casual reminder that tone tags which use acronyms or shortened phrases/words are inherently inaccessible, and thus are useless. spell out the whole thing instead :]

im ngl i think the widespread use of tone indicators as supposedly "for neurodivergent people" is lowkey ableist lol. like neuroatypical people KEEP saying that tone indicators are too hard to remember and theres too many of them so they end up being even more confusing and that if your sentences meaning is not clear you can literally just use a full word and it doesnt cost you much more effort to type (genuine) instead of /gen but nobody wants to make that change bc "but its for neurodivergent people!!!" like which ones. way i see it its only for the disabled people who have the ability to memorize all your little acronyms and wont mix them up and dont have trouble differentiating between very similar ones and dont mix up letters when reading. so it requires actually quite a number of abilities that neuroatypical people notoriously may not have in order to use something thats supposedly for us. basically i think if i have to google what your tone indicator even means before i can understand it thats not accessibility.
(and ofc i know a good number/ most of the people preaching the use of tone indicators are neuroatypical themselves, and i think its still ableist to assume that because you can do something, everyone can and it should be a universal standard for disabled people)

I think when people think of mental illness and what helps, especially with things like anxiety and depression, the treatment involves pushing yourself. Pushing yourself to get out of bed, to exercise, to take a shower, to go out in public, to order your own food from the cashier, etc.
And because the mental health movement has grown so much, people think that's the default of ALL illnesses. That the only way someone will get better is if they push themselves. That practice makes perfect. That you'll become more comfortable or strong over time the more you do something.
But what people need to realize is, with physical disabilities and chronic illnesses, pushing yourself in most cases is DETRIMENTAL. Pushing yourself past your limits can lead to flare ups or further injury. That's why it's important to know your limits, how certain activities may affect your condition, and learn how to either adapt or get help to complete the activity in question.
Also, most of us are already pushing ourselves. Most of us don't have access to the help or equipment we need. Most of us live in places where we frequently encounter inaccessible obstacles. Most of us NEED to rest.
So please don't try to be our physical therapists or doctors. There are people specifically trained to help us navigate our own conditions and limitations. There are people trained to help us strengthen our body's resilience without causing flare-ups or injury. Do not tell us "it'll be good for you" or "you need the exercise" when we say something is too heavy or too far or when we say we need our mobility aid(s). Your friend with depression may need to be encouraged to get out of bed, but your friend with chronic illness definitely doesn't.
Respect our rest.

this overwatch 2 shit has GOT to be illegal right? I mean, they sold the game on the promise of PvE and now they cancel it. This better earn them a false advertising charge
And the wildest part is that you can't even play Overwatch 1 anymore.
Anyone who's followed this blog long enough has probably seen me post a rant about how terrible video games are at media preservation, and how we should preserve games (even ones we don't like) to be playable in some manner long after the developers take the servers offline because games are art and deserve to be able to be experienced by the future long after they've been discarded by their makers as a product.
You can't do that anymore with Overwatch 1, a game that wasn't even free to play.
People paid 40$ in 2016, 60$ if they went for the deluxe edition, to play Overwatch. New heroes, maps, etc were promised to come as free updates, instantly accessible for anyone to play without grinding or microtransactions (though there were mtx for cosmetics) and that the game would be supported for many years.
This was one of the many reasons why Overwatch back then absorbed a large part of TF2's playerbase: TF2 had been chugging along since 2007, at the 8-9 year point its updates were winding down and people have accepted it was finally hitting the end of tis life, and were looking for a new cartoon team shooter that would last for years. OW was not TF2's successor and was never intended to be, but that promise of many years of free support was a major part of why people gave it a chance just the same.
And then just 3 years later in 2019 they announced Overwatch 2, a game that looked really, really similar to Overwatch 1, except it was going to have the actual story missions via PvE mode that Overwatch 1 didn't have. They said there would be enough new things to justify the '2', and that people who bought Overwatch 1 need not worry about their investment in the first game.
And then it turned out what they meant by that was that they were killing Overwatch 1 by closing its servers, forcing everyone to move over to Overwatch 2, a Free to Play game where you had to grind to unlock the new heroes (people who bought OW1 instantly had the new hero unlocked but come on), was chock full of the usual Free to Play engagement mechanics, and changed the 6v6 format to 5v5, if you had a full squad of friends before, you had to tell one guy to get fucked.
I think the worst part was that when people were understandably angry that Overwatch 2's actual changes from the original were almost all monetization based, games journalists that pressed Blizzard on why players now had to grind a battlepass for heroes, which Overwatch 1 had always given for free, were met with a "well, heroes are the strongest engagement point for our players" type of deflection where they didn't even try to hide their reasons behind something respectable.
Now they're announcing that OW2's PvE mode, the whole (public) reason they made OW2 a sequel instead of an update to OW1, isn't even happening anymore, and Overwatch 1's original 6v6 remains dead and inaccessible.
I didn't like Overwatch 1. I was really hyped for it when it came out, but found myself really disliking the gameplay (especially on its map design which I thought was terrible) which only worsened with its creative and balancing direction until I lost interest in only a few weeks.
Still, killing OW1 to force all players to move to OW2's free to play model was inexcusable. All art must be preserved in some manner, even ones we don't think are good enough to be worth preserving. Overwatch in particular was so massive in 2016-2018 that to kill it is to make inaccessible the source material of a kajillion other pieces of art from those years.

I always feel so weird when I see companies making mega expensive “punk” and “goth” clothes. I used to know this other person who kept on wanting to get into the goth scene, and another one of my friends literally was so willing to help her and get her started out with like music recs and clothing tips and she’d constantly tell us. “Oh, but dressing goth isn’t accessible for me. I don’t have the money.”
Which y’know makes sense, not everybody has the money to drop on getting goth clothes. Especially when your priorities are literally keeping a roof over your head and paying bills. We’re all from working class families here. But then we just kind of realised she was referring to the shit you’d find on like… Killstar or Dollskill and everything made a lot more sense. It’s been making me think. Ever since alternative subcultures such as goth, such as punk, even grunge tbf have made their way into mainstream fashion trends on the internet it’s made people believe that the only way you’re able to get clothes to “dress the part” is to fork out shite tonnes of money to these ridiculously overpriced online clothing stores. (You don’t even have to dress goth for example to be goth because it’s a music based subculture but that’s a whole other thing.)
The way trends are today with this whole, “aesthetic” thing along with the consumerist HELL that is fast fashion sparks a wave people just buying swathes of overpriced clothing to hop onto a clothing trend that is actually ripped from a subculture they don’t really understand? Like part of the whole core of these subcultures is that we are anti-consumerist and anti-capitalist. You are a fucking joke.
Don’t get me wrong, I’m not talking negatively about people who truly want to get into these subcultures. There is nothing wrong with that at all, of course there isn’t. I’m talking about people who will see a fashion trend and just hop onto it and really have no idea what they’re doing. (This is part of the reason why I believe it’s unlikely we’ll ever have a new subculture as big as previous ones ever again because of just how everything is a trend now.)
Fashion that has been born from these subcultures has always been DIY. Making your own battle jackets, thrifting pieces of clothing and tweaking them to be how you want. Like… I don’t know about you babes but I don’t think goths in the 80’s were getting their clothes from fucking Hot Topic.
The fact that companies are now and have been making ridiculously priced pieces of clothing to capitalise off of: 1.) People who want to hop on trends because they don’t want to make the clothes they just want the style now, and 2.) People who want to genuinely get into subcultures such as punk and goth but may be misguided as to where to get clothing just makes me so fucking mad because it makes getting into the fashion within these subcultures seem inaccessible and consumerist-ridden when they’re absolutely not meant to be.

PLEASE send in actual feedback to staff!
once again begging people to realize staff don't give one single iota of a shit about you reblogging a complaint post then immediately installing an add-on and "going back to normal" like nothing happened, you need to ACTUALLY SUBMIT A FEEDBACK TICKET (or more than one) for them to even lodge that anyone cares about them fucking over basic accessibility by removing icons or screwing artists out of credit on their own posts!
no one looks at the @'s for official accounts. they get pinged like five million times a day stop @ing staff and expecting it to do anything and actually go submit a ticket because otherwise they can just go "well no one complained that we removed avatars from posts so we're keeping it uwu go screw yourself"
it literally takes like twenty seconds. click feedback in the dropdown and either write your own couple lines or just copy paste the message I've written below idfc. ANYTHING is better than doing the equivalent of literally nothing!
the removal of icons from posts makes it impossible to tell who friends or mutuals are to those with reading disabilities, and it's aggressively anti-accessible. please revert this change! the text blends together instead of feeling like separate posts and is extremely distressing because it feels like you've been forcibly booted from the friendship and community that tumblr has fostered for over a decade. not only is this change inaccessible for many disabled persons, it is actively ANTI-accessible and is both extremely alarming and distressing to see even *get* to this stage of testing!
PLEASE. PLEASE SUBMIT FEEDBACK AND DON'T LET THEM SKATE BY BECAUSE "NO ONE CARES" ABOUT THIS

my current list of biomes that need to be in Minecraft
cave biomes:
ice cave with ice and icicles, found under cold biomes
crystal cave with quartz in it. have a more natural looking quartz block for the overworld that can be crafted into the existing quartz, as well as quartz crystals. Found only in the deepslate layer like the deep dark
Flooded caves should be their own biome and have cave fish and stuff
island biomes:
you know how in real life islands can create really bizarre isolated ecosystems? yeah
definitely needs to be a Volcanic island that is all basalt and has magma and lava
desert/arid biomes:
lush desert with more diverse desert plants
red sand desert or outback with red sandstone and red sand
scrubland with patches of sand, coarse dirt and packed mud, occasional small trees and thorns
ocean biomes:
abyssal ocean found below y=20 with deep sea creatures, it is dark all the time. Since the world depth has increased so much we desperately need this. This could also include strange metal shipwrecks with strange loot
hydrothermal vents when
other biomes:
hot springs: Surface pools surrounded by calcite and dripstone, with mud at the bottom and bubbling water that gives off steam. How? Simple: just make it so that mud placed on top of a magma block will make water on top of the mud bubble and steam
pink sand beach: Exactly what it sounds like, because why not.
salt marshes: Found in similar areas to mangrove swamps, with reeds that can be harvested for thatch. There are soooo many types of wetlands, Mojang. So many.
peat bogs: Another swamp variant where you can dig peat which can be used for fuel
cloud forest. You know how in real life there are jungles at high elevations called cloud forests? This would be a slight fantasy exaggeration/expansion of that idea. Cloud forests are found mixed with stony peaks in high mountains and on clusters of floating islands/rocks at or above the levels that mountains generate. They're often inaccessible without elytra.
ancient forest: Mainly just a forest with huger trees and mushrooms that give off light. I want BIG trees. I want 3x3 oak trees and dark oak trees. Patches of mycelium on the ground. Rarer orchids.

i feel like g1deon would probably have a good deal of body dysmorphia post-resurrection (though i do think that the more unflattering descriptions of him came from gideon, a lesbian who's textually grossed out by muscular men), because of the ...Everything in the way jod brought him back
The way Jod talks about modifying G-'s memory is particularly horrifying:
And my loved ones … The ones I left, I’ll bring back. I know I can. Even G—. In fact, G—’ll be easiest—he won’t remember the compound—none of them will have to remember anything. I know where remembrance lives in the brain, and he won’t have any of it. You know that too, don’t you? It’s the easiest thing in the world … to forget.”
The idea of what the original disciples can remember - or the ghosts of memories that don't quite come to the surface but still haunt them in some way is so horrifying.
I assume Jod induces some kind of retrograde amnesia, knocking out huge swathes of memory but leaving abilities and personality intact.
Even those who weren't regrown from an arm must have struggled with the incongruity between whatever memories of appearance their mind still had, or didn't quite have - something jarringly off in lost years. And that's assuming Jod didn't just make any modifications on a whimsy. (Is Mercy a strawberry blond described by a teenager who's never seen that in real life before or did Jod give her anime hair for funsies?)
But poor G1deon didn't just look older or younger or have different hair. Presumably all of the necros found something unsettling about how the new shape of their bodies sat with some inaccessible sense of self, but G1deon was at best an attempt by Jod to give him a muscular physique when the necromantic body simply can't usually sustain that (was he built before? Did the incongruity of the muscles without fat even when well hydrated sit wrongly in his mind? Or had he aspired to be but never was - was John trying to be nice in a horribly macabre way?) and at worst a shoddy job that might have felt dysmorphic even by comparison to others, let alone from half-submerged memories of self.

so there's a movie from the 1960's I wanted to post a video essay on - it's not available anywhere online, and you have to get the DVD from re-sellers, which I did - and I spent weeks on this thing only to try posting a clip of it and discovered it was blocked due to a copyright claim
i only found this out ahead of time, before wasting any more of my life making this essay, because the official DVD had incorrect / completely absent subtitles on a song in yiddish (e.g. the speaker says "menschen alle" and the subtitles say "mention Anna", then it goes [speaking foreign language]) and I wanted to upload that 5 minute bit of the film with the transliteration + english translation over the footage because it does not exist anywhere. I could not. there is no corrected footage with subtitles for this song.
so, a movie that you cannot stream anywhere, that has been removed from the public for all intents and purposes, still exists within the google copyright detection framework in full. meaning the production company uploaded it at some point in the last decade or so of these algorithms being put in place, but in a manner that is inaccessible to anyone browsing the internet, except to be caught for copyright infringement and prevent any piece of it being distributed for viewing. tell me that's not fucking stupid
