hello there! i'm about to leave for uni to study japanese, do you have any tips for studying a language and note taking?
honestly, it's all up to how you study and what feels best for you! i'm more into the traditional method of note taking and studying. i use a notebook class thats cheap like a 70 pg spiral and i fill it with any and all information my teacher might give me for a lecture, whether its culture or language based. i usually use a mechanical pencil, an eraser and a mildliner to highlight anything important (i use gray for all in class notes since it's just a neutral color, nothing too flashy). outside of class i use the textbook, my electronic japanese dictionary and a secondary note book to revise and write down all of the information (campus notebook from when i studied in japan 5 yrs ago, rip). i highlight grammar points and i try to create my own sample sentences to make sure i can understand and apply it. i also found some kanji practice templates online that i use to improve my handwriting and memorization, but there are also notebooks with that kind of paper that i have yet to find... :( i write down the kanji from the chapter with its meaning, on and kun readings and a sample sentence in my secondary notebook. while i write down the kanji i'll work on pronunciation and memorizing the meaning. since my textbook has a reading section, i time myself to read it quickly like 3-5 minutes max and gather the information and answer the questions at the end. i check my answers and then if i miss any, i read it through one more time slowly. but i'll usually read it even after the speed reading to make sure i understand the context, the meaning of any kanji i might come across, and just for fun! my textbook also comes with a cd that my professor uploaded (bless) and i'll work on listening first to see if i understand what's being said and then i'll listen to it while reading the text, followed by speaking along with the cd to make sure i can understand the context and try to "mentally" translate the conversation. it also helps me get better at speaking and gaining confidence! that's pretty much what i do to study japanese both in class and out. some of the skills i use i got from my current professor who helped students pass the jlpt at the n1 level but some are my style of studying a language. hope it helps !!! good luck !!!

it's fall break at my university right now, so i'm just relaxing while completing some readings for my asian studies class. i'm still behind, but i'm slowly catching up and will be done by the time fall break ends! doing readings while having the skyrim soundtrack play in the background just...makes me feel some type of way. it's relaxing, yet motivating. also, i used to play skyrim in my youth (oof i'm only 21, but 13 feels like it was so long ago) and i miss it a lot. maybe one day i'll go back to it, but for now i'll just listen to the soundtrack.
also, i've been super lazy this fall break and after it's over i'm gonna have to give everything a 120%! speaking of which, i maxed out all of the possible extra credit points on my last social epidemiology exam and I got 84/70 (120% !!!) this semester is truly blessed but also super stressful

been keeping track of my endometriosis-related pain for the month of may so far! i'm using a calendar spread to help me find out what days i may experience flare-ups and what days i might be feeling "normal". i also made myself a medicine tracker since i have to take quite a few throughout the day and sometimes i tend to forget if i've taken them or not! i made a self care list so when i do get flare-ups i can just focus on me and getting through it, so i can take care of myself and learn to destress, despite the pain. it's been rough lately health wise, as my doctor, mother and i came to the conclusion that i, do in fact, have endometriosis. its a condition that affects 1 in 10 women and roughly 179 million women around the world struggle with this. endometriosis is when the lining of the uterus (the endometrium) grows outside of the uterus, attaching itself to other organs surrounding it, like: fallopian tubes, ovaries, lower intestines, etc. there is no cure and it is chronic, but it is treatable! i'm kind of scared to know that this is what i have now, but i'm happy because now i know how to treat it and i won't be in excruciating pain. this medication i'm on is a big step towards taking my health back! hopefully it works the way it's supposed to. which means i'll be going through medically-induced menopause at 20! i'm just grateful i have a mother who works hard so her children can get the best care possible and that i have an ob who listens to and understands my concerns and has shown to me that he cares about women's health! they are both remarkable people, and play a big role in my new found ability to get my health back!

I'm back! It feels nice to post again after my sudden hiatus. I really like my planner spread for this month! It's simple and it follows the other months' spread. I'm fiddling with the indicator symbols about completion, unfinished, need to finish, etc. I got this month's wallpaper from @emmastudies, like always! Thank you for making these, I always look forward to them! That latte is amazing!!! I got it at a local hole-in-the-wall cafe. Tiny, great atmosphere, wonderful music. I went there with a classmate and studied for my Japanese chapter test. I got a 97.5! I'm content with what I got. I'm going to study hard for the final exam because I got a high B, low A (iirc) on it last semester. And now I'm aiming for an A. I also had a history midterm exam the day before spring break. I was super nervous. And at the very end, I was one of two students who were the last ones in the classroom, so I hope that means I did well!!! The other person was the one I studied with the night before the exam. So, I hope we both get the grades we wanted.
Spring break has been fun, I've just been really busy. Cleaning, washing, sleeping. Basically everything but writing the 2 essays and completing the one page of Japanese homework I have. I haven't even revised my notes. Which I should do too. I'll most likely get it all done on Saturday. I'm such a slacker. But I haven't been feeling well lately either. So, overall, a good spring break and an okay-ish semester. Time to brace myself for the second half!

Some pictures I took on my most recent trip to Boston! Flying has always been hard for me because my ears don't equalize pressure properly but I found the cure to my pain! I use earbuds and put them in before I get on the plane to make sure that I'm at ground level and when we take off I play my favorite music and forget about the pain and the fear of my ears hurting during takeoff and landing! My ears don't get plugged and they don't need to equalize. So anybody struggling with ear pains while flying I would reccomend taking:
2-3 sudafed 45 min to an hour before take off to clear your sinuses and make sure everything is clear!
Take an anxiety or sleeping (melatonin) pill 45 min to an hour before, if you have a fear of flying or are worried about pain.
Clean your earbuds and your ears before boarding the plane, and put them on as the gate is calling you to board; and then find your seat, play your favorite song, and remember that it'll be okay!
I love to travel but I always had a slight fear because of my excruciating ear pain, my ears would take days to equalize so it made day trips hard on me. I'd be crying so hard during descent and begging my mom to never take me on another trip again, because it was just that horrible for me. I figured out that doing these steps worked for me and really helped make my traveling experience even better. Now, I have no problem hoping on a plane, even multiple times in one trip like Boston! From my departing airport to Boston, walking around Boston a bit, to jumping back onto a plane to my home airport, in less than 40 hours was a breeze!
I hope this helps someone, but I thought I'd share my experience with traveling and ear pain as it seems to be something nobody talks about.

Working on listing the major arcana for a book arts/creative writing class. Our theme is to tell a narrative using the tarot. I've always wanted to learn about it and this class gave me an excuse to buy a beautiful tarot deck by Siolo Thompson! My card is The Chariot. It means focus, ambition, self discipline, sacrifice, and victory. I feel like this fits me very well and helps me have confidence in my abilities! The major arcana have been taken out for this project, but I want to see what each card means so I can gain a better understanding of the project overall. Plus, studying the major arcana is a lot of fun. My professor is giving each of us 2 cards for this project. I'm excited to see what I get. I hope I can make it work!

Studying for a map test in my asian civilizations class. A classmate made a study guide for the test and decided to share it with us! He even filled out the map and made a ppt slide for additional information on each country listed! I've been blessed. I printed out the map and outlined it because I really wanted to outline my map in a nice color gradient. I'm working on memorizing and trying not to stress out, but let's be honest...I'm always stressed. I hope I do well! It's worth 10 points and I really want to get an A in this class so I have to ace it. Or else I can't get above a B+/A- according to the professor??
Also I was using a supertip and it came out bubbly? It looked like something was growing on it. So I checked all my other supertips and they're all okay. Maybe I just didn't close that one specific supertip correctly?

hey guys, i know its been a while. i've been dealing with some severe medical problems lately (1+ years?) that have now been speculated as endometriosis. now i'm seeking treatment! it's been a long and painful road, filled with several types of birth control, pills, exams, emergency room visits, and debilitating pain. i'm glad to finally have an idea of what i'm struggling with. my doctor has been so helpful and i'm grateful for him! he's listened to my and my mother's concerns and given us his opinions and made us feel like he cares about me and my health! this condition made it harder for me to attend school during the month finals are taking place and i was scared i would need to drop out again or that i would get c's or b-'s, but surprisingly, i seem to be on track to finish this semester with b+'s or a-'s. despite all these issues i'm glad that i've succeeded and done my best. let's hope i can learn to live a more productive and less painful life now. i'm taking summer classes at my local community college and i'm excited for them! even though math is my weakest subject, i'll work hard to make sure i understand the material in math 980. english is one of my strongest subjects, so english 2010 is something i'm also looking forward to. i also selected my fall semester classes and those are going to be a lot of fun. i just need to get better at taking notes that look nicer, so i can feel more confident about posting them. and getting past my habit of procrastinating. but this year seems to be getting better for me and i'm proud that i made it happen, that my family and my friends support me, and that school is back in my life. i missed learning so much.

Finals are over. It's snowing, and I love my supportive friends so much! I feel confident about the Japanese written exam but there's still that uncertainty that I might have messed up. I have work today and since finals are done I'll be working more and revising notes, swimming, etc. I hope that this new year I can post more personal photos, get better at note taking, improve my handwriting, and continue maintaining my GPA! I hope you guys did well! I believe in all of you!!
