hype us up we’re gonna call another service dog program in the next couple of days (soon) and it would be super great if they think we are a good fit for the program cuz they provide service dogs at no cost and they pay for you traveling and staying at the facility for three weeks to train with the dog they chose for you!! This past week of refresher training has been such an eye-opening experience for me. You’re getting a brief glimpse into some of the things that we’ve been doing. Not necessarily the training side of things. Petland is A business that has help back Heartland K9s For Veterans and the HEAL. All of this week I’ve been working closely with Morgain refreshing my memory on commands for mobility. Of course toad knows his stuff so the refresher training is specifically for me. I’m making every effort and will continue to make every effort to work with Toad daily. The PTSD training that he has is an effortless bond that we have. The refresher training is not needed in that area at all. But due to surgeries, Covid, my lack of remembering commands this refresher training was necessary in order to utilize my service dogs fullest capabilities. This time has also been a reminder that he is not just a pet but he is medical device that can both physically and mentally enhance my life. If I don’t know or remember how I need to use him to his fullest capabilities then we are lacking as a SD Team. 14 trainers, 12 supporting family members, 6 fantastic new teams, 2 days, and 1 big dream. WE DID IT!!! When Covid19 cancelled our graduations I was lost for minute on how we would get these service dogs to the people who needed them NOW. And then, when I started pulling a graduation together, I was met with nothing but "how can we help". My trainers worked hard and the teams worked even harder. I am insanely proud of all of these people. Everything about this weekend was the reason I started this program. Chester in a bag! So Chess has been on house arrest (crate-bound) for a little over a week. He’s on two pain meds every 8 hours and has a steroid for muscle relaxation and an opiate for intense pain both on standby if needed, though I haven’t needed to give him either in about six days. He’s very alert, very responsive, and very bored. He gets let out for meal times and to either lay in one place for a while and chew or sleep, or to do a puzzle toy. We live on the ground floor but there are still three stairs to get to the lawn and he’s not allowed to use them without being carried. He cannot jump up for attention, onto the couch, or onto the bed. If we need to take him somewhere for some reason (like to his vet this morning) he rides in this bag. He’s not the biggest fan because he’d rather do it himself, but he goes with it most of the time. He’s very frustrated, but he’s also super compliant which is great. He really only makes noise when he thinks he’s missing out on something. Chester can’t tell that anything is wrong with him anymore, and that, I think, is the biggest challenge. But we’re getting there. Thank you so much to all of you for your prayers, thoughts, energy, and spoons. It means the world to us that you all are so incredibly loving. I know this community has its issues, but I, thankfully, have some great followers and some great friends here. Thank you, everyone.
