My mother took a reiki course about a decade ago specifically because she wanted to heal me of my fibromyalgia by 'treating' me with it.
Every few months I have to once again decline her latest offer of a session, and put up an interrogation of why I don't care about my healing.
My mom is nothing if not persistent.
Oh, and very gullible to any type of woo, that, too. Funny thing, though... being raised under the constant introduction and attempted application of the woo of the week pretty much teaches you that it's all inherently garbage.
My very favorite example is when she bought these self-hypnosis tapes to cure my insomnia. Pro tip for parents: if your 8yo *routinely* falls asleep between 3-5am *despite being desperate to sleep* because she's so exhausted, it might be something to see a medical Dr about.
PS yelling at her for doing the self-hypnosis 'wrong' is also, you know, kind of completely counterproductive.
PPS the mindset this gave me about my lifelong insomnia – I can remember having trouble falling asleep in the place we moved out of when I was 4 led to me seeking treatment for it last December, so at age 41. PPPS my current trazodone & melatonin combo is, for me, a miracle of epic proportions. I sleep 7+ hours 9/10 nights now. (Probably random nights of 0-4 hours on the other 1/10 is still bad, but I don't even care).

Clinical indications for hypnosis
Who might benefit from learning hypnosis – and when might you suggest it?
I’m a person who doesn’t really try changing my own pain intensity very often, and most of the people I’ve worked with in therapy are also in the stage of wanting to learn how to live alongside their pain. However, there are some times when modulating pain intensity can be a really helpful part of even this phase of…

One last thing I forgot to add yesterday. March 24th was mine and Miu's anniversary, and April 3rd was mine and Kaede's anniversary. I couldn't take Miu anywhere because my ceramics class had an open lab and I wanted to take advantage of that, but I will be taking her out probably sometime next week. IDK, we'll have to see.
