More Levi and Historia parallels: “I promised...”moments.
I always noticed how uncannily similar these two scenes where. Both Levi and Historia make open promises to their loved ones in their most desperate moments, so much so they even risk death just to fulfil said promises (well, not in Levi’s case, since he’s Levi).
So I have compiled together some screenshots from the anime to showcase their parallels and similarities. One or two clips have been omitted, but the general gist of the scenes are still there.
1. That vapid, shocked expression - pure, total denial that what is transpiring before their weary eyes is actually happening.
Levi particularly looks very horrified, like he has seen a ghost or something (and the blood mask doesn't help either with his look of horror). .
2. Forcing their bodies to act.
We get a close-up shot of Hisu moving in her rather stylish boots (seriously. where she get those), whereas Levi asks himself a question: “Hey. Where are you going?” to shake himself out of his stupor (while still looking very stylish in his Survey Corps cape, might I add).
3. Hold on moments!
Here, they both say “Hold on” to some various degree. Now they’ve both forced their bodies to act, yet all they can do now is blabber like little children that they won’t get to fulfil the promises they made to both Ymir and Erwin, respectively, and boy do they both look and sound so fragile (even Levi with his war paint).
4. Getting closer to the heart of those sweet promises they made...
We get a wider shot of Hisu as she runs to her friend’s aid, reminding her of the deal they made... Whereas we still have a close-up shot of Levi looking like a lost puppy, remembering his vow to Commander Erwin.
5. The final “I promised!” moments.
Both characters openly declare their promises, while sounding so heartfelt and passionate.
They both look so emotional and torn, yet they are determined to fulfil their respective vows to Ymir and Erwin, no matter what. Hisu has literal tears in her eyes while Levi is grinding his molars with his pretty face paint, and thus, this concludes my ramblings of how similar these two scenes are...
Okay, I don’t have to say what happens next since most people have seen all seasons of the anime by now (but I will still put a spoiler tag).
Some food for thought here though, but see what I mean about both scenes giving off the same vibe? Almost spooky...
In the meantime, I will be putting together other parallels between these two awesome characters (ahem *cough* both are Capricorns *cough*) since I have way too many Levi and Historia screenshots that I know what to do with.
I hope you enjoyed my ramblings 😁

I remember the terrible day I was having--what was it? three years ago, right? I was so upset by everything that had gone wrong, and then I opened Tumblr to see that spoilers had come out, and there was Levi vs Beast Titan, and suddenly everything was awesome. And I knew then that was the scene I wanted to see animated the most, even more than the shootout.
I am so not disappointed. Worth every minute of the wait. Levi is just the best. And oh, Armin...
What a fantastic episode, all around. My heart just pounded all the way through. Best. Season. Ever.

Thoughts on the Episode
1. So one thing that kept bothering me during the episode is the abruptness of some frames. I don’t know how to explain it, but I just feel like the transitions were really awkward in the first part of the episode (with the focus on Zeke and the SC). For example, Marlowe’s scream gets cut off in a weird way, and during the Levi vs. Zeke part, they spammed this one shot to the point where it got ugly. I just found the whole flow of those scenes lacking and I kept getting whiplashed to the point where I couldn’t focus on anything but the abruptness.
2. Zeke’s speech was...meh? I don’t know, it had a lot more impact in the manga. Again, I feel like it was said in a rush. And I think the VA could have sounded angrier.
3. Levi’s attack was done nicely for the most part. Just didn’t like the last bit where they spammed that one shot. Also, Zeke’s initial reaction was kinda awkward.
4. The flashes to the people inside the Walls kinda threw me off? I don’t know. Again, the transition was just weird.
5. There’s a new track that plays during the 104th squad vs. Reiner fight and I like it.
6. Bertolt looked really nice the whole episode for some reason. I feel like they’ve been drawing him prettier lately.
7. The Armin vs. Colossal Titan scene was the highlight of the episode for me. The effects were really well done and the music choice was awesome. All in all, the pain Armin must’ve went through hit me harder.
8. There’s a shot of Mikasa with the 3dmg when she lands the final blow that I really like. But I found it weird that she stayed inside Reiner’s mouth after detonating the Thunder Spear. Can’t remember if that was the case in the manga. Oh and when Reiner gets taken out, there’s a really funny shot of him looking like a clown lmfao.
9. At first, I was disappointed that they didn’t play any soundtrack when Eren defeated Bertolt, but now I think it was a good choice. The silence makes Bertolt’s realization resonate more. And it’s a nice contrast with the piano track that leads into the scene. Also, I love Eren’s angry scream.
10. There’s something really eerie about the way Eren was dragging Bertolt in the aftermath? I think it was amplified by the fact that there was no music. You could hear the scraping sound as a result.
11. Armin and Eren’s first meeting was SO. CUTE. Really happy with that adaptation.
12. Seeing Armin’s burnt body and the steam...:’( Next episode will be painful.
