A Mantleoid Funeral mantleoids are a huge part of the lives of northern olyrm and will live to see 3-4 generations. Mantleoids live to be roughly 70-80 years whereas olyrm may only live to be 30-40. And when they're adults basically nothing is able to take one down. This is all to say a mantleoid's passing is a very rare event in northern settlements and is a time to celebrate the many lives spent together, friend to friend. Days before the passing the townsfolk working outside the walls will note a lethargy in the mantleoid's movement that is beyond their usually quite slow nature, and report it to the elder. From then they will begin preparing flowers and gifts for it up until the day it goes down and never rises again. Everyone who had 'known' the mantleoid in its life will drop everything and be excused from their daily work and schooling to bring the gifts and join everyone else to decorate its body and surroundings with flowers, grains, and other things they wish to thank it with. They will stay with the mantleoid until before the sun rises the next morning, Its body is left unburied but they will watch after it and chase away scavengers until it decays enough to take the mantle off and bring it to its olyrm family. These are kept in the home in important formal areas where others can appreciate them. Like you would keep framed photos of your family. as a kid in hs, my teacher literally came up to me, holding my 40 page essay on the intersection of the European witch hunts and capitalism/exploitation/gender roles (it was supposed to be 7 pages...whoops) and went like "this is literally a master's-degree level thesis. what are you doing?? you could literally use this as your final dissertation in a master's program, what the fuck."
