Y’know, it’s a shame that we never got to see an actual interaction between Fred and his wife in the Discworld books. I mean, we *hear* about them interacting and get an idea of what their relationship is like from that, and I also understand it’s a part of the joke about them being so busy they communicate through notes they leave for each other, but still. We don’t even learn the woman’s first name.

Yet, despite this I’ve managed to piece together what little information we’re get about her throughout the Watch books to get a general idea about what she’s like and what she does that keeps her so busy all the time. So, let’s review what we do know for sure about this woman of mystery.

She has a job that keeps her extremely busy.

She’s been doing said job for at least as long as she’s been married to Fred.

She is one of the few people that will directly call out Sergeant Colon when he’s being an idiot.

She and Fred have kids and grandchildren.

She seems to enjoy interior decorating.

She can cook well.

She most likely has known Sam since he joined the Watch and Nobby since he was a kid. Also, at this point it’s fair to assume she’s met the other important watchmen as well. (Carrot, Angua, Detritus, Cheery, etc.)

Personality-wise, I’d say she’s a nice but a very no nonsense type of person. Patient, but only to a certain point. Very hard worker and tends to get absorbed in her job. She obviously loves her husband, but she can get easily exasperated with him. Her feelings about him are probably best summed up with something like: He’s an idiot, but he’s my idiot.

As far as her work goes, I think she’s either an antique dealer or an interior designer. This is because an interesting little detail I picked up on in Jingo. Fred brings her back souvenirs (which is really sweet tbh) and they’re furniture/decorating stuff. Plus it’s mentioned in the books that’s she often asks Fred’s help decorating their house and moving furniture. So if she’s an interior designer, she might sometimes keep some of the furniture she uses for her clients there, and if she’s and antique dealer she might run her business from their house. After all owning a proper shop is expensive and Ankh-Morpork is low on space.

There is almost something funny in seeing how most people on tumblr are really upset about what Yuamu and Yuga are doing and then I check other places where people are actually happy about what's going on?

One side is angry at Yuga, hates Yuamu's decision, call it bad writing, nonsensical etc. while the other side says stuff like "girl boss Yuamu", "Go Rush is cooking/peak" and "this is what Yuamu's character needed".

Ngl, I'm somewhat in the middle:

I really wouldn't call the recent events as "peak fiction" and I still feel like this is a weird way to involve Yuamu in the arc final + potentially explaining why she's not on the season 3 poster. I don't buy her being Otes at all. At least not the one we saw in Sevens. I don't even really see what would be so great about her being Otes? Like is it only cool because a girl could potentially be the previous show's central antagonist? Also Yuamu empathising with Yuga could've been done better imo. Just saying that the ep where they landed in Goha City as cats was like the "starting point" for her feels random and not really like it was built up properly. At least to me. Also not sure how people seem to easily forget/forgive Yuamu's irrelevance over the season just for what she's doing now. The writers do nothing with her until now and suddenly she's cool again because she sides with Yuga?

But I will also say that I don't hate Yuga for doing what he does. I mean, Yuga experienced what bad shit Monster Reborn caused in his time. He doesn't want a repetition of that. And I think for us it's easy to say "well, screw the future kids, the Velgearians matter more" since they don't exist in GR. They aren't characters we saw interacting with Yudias and co. We got to know the Velgearians so their deaths hit us harder and we want them back since what happened to them was just not fair. But it's not like Yuga is happy about letting the Velgerians stay dead. He would've gladly helped reviving the Velgearians if he knew a way that doesn't involve the use of Monster Reborn. After all, why would he have helped Yudias, given him a deck and duel disk and even dueled at his side if he didn't care at all? Even Yudias and co. don't think he's just evil by doing what he does rn. And well, Yuga is just 13. A 13yo saying he will become the enemy just to save the future is kinda crazy. Yuga actually cares a lot up to the point he wants to solve everything on his own so others don't suffer/get hurt. That's how he was in Sevens too. And ngl, that annoyed me a little even back then. (Luke called him out for that once too) He means well but needs to understand that it's okay to take help. Btw: I've seen people angry at Yuga and Yuamu only caring for the kids and implying that adults are bad? Tbh, I don't think they really believe that since in both, Sevens and Go Rush, we had some adults playing Rush Duel and having fun with it. I think it's more about adults influencing the game so much up to the point it's only fun for them but not the kids anymore. So when Yuga wants dueling back in the hands of children, he probably means that they should have fun too and not just the adults. Maybe he and Yuamu could've phrased it better but I never took it as "kids are cool, adults are evil so RD should just be played by kids".

I still believe that in the end, both the future and the Velgearians can be saved so I don't feel like arguing with any side here. Both make points I can understand but I also feel like some get either over emotional or just blindly call everything awesome.

what are the high and low points of capital, now that you've finished it?

v1: the majority is pretty great except the technical/transitional middle chapters and the part on wages (except for the bit on national differences in wages, which i think is important and shows that marx had some notion of value regimes etc). he's a terrible historian but that's true across all the volumes

v2: first few chapters are among the most important of the 3 vols. probably the most interesting volume overall in terms of the things it's trying to work through, but it's incredibly tedious. i like the chapters where he's stepping aside to deal with the history of economic thought, but they probably don't really belong to the projected "book" as such. part 3 is very messy and im not sure how much it really accomplishes tbh but it works as a handy mindgame to get you thinking about the effect of industries on one another and, pretty importantly imo, the importance of use value

v3: easily the worst volume. the opening isn't too bad but it's very confused throughout. one day i'll write something about how everything he says here about international trade is self-defeating and often flies in the face of his own (admittedly limited) empirical work; the falling rate of profit stuff is unconvincing as much of anything (and nobody warns you that he's actually doing a theory of population there?); the stuff on finance and credit is underwhelming after teasing it for so long. feels very tacked-on rather than carefully unraveled out of simpler determinations in the way it probably should've been, but it's handy for overcoming some problems introduced (but not stated as problems) in v2. part of the reason it lands that way though is because everything leading up to it is very loosey goosey. "interest is just 🤷‍♂️" - karl marx, etc; the big middle bit on peel's act etc is neat but annoying and i think he's a bit dishonest (or maybe, less familiar than he should've been) with the cast of characters. he doesn't fully appreciate/understand tooke's intellectual development while writing his history of prices vs the currency principle; absolute rent doesn't exist and he could've left all of it up to monopoly prices which are outside of his analysis, but he doesn't wanna do that so instead he says a bunch of stupid nonsense; there's some stuff on the state toward the end which is alright and then right as it starts to get kinda good again the manuscript breaks off.

most people know about the jatcch movie ending, which is my favorite interpretation, but there's also the 2007 novel that the movie is based on and a lot of fans don't know about the 2005 dionysos album "monsters in love."

spoiler warning for the book below the cut because i be rambling-

basically, in the book jack doesn't die after kissing miss acacia. in fact, it's confirmed that there was actually nothing necessarily wrong with his heart and the three rules were just nonsense madeleine came up with to keep him dependent on her,,, which is... Not Great obviously. if i recall correctly, it's been a while since i've read it, he gets into this argument with miss acacia over joe and jack, like a total dumbass (with all due respect), starts ripping his heart out of his chest. this sends him into a coma for about three years. when he wakes up, he learns a few things:

a) méliès wrote a book about him and his heart (not important to this post per say, but that is where he learns he never needed a cuckoo clock heart in the first place, so yikes amiright?)

b) he looks different

c) everyone thinks he's dead and miss acacia is married to joe now

so, like, he's shit out if luck, but he tries to reacquaint himself with miss acacia anyway, who goes on about how she's unhappily married and how she's actually in love with this dude who died three years ago. jack's like, "omg girlie, that's me" and he gives her his old cuckoo clock heart.

instead of being happy that he's alive, miss acacia is PISSED. she's like, "dude, i thought you were dead, i'm in a loveless marriage, and i put flowers on your grave every day for the past few days. fuck you actually." she leaves and never speaks to him again, so jack returns to edinburgh as a phantom of his former self. really great stuff.

anyway, if monsters in love is canon to the jatcch storyline, it takes place directly after the end of the novel and technically makes the novel a prequel considering the album came first. anyway, i don't know exactly how much time has passed between the end of the book and the first song in the tracklist "giant jack" (banger song btw), but my guy's been through some things. he's godzilla-sized now and he's terrorizing scotland because,,,

also, the song tes lacets sont des fées has a music video featuring jack, acacia, and what i assume is the "broken bird" (another song from the tracklist). it's weird as hell, but it does allude to the fact that maybe miss acacia returned to edinburgh at one point to perform and encountered jack, who is not doing it great let's be real. and she does not care about him tbh, which,, given whatever is going on in the music video, is valid.

Okay before I start I just want to say that I love you and I can’t even tell you how many times I’ve read Harmless. I literally just finished rereading it last week and I miss it already. BUT THEN I FOUND OUT YOU POSTED THE FIRST TWO CHAPTERS OF UNSOLVED AND I AM ALREADY ADDICTED!

Also FYI this is gonna be a long ask and I’m sorry 😬

But hear me out, okay. As soon as I read the first two chapters of unsolved I thought of this story. A couple years ago my mom and I had this ghost show craze and the things people claim to have gone through is insane (I’m not really sure whether I believe in ghosts and stuff or not, tbh) But anyway this one show (which I can’t remember the name of) did a segment on this graduate student who was renting an apartment from her professor at a discount rate sometime during the late 90s/early 2000s. She moves in and starts being followed and watched by a shadow person/poltergeist who does poltergeist shit like open cabinets, steal keys, bang on things, etc. Most notably though, it steals a whole block of cheese which she was using to make mac and cheese. She tears the kitchen apart to find it, knowing that she just had it on the counter beside her, but cannot find it. Weeks later she opens her utensil drawer and there’s the block of cheese, molded. (I don’t know if you’re looking for actual cases or making them up or a bit of both)

So anyway, I had some thoughts on how Bucky and his partner would potentially respond to this story (all of which is potentially very lame and cringy so I’m sorry in advance for that, too.)

Okay, so my thoughts are that Bucky asks what kind of cheese it was and the reader thinks ‘why the fuck does this matter?’ But she replies something like “idk, she’s a poor college student so probably velveeta or some shit.” He says “that shit doesn’t mold! It’s got enough preservatives in it to kill and mummify a horse!” and she’s like “well maybe it was some other cheese, then” already exasperated at the frivolous line of questioning. But he continues to be a little shit and says something like “maybe she didn’t look for it in the utensils drawer” and she responds, incredulously, with “she would have had to get a fucking fork at some point” and he says “maybe she got ’em from take out” and she’s like “she’s a poor grad student?!” And he’s like “it’s called living beyond your means. Maybe she didn’t care about her credit score.” And the reader is sure that she’s gonna have an aneurysm. Also I know he would steal cheese or some other food item from Sam or Clint or the reader later just to fuck with ‘em.

rules: five unpopular opinions from five fandoms.

for titans, I don't hate hank and dawn both as characters themselves and as a ship (well I mainly shipped them in their flashback episode). people hate them because they took too much screen time but like, I actually enjoyed them. like yeah, hank was an asshole most of the time but I liked him, he was funny and he deserved better. and for dawn, I hate how people bash her because she was with dick (dickkory is my otp but dawn is also one of my favorite characters) and saying how that she should've died like I don't get it, I love her and all of you haters can suck it. all the women in titans are amazing and i hate how people like to pin them against each other over ship wars or whose more powerful like fuck off

for daisy jones & the six, i don't know if this is an unpopular opinion but I really don't like daisybilly together tbh. they just never grabbed my attention, also i hate billy and i think both daisy and camila deserve better than him.

for yellowjackets, i don't hate travis, he was an asshole I can admit that but.... I just don't think he's as bad as everyone makes him out to be. some of the men on this show have done worse than travis in my opinion (side eyeing officer groomer in the present timeline) and probably prior to season 2 I would've said callie as well but more people are liking her now, and I really like that so much she deserves the love <3

for euphoria, cassie does deserve some of the criticism she gets but some hate and stuff people say about it just rubs me in the wrong way. and I dislike how people not acknowledge her trauma because they favor maddy and lexi, and I do like maddy and lexi more as characters but I still love cassie and i really think that she can be a better person if people tried to pull her away from nate than just push her into his arms and she becomes progressively worse. also, there is a difference between an explanation and an excuse, what cassie had did in season 2 is inexcusable but we have to understand why she did what she did then than just wish death upon a teenage girl for making really, really horrible decisions and bash her more than the actual abuser. also someone get this girl therapy for god's sake

and finally for teen wolf, i know stiles is shipped with like soooooo many characters in the show but I truly and genuinely only ship him with like 3 people (scott, cora & malia). I never fully understood the hype around st*rek, I hate st*dia, and any other ships I just don't pay a lot of attention too anyways. and also speaking of stiles, I do like him and I can relate to him at points, but I just don't think he's the best character of the show. I'm not saying he isn't a great character, he is but it's just me having a preference for other characters who don't get that much love as he does

Wanted to say I totally agree with your arguments on TWC book 3. Gosh it's so infuriating to watch a game with a good universe and characters being a trainwreck as it progresses... I really hope Mishka get her shit together and do better. The serie doesn't deserve that.

I think part of the problem is the fandom? Not the people in the fandom, but the fact that there was a fandom so early on for her to interact with, and that she interacted with it so heavily.

Book 1 was very popular back in the day, and the release of book 2 actually trended on tumblr if I remember correctly. And just based on how the first book was relatively fleshed out and actually had substance, with the latter books getting somehow more and more fanfic-y of themselves, I think she just has askbox brainrot at this point.

Most of the dev blog is her answering asinine questions about the ROs that I personally would've left up for people to headcanon. I think that, after getting so much outside input on your characters, you end up losing your own vision for them and they become less defined and more like charicatures of themselves? Especially in an interactive game like this, when you're already keeping a lot of things open for player input, having so many people telling you their headcanons and forcing you to come up with situations to answer pointed questions … I dunno.

It's not the fandom's fault, and it's really not her fault either, because you need a decently sized fandom to get your IF anywhere near "making money" levels, but at some point I feel like maybe she lost her own artistic vision and just started either believing her own hype and realized that she could write whatever nonsense she felt like and people would eat it up (which I doubt is the case, purely becuse she seems to care about the project even if it's coming out a bit ass), or she's feeling some sort of pressure to conform to fandom expectations in writing (putting in a bunch of worthless but twee nonsense that's pure fanfic fodder), and coding (adding superficial variation to please the largest amount of people possible).

Again, this isn't like, me cancelling or trying to psychoanalyze or anything, but based on the product, these are my theories for why it looks the way it does now.

I also, and this will sound mean, think that the IF market has become a lot more saturated since TWC 1 came out, and there are a LOT of really good ones out there that are self-contained and complete and very good. Back in the day, the big players on the scene were basically just TWC and Fallen Hero. Now there's a gajillion other things, many of them finished and free, so waiting around for 7 books to come out for years when you could play something now that's done and if not better, then at least probably fits your specific tastes even more? People will drop off naturally already, and if you want to keep up with other creators, you can't rest on your laurels. (Which is also partly why I'm not in a hurry to write my own tbh. There's just a lot of stuff already out there and I don't feel like I'll be contributing much to the scene.)

so jamie's very active on social media. like to the point that he needs to shut the fuck up sometimes. his twitter is his most frequently used platform - he's just @ jamietartt he'll respond to all of richmond's tweets - he's got their post notifications on - and all of the premier league's tweets about him and his teammates. he also responds regularly to the three lions twitter account. but outside of football and #coygh and richmond til we die!s, it's seriously nonsense. he runs polls to see his followers' takes on things, and he's always like there is a right answer. he overuses emojis. at 2 am he'll tweet like @ PaddyOGara if you were a dog what type of dog would you be and @ IsaacMcAdoo how many eggs do you think you could eat in one sitting maximum not on average absolute maximum number of eggs pls respond quickly this is important his instagram (also @ jamietartt) is.... what you think his instagram would be. lots of pictures of him on match days, in richmond reds, blues, and yellows. lots of pictures of him hanging off of his teammates. lots of instagram stories during celebrations in the dressing room and afterwards when they're out clubbing. but it's also full of ego-stroking shirtless pictures and gym selfies where his shirts are matted to his body with sweat. he does amas more frequently than he should. keeley has to work overtime with him sometimes tbh. his tiktok (also.... @ jamietartt) is all behind the scenes with richmond/the three lions content. colin sleeping on the bus. moe having a very intense conversation with the new greyhound mascot. them actually seeing how many eggs isaac could eat in one sitting. and occasionally he just shows off his footwork on there because he likes to brag and he likes praise (canonically lmao)

his biggest controversy is, obviously, fucking off from city two weeks into their season to do lust conquers all. he still gets questions about that, still gets people who don't take him seriously as a footballer because of that. but, aside from lust, the next biggest controversy was that one time he was pictured outside of a club in london with a cigarette between his fingers. it was keeley's, and he was just holding it for her - he's never actually smoked in his life, because he takes his health seriously - but it was on a bunch of tabloids front pages the next day. he didn't make a statement. he doesn't get asked about that as much anymore, but it wouldn't surprise me if opposing team's players ask him if he want one as a cruel sort of joke if they run across each other out clubbing or something

his hot takes are mostly just like. "i think kent was a better player than beckham ever was" and he likes to start fights about that but he does fully 100% believe his own opinion when he says stuff like that. there are loads of comments on our irl tiktok that's like "he (jamie) thinks he's ronaldo" and when jamie's drunk he needs someone to stop him from replying on his main account like "no. i think i'm better than him."

as for going viral i like to think the moment he said that he and beard aren't having sex definitely still circulates on richmond twt, plus him and roy headbutting and hugging after their promotion, plus there's discussion about whatever roy said when he hugged jamie after jamie left the pitch in mom city. usfw mention in this paragraph don't read this if you don't want that // there's also the canon fact that he gets half-hard when he does particularly well on the pitch..... people Are Looking that's all im gonna say

Eliote absolutely 100% calls them out.

Allets tries to hear them out while also taking what they say with a grain of salt.

⚠ - What has your character almost done that made someone talk them out of or convince them not to do it?

Allets definitely eventually gets up to wanting to do / trying to do SOOOOOOOO many hairbrained schemes and ideas that reasonably a person ought to be talked out of or convinced not to do. Y'know, demon-summoning, raccoon-domesticating, breaking-and-entering, etc. Eliote and/or Finley definitely try for a bit to talk her out of it, but end up going along with it a lot of the time.

Eliote, it'd have to be something like pulling five consecutive all-nighters to work on something, or fortifying the house to a truly insane degree with like SO many locks and traps and electric fence type stuff.

♿ - Is your character in some way handicapped? (This includes physical, emotional, and mental.)

Eliote definitely has PTSD, quite possibly also anxiety and/or depression. Also insomnia.

Allets, there's probably gotta be some kinda CPTSD in there. Anxiety is also extremely possible. I'm also considering whether autism and/or ADHD makes sense for her, not sure.

💢 - What frustrates your character more than anything?

Allets: Failure to do things comes to mind. A lot of the time the feeling that comes with failure for her is shame, and sometimes fear, but there are probably some times where there's frustration. Apart from that, all that comes to mind is just. Mean, snippy people.

Eliote: She gets frustrated by SOOOOOOO many things. A very big one is definitely forced positivity though. She HATES that with her entire being, and the more of it one throws at her the more bitter and grumpy and angry she gets in response.

😒 - “Ugh! Not him/her/them/it again.” How does your character react to annoying people?

Eliote glowers and snarks and snipes and generally makes it very bluntly clear how annoying she finds them.

Allets tries her very very hardest to be polite but it is Painful. Once she makes friends with Eliote and Jewel and Luna she does at some point get to a point where she's able to complain about people to them though. Only to them. Still gotta keep her thoughts to herself for everycreature else.

⛪ - Is your character religious or spiritual in anyway?

Eliote's parents might've believed in and practiced some religion in a low-key but very wholehearted way. She might've hung onto a little of that.

Allets...I'm having a hard time deciding whether her parents are like, devout christians who drill some of the most toxic ideas peoples get out of christianity into her, or whether they generally consider religion to be stuff and nonsense. Whatever religious or spiritual beliefs they have get drilled into Allets, but she never really resonates all the way down with them. She'd probably be agnostic really, and probably find it interesting to learn about different religions. And tbh I think she'd kinda vibe with satanism really sdlkjflkXD

📺 - What would your character’s favorite TV show be? What’s their favorite genre?

I think she'd really really like Over The Garden Wall. And also The Owl House. There is SO much that would resonate hard with her about The Owl House. Also, while this is technically a Netflix show and not a TV show, I think she would LOVE Centaurworld. Also, while we're on Netflix shows, She-ra would DECIMATE her.

As to favorite genre of media, I think honestly horror would be up there. She'd have a very deep fascination with horror. With all things spooky, occult, grotesque, and/or nightmarish. I've thought about the OC squad listening to TMA before, and I see her as being the one who'd most get into relistening to episodes for the statements and not just the plot or characters.

Eliote...it's honestly hard to say if ANY of the shows I watch (or know anything about) would be her favorite show. She-ra (though, again, not a TV show) might be a possibility? Precure? Infinity Train? Not sure. Allets would probably get her to watch Centaurworld and she'd probably wind up enjoying it a lot more than she anticipated. I think that might be up there.

and here they are

Rapscallion (aka Captain Scally aka Scallywag) - Captain of the Gilded Skyline

-uses he/they/xe/vey/wyv/wyvern pronouns as well as any pirate-related neos

-A tribrid sand/mud/seawing - he’s mostly a sorta pale sandy color but has brown along his spine and the edges of his wings and talons. there’s a dusting of brown scales around his face that looks like stubble/a beard. he has a sandwing’s tail barb and the glowy scales of a seawing. the glowy scales glow a pale blue that’s like the sky - there are green scales kinda mushed in with his brown scales, and some pale blue spotted on his sandy scales - his eyes are a dark gray-brown

-he chose his name

-does not have gills, but can hold his breath for a very long time (like 3 hours or so)

-probably bi or gay tbh i dunno

-very high spirited! always seems to be laughing and having a merry time with his crew - he chose all of them himself and loves them like family. he’s got the energy of a favorite uncle

-very skilled fighter. he made his ship with his own two claws, and a good captain always goes down with their ship

rest of the crew under the cut!

Petrichor (aka Petti aka Parrot aka Parrot 2.0) - First Mate

-she/they/fae/he and pirate neos

-a hybrid rain/sea (and possibly leaf)wing - mostly keeps their scales shades of indigo and green but scales change color according to the rainwing color chart and what not - their seawing glow scales can be any color! - eyes are blue and gold

-she’s Rapscallion’s best friend

-Petrichor and Scally learned aquatic together and then had their own made up sorta dialect for aquatic (it’s basically just pirate speak lol)

-also very high-spirited

-Petrichor and Rapscallion have learned how to balance out each other’s nonsense - one of them knows when to be serious and can reign the other in and they work very well together

-Petrichor is very good with their claws, she can sew

-really good with knots

-not so great at fighting but can hold his own

-has gills and can breathe underwater

Scallop - (aka Sea Pup aka...Scallop) - Cabin Boy

-he/him, trying out they and pirate neos (not a big fan of neos but alright with they/them atm)

-sand/mudwing hybrid who looks a lot like Rapscallion but without the green and blue seawing bits - eyes are a dark brown

-a lot of dragons think Scallop and Rapscallion are brothers - Rapscallion says they are, Scallop always denies it

-doesn’t know why or how he’s here. but. he’s here

-not the most approachable dragon on the ship but if you befriend him he will die for you

-probably still a dragonet and the youngest member of the crew

Crow - (aka...Crow) - The Lookout

-he/she

-a night/seawing hybrid - scales are very, very black, there’s no underlying purple or dark blue, just black like a void -his glow scales are a super pale blue that’s almost white - they have gills and can breathe underwater - her eyes are bright yellow

-basically lives up in the crow’s nest to the point where instead of being called “The Crows Nest” it’s referred to as “Crow’s Nest” and she sleeps up there sometimes

-almost completely silent except for when he decides to yell at the other crewmates from the crow’s nest

-she’s the ship’s alarm clock and sings at the top of her lungs to get everyone up

Parrot - (aka Parrot the First aka Parrot 1.0 aka The Cooler Parrot) - Gunner

-he/she/they

-rain/skywing who keeps their scales blinding vibrant parrot colors (mostly red, orange, and yellow but sometimes blue or green) and has huge wings - eyes are bright orange

-probably has an eye patch

-loves blowing stuff up

-has venom that burns longer than a regular rainwing’s would, but no fire

-Parrot and Crow are the second and third mate but they have no idea who is second and who is third and whenever the topic comes up they argue about it for hours (Rapscallion does not help with this at all, mans seems to enjoy watching the chaos unfold ajsdlfkajsfd)

Guppy (aka Gup) - Medic/Cook

-he/him

-mud/seawing hybrid - mostly green and brown (with a splash of blue), has the vibes of a swamp creature - eyes are dark blue and green

-talks in his sleep and always mumbling to himself - doesn’t talk to the crew at any volume louder than a murmur unless he’s shouting back at Crow (cause he’s not about to ignore crow that’d be rude)

-works with Scallop the most, attempting to teach the lad how to cook

-has gills but terrified of the thought of trying to breathe underwater so he mostly just holds his breath when he swims

Okay bc I will have you know, my default topic for rambling is usually "How much to you know about slime molds?" The answer for...I think everyone is not much, even if you try to look it up, and most of them just look nasty, but they're like...hivemind algae? Like, it's a ton of tiny specks of nothing in the ground, but these little shits know how to network like 1980s stock salesmen with pagers. If they need something, they coalesce into this singular Thing, and start reaching out for leads. It just looks like a nasty slime at that point, but then it figures out where it wants to be. Like, one little droplet of nonsense finds a food, and it can relay down the chain where it is, and then it condenses into tendrils like spiderweb to make the most efficient routes. Really, really efficient. They tested this by putting some over a map of Tokyo, and marking key points with oat flakes, and it came up with a similar and sometimes actually better route network than the Japanese rail system. Also it can apparently smell where it's been so it never has to look in the same place twice. It's literally mushroom dust and it has a better handle on things than me tbh.

Let's see...Giant ocean sunfish (whose proper name I forget and feel bad about, I believe polynesian in origin) are one of the only fish that can blink.

A university in Germany is so good at cultivating giant corpse flowers that they have a bloom almost every year.

And in conclusion, I once decided I literally had to keep on keepin on, so to speak, solely because of a fictional entity who lives in my head rent free, bc I had not gotten to tell his story yet, and I was more concerned about hurting him than about myself. When people say it's not wrong or selfish to take care of yourself for a stupid reason, they rarely give examples that extreme. He is now my phone background and I refuse to change it. I have still not finished the thing, for the record. It is on "completely start over" number...9 now, I think. I will get it right eventually. tbh gachas and the balance between whales and non-whales is fascinating to me. I’ve been a little reading on it lately

you want whales to spend money, but in order for them to do that, there needs to be a benefit. aka, spending money makes them powerful.

However: a whale isn’t going to feel powerful against another whale. Whats the point of shelling out cash if they just as strong as the next guy? You need f2p players, minnow, and dolphins too. You need A LOT of them so that whales mostly encounter those folk and not just other whales all the time.

You need to make a healthy ecosystem in your game for your whales. 

That starts with your f2p players. The f2p players need to be happy. because if they leave, so do the minnows, so do the dolphins, and so do the whales.

so f2p need to be able to do well too. f2p will never be good as a whale unless they have the most insane luck in the world, but they can save their magia stones and roll on what they like/what is good, and they can perform well. 

if we use magireco as an example, this game is very f2p friendly. you can use whatever character you want to beat the base content-- ex-challenges and such will be hard if you don’t prioritize your savings, but everything is accessible to you. My main alt account can do anything it wants at this point and I’ve never spent any money on it. So that means f2p should be happy in this game, and so there is a draw for them.

Next up you have your minnows, who are people who might buy the monthly pack deal and that’s it. honestly the difference between a minnow and a f2p is kind of minor in the grand scheme of things, but it’s still important because they are food for the dolphins. A minnow is probably going to have better units than a f2p, maybe more slots, just by virute of spending money.

A dolphin might buy the occasional deals. They might throw money at a banner, but they’re not a true whale. the monetary amount of what defines a dolphin depends on where you are tbh-- for example, on na I’d say a dolphin spends maybe 20 a month on the game. on jp it’d be higher than that.

man I’m not gonna go step by step actually-- the point is, dolphins are the feast for the whales. Whales want to be powerful, but power is boring if everyone is an ant. You need players who are good but not as good as you so that you can have a true power fantasy.

i have been awake for 25 hours. why am i talking???? I’m gonna wake up eventually and this will all be incomprehenshible or even worse, compeltely wrong and i will be screenshotted and ratio’d. 

anyways, gacha money stuff depends on a delicate ecosystem. one way you can tell a game is failing is if either the f2p all leave or the whales start to leave.

f2p can’t be made to feel like they don’t matter, which is also why back-to-back limited banners are a problem (and constant newly released overpowered units). a unit from a year ago should still be good now, because that’s what a f2p is going to be working with. if old units are constantly powercrept, then f2p stuffer and aren’t going to play anymore.

but whales need a reason to buy things without it just being new stuff. so how to make new units good without making them total powercreep nonsense is hard.

magireco is doing a good job imo with it right now. I mentioned it two posts ago, but a lot of the new limiteds are based around kimochi/high tier content while being “eh” for anything else.

Isabeau is the fucking GOAT, need-to-have unit for kimochi, but she’s worse than vampire kanagi for everything else. that’s good. whales will want her to do well, but f2p don’t NEED her. (edit: also oriko exists and fills a similar niche)

kuroe is the best mp battery for dark units ever, but she suffers on non-dark-focused-teams. that means madoka and mikage have an edge on her for other content. that’s good. f2p don’t suffer if they only have madoka or mikage. (edit: also kako exists and can fill a similar-ish niche)

if akumura-chan is really going to be a ranked beast, it’ll still be okay, probably in the grand scheme of things. lots of units are still good for ranked that can be relied on, and even if she’s at the top, her average gameplay outside of ranked will suck so f2p don’t NEED her.

EXTENDED LIST OF THINGS THAT ARE WRONG WITH CHAPTER 139

ymir the founder fritz, aka the most powerful and compelling plot device that isayama could have ever employed in order to explain the origin of the titans, the inherent slavery of the eldian people, and also everything else wrong in the world, was emptied of all value and purpose when she was revealed to have loved her abuser and oppressor. her life-long struggle to break free from the slave mentality that was pounded into her since childhood turned out to be... totally hollow. the woman's real purpose was to keep loving the man who cut off her tongue, raped her as a child and eventually had her cannibalized by their daughters when she failed to survive a murder attempt on his person. which makes for a very pinpoint parallel with eren, tbh, but he gets a whole paragraph all to himself later. amor vincit omnia should not become a convenient fix-it trope so that stuff can magically make sense in less than 50 pages. not to mention that this makeshift “solution” doesn't account for countless plot holes, that would only make sense if ymir was an abuse survivor looking to get her agency back. and even if i was keen on excusing the sloppy writing, i still wouldn't let the whole romanticisation of rape and trauma thing slide so easily. by giving a young victim like ymir fritz romantic feelings and a blind devotion towards her rapist, isayama is basically conveying a very pitiful and toxic message, one he refuses to even dignify with a realistic explanation for the thousands of readers who couldn't make a sense of it. the way this twisted version of love seems to be universally accepted by all the characters in the last chapter, as they just shrug it off like some sort of inevitable superior force that works in mysterious ways, made me wanna gouge my eyes out and never read another word again

mikasa's arc. mikasa had the potential to be the only character in the entire manga to come out on top when all was said and done. she had openly opposed eren's idea of a genocide. she had left the scarf behind when he voiced his hatred for her. she seemed ready enough to sever the proverbial umbilical cord and move on, live a life with pride, knowing how she could have outgrown her silly, dependent, obsessive old self. she might have started out as a yandere caricature, a passive and annoying side-effect to having eren as the main character, but she could have done so much better later on. she, too, just like ymir fritz, might have broken free, if only isayama liked liberated and strong women. she had the range. she had the potential, the backstory, everything. given the chance, she could have redeemed herself. but did isayama care? nope. he just threw her to the sickos in the fandom and said “here's your little psycho doll. do what you will with her. also, she's the key to understanding the superior force that works in mysterious ways aka love aka all the nonsense i'm actually too lazy to commit to”. and so, mikasa is as inconsequential in the ending as she ever was as eren's ever-present bodyguard, if not more, because now she's even refusing to look ahead and fight. two things that she at least tried to do every so often back when eren was alive. not only she surrendered to her own mental illness, but she even saw it turned into a pretty fantasy that the readers can idealise (again, romanticisation of all the wrong things) and that she'll never be able to escape so long as she lives. what's worse, she doesn't even want to, because in this manga we love downgrading and being stuck in the past, as the worst possible versions of ourselves.

historia's pregnancy. it shouldn't even have happened in the first place, unless it was dictated by historia's explicit desire to have a child precisely when she asked for one and by that one unnamed farmer guy and nobody else. whether that was the case or not remains, to this day, still shrouded in mystery because, again, isayama didn't think of coming clean about any aspect of historia's sudden decision. the notion that she might have been raped or submitted to something she really didn't want simply for the drama of it leads to some pretty terrifying implications. i have already explained countless times how it didn't even make sense for eren to be so adamant about rejecting the 50 year plan on account of not wanting historia to be breeded like cattle, titanised, and eventually devoured by her children, if he was just... gonna let her have her way, she only had to ask him nicely. why ever would historia need eren's permission to have a child? what was she even trying to tell him in chapter 130? why did eren tell her something as pivotal as the genocide plan if the friendship between them wasn't any different from any other in the 104th? why would eren take the risk to meet her in secret and suggest that they do something as radical as fighting the mp's or running away, if all she had to do was just... ask that he let her get pregnant? i suppose that was just a bait for a very specific side of the fandom, at this point, as the extent of the entire cryptic conversation from ch. 130 was never covered, and we were probably just supposed to forget about it. I can only forgive isayama for basically baiting me into shipping erehisu because he still gave historia a decent wrap-up in the ending, she looked in control and happy enough with her new life, which is something i warmly wished for her. she seems to be in a better spot than most of her former comrades, and virtually, she is the true inheritor of eren's original (and later disowned) ideology, as she is the one who will lead eldia into the future as a free nation, whatever that may mean for them now that titan powers are no longer a thing. I'm very proud of her and generally i am happy with how things played out for her and yeah, thinking back on it with a colder mind... i wouldn't have wanted it any other way, ships be damned

wHY WAS LEVI IN A WHEELCHAIR????? like..... scars aside, he was up and about in one panel, and in the next he was disabled... that was just... idk?? weird but i suppose isayama went overboard to provide us with some residual dramatic value here

the genocide being just a red herring. APPARENTLY eren never believed that the genocide was a solid way to achieve freedom. his true intention was to antagonize himself so that his friends would be hailed as heroes, but like... why... he didn't even achieve the complete annihilation of conflict in the world by doing so? his friends might be heroes now, but they're going to spend the rest of their lives fighting for their very lives. if anything, eren sparked new conflicts and made the new order so much worse for the eldians, as they have no choice but to keep fighting, except with the same weapons as anybody else now. he basically doomed his people to a bleak future of war and possibly extinction. he killed 80% of the entire world to cause nothing but a disappointing regretful outcome, and in the end he even disowned everything he ever believed in. in comparison, zeke's euthanasia plan was some genius level shit that would have achieved the same result as eren, except with not nearly as much bloodshed.

the parasite. again, great idea, poor execution. what on earth happened to it? it was the Scientific Shit that made titans happen one moment, and then gone in the next, wrestled to death by a buff war criminal with ptsd... my disappointment is over the roof

eren himself. like, as a whole. oh, what's not to regret about the 180 eren did in the finale? witnessing a mc forsaking every relevant trait that's ever made him who he is, is simply painful on the eyes. isayama basically went and said “remember eren yaeger aka the suicidal blockhead who would sacrifice everything in order to achieve freedom? yes? well forget about him, you've got aaron yogurt now.” …... who even is this man? when he broke down and cried in front of armin, whining like a baby that he wanted mikasa to never move on from him, i legit got second-hand embarassment. I felt actual shame for the way isayama handled his characterisation. like... he is a mass murderer, ok... how can he just... kneel down and cry about his step-sister whom he never did anything to date anyway like it's nothing??? armin is right to be pissed at him but he's pissed for the wrong reasons, sadly. I don't even want to tackle the topic of eren murdering his own mother, as he basically confessed to going through life on autopilot because the founding titan just erased all his feelings, gave him superior knowledge of all things and compelled him to go with the flow of things, aka the exact opposite of what he's been preaching ever since day 1. W HAT on earth man. like i said in point #1, eren's crush on mikasa is actually very frightening too, and it leads us back to that one dark force that overpowered even ymir fritz. eren is in love with a girl who's obsessed, in denial and damaged. and what's worse, mikasa reciprocates his feelings, even though eren always overlooked her or manipulated her. ymir fritz kept misunderstanding all those red flags from the king as love, probably. this is really not a story of breaking the cursed cycle, because it seems to me that everyone has returned full circle in the end.

CONCLUSION: nothing isayama or anyone might have said in interviews or elsewhere could have prepared me for this raging shitfest. the entirety of that last chapter was farfetched to say the least, everything looked half-hearted and rushed, clumsily glued together because the real isayama died and somebody else had to ghostwrite the ending for him. I am sorry if i do sound a bit disillusioned about the whole thing and can't bring myself to be outraged either, but i've been way too invested into this manga for nearly a decade, and now it all blew up in my face, so i guess i no longer give it the power to upset me lol

OHOH, yes, let's talk about THAT. That was 100% something that I didn't know was gonna be in that fic til I wrote the part referencing it and I absolutely sat back and went like, "HUH, where DID that come from" once I did.

I ended up poking (mostly in my head, none of this made it in really) at the idea that Mags in that fic is still feeling out two things very tentatively: one, having any kind of intimate relationship after a very long time holding the very idea at a distance, and two, trying to untangle his weird compartmentalized sense of identity. I envisioned this fic as being not very long after Remain in Light, and likewise not long after him and Rodimus have struck up some kind of relationship, the details of which they're probably not talking about with each other very explicitly yet.

The really obvious route to go, I think, would be that Magnus has hangups about being Minimus, and the difficulty would come from being able to be "himself" within a relationship, especially one where the initial connection was made with someone who met him as Magnus. The inadequacy and self loathing meaning he can only manage it behind literal armour hiding his perceived failings. But there's a reverse side to that, where he sees 'Minimus' as a nobody who isn't respected and never achieved anything, and 'Magnus' as an ideal that lets him be better than that... and that makes the stakes way higher as Magnus. Right? And like, in canon, Magnus is literally Not Supposed To Have Friends. It's in the job description. Tyrest says he's slipping because he so much as hugged someone once.

So Minimus has been getting out the armour more and it's stressful and weird but it DOES let him try and do things that it's been hammered into his head are not things it's acceptable to do as Magnus. Like striking up a Thing with Rodimus. But it's not quite coming from a totally healthy place yet because he's actually still reinforcing that compartmentalisation, I think. Sure, not being trapped in just the Magnus identity 24/7 is a step forward, but the Magnus identity is definitely still this ideal in his head he thinks he's somehow going to... taint, or something. He doesn't understand on a base level still that it's literally all just him and the rest is role and performance. (Minimus is not someone who understands social performance even when he's literally doing it THE MOST, bless him.)

Which brings us back to them in the fic where Mags IS doing this in the armour. I figured Rodimus had one of his moments of unexpected clarity and twigged some of the above. It being a scene does two things. One, it distances Minimus from the weird tangled stuff around "being" Magnus by making it almost a role he's playing instead of a person he's being: Minimus is a lot more aware of the distinction here than if they were just having sex with the armour on. And two, it means he can relinquish control to the point where some of the instinctive guilt at all this is quieted, because he's doing as he's told.

Iiiiii have thought about this weird little robot's sexual hangups SO much LMAO. My favourite hobby tbh. Pats him on the head. This tiny man can fit so much nonsense and objectively weird trauma.
