world maps. The National Geographic chose it to replace the Van der Grinten projection in 1988, and used it for a decade before switching to the Winkel Tripel projection. Unlike other projections that are defined by a single mathematical formula, the Robinson is defined with a table of coefficient values that are interpolated between.
It is one of the projections featured in xkcd 977.
Equidistant Conic Conic Equidistant
First described by Ptolemy in the 2nd century, the Equidistant Conic is often used used for smaller regions that are longer in the east-west direction than in the north-south. As an equidistant projection, distances measured along the meridians are correct, as well as along the two chosen standard parallels (20° N and 60° N are usually chosen for world maps, as seen here). Conic projections like this one are often used for maps of the continental US, see below the cut for one of these.

Thanks for being such good company the other day! I'm sorry that I kind of sort of tripped and landed on you but in my defense, that rock really did come out of nowhere. I hope I didn't hurt you too much, Nick. I also think we might need a redo. One that doesn't involve tall grass and hidden rocks. What say you? A second chance?
