The Big Move - New Beginnings

Hi everyone!! Here’s my very last-minute entry for January of @yearofshance! the prompt was ‘New Beginnings’, so have physicist!Shiro and musician!Lance moving into a new house :’D

Sorry It’s so short! Next month’s will be longer, I promise!

It's weird, like a new pair of shoes.

The house doesn't feel lived in yet, doesn't quite have that warm aura that their studio flat in the centre of town did, but he can feel the potential each time he stomps up the stairs to dump another cardboard box in what will soon be their bedroom. He sees it when he sees Lance slumped in the doorway, tank top sweaty and forehead shining as he pulls in a box that's nearly overflowing with physics books and sheet music.

The piano's neatly in the corner when he meanders into the living room, Lance having laid out the rug before the workmen moved it in, and the bookcase is neatly tucked against the wall next to it. There's a slip of wallpaper taped between them, swatches of colour on every other wall, and second hand furniture covered in plastic covers awkwardly in the centre.

It's cluttered, kind of a mess to be honest if he thinks

If he weren't exhausted, he'd cry again.

"Takashi?"

Before Shiro can take the room in again, Lance pokes his head around the door, breaths heaving but a happy grin on his face.

"You okay?" He asks, and Shiro can't help the warm smile that immediately grows on his lips.

"Fine," he replies easily, walking over to Lance and taking him into his arms briefly to kiss a sweat-filmed forehead, "just a little sentimental, I'll be back with you in a minute."

Lance just laughs, responding by placing his hands against Shiro's chest. "It's fine, don't worry," he says with a grin, leaning in to press a replying kiss against Shiro's cheek, "I was just coming in to say we're nearly done, and if you wanted to take a break you could make some drinks."

With a click of his tongue, Shiro rolls his eyes affectionately, giving Lance's hips a squeeze. "Fine," he says with a mock sigh, earning a huff from Lance, "only because I love you."

"Damn right you should," Lance grumbles, before backing out of the door and spinning lightly on his feet, "we have like, three boxes left?"

Three boxes away from home, and Shiro couldn't be happier.

The workmen leave half an hour later once all the boxes are in and their empty coffee mugs lay discarded on the makeshift table. It's quiet now, particularly after being so used to the hubbub of the city; the Garrison compound seems almost peaceful in comparison, and it's easy to forget their little townhouse lies on the fringes of an important spacial defence unit.

Lance wasn't happy moving at first, but a promise of an actual music room to record in rather than the awful acoustics of their old cramped bedroom soon tided him over. It's nice, a huge room in the converted attic that's ready to be lined with wiring and acoustic pads, that Lance pretty much fell in love with the moment Shiro showed him in.

"So, how long do you think it'll take to shift all this shit?" Lance asks, poking Shiro in the calf with his foot whilst gesturing to the room full of boxes, "because I'm tired, babe."

"I know Lance, I know," Shiro replies with a tired grin, "god knows why though, seeing as I had to carry half the boxes in-"

That earns him a swat on the arm and a pout from Lance, but he can't help but grin.

"Sorry," he apologises, laughing quietly as Lance then shuffles into his side, ducking under his arm, "but honestly? We'll tackle it tomorrow, I don't think I can face it today."

Lance nods, leaning his head onto Shiro's shoulder and pressing a kiss into his jaw. "'Kay, that sounds like a plan," he agrees, "I can't be arsed to do anything more tonight anyway."

"Apart from blowing the air bed up."

Lance frowns again. "Apart from that."

"And we have to think about food," Shiro continues, and Lance grumbles quietly, "but I don't think the kitchen's fully installed yet."

There's a somewhat cheeky smile that suddenly forms on Lance's face, one that Shiro loves but knows that it always appears immediately before Lance says shit.

"Looks like we have no choice," he says slowly, rolling onto his knees to look Shiro dead in the face, "looks like we're gonna' have to order take out-"

"Babe, I swear," Shiro sighs, but he can't help the breathy laugh that escapes his lips, "I- fine, but you're paying."

Lance grins, before swooping in and pressing his lips against Shiro's joyously.

"Thank you," he says as he pulls away, before planting another kiss on Shiro's forehead, "burgers?"

Shiro grins, wrapping arms around Lance's waist. "Sounds brilliant."

I wish I'd known abt the year of Shance before the application deadline, but I'm EXCITED 2 see what other ppl come up with!!

#i thought it was just a general event at first but it seems like it's exclusive #like i never know how consistently i can make/post stuff but i was excited to have prompts to work with throughout the year #but that's ok I'm sure there will be other Shance events this year #text posts #already some good stuff coming out of the end of January 🖤💙👌😩

Keeping the Nightmares Away

Lance had had the occasional nightmare as a child, who hadn’t honestly, so having them while in space fighting against an alien tyrant hell bent on controlling the whole universe? At least some things were universal. As the nightmares persist, Lance takes to wandering the castle at night, and it appears he’s not the only one. After a chance run in with Shiro the two come to an agreement: If they can't sleep alone, why not try sleeping together.

If only things stayed as simple as they sounded.

so i’ve kept this blog pretty much just shance ever since i made it 3 years ago. but recent events, particularly this specific wave of the black lives matter movement, have been the catalyst for me to be more vocal on sideblogs like this one.

i’ve reblogged a few posts over the past couple of days with information and resources. even though i’ve barely been active since 2018, i still have more of an audience on this blog than my main blog. i want these resources to reach as many people as possible so i’ve been using all of my platforms to share and speak out. to me, something is better than nothing.

i put a link in my bio to this google doc masterlist of relevant events, petitions, places to donate, protest info, education resources, officials’ contact info, and more. again, that link is in my bio.

Golden Birthday

For as long as Shiro could recall, he would have the same series of recurring dreams. Not that he’d tell you that when he woke up because , as the moment he reached full consciousness, all memories of the visions would be gone.

However, while Shiro was in the dream, he’d remember it all. He could almost recite the events and conversations around him word for word. But even though he knew it was a dream when he was in them, everything felt so real. And familiar. Like he’d been there before.

Shance Holiday Gift Exchange

Hello, this is my Shance Holiday gift for @veilofemptyspace . I hope you like it! Happy Holidays!! I don’t have my laptop and have to post this from mobile, so I hope it doesn’t screw with the format or anything.

“Sleepy Grey”

Lance could feel his heart going crazy, thumping up a storm in his chest. He loved the holidays, and this year would be the amazing because he would be celebrating it with all of his friends. He’d been bummed that he couldn’t travel home to see his family, but Shiro had invited him, along with Hunk, Pidge, and Allura to his and Keith’s place for Christmas. Shiro was just nice like that.

Lance was of course excited to spend the day with his friends and felt warmth in his chest that Shiro wanted him to be there for such an important day. Shiro, who Lance had had a crush on basically since the moment he saw him stressing out about some homework in the library, but working diligently at it even through his frustration.

Since then, Lance had pined endlessly, unable to get Shiro’s beautiful eyes or strong arms out of his mind. Even the way he would raise one eyebrow and laugh when something amused him would release a bolt of electricity into Lance’s insides. At this point, Lance couldn’t do anything about his pounding heart and tingling stomach when Shiro did even the simplest, most normal things.

Lance knew there was no way Shiro liked him, he wasn’t even going to get his hopes up, and he definitely wasn’t going to go through the pain of getting rejected. Still, sometimes he couldn’t help but wonder if something would ever be possible between them. He always managed to stomp down the hope, though, so convinced that there was no way Shiro would ever even notice him.

Which is why Lance’s face was now burning red while his face screwed up in confusion, his nose and eyebrows scrunching a little bit. Shiro has just payed his head into Lance’s lap, snuggling as close to the young man as he could get. He’d had a bit too much of Hunk’s famous eggnog, his face dusted pink and his eyes drifting closed as he let out a contented sigh.

And, of course, Keith was standing at the entrance to the living room, doubled over with laughter at Lance’s predicament. Hunk and Pidge, though also amused, managed to hold back, hiding their giggles behind their hands. Allura had already passed out on the other couch, softly snoring away.

Lance didn’t know where to put his arms or how to move, so he ended up stuck with his arms in front of him, his eyes glued to his hero, SLEEPING... ON HIS LAP!

Eventually, Keith came to his rescue, waving his hand in front of Lance’s face, then moving Lance’s arms so his hands rested on Shiro’s shoulder rather than being held out awkwardly.

Hunk put on a movie, sitting beside Lance and getting comfortable on the couch. The others also sat down around the room, Pidge next to Allura and Keith on the other side of Shiro.

Even with the movie playing in the background, Lance couldn’t tear his attention away from the man sleeping so comfortably on him, every minuscule move Shiro made intensified in Lance’s mind.

Lance tried to calm his breathing, to slow his heart, to concentrate on the tv. He loved The Nightmare before Christmas, he could almost recite it by memory at this point.

After a few minutes, when Shiro released a happy hum, Lance realized that he had slowly started carting his hands through Shiro’s soft hair. His face warmed once again, but he didn’t stop. Shiro seemed happy and Lance loved the feel of his hair between his fingers. Nobody else seemed to notice.

Throughout the movie, Lance’s eyelids became heavier and heavier, his hand in Shiro’s hair slowing. Slowly, his heart finally calmed down, his breathing evening out, his eyes drifting shut into sleep.

Lance was warm. It was so comfortable and he felt safe. He couldn’t wake up now, not when everything was cozy. Yet, his brain was awake, wether he wanted it to be or not, and his body would eventually have to follow suit.

When he opened his eyes, the first thing he noticed was black and soft. A blanket? No, it was a shirt. A shirt worn by a broad chest. The chest was connected to a body, of course, Lance noted as his sight travelled up towards a face. A beautiful one. Shiro’s. His warm smile and soft grey eyes. Eyes that were open and looking directly at Lance. Lance, who’d been sleeping snuggled into Shiro’s side.

Lance’s face burst into flames, his ears felt so hot. He stammered out some kind of greeting, which sounded more like a squeal than anything else, but didn’t know what else to do. Luckily, Shiro did. He smiled at Lance, then pulled him close once again into a hug, where Lance fit snuggly against his broad chest. He released a sigh and in less than a minute, his breathing evened out. He was once again asleep.

Lance wanted to spend time thinking about what this meant, whether this meant that Shiro liked him or wanted to be with him, maybe he just thought of this as sleeping beside a brother? No, that couldn’t be right, he was cuddling Lance. Oh well, nothing Lance could do about any of the questions he had now. He might as well just enjoy it while he could. And so, he slept.

-What the hell was I on in September and how do I get my hands on it again XD I went fucking insane that month doing Sapphic September twice over + a ship week. YIKES. But also like, NEVER AGAIN, I remember I was so burned out halfway through Kinktober after that and struggled to finish kinktober’s list, then I went offline for a few months and didn’t write for just as long, but also some real life shit was going down so it’s all blurred together XD

-Still kinda bummed that S8 killed my VLD buzz cos writing for that fandom was so much fun and I miss it, I was gonna try get back into it this year, but then found out that even previously non-toxic corners of the fandom are toxic now and nope, killed my buzz all over again.

-STILL NO BBC MERLIN?!?!?! omg was 2017 really the last time I wrote for that fandom??????? Also no Star Trek, I really thought 2018 was the year I wrote that but I guess my memory is still shit XD must have been 2017 wow, but at least there’s still new fandoms for when I get around to making a 2017/2016 list XD which will luckily be smaller cos I wrote fewer but longer fics in 2016/2017

-Overall, like 2019, 2018 was a bad year for me in terms of word count. I guess it was the beginning of my health really affecting my ability to write and my shift to accommodate for that by writing shorter things instead of trying and failing to write long fics like I used to (altho actually I think that started in 2017 really, guess I need to make the list to see XD). I’m still pretty proud though, cos I always wanted to write more sapphic content and doing sapphic september was something I didn’t think I’d manage but I did it 2x over =) and then off the heels of that success, I did Femslash Feb for HP in 2019 and some of Sapphic Sept 2019 too

-Kinktober was also super fun, even though I was a big ball of anxiety the whole time and burning out pretty badly after September. But I really got outside of my comfort zone to write several things I not only hadn’t written before, but also don’t even personally like XD I wrote a couple of my squicks and that was an interesting experience. I also gained a few new kinks, also an interesting experience XD

hey guess what? this girl participated in the shance valentine event this year by @shance-cafe / @shancesupportsquad! my valentine giftee is @greenemeraldjoy and the prompt i used was gender bender! joy, i really hope you enjoy this and i hope you had an amazing valentines day!

here’s a lil fic in which lana (fem!lance) and takami (fem!shiro) pretend to be a couple to get a discount at their local restaurant but end up developing feelings for each other

It seemed like Valentines day in itself, was hard for couples and single people alike. Couples had to find gifts for each other and plan a whole day of festivities while the single people of the world had to watch in envy, only to be figuratively spit in the face by the constant ads playing on TV about romantic getaways or jewelers trying to convince you to propose right that second.

Lana, however single she may be during this romantic holiday, found a charm in spending the day with your significant other. Although many believe it to be a capitalist holiday, only to bring in revenue for companies, there was just something special about showering your lover with compliments and all the things you love about them. Sure, it made her feel sad to see another Valentines day fly past her, but seeing her friends happy and in healthy relationships made her feel slightly better. However happy she was about her friends, she still couldn’t quell the jealousy in her heart. It didn’t help that Katie, Lana’s self-proclaimed rival and semi-friend had a date with her friend Honey, and Pidge had a date with her old crush Alfor. So although Lana absolutely adored this holiday, it hurt to see all of her friends on dates and not being able to even hang out with them.

So just as she was about to change into some sweatpants and binge eat some ice cream, her phone chimed:

Takami ❤︎, 5:47pm: Hey, are you busy?

Me, 5:48pm: depends, why???

Takami ❤︎, 5:50pm: So, this might sound really dumb, but that restaurant next to Honey’s apartment is doing a 15% discount and a free dessert if you’re on a date

Takami ❤︎, 5:50pm: Do you want to pretend to be a couple to get some food?

Lana sucked in her breath. She knew that Takami was just trying to get a deal, but she couldn’t help the small jump her heart made when she read the texts. It was a known fact that Takami was extremely pretty and terribly kind, and it was a lesser known fact that Lana had the biggest crush on her. So reading that Takami, instead of choosing one of the many people who had the courage to ask her to be their valentine, she decided that she’d rather spend her night with Lana, over a candlelit dinner that was sure to be awkward. Just as she was about to tell her she couldn’t make it, her phone interrupted her:

Takami ❤︎, 5:55pm: Don’t feel pressured into it, it’s not a big deal, you probably have plans

Me, 5:55pm: no! i don’t!

Me, 5:56pm: i’d love to go to dinner with you!

Takami ❤︎, 5:58pm: Great! I’ll pick you up around 6:30 :)

As Lana put her phone down, she immediately felt the panic set in. Jumping up from her couch, she ran into her bedroom, throwing out tons of clothing options while wondering why she ever did this to herself.

6:30pm seemed to roll around quicker than Lana expected, as the sound of her doorbell alerted her of Takami’s presence. Running over to the door, she quickly unlocked her door, revealing a smiling Takami.

“You look nice,” Takami said, cheerfulness seeping through her tone.

Lana felt herself heat up slightly. Rubbing the back of her neck, she laughed. “Thanks, you too,”

Takami offered her arm, an eyebrow raised. “Ready to go?”

When Lana took her arm her smile grew even larger. Making sure to lock the door, the pair walked arm in arm over to the restaurant, talking the entire way about their friends and what they were probably doing now.

It felt natural to Lana, talking to Takami like this. Of course, they’ve been friends for a while, so talking was easy for the two of them, but she thought that it’d be more awkward since they were pretending to date just so they could get a cheaper meal. She shouldn’t be so shocked, though, as anytime Takami was with anyone, she always knew a way to make them relax and to feel at ease. So by the time they reached the restaurant, Lana only felt that they’d been talking for a couple of minutes, not for the thirty long minutes that she was dreading.

The building was packed with couples, which was expected. It took them about forty-five minutes to finally get seated and to get the discount all prepared. Once they were seated and ready to order, Lana had a hard time actually focusing on the menu itself and not the person sitting right across from her. Eventually, though, she figured out what she wanted to order and told the waiter without looking like a foolish mess. When the waiter left them alone, however, she wasn’t sure of what to do next.

Takami seemed to notice her nervousness, as she placed her hand on top of Lana’s, a soothing smile on her face. “Relax, there’s no need to be nervous.”

Lana almost wanted to scoff. As if sitting across from her crush pretending to be her date would make her feel tranquil. Instead of that, she nodded her head, taking in a deep breath. When she finally relaxed was when she noticed Takami’s hand over hers. She could feel the heat rushing back to her cheeks, which caused her to turn away entirely. The faint sound of Takami sighing didn’t go unnoticed by her, which made her feel worse. She almost wanted to apologize and leave, and she probably would’ve, if Takami hadn’t spoke:

“Hey, did you know that Katie called me at four in the morning to ask me whether or not boiled heavy cream was supposed to be lumpy?”

Lana’s head snapped towards Takami, her eyebrows furrowed in both confusion and disbelief. “Are you serious?”

She nodded her head, a small smirk playing onto her lips. “She FaceTimed me because she thought something looked off,” Pulling out her phone, she showed her some pictures, “It was really sad to see this.”

“How did she think that lumpy heavy cream was okay?”

Takami shrugged her shoulders, not even bothering to defend her friend. “She’s lactose intolerant, she doesn’t know.”

Lana snorted at that, unable to hold in her giggles any longer. Takami soon joined her and for five minutes the pair just laughed at their disaster of a friend.

For the rest of the evening they continued to talk about both their friends and their lives, with Takami telling Lana about volunteering at a pet shelter and her job as a physical therapist and Lana telling Takami about her job at a daycare and having to deal with children everyday. They talked so long that by the time they finished, the bill had already been paid and they were on their way out.

As much fun as Lana had, she couldn’t help but feel a pang of sadness hit her heart at the thought of this ending. She knew that they weren’t on a real date, but in the moment she could at least pretend. So as they walked out of the restaurant, her attitude had somewhat deflated. For the walk back to her apartment, it was relatively silent, with the occasional comment from Takami about how chilly it was.

Once they’d reached her apartment, Lana took out her keys and unlocked her door. Turning to face Takami, she smiled.

“Thanks for the meal, it was nice not being alone for Valentine’s Day,” She put on a coy smile, “Even if it was a fake date.”

Takami didn’t seem to be that happy about it, if anything, she seemed a bit sad when those words came out of Lana’s mouth. She tilted her head, moving to rub her arm.

“Hey, is something wrong?”

It took a couple of seconds for Takami to respond. “Would it be wrong if I said that I wanted this to be a real date but chickened out at the last second?”

Lana felt her eyes widen slightly. Looking at Takami, she noticed the prominent blush on her face, that seemed to extend to the tips of her ears. “What do you mean?”

“I mean,” She started, clearing her throat awkwardly, “I like you and I wanted to ask you to be my valentine, but instead I asked you to be my fake date.”

When Lana didn’t respond Takami quickly stuttered out a response, “I know it’s weird, I’m sorry but I just felt that I should get that off of my chest because, you know, people always say that you’ll regret it if you don’t say anything, but—“

Before she could go off on a tangent, Lana cut her off by pressing a sweet kiss to her lips. It tasted like the tiramisu that they ate previously and was too quick for Takami’s liking. When they pulled away, she stared at the other girl in amazement, almost as if she’d just told her all the secrets of the world. Lana simply smiled, absolutely adoring the lovestruck face that Takami was currently wearing.

Turning towards her door, she opened it slightly, looking back at Takami. “Well, why don’t you come inside and we can watch some awful romcoms and count that as our first real date?”

Smiling, Takami nodded, walking in right after Lana. As the other girl went to get both a pair of clothes for herself and Takami, she called out:

“If you’re good, then maybe I’ll share my ice cream with you!”

Okay darlings, you were waiting for it and it finally arrived! I'm sorry for all the time we spent on organizing this, but we wanted to hear your prompts for this event. I will tell you this: they're coming soon.

However, we're currently in January. With the little time left, there will be only one prompt for this month, so you can spend some time doing details - although remember that it's the intention behind your work that counts.

And this month's prompt will be…

New Beginnings

We're in January, this is the beginning of a new year. It's the best time to make a closure on what happened in the past (while keeping in mind good memories). The best moment to do a fresh start.

The prompt "New Beginnings" seemed perfect to start this event and possibly heal after what happened. Giving a chance to a new start, come clean and take the time to heal. There's always a first step to anything.

No matter what you'll do, we're here to support you! It doesn't have to be in the Voltron timeline, or even in the Voltron universe I guess - but if you want to use it as closure for season 8 (as long as you respect Curtis and don't put him down), you can. We won't stop you.

Oh my sweet wonderful dear anon, YES! Yes. Yes. YES! (also pare with my the character roles are going to get a bit jumbled through like everyone else, and with just slight adjustments to Monica and Chandler)

Lance and Shiro being across the neighbors for years. But they also knew each other before, because Lance was enemies friends with Keith, Shiro’s “adoptive” brother (there are no signed papers but everyone just knows it to be fact), so they’ve known each other for years. Lance also totally got scored his grandmother’s apartment (rent controlled and a just a blessing), while Shiro and Keith just happened to score the apartment across the hall.

And like they are all good friend, everyone has a key…but also what are locks or knocking between them. Hunk makes breakfast everyone morning, and Keith and Shiro can only cook like three meals each and not mess it up. Shiro got a boring nine-to-five desk job, and basically survives off sarcasm and caffeine to get by most of the time. (Occasionally a cigarette, but Lance…and everyone else really gets on him about it). But Shiro’s life is kind of mess, he tries, but like there is no getting out the hole sometimes. Lance works in restaurants and just trying to find his little niche in the restaurant world. He’s not a chief, but he words in restaurant management, and event planing, cause people, but he has a way about things. He is also a mess, but like in a different way, and it’s totally fine.

For a while they never thought of each other as anything other than friends. Until they got across the sea for Allura’s wedding (which is a mess because Lotor is a real dickface). But they totally sleep together. And you know, it was nice. (it was way more than just nice.) They were on vacation, just like a one time thing…that they did like five times…over seas. But one one time can’t hurt, Lance still hasn’t techincally unpacked all the way yet, (and Hunk went with Allura on the Honeymoon cause she had it all booked up, why waste it, and he needed a break). Except on more time turns into a lot more times, and oh secret dating is fun, guess it’s been like four months now.

Hunk is the first on to find out, and they beg him not to tell, while he whined about it because he’s so happy for them. And by some miracle he manages it, then Allura finds out. Followed by Pidge (it’s literally the scene where Phoebe finds out, because it is just perfect for Pidge), and lastly Keith, who is both mad and happy about it. (But the threats totally really come from Veronica when she finds out..because what the hell man!) And then they start to date more openly, and are just sweethearts and dorks. They move in together (and honestly Lance it’s not that bad, Hunk is just moving right across the hall), then get engaged, then married, and are just so in love.

The two are a happy married couple that balance each other out so well, and try to be the most helpful and supportive spouses they can be for each other. (Literally some of my favorite scenes from Friends revolve around Chandler and Monica with they are married.) At one point Shiro quiets his job to follow a dream job that he is good at., and Lance takes a job at a new upcoming place that he basically gets to shape from the ground up. Then they eventually adopt some kids and move out of the city to raise their family.

Also can I add that Lance as Chandler and Shiro as Monica is beautiful trip to think about too.
