A theory on why Mara’s hair and eyes change color

I completely understand the implications that lightening Mara’s hair and eyes when she “turns into” She-ra has but I believe there is a canonical reason for why it happens. I believe that the First Ones wanted She-ra to look a certain way (the lighter hair and blue eyes could be their preferred characteristics in a person, which yikes, so it creates a poster “hero” they can promote) in order to let themselves/others know that she was their weapon, their soldier, and that she was under their control. 

It is the sword, designed and built by the First Ones, that causes Mara’s hair and eyes to change when she “turns into” She-ra. Mara only changes when using the sword, not when she’s just using the magic of Etheria.

And Razz confirms that the She-ra is a person, not the sword, and that the First Ones made the sword but not She-ra. Mara can use the magic of Etheria because Etheria chose her to be She-ra, not because of the sword. The sword doesn’t turn Mara into She-ra, it just puts her under the First Ones’ control.

But the First Ones made Mara believe she needed the sword to control She-ra’s magic. But that isn’t true.

They made Mara believe she had to use the sword so that when it was time for the sword to absorb the magic of Etheria, it will have its wielder start the process. 

The First Ones twisted She-ra’s destiny, her purpose, to be part of a super weapon, a bringer of mass destruction and death. And that is not who She-ra was ever supposed to be.

TLDR: The First Ones created the sword so they could use She-ra for their own agenda. The white hair and blue eyes are a sign that Mara is under the First Ones’ control and is their poster “hero”. It represents that she is being turned into something she’s not: a weapon.
