Ok continuing on this post on my made-up perimeter mythology:

Corios and Amelthene have been ruling the perimeter for hundreds of years by now, with the blessing of the goat god keeping them alive and granting them divine inspiration during crises. They have faced many trials together, survived the wrath of higher gods through and through, and the surrounding world has taken notice. The perimeter has become a hub of knowledge, enlightenment, trade, art. The population explodes and Amelthene and Corios are faced with the challenge of feeding such a large number.

Amelthene comes up with wall-climbing, space-saving farms, encouraging farmers to selectively breed larger and more disease-resistant crops. Tomatoes thrive particularly well in these wall gardens and quickly become a staple food. Then there’s the problem with water.

Water had always been a troubling resource for the people of the perimeter. At the bottom of the world, they don’t have a water table beneath them to pump from. They had gotten by with pumping in water from nearby caves, but it was difficult to find anything both potable and substantial enough to sustain them. There was a lake sitting very near them, but the god of the lake was very old and powerful, and previously they had been far too weak as a society to risk a war with his water spirits. However, Corios and his warriors have been greatly emboldened by their previous victories in border skirmishes, and decide to go ahead with the plan to build an aqueduct system.

As expected, there are skirmishes, but with Corios’ reputation, none of the water spirits dare start a full-on war with them and a shaky, unspoken peace ensues. The spirits hate the pumps and the lake god hates Corios, but so long as he knows Corios can defeat him, he holds back, as he would not ask his water spirits to die over this.

Of course, if Corios were to die, there would be nothing stopping him from wiping this pathetic spot from the map…
