Anyway i went to see a Sherlock Holmes play today and they did the fucking 'Sherlock/irene' shit.
I mean, at least the guy that wrote this one wrote her more accurately than any other version I've seen, but still
So sick of every. Single. Adaptation. Making her Sherlocks love interest.

'You need to understand,' I tell my brother with a manic look in my eyes, 'that, as a community, we were used to queerbaiting. We were used to crumbs. If a show had two semi-attractive male leads with a minimum of chemistry, we shipped them. Yeah, sure, it could be cringe, but it's not like we had a lot of queer characters to obsess over.
'And most of us were girls, right, or at least were subjected to media aimed at girls all our lives, and we were trained to recognize romance. We know the story beats, the dialogue, the framing, the language used in media that says this is a romantic scene. And then, there was a decade or two where all the stories were about male friendship (but let's be honest all the stories are about male friendship since bloody Gilgamesh and Enkidu, but don't get me started on that)-- and anyway, they kept using all those framing devices for romance to talk about friendship. The silences, the stares, the jokes, the sacrifices and promises and-- you get what I mean. So of course we shipped the hell out of these guys.
'And if they really wanted us to ship straight couples, maybe they should have given bigger roles to women, huh. But that was the scene: great shows with a male lead and his best friend, and they were all interesting and handsome and they faced adversity together, and overall had the most romantic story arcs without being romantically together. Yeah, I know you've seen the Winter Soldier.
'So we were pretty okay with crumbs. We made mountains out of crumbs. It was fine, relatively speaking.
'And then there was Sherlock,' I say, waving at the tv, where episode one is on pause on a frame of John Watson licking his lips while he asks Sherlock if he has a boyfriend. 'That show brought it all to eleven. The handsomeness, the chemistry, the drama, the stares. The jokes about them being a couple, so many jokes. You know that haha are you a married couple is a romance trope, right?
'The actors made acting choices that hinted at attraction, and the directors kept those choices and framed them in images and music and timing-- because everything in a show is a choice. Those are the choices they made.
'So of course we went crazy.
'And the people who made that show loved the attention. They had fun with us, until it was too much for them. And then they started making fun of us.
'I think it kinda broke us, as a community. Because we loved the show, and the characters, and the actors, and the writers. And the show kept framing the story in a way that said "You're right! This is a romance!"
'And then the interviews went from hinting at romance to plainly mocking us. Haha those silly fangirls, they see gay stuff, but Shelock Holmes isn't gay, what are they thinking, huh. Silly little girls.
'I'll be honest, it hurt. And it's not like there was a lot of queer media to focus on either, at least not mainstream, well produced shows like that. It took many years after that whole debacle to get canon queer characters. We're still all surprised that Our Flag Means Death had a real kiss.
'So yeah,' I sigh, looking at the paused tv, 'imagine, in an era where queerbaiting was the norm, to become the one show that became synonymous with queerbaiting.'
I unpause.
"It's fine, it's all fine," says the tv.
'Yeah right,' I scoff.

Detectives Love- Chapter 1
Pairing: Henry!Shelock Holmes x Female!reader
Chapter summary: When you visit Enola to give your condolences, you meet her brother, Sherlock, who makes you fee a certain way.
Quote: none
Tumblr media
You were walking along the path toward the Holmes mansion with a basket of food in hand. You were dropping off some food for Enola as you heard what had happened to her mother. You had known Enola for a few years now. She was an intelligent and unique young woman, you envied the way she would act and do want she wanted, all with her mother’s support.
You had grown up in a completely different environment than Enola. Your parents raised you to be a lady of society and told you your entire life that you would marry a respectable man. Although Enola was much younger than you, you both got along quite well and became close very quickly.
You reached her house and gently knocked on the door patiently waiting for someone to answer the door.
“Y/n, how lovely it is to see you again. You haven’t visited it in quite a while.” Mrs. Lane says after opening the door and ushering you inside.
As you step into the house you reply, “I know it has been long since I came here, but I’ve been terribly busy. I have brought some food for Enola, I heard about Mrs. Holmes and came to see if she was alright.”
“How very kind of you. Miss Holmes is upstairs.”
“Thank you.” You say gently smiling at Mrs. Lanen before walking up the stairs.
When you reach the top you hear voices, but not of Enola, of two men. You quickly remember Enola telling you briefly about having two brothers, but she did not mention them much.
You walk towards the sound coming from Eudoria’s room and see Enola standing at the doorway.
“Enola.” You say just loud enough for her to hear. Enola quickly turns around and sees you.
“Y/n! How are you? What brings you here?” Enola asks smiling slightly.
“I’m very well, thank you for asking. I came here to see how you were doing. I heard about mother, I’m truly very sorry. And I brought you a few things to eat as well” You say handing Enola the basket which she gratefully takes. Your eyes slowly avert from Enola to a man who had a mustache and a look that didn’t look very pleasant. Then you looked to someone who was slightly closer to you and Enola. He was tall and handsome and had a curious look on his face as if he were analyzing you. Enola noticed your eyes shift to her brothers and remembered she still needed to introduce them.
“Oh yes! Y/n, these are my brothers, Mycroft and Sherlock.” Enola says motioning to her brothers.
“ Hello, Mr. Holmes and Mr. Holmes,” You said laughing the slightest bit that you had to call them the same name.
“This is Y/n. She lives not far from here.”
They don’t say anything, Mycroft is simply looking at you and Sherlock smiled slightly at you. You felt rather flustered with his stare and hurriedly looked away and back to Enola.
“Well, that is all I came for. I must be leaving now. Please Enola do tell me if you need anything. It was a pleasure meeting you.” You say turning towards her brothers and after Enola tells you goodbye you walk away back to your house with Sherlock for some odd reason being on your mind. There was something about him that made your heart flutter.

let’s have dinner | sherlock holmes
part one | part two
pairing: sherlock holmes x fem!reader
summary: as sherlock’s neighbor and friend, you’ve spent quite a bit of time with the detective and developed feelings for him. unfortunately for you, however, his heart belongs to another. (based off this request by anon.)
warnings: angst, unrequited love, jealous + sad reader, no dialogue
word count: 1.0k
a/n: not sure if i like how this turned out, but i hope it’s as sad and angsty as you wanted, anon!
Tumblr media
the familiar moan of sherlock’s text alert sounded again, the lewd exclamation breaking the otherwise silent environment of 221b baker street. it got on your nerves, to say the least. you wished he would just change it already; it was obscene and embarrassing for everyone within hearing range, and, of course, the fact that it was the sound of another woman’s pleasure attached to sherlock’s person at all times felt like a stone had taken permanent residence in the pit of your stomach.
you briefly glanced at the phone screen where it had been carelessly tossed onto the coffee table as sherlock went about some gruesome experiment in the kitchen that had to do with human fingers, of all things. you grimaced at the thought before directing your attention to the woman’s message:
let’s have dinner.
the same message that she always seemed to send to sherlock from what you had heard in passing.
maybe it was a code of sorts, a secret phrase between the pair that only they knew, though you had a sinking feeling that she meant just that: “let’s have dinner.”
she was asking him out to dinner—again.
you were jealous, yes, and you hoped it wasn’t obvious, but it seemed as though nothing escaped the famous consulting detective’s notice. he had never mentioned anything to you about it, however, and for that, you were eternally grateful. you couldn’t stand the idea of him confronting you about your feelings for him.
you were sure he had plenty of eligible candidates just begging for his attention—practically lined up along baker street on most days, actually, each claiming they had potential cases for him only to expose their true intention once they got a foot in the door. of course, most of the crowd possessed similar crushes on the man, though he never gave anyone the time of day. whether he was aware of their sentiments or not, he never took it upon himself to flirt back or request a date with anyone who had shown any interest in him. even molly hooper had been snuffed, poor girl. you knew how much she idolized the man, it was blatantly obvious with how she looked at him and spoke to him, well, everyone aside from sherlock, it seemed. the man was practically blind to love in all its entirety, never taking the time of day for molly or you or who knew who else, that is, until irene adler came into the picture.
you were shelock and john’s neighbor in the flat just above them, frequently visiting the pair if only for something to do. they were certainly the most interesting people you had ever come across, and they always offered you a sense of camaraderie and belonging, something to break up the loneliness of your otherwise dreary life. sure, you couldn’t exactly offer much help in any of their cases, but it was still fun to be included, to be acknowledged and spoken to at the very least.
you had lived a relatively normal, dull, and lonely life. no friends, no family in the area; a boring job with not-so-friendly coworkers. so, to have this little pocket of friendship to look forward to every day was just what you needed. you finally felt like you were part of something bigger than just yourself, like you didn’t have to be cursed to live out your days alone. it was a refreshing change, and you certainly wouldn’t find anyone more thrilling and entertaining than the sherlock holmes. not everyone could say they were neighbors and friends with the famous detective.
maybe you could start up your own blog like john, or write a book about their adventures. surely, someone would be intrigued to learn more about their day-to-day lives. you certainly would be if you weren’t exposed to it on a daily basis. you considered yourself awfully lucky to be in such a position, having a roof over your head and hot meals on the table and friendships to share it all with among the other tenants.
it was nice, really nice—up until sherlock and irene became acquainted with one another. once she came into the picture, it was like you no longer existed, like your presence over the past year while living at 221b baker street was merely a figment of your imagination.
you didn’t blame sherlock for falling for the woman with all the secrets, not in the least. she was alluring and intelligent, fiercely confident and stunning in an almost otherworldly fashion; anyone would be crazy not fall for her, so you understood—truly, you did—but that didn’t make it hurt any less.
one morning, you dropped by sherlock’s flat only to find irene seated on the arm of his chair, one lithe arm draped across his shoulders as the other traced patterns along his chest, fingers toying with the buttons of his deep purple shirt—your favorite one, actually.
your footsteps faltered as you crossed the threshold, breath caught in your throat and jealousy festering in your stomach like a disease upon seeing the pair so comfortable, so intimate with each other in a way that you would never have with him.
honestly, you had never really imagined sherlock would ever be in that sort of relationship with another, always claiming that he was far too busy with cases—“married to his work,” he had said—for something as distracting as an intimate relationship. but it seemed he had finally found ‘the one,’ and she wasn’t you and would never be you.
god, you felt so stupid. why did you ever think the famous sherlock holmes would like you of all people. you were a nobody, you didn’t matter, not like irene adler did.
it all made sense that they would end up together, after all, the pair possessed similar levels of intellect—always challenging each other and eliciting a spark of interest, like a game of sorts—of which you clearly lacked and oftentimes found yourself out of the loop when sherlock quickly jumped from one thought to the next, expecting both you and john to catch up.
you envied them, plain and simple. you envied something you could never have with the one person who would never be yours.
so, you did what any logical girl caught in a one-sided tragedy would do: you swallowed down your disappointment, turned around, and made your way back up the stairs to the cold emptiness of your flat.
maybe you weren’t cut out for this whole love thing anyway.

Romance Roundup: Part 2
the full list:
loved | liked | okay | didn't like
●Captive Prince Trilogy by C.S. Pacat     ○Captive Prince     ○Prince's Gambit     ○Kings Rising     ○The Summer Palace  ●Whyborne and Griffin Series by Jordan L. Hawk (there are like 11 of these in total, but this is as far as i got. this is not the only reason i stopped, but this series does contain a sex scene wherein sliding back the foreskin is described as "peeling". and i just. i simply don't think you should peel a dick. i don't think it's good for them.)     ○Widdershins     ○Eidolon     ○Threshold  ●Sweet Disorder by Rose Lerner  ●Sailor's Delight by Rose Lerner  ●Something Human by A.J. Demas  ●Doomsday Books by KJ Charles     ○The Secret Lives of Country Gentlemen     ○A Nobleman's Guide to Seducing a Scoundrel
●Old Bridge Inn Series by Annick Trent     ○Beck and Call     ○The Oak and the Ash  ●10 Things That Never Happened by Alexis Hall  ●Boyfriend Material by Alexis Hall (okay, listen, the first chapter hits you with a high concentration of cringe, and is therefore difficult to read. but the cringe concentration lessens considerably as you go along, and this ended up being one of my faves.)  ●Husband Material by Alexis Hall (again with the cringe, but it's not a strong enough book otherwise to make up for it, imo. the first book stands up great without having to bother with the sequel)  ●The Secret Diaries of Miss Miranda Cheever by Julia Quinn  ●Bridgerton Series by Julia Quinn     ○The Duke and I     ○The Viscount Who Loved Me (there are six more of these, but i simply couldn't go on)
●The Mystery of Nevermore by C.S. Poe  ●Turner Series by Cat Sebastian     ○The Soldier's Scoundrel     ○The Lawrence Browne Affair     ○The Ruin of a Rake     ○A Little Light Mischief  ●The Last Binding by Freya Marske (these are kissing books, but i didn't like the actual romances so much as the. like. plot.)     ○A Marvellous Light     ○A Restless Truth     ○A Power Unbound  ●Lucky Lovers of London by Jess Everlee     ○The Gentleman's Book of Vices     ○A Rulebook for Restless Rogues  ●A Taste of Gold and Iron by Alexandra Rowland  ●His Heart's Obsession by Alex Beecroft  ●Seducing the Sedgwicks by Cat Sebastian     ○It Takes Two to Tumble     ○A Gentleman Never Keeps Score     ○Two Rogues Make a Right  ●Hard Sell by Hudson Lin  ●Green Men World by KJ Charles     ○The Secret Casebook of Simon Feximal (can be read as a stand-alone. is also not really a romance, per-se, although they sure do fuck. more like if shelock holmes had been a ghost-hunter, and watson had told us about all the sex they were having)     ○Spectred Isle (n.b. this was meant to be the first book in a series that is on hold indefinitely, though i enjoyed it plenty on its own)
●Winterbourne series by Joanna Chambers (there's one more novella in this series but none of my libraries has it)     ○Introducing Mr. Winterbourne     ○Mr. Winterbourne's Christmas     ○The First Snow of Winter  ●The Vicar and the Rake by Annabelle Greene  ●The Gentleman and the Spy by Neil S. Plakcy  ●The Lord and the Frenchman by Neil S. Plakcy  ●Unfit to Print by KJ Charles  ●Brook Street by Ava March  ●Enlightenment Trilogy by Joanna Chambers     ○Provoked     ○Beguiled     ○Enlightened     ○The Bequest (epilogue novella)  ●Unnatural by Joanna Chambers  ●Restored by Joanna Chambers  ●Society of Gentlemen by KJ Charles (another one where the whole series is worthwhile for the story, even if i didn't love all of the romances. the characters are endearing and there's an excellent little series epilogue availble on the author's website)     ○The Ruin of Gabriel Ashleigh (prequel novella)     ○A Fashionable Indulgence     ○A Seditious Affair     ○A Gentleman's Position
●Something Fabulous by Alexis Hall  ●Hither, Page by Cat Sebastian  ●The Missing Page by Cat Sebastian  ●Sins of the Cities by KJ Charles     ○An Unseen Attraction     ○An Unnatural Vice     ○An Unsuitable Heir  ●Red, White and Royal Blue by Casey McQuiston  ●Bright Falls series by Ashley Herring Blake (I'm still on a waitlist for the third book, which just came out)     ○Delilah Green Doesn't Care     ○Astrid Parker Doesn't Fail  ●Fake it 'til You Make Out by Isla Olsen  ●The Lady's Guide to Celestial Mechanics by Olivia Waite  ●The Care and Feeding of Waspish Widows by Olivia Waite  ●The Lilywhite Boys by KJ Charles     ○The Rat-Catcher's Daugher (prequel novella)     ○Any Old Diamonds     ○Guilded Cage     ○Masters in this Hall (sequel novella)  ●England World by KJ Charles     ○Proper English     ○Think of England  ●Will Darling Adventures by KJ Charles     ○Slippery Creatures     ○The Sugared Game     ○Subtle Blood
●The Lady's Secret by Joanna Chambers  ●A Charm of Magpies series by KJ Charles     ○The Magpie Lord     ○A Case of Possession     ○Flight of Magpies  ●Other KJ Charles book linked to the Magpies world     ○A Queer Trade     ○Rag and Bone     ○Jackdaw  ●Wanted, A Gentleman by KJ Charles  ●The Gentle Art of Fortune Hunting by KJ Charles  ●A Thief in the Night by KJ Charles (novella linked to Gentle Art)  ●Band Sinister by KJ Charles  ●Unmasked by the Marquess by Cat Sebastian  ●A Duke in Disguise by Cat Sebastian

As a fan of Yuumori, can I ask your top 5 (or top 3) favorite characters from Moriarty the Patriot? And why you loved them? And your top 5 favorite moments from the series? Thanks if you want to answer....
HELL FUCKING YEAH I WANNA ANSWER THANK YOU
fav characters:
1. William James Moriarty: He's such a wonderfully complex character, I love his arc throughout the manga and I love everything about him he's my babygirl fr
2. Sherlock Holmes: RAAAAAAAAH I LOVE HIIIIIIM HE'S SUCH A BASTARD /pos a wet cat of a man but I love him
3. James Bonde/Irene Adler: I loved Irene and then James Bonde shows up who's even cooler GOD. I'm weak for a guy like Bonde (not romantically tho LMAO rip)
4. Miss Hudson: girlboss! I love her she cares so much for Sherlock and John and Adler/Bonde and she's not afraid to put someone in their place (especially Sherlock). The glue that holds Baker Street together
5. John Watson: He's so kind! And a great guy! He's so much fun to watch and he's such a great part of the cast
top moments:
1. The Final Problem's fall: GOOOOOOOOD. WHAT MORE CAN I SAY JUST WATCH AND READ THE SCENE. He doesn't hesitate to jump in after him and auuuuugh I think about it so much
2. "William returns" manga scene: I think about this non-fucking-stop. It's the scene he arrives on horseback to help Shelock and Billy and him and Sherlock fight together and then ask each other to live together. It's beautiful It's showstopping I want to eat drywall
3. The document exchange between Irene, Albert, and Sherlock: It's such a great scene. Sherlock is scared for Irene but knows her going to the Lord of Crime is her safest option; Irene is unsure if she's going to live from this but is still willing to go through with the exchange no matter what bc of the power she saw; Albert presenting the deal to Sherlock William thought of about the name in the letter as a means of trust, and Sherock later burning the letter as a show of his confidence and trust within the Lord of Crime/William to keep his friend safe. The entire arc with Irene/Bonde's birth is one of my fav arcs
4. The Train: it's so fun, so flirty! I am always floored by this bit it's so good! The meet, the flirting. The "catch me if you can", the murder mystery. I would show this scene to anyone who asked me what mtp is
5. The Noahtic meet: You can pinpoint the exact moment the entire narrative shifts. The moment William is nailed for looking at the staircase for the golden ratio is that moment. It's wonderful. I love it so much
