Goodness the AOS Star Trek fandom is obnoxious. The way they're tripping over themselves to invent scenarios in which Uhura and Spock's relationship means absolutely nothing, like the kisses are platonic because in my mind Uhura was raised in a culture where they aren't sexual ah ah, noooo of course Nyota doesn't mind being shoved to the side for the sake of guy love she's very happy about it in fact, hey how funny would it be if she was Spock's ex and not his partner and Jim was just slow to catch on, here are my 284 cutesies headcanons for the moment when Spock realises why he THOUGHT Nyota was his soulmate but really it was Jim, here's how Nyota can be a supportive BFF to Jim and Spock, of course Nyota would be absolutely delighted to give a toast at their wedding.

Context: Spock is searching for someone to talk to about his Very Complicated Emotions but came to the realization that he cannot speak to Jim and Nyota about Jim and Nyota, Mister Scott will have little advice on the matter and may even laugh about it, which only leaves one other choice: Doctor McCoy, the only logical option

Spock: Doctor, could you perhaps spare a moment for conversation?

Bones: Sure, I have a little free time. What seems to be the issue, Mister Spock?

Spock: *giving him the spock stare* It will be in an unprofessional capacity, Doctor. Are you okay wi-

Bones: *leaning over to press the back of his hand to Spock's forehead*

Spock: *leaning out of his reach* Doctor, what are you doing?

Bones: Checking to see if you have a fever. What's going on with you Spock? You didn't speak a word on the bridge today unless prompted, not even to Jim. And now you're here wanting to talk to me? About something that doesn't have to do with the ship, no less!

Spock: One could argue that is does in fact have to do with the ship.

Bones: *narrowing his eyes* Did something happen to Jim he didn't report to me?

Spock: No, however it is about the Captain.

Bones: *blinking slowly* you're here to talk to me about Jim...unprofessionally? Spock, what the hell is going on?

Spock: *cheeks and the tips of his ears flushing the lightest hint of green* To use a human phrase I do not favor but serves to explain my situation quite well: It is complicated, Leonard.

thanks for reading this far lol. I hope that by putting it here I can get it out of my head. I wish I could draw. I think it would be a cute comic. alas, I was gifted with the ability to write.

I just think Spock having feelings for both Jim and Nyota is really neat and my brain won't let it go, so here we are. Spock turning to his last resource and hoping the good Doctor might be able to help, or at least lend an ear as he talks himself through this mess until he finds the logic of it again.

Though the writers seem uninterested in developing Spock and Uhura, it would be such a missed opportunity.

If Spock sees his connection to T’Pring through his Vulcan side, and that of Chapel with his human side, I could see Uhura being the one to accept him completely. After all, Uhura (more than anyone) is passionate about learning about others for who they are:

“I found early that, if I wanted to be understood, it's best to communicate in someone's own tongue, so I learned them.”

While I can see the writers setting up Spock feeling conflicted about Chapel and T’Pring, and thus the internal dichotomy he feels regarding his Human and Vulcan makeup, it would feel more satisfying if he chose neither. And maybe Uhura would be the perfect third option love interest, who wouldn’t make him feel the need to choose.

Plus Spock and Uhura’s scenes in 1x02 are just too good not to have more of.

The level of respect Spock has for Uhura in such a short amount of time is so precious.

“But, having observed your actions on the comet, I am certain, should you choose to, Starfleet would be fortunate to have an officer like you.”

If they don’t wanna go for the Uhura/Spock romance, fine, but at least give me more of their friendship I mean COME ON.

The MAIN reason Uhura and Spock weren't romantically together in TOS was because of the racism and literal anti-miscegenation of that time. So when people use "SpUhuRa cAn't hApPen iN SNW beCauSe iT waSn't cAnoN iN TOS." They're either unaware, or choosing to ignore that fact. We SHOULD be in a different time than TOS. Nothing should be stopping them from putting them together now. Except, I guess we, pathetically, haven't come too far since the 60s.

Gearing up for my new Star Trek series for next spring!

Some of my favorite Trek fics are gone from online, so now I gotta write my own, lol!

Synopsis:

Nyota Uhura spends a school break taking a summer immersion program at Starfleet Academy to see if she wants a career exploring space instead of music. Under the tutelage of Michael Burnham, a celebrated Starfleet officer and guest lecturer for the summer, Nyota is introduced to the principles and philosophies of Starfleet, while also introduced to Burnham’s adoptive brother, S'Chn T'Gai Spock... who happens to be a professor of exolinguistics at the academy--Nyota’s specialty.

I don't care what anybody else thinks, Spock/Uhura was genius if only because we got to see Ultimate Ladies' Guy and He Who Banged Every Other TOS Episode James T Kirk realize that the amazing girl he's into is dating the deuteragonist.
