Ooh 🤔 Okay, I'll answer the Sam question first: I think it's red. He uses the color a lot in his costume and Redwing - it just makes sense.

@samothy-wilson is a joy. Bee's a wonderful person and I always love talking with them, whether it's random animal posts, comic stuff, or sambucky absurdity. And I'm getting to that sequel to the Bone Man soon, I swear 😂 💜 💜 💜

@runzu fantastic! They're kind and great to talk with. They have made a lot of my fics better with a good beta and they just brighten my day.

@elektraking is always someone I love seeing around. I love talking to her whenever I get the opportunity and her posts always brighten my day.

@obsessivelymoody is always wonderful to chat with. She's always so kind and encouraging and I love seeing her on discord. She's a magnificent writer and just a good overall person.

@yammz is someone I honestly need to get back to talking to more because I love whenever I see Amy around. She's so fun to talk to and she's made fics I've written better through her beta. I still need to get back to you about that one idea, and I swear I will, it's just my life has been way busier than I expected 😭

@hot-chocolates-world is a magnificent human being who I've probably poked enough by making a tush collection out of a whole body of pictures she collected, but her posts are always an inspiration to see and while we don't have the most interaction together, I enjoy our small moments.

@cataroo was someone who was there for me at the very beginning and one of the first people I really interacted with in the beginning, if only through comments and when I started to get on discord. She's kind and so smart and I love that she was one of my first introductions to this fandom.

@jules-of-the-crown is someone I love talking to whenever we cross paths. I love her on discord, I love her on here. She's so sweet and a magnificent writer, whether it be stony or sambucky or sambuckyquin. Plus, she, Cat, and Elektra are all fans of a particularly wonderful hockey series I enjoy, so it's nice to know that there are other people I know who love those books.

@meidui is a joy. Hands down, one of the most wonderful people to talk to, even if we don't talk much. I still have that ask of yours that I'm working on! going to answer the sam’s fav color question first bc it’s shorter! mostly bc he looked SO damn good in that purple nike shirt in catws, i am generally of the opinion that sam’s favorite color is a really deep purple. i put him in purple in a lot of my fics as well! (when bucky sees just how good sam looks in all his purple, he thinks that’s probably his favorite as well)

as for the mutuals question, i adore all of my mutuals and i am giving each of them hugs and my eternal affection <3

Heart and Soul (Beefy Biker Bucky x OC) series

(So I have seen this so much I figured I would jump on the beefy biker train. Beefy biker Bucky Barnes x OC I will be making this a series. I am still figuring out the master playlist so stay tuned. Bucky x OC (Indigo ivy Jones aka Diana) - (My original character)

Introductions: Meet the Soul Riders and Heart Snatchers

Opening song: (heart and Soul by the Jonas Brothers from “Camp Rock 2: Final Jam”)

The wind hit just right that day on the open road for the “Soul riders,”. The soul riders weren’t just your average ragtag biker crew. These men were respected by not only many biker crews but by many gangs in the area. They made it very clear to not get involved in many affairs only where they needed. But damn sure if you decided to challenge them, you would soon find out why they were called “Soul Riders,” They had heart, passion, but they were protective, determined, and at times dangerous to a point where your soul could feel like it was leaving your body. So watch how you flip the coin.

Let’s introduce them, shall we? First on the list, the top dog of the crew, the natural-born leader. Steve Rogers or as everyone knows him as ‘Nomad,’ Was it the hair, the beard that made most want to be fucked by him till daylight crept through, or the fear that he could snap your neck in half in a split second. He comes across as pure-hearted but it can be switched to cold in a heartbeat.

On his right, there was the dark brown long haired brooding man. Bucky Barnes or as many heard the name “The white wolf,” He was more of the quiet, reserved one. But they always say watch out for the quiet ones. Nothing more seducing yet deadly by his stare, it was like he could talk into bed with his eyes or make your breathing cut off just by his look. After a harsh motorcycle accident giving him his metal arm, you should always watch your back.

Now on the other side of Rogers, there was Sam Wilson. The military man, He became well respected in the army and most bikers who did come out of the military called him the “Falcon,” He was unstoppable in the air force and eventually he grew tired of being told what to do, so it was time to find somewhere else to let his wings spread and be free, joining the crew gave him that free will.

Now last but not least, Everyone knows his name, Clint Barton or otherwise known by pretty much everyone “Ronin,” Yeah he was a family man, he was also a rebel. He just goes where the wind takes him. He knows how to balance his priorities and was tired of people making him choose how to live. The gang definitely knows that he will always come when he is needed or for a good time.

Now let’s be clear, the “Soul Riders,” aren’t the only ones who command the roads. There is another group everyone knows you are signing a death wish if you fuck with them the wrong way. “The heart snatchers,” The name itself already gives insight into what you might expect if you cross their paths.

The leader of the group. Indigo Ivy Jones. Well as the clubs and the gangs call her. “Diana,” heavenly and Divine she can be. But you don’t wanna find out what happens when the angel wings turn into horns when she has had enough or bored of you. She knows the streets through the in’s and outs. Can make you fall to your knees begging for more or for mercy. The choice is yours.

(Just her outfit I have a better aesthetic of her in the next part! :))

Now to the right of her, None other than the well-known redhead Natasha Romanoff or the famous black widow. She can reel you in her seductive touch or her poison bite. You might wanna be careful how you cross blades with her, she can keep you hanging by a thread.

And what’s one black widow without the other, Yelena Belova. The younger sister of Natasha Romanoff. She is vibrant and could give less fucks about the bullshit. She is either your ally or enemy, not both. When she is in action, no one can stop her, and if you get in her way...She will just move you out the way.

Let’s not forget about one more person, Maria Hill, the one to keep things grounded. She knows how to blend in and keep her emotions intact. Her joining the crew was to get away when work became too much of an obligation, now as much as most biker crew out here have a thing about cops. Diana saw Hill become someone very much valuable and a key player especially when shit hits the fan and they need an escape fast.

These two groups never crossed paths before, only stories told from travelers, people in town, and whoever could jump in on the rumors. What happens when unexpected romance brews between one soul rider and heart snatcher, will more allies join or another enemy created...

So I want to start reading Marvel comics, but I honestly have no idea where to start. Online? Paper copies? Do you read them in order or is it ok to pick and choose?

Anyway. Any advice?

Very good question over here :D

First off, I am broke and comics aren't even sold where I live and I would have to order them... no thanks. I read all of them online on pirate sites, whoops. I mostly use readcomiconline.li, it's a pretty good database (only downside is that there are ads and a lot of them are lewd, it's like pirating a movie you gotta close them and then it's ok)

So! Comics! It really depends on what you want to read! I mostly read Avengers and Captain America comics, plus sometimes Spider-Man and all the different crossover events, so I'm not the best if you're not looking for those specifically.

However! When I first got into comics, I looked up some reading guides and stuff and they usually pointed me the right way. One of the first (if not the first) of Marvel comics I read was the original Civil War, which is only like 7 issues without the tie-ins (some of the original comic runs go for even hundreds of issues! Spider-Man from the 60s is like 800 issues).

I think Civil War is a good one to start on when you know the events from the movies, just to compare them if not anything else. I have to say I was surprised by some of the things that went on in there oof, and be ready for some really wild shit haha.

As for order, it doesn't really matter when it comes to individual runs (By the way a run is a collection of issues usually by the same writers and artists and it follows one cohesive story). Only within a run you should read them chronologically because that's how the events unfold in the story too. Different runs might mention previous events from other stories but those are usually small references, unless it was a big big event that affected all of the marvel universe.

Not sure if you're aware of this, but the main comic plotline and universe is called Earth-616, that's where all the main things go on. Alternate universes have different numbers assigned. Most notorious is Earth-1610 aka the Ultimates, which reimagined the heroes in a more serious, modern setting. The MCU is based off of these, combined with 616. I read some and I didn't like them all that much (very edgy and some stuff was seriously messed up like: Hank Pym beats his wife Janet, Hulk ate the chitauri leader, Tony has a sentient brain tumour, Red Skull is Steve's son, and I'm pretty sure Pietro and Wanda were in an incestous relationship, ew...). But! It did give us Miles Morales so. Silver linings.

Anyway. Just to throw out some suggestions of comics I either enjoyed reading or saw recommended a lot:

Matt Fraction's Hawkeye (2012) (deemed most iconic version of Clint)

Captain America Vol. 5 (2005) (this is the one that redefined the character, had the Winter Soldier storyline, and goes all the way to Civil War + Bucky as Cap)

Captain America (2017) (but ignore issue 25# and go straight to #695-#704. This one has references to Secret Empire /hydra cap storyline/ because it happens right after it and it's just. nice short stories that i absolutely adore)

Captain America: Sam Wilson (2015) (Sam Cap! This one follows the events of the 2014 Cap run and eventually Pleasant Hill... and then Secret Empire, which is uhh problematic but not a bad story over all and Sam Cap is always a win!)

Spidey (2016) (This one is just a delightful collection of Peter teaming up with other heroes and having misadventures! It's quite short too, just 12 issues)

Avenging Spider-Man (2012) (Also Peter teaming up with various characters but like, more serious)

Miles Morales: Spider-Man (2019) (The latest Miles run and I'm not all caught up yet but I like it a lot!)

Jonathan Hickman's Avengers (2013) (I haven't finished this one because it has a ton of characters but a lot of people consider it to be THE Avengers run)

Marvel Adventures: The Avengers (2006) (Unrestrained summer fun. If you're looking for light-hearted stories, this one is perfect)

Avengers (2018) (Current Avengers run. I rather like this one! It does reference a ton of stuff so I wouldn't start with this one)

Phew, that took a fair bit of googling haha!

Then there are also crossover events, which unsurprisingly cross over a LOT of the characters (bigger than Avengers). I cannot vouch for these because they are usually very hit or miss but they're not too long. Those that I've read include: Civil War I. and Civil War II., Secret Empire, Avengers vs. X-Men, Avengers Disassembled + House of M, Absolute Carnage, King In Black, War of Realms, Empyre... there is a lot of these lol, it's best to look up the descriptions and decide whether you want to read them or not.

There are also countless What Ifs and alternate universe stories. Those usually have to be specifically searched for and 90% of the time they're absolutely bonkers.

And I think that about covers it! Wow, that was a mouthful. I hope it was helpful! Really I think you should pick a character and look up reading orders, there are a lot of people who organised those a lot better than I ever could haha.

B: Mostly just in terms of gender/sexuality stuff. So, like, if I write a thing it almost definitely didn’t HAPPEN to me, but there will frequently be a “queer like me” vibe running through at least one or two characters in it and sometimes I work out what my particular brands of queer are via writing about them. 

R: . . . god, I really SHOULD have a more involved answer here but my memory is a nightmare and I barely read anymore. Terry Pratchett, Francesca Lia Block, the Night Vale guys, Neil Gaiman, Tamora Pierce . . . definitely many, many others, but those are the ones that immediately leap to mind. And I’ve had a TON of fandom friends over the years who definitely influenced what I wrote/how I thought about what I wrote. Like, too many to list, haha. Especially in the old days on LJ. 

T: I just . . . I just hate constantly redeeming the remorseless murder-Nazis just because they’re played by passingly attractive white dudes. I HATE it. I know it’s been years but Sam Wilson already kicked your HYDRA fave’s ass and Finn is RIGHT THERE with the ditching the bad guys’ side to do the right thing, and has the added bonus of NOT having been a remorseless murder-Nazi first!! Like . . . fine, you can say “to each their own” on a personal level, but as a major fandom trend it MAKES ME INSANE.

So are you done with Good Girls now? I really miss you presence in the fandom and would love for you to write more fic.

i’m not done! i’m still watching and i’ll probably liveblog tonight but tbh it’s kind of taken a back seat for me for a few reasons:

1. i’ve been invested in sam wilson and bucky barnes for the better part of a decade and they’ve got their own show now so i’m living my best life lol

2. the good girls fandom... i don’t want to call it “drama” but maybe intra-fandom issues are, to be frank, getting old. every fandom has issues and in-fighting but it’s usually a lot easier to ignore. this fandom is small enough that it sometimes feels unavoidable and i flat-out scroll straight past a lot of posts that have blocks of texts when they’re from good girls blogs because i just.. don’t even want to know. but that means i end up missing a lot of actual content. so. it is what it is right now.

3. the show is making a lot of Choices that i don’t exactly enjoy. it’s not that i think they’re out of character or that i don’t understand why they’re going that route, but more so that i think they’re choosing the most boring and/or dumbest route possible. like, taking all that time to build up boland bubbles, just to have it destroyed as soon as they were up and running. i think it would’ve been far more interesting to let them actually be successful at it for awhile, and then have the rug pulled out from under them (especially in terms of the betrayal that dean felt over it).

or the whole thing with the parents of sarah’s donor. it’s just not landing. they could’ve had them be either straight up good people or straight up bad people but they chose this weird middle ground that is supposed to be funny but just isn’t at all. it just.. it’s flat. it’s not working. ruby’s and stan’s reactions to these people are in character and the situation is showing us that stan and ruby are ultimately good (or at least caring) people and that they are struggling with who they’ve become. but they could’ve achieved it without making the donor parents caricatures of people down on their luck.

or the situation with annie and men. we know she makes bad decisions and clings to guys she shouldn’t. but the whole situation with kevin was. a nightmare. it didn’t make sense AT ALL. it was in poor taste. and i THINK the point was supposed to be that she was growing because she went and hung out with him in his car after anyway but it just didn’t work for me at all.

i think everyone knows how i feel about the situation with the therapist because everybody feels the same about the situation with the therapist haha

then there’s the shit with eric. i don’t even know where to begin. i can’t believe that that made it out of the writers room, let alone into production and then post-production and then it actually aired. it’s bad. bad bad bad.

and then there’s phoebe. who i think is just untapped potential more than anything. i would be far more interested in watching her start to slip away from the fbi and into beth’s orbit because the fbi is doing the same thing to her that everyone else (except rio) did to beth by underestimating and undervaluing her. but instead they just have phoebe gunning for beth specifically, sort of the same way turner did, but it’s way less interesting. 

and this is not to say that it’s all bad! there’s a lot i am enjoying: the way beth and rio are pushing and pulling and one-upping each other and slowly finding their way back to what constitutes solid ground for them; annie’s slow-but-sure growth in her relationship with ben and in her own sense of self; the sort of role reversal in stan and ruby’s relationship from season one and how that affects them both as individuals and in their marriage; the continued deconstruction of the boland marriage.

but the problem is that there’s a lot more i dislike about the writing choices right now than things i do like, so. you know. i’d rather just disengage a little bit than be upset and angry and waste my energy on it, ya know?

this was all a very long-winded way of saying i’m not gone but i’m probably not going to be writing any more fic any time soon haha.

you critize atla all that much which fine whatever you can do that but, your blog is plastered in marvel stuff which also has tons of problems in regards to representation and which mostly is run by white guys, one of which is actually a trump supporter so like, what's valid and what's not? Why do you get to pick and choose what is and isn't problematic to like?

Another thing is why are you so adamant on shitting on communists and anarchists and leftists in general? What do you even believe it that you think makes you so much better and wise that anyone with that sort of ideology? All you do is blog about fandom related things and consume comics by the two biggest media companies on the planet and you think that somehow makes you an authority on anything?

I’m so glad this ask gave me a gateway to rant about comics I criticize marvel and DC literally all the time, this is like the 5th time but I love to say it: Post-9/11 iterations of iconic superheroes of American culture, especially ones like Batman and Iron-man, are literally the manifestation of contemporary myth-making of American capitalism, as well as American-exceptionalism neoliberal copganda. My last super viral post was completely shitting on how Tibet is represented in Doctor Strange, you should check it out (it’s old though so not my best). It’s kind of an academic hobby of mine to rip apart comics because I love media studies a lot. My entire final project for my Tibetan Studies course in uni was on orientalist misrepresentations of Tibet in Western superhero comics such as Doctor Strange and Iron Fist and the “Shangri-La” phenomenon (I can link if you want I’d have to revise some sections though, haha)! Also if you follow my social media you probably see me preaching the book Capitalist Superheroes: Caped Crusaders in the Neoliberal Age by Dan Hassler Forest, it’s one of my favorite pieces of academic media studies writing, it completely breaks down the concept of the American “superhero" using a Marxist lens and I am obsessed with it. Warning though it’s REALLY dense but I think it’s extremely well-researched and really puts into perspective how important media studies can be when analyzing the political characteristics of nations, and how media shapes the minds of youth in their image.

I said multiple times I don’t mind that people enjoy and consume Avatar, I just wanted to point out it’s flaws in representing the Tibetan people, which is rooted in the writers being white. Comics also does this too, and I have written about this problem both on Tumblr and in an academic setting! So many fictional works created in the Western World has political implications that are problematic in nature, which is why I as a fan enjoy it and also enjoy criticizing and dissecting it! It helps me better understand how politics are ingrained in almost every aspect of our lives! You can enjoy things you are critical of, so please don’t worry! 

I agree with you, enjoying superhero comic companies is definitely a double edged sword, because of their problematic existence as corporate entities while they are now hiring more diverse writers and artists for specific projects that give positive representation for marginalized groups, like Ms. Marvel and Ironheart. I personally try my best as a fan of superhero comics to minimize my impact in contributing to the corporate side and white creators pockets by torrenting popular, large comic titles written by white men. I only actively purchase small series that give writers of color and women a salary and a platform, such as my absolute favorite writers Saladin Ahmed, Greg Pak, G Willow Wilson, Eve Ewing, and Ta Nehisi Coates! They’re all excellent writers so check out their comics and outside works! I also don’t watch superhero movies anymore, I just generally don’t like them that much outside of Black Panther, aka the best superhero film.

Time for a promo: My favorite superhero team of all time, the Champions, focusses on characters of color like Kamala Khan, Miles Morales, Sam Alexander, Amadeus Cho and Riri Williams, and is currently being written by esteemed black academic Eve Ewing. The next issue of her Champions reboot is coming out in October 2020. It’s going to focus on how teen superheroes and vigilantes challenge the government and status quo, I’m so excited about it so PLEASE check out your local comic store and buy an issue if you’re interested in supporting comic creators of color writing heroes of color! It really needs financial support after Covid delayed the release. Champions in the past also gave a platform for Indigenous Canadian voices by pulling in Inuit creative Nyla Innuksuk and collaborated with her to create the new Champions member, Inuit superhero Snowguard (my baby), so if you are interested in modern and inspiring indigenous narratives please check out those past issues as well ❤️

I am a leftist of color (anti-imperialist anarcho-communist would be my best bet but I don’t like labels) myself, who is critical about how Western leftists often romanticize geopolitical situations they are unfamiliar with and nation-states that they have never been to or have been a part of. I hope you understand that leftism, like many things, isn’t a monolith and there are many disagreements and critical discussions happening within the left all the time, groups such as anarcho-communists and marxist-leninist-maoists really aren’t the same. If you happen to fall into the more tankie/authoritarian side of the spectrum, uh I guess sorry if I offended you by criticizing my colonizers lmao but these discourses are fairly common and happen all the time, I’m surprised you’re not familiar with it? Having open, critical discussions within the leftist sphere is what helps us better understand one another and build more substantial praxis together, it’s unhealthy to stick yourself in an echo chamber!

I don’t really get why you’re so spiteful and upset though, I think people who mostly come online to decompress and engage in things like fandom still have a right to have open discussions about politics if they want to. how did you find your passion for writing?

i have most definitely always loved written word. i think i was about 9 when i first discovered Edgar Allan Poe’s work, and i loved his poetry so much that i started to write my own, and that’s really where all this began! but i mean, i’ve loved literature since longer than that. as soon as i could read i was reading and it just progressed from there y’know, especially being into the poetic stuff. i went from Poe to Emily Dickenson, Plath, Shakespeare, and on and on and on, and that was just early inspiration for me. but it’s definitely become more personal, for sure, as writing evolved into a form of expression for me rather than just me mimicking something for creativity. i largely write about emotions i think most of you guys know, and that becomes personal so quick. so when i started discovering short stories and books and memoirs and then fanfiction, idk, it just really got out of hand in the best of ways! so the answer is kind of both. it’s inherent, but it’s also very learned. i know that’s kind of a complex answer but it’s the truth haha. and my relationship with writing has been hot and cold because of those evolutions in the past. i have loved writing and i have hated it and it’s been a one night stand and a booty call and we’ve been married and divorced just as well. i’m just happy that right now, it’s pretty steady, and it’s what i truly love to do.

how do you find inspiration for your stories?

the easy answer is i find inspiration in books, in art, and in music. the much more complex and difficult answer is everywhere. there is inspiration in everything that i do. i think that’s easily the most wonderful and frustrating part of being a writer. i can’t look at someone drinking a coke out of a can and not think about what their story is. i can find meaning in a beat up old pick up truck and abandoned tires, and i can find meaning in how the surface of water ripples even when nothing has touched it. it’s beautiful, but it’s tiring i think. i write every thing down (omg the notes section on my iphone... y’all should ask me to show you screenshots sometime) and i constantly think about philosophy, how humans exist and how characters can come to be. that’s the hard answer.

what motivates you to begin, and continue writing?

i kind of had this conversation with someone earlier and i’m going to do a condensed version (hopefully) but i do not rely on motivation to write. if i relied on motivation to write i would simply never write. writing is hard. it’s a really tiring, difficult, and time consuming hobby and a lot of people don’t recognize that. but it’s also the thing i love to do most. so it’s like, i could watch netflix or hang out with friends or play video games or i could write. i’m never going to choose to write. so instead of focusing on finding motivation, i have really taken a turn to practicing discipline when it comes to writing and YES i know, i know that sounds like shit and that’s an awful answer and not the answer anyone wants to hear bc the first time i heard it i was pissed that someone would tell me that. but it’s so true. you cannot rely on motivation if you want to write a lot, and if you want to write for a living, and that’s my dream. so in the last year, i have taken writing a lot more seriously. i can’t write every day - i’m way too busy and too tired to do that - but i do think about writing every day. and i do TRY to write every day if i can, even if it’s just a little bit. sometimes it’s not on any project, and instead it’s just me typing out my feelings from that day. sometimes i do exercises, like i write about an emotion i’m feeling in detail or a character monologue or even a scene’s setting and description, just to stretch my writing muscles. and honestly, sometimes you just have to sit down and do the thing. and that’s really hard, because writing is really hard, but sometimes you just have to do it. otherwise, you’re not going to get anywhere.

so i guess the short answer to this is i am motivated by my dream of being a full time author some day. i’m motivated by my love of writing. i’m motivated enough to learn the discipline that writing for a living will require of me some day. and really, i’m motivated a lot these days by my readers. i know that people want to read my work and that makes me insanely happy. confused? yes. but insanely happy. and that really keeps me going when i’m feeling insecure or down about my writing abilities. (whew sorry that was so long eeep)

do you write based off of real life experiences?

yes! everything i write, no matter how fantastical or mythical or magic it ends up somehow comes from a part of me. everything is very very very personal. my main characters are extensions of myself, some facet of myself that i want to explore. the themes in my work largely deal with things i care about - like politics, racism, not belonging, not feeling loved. take bloom for instance! bloom, my sam wilson fic, is a metaphor for disordered eating, something that i have struggled with almost my entire life. my mom put me on diets when i was 8 years old lol. you don’t ever fully recover from something like that. and TCOR, my loki series, is deeply personal. in fact, it’s probably the most personal story that i have, which is why it’s the hardest to write. so yes. writing, to me, has to be personal. i don’t think i could write something that didn’t have a part of me in it, because isn’t that what writing is? a very long time ago when i first started writing, someone told me that writing is lying. you're telling the truth, but you're writing it as a lie. and i’m not sure why, but i've held onto it forever. what i write is my own truth spun into a fictional world - a lie. so yeah, everything i write is an extension of me in the most sacred of forms.

Hey, I just started writing CE fanfic and posted my first ever and I wanted to ask you for some tips on like how you build a community of readers, promote your work, advice for a new fanfic writing, how to stay encouraged etc. Sorry if that seems like a lot haha, answer whatever but I'd love to know what you think.

Welcome aboard the super talented and fun Chris Evans writing fandom. 

Wow. I am going to try to tackle this, and I hope that it is helpful and useful information. I took the last day or two to attempt to organize my thoughts, so here goes.

-Building A Community of Readers-

*I’d say consistency is a major part of it building readers. Find a way to post regularly, and I mean, what is regular for you and your life. I see people who post a story a day or even 2 stories a day all the time, and I am in awe. For me, that would only happen if I actually put my everything into cranking it out like that. So tweak what is regular for you and try to remain consistent with it.

*Creativity is also essential. You will see 5 similar stories within thirty minutes on this app if you’re searching. Similar in that the idea is relatively the same. That doesn’t mean don’t write it, it just means you now get to put your own spin on it. You get to play with it and be as creative as you can get. I think creativity is super important in fanfic.

*Interaction. You can post all day, every day, but if you’re not interacting with those who read your work, I feel like it defeats the purpose. As much as authors like to get their likes and reblogs and see those comments, a reply to a comment is also something readers want to see. Interact as much as you can, thank them for reading. Show appreciation for them because no one has to read anything. You will also get to know people on more than a URL basis, and that, to me, is really cool.

-Promoting Work-

This is something that I don’t do much of if I do it at all. The most promotion I do is post here, reblog my masterlist and individual work. Within the last year (think it’s coming up), I began posting on Wattpad as well, but I am not as consistent there are I am here. I know some writers are religious on the story sites such as Wattpad, AO3, and Tumblr and will post a link on Tumblr to their Wattpad and AO3 or vice versa. Some even create free websites to put all their work and direct traffic to it. There are so many ways to promote your writing.

I’ve been meaning to look into setting up an IG account and make posts highlighting what I write as well as putting them on my WordPress site. I’ve even been looking into Patreon and how it can work for me as a writer. These are all options you can look into as well. In this tech, era promotion can be as simple and as complicated as you make it—experiment on what works for you.

- Advice For A New Fanfic Writer-

*NEVER EVER EVER EVER compare yourself and your writing to that of someone else. This is like the GOLDEN RULE for me. This is soooo important. There is no better way for you to pigeon hole yourself and your potential and enjoyment on this ride that fanfic writing is. No good will come of this, you won’t feel any better, it will only make you doubt yourself, your ability, and question if you even want to try to do this anymore. Don’t do it!

*Have Fun! I think every one of us started doing this because we thought it would be fun and a nice avenue to explore our creativity. None of us came here like this is a job, and I have to do it. I think it is important to keep that reason forefront in your mind. Write for the fun of it, test limits, and have fun doing it. The minute it stops being fun and starts feeling like an obligation or job, then you need to get back to the root of it. 

*Try to hone your craft. This means yeah write and post but also try to get better at it. None of us are at the pro level where we won’t learn new things or make mistakes. I don’t even think the “pro” published writers are at this level. Take the time to learn more about writing, English, grammar, the power of storytelling, different voices and styles, etc. This can only help you in your fanfic journey as well as your everyday life and future if you decide that you want to venture out of fanfic into self-pub or traditional pub. 

*Write for You. Write what you would want to read. Chances are there are countless other people who are into what you are but just haven’t voiced it. If you wanna make a story about Sam Wilson AU where he is an actual shapeshifting Falcon and he falls in love with a woman who thinks is normal but turns out to be a vigilante by night who has questionable morals and a pet unicorn that is her sidekick, WRITE IT. Don’t think will anyone like this or read it. Write It!

-Staying Encouraged-

This is tough and it’s hard for me to give advice on this because I can tell you how to do it but everyone has to find that thing that works for them to stay encouraged enough to keep going. This is a personal thing for everyone. 

A general answer I can give is when you get discouraged try to remember that nothing happens overnight. It takes time to build something, time, patience, and dedication to build readers or even get better. Try to keep in mind that if you stick to it, it’ll happen. Sort of the equivalent to “If you build it they will come”.

Also, try to look at those who have voiced interest and excitement or even support for you and your writing. It may be fifteen people or even three. Those three to fifteen people found you and really like what you offer, focus on that, wrap yourself in that, and keep going knowing those three to fifteen people will love what you put out.

Don’t focus on the numbers. This means the likes, reblogs, comments, or even followers. Don’t focus on it and get so wrapped up in it that it has power over you to make or break your day. Keep it in the mindset of “if you build it they will come”. It’ll happen.

These are the things that I can think of at the top of my head. I am sure there are other writers who can add on to this with a lot more advice and tips and I welcome anyone who has anything to add on to do so.

zuko is big on doubting himself. not only now as his abilities as the firelord, but just on himself and his past actions. his past actions are something that you can’t help him with since he was in the wrong, but you can help him see that he’s learned from his mistakes. you also constantly reassure him that he’s doing great at the head of the nation and you constantly hype him up when he’s in doubt.

Your POV

You walk inside the library and sit down at the small cafe set up in the lobby of the library and set up your laptop to watch and get a few ideas for your next fic. You smile at the sight of the long-haired but very handsome new librarian with his baby blue eyes and a gorgeous body to stare at throughout the day. As you stare your fingers begin to fly, an idea already forming in your head.

It only takes a few more hours before your first draft is completed and you take a break to grab a cup of coffee before moving on to edit your masterpiece, adding in a few more details and changing the story a bit before posting it on the internet for your fans to read.

After you make sure that you’ve posted your work, you pack up your laptop and head home to do some actual work before dinner, a bath and bed. You fall asleep, feeling satisfied with the work you completed that day.

Bucky’s POV

James Buchanan Barnes smiles as he walks into work that morning, feeling happy as he finished his fanfiction during breakfast after staying up late reading the rest of the authors work,  his mind delving deep into the fandom and lore that the new story has brought to light for him, still recovering after being in a frozen coma for so long, and missing out in so much.

He even made an account and subscribed to the author he enjoyed it so much. The brunette excited to see what else she’ll write about.

“I see someone’s happy to be at work today” Sam teases from behind the desk and takes a big swig from his coffee cup. “Haha Wilson, I see someone got the short end of the stick this week” Bucky replies back and leans against the desk as the start to talk about the Yankee game from last night. The sound of clacking begins to fill the air and Bucky turns to see who is typing so furiously, He blushes as he sees his mysterious patron who never checks out a book but comes to the library on a daily basis.

“Come on lover boy, stop ogling our patron and get to work” Natasha, the head librarian says as she comes out of the backroom, pushing a cart full of books, ready to be reshelved.

Bucky sighs as he silently takes the cart and pushes it past the mysterious patron. He only gets a glimpse of what she’s typing as he passes it, seeing only a few words he shrugs it off and heads to the Teen’s section and reshelves the book. By the time he comes back the patron is gone from her seat and is getting a coffee for herself. He sneaks a longer peek and smiles at the thought of her writing a fanfiction.

As he sees movement from the coffee bar he hurries behind the desk and grabs the next cart full of books. The man buries himself in reshelving books he doesn’t notice that she’s gone until his phone dings as he gets an email, informing him his new favorite author has posted another fanfiction. He decides to take his break and sits down in the breakroom, eating his tuna sandwich as he reads. Bucky Barnes comes to a realization halfway through and his jaw drops. “Holy shit….” He mumbles as his jaw drops, coming to the thought of what his mysterious patron was writing and slaps his forehead, at the realization of seeing himself as the antagonist in most of her recent fics, “How stupid could I be to not realize this sooner…..god damn it Bucky…” He mumbles and thinks of a plan to approach her the next day.

The next morning Bucky yawns as he walks in extra early, hoping to catch her before Natasha comes in and makes him go back to work, reshelving books.

She doesn’t appear that morning or the rest of the week as she’d gotten extremely sick with the flu and stayed home in bed, only writing one more chapter of her new story.

The female walks in, her (H/C) hair is in a tight bun as she sits at her table, setting up her laptop and taking out tissues for her post flu drip and begins to write another chapter for her new story.

Your POV

The man smiles as he quietly approaches her and sits across from her.

“Your last chapter was good….needed a little bit of grammar work but still good...Miss (Y/U/N)” He purrs and looks into your (Y/E/C) eyes as you stare at him, unable to understand how he discovered her secret pleasure.

“Oh? Well, excuse me! I was sick!” She hisses back at him, already tired as your still recovering from your sickness.

“I was just giving you input...geez…” Bucky mumbles and rubs the back of his head. “I’m James Barnes, my friends call me Bucky..” He says and offers his hand, giving you one of his classy smiles that just makes you melt. “I’m Y/F/N Y/L/N or just Y/P/N,” You say softly and shyly take his hand shaking it gently.

“Well Y/N...I think this is the start of a beautiful friendship…” Bucky says gently and winks at her, making her stomach twist and turn as they begin to chat and get to know each other.
