This is Miya's first solo album, and she wanted to express herself through music. She wanted this song to express her as woman and her sensual needs as one, not only that but "Noir" talks about how she was treated differently by the industry because she was the only girl in a boy band and it made her an easy target to mass harrassment online/in the public eye. Yoongi inspired her to record a solo album, He assisted her in producing all of the music for this and even collabed on one of the songs in the album, titled "24 hours" which fueled even more rumors given the song's lyrics and meaning.

She was forced to do the cute and innocent acts in the past, but now that she's in her late twenties, she wanted to show everyone that she has matured into a woman with needs, as the album containing that type of music.

She has caught the attention of many male and female idols over the years, which is not surprising given that she has been dubbed the "Eye candy of Korea" and is everyone's dream girl.

what do u think of sunmi as an artist? idk if it was because she came back as a solo in a long time in 2017 that i fell into the deephole but her last releases (tail/ycswu) was... so boring for me. i think she hit her limit, creatively and sonically, as a soloist. which if you consider it, she's mostly released singles so it's pretty fast. i feel the same about iu now thinking back. 23 and palette were the only two albums that i found myself really enjoying but her current releases feel like they overlap? celebrity, lilac, and strawberry moon...

as an Overall artist, i really love sunmi. i love how she presents herself and she really knows her artistic image. most importantly, she knows how to show it and a lot of idols do not have that ability anymore. in terms of execution, she has some of the best creative concepts still (teasers etc in the current industry) but i do agree they’ve been unimaginative lately compared to the past (my last truly fave release of hers was noir). in terms of image, sunmi is still very strong she’s hit a big wall sonically (i’ve accepted this tho lmao). her songs have this similar but distinct sound with little variation (comes from her consistent work with frants which is killing her creative sound) and she also can only sing in a very limited range. you’ll notice sunmi is very likely to go off key singing live and her voice has never been strong, which makes the sound of her songs so limited. and iu…absolutely…she’s just releasing stuff to release stuff now. she doesn’t seem as inspired as she was in her earlier 20s and she’s truly mellowed out. for both iu and sunmi, i don’t see them changing up bcuz asking them to change would like be asking adele to not release ballads you know?

yena went with a heavily y2k retro school girl inspired look, complete with checkered patterns, tennis skirts, pigtails, sweatervests, headbands knee high socks and all the cliché’s that come with the trope. as her biggest inspirations, yena cites the movie clueless and olivia rodrigo’s sour album (ooc, sunmi’s noir/you can’t sit with us and purple kiss’ zombie also lightly inspired this though that’s not canon). the photoshoot itself is meant to mimic a school notebook, with a paper background filled with silly doodles, stickers and little writing and the pictures of yena layered over top a cutout of a magazine, completing that heavily romanticized american high school look that’s all the rage currently.

ahhh jules now I am dying to know (if you don't mind sharing!) how you envision/would design the filter horror concept and what form (mv/film, photoshoot, etc) would it take if you could make it into anything :o

crying because ive been waiting for someone to ask me this question for TWO YEARS take a seat this is gonna get so long bcs i don't know how to restrain myself 🗣🗣🗣

basically my main inspiration for the filter-by-jimin-horror-concept comes from noir by sunmi, suspiria (2018 remake), perfect blue (1997), black swan (2010), and lady gaga's 2009 performance of paparazzi at the vmas. it needs to be something that emphasizes the uncanny and internal monstrosity/horror/transformation. horror in plain sight, horror right under the surface that is unnoticed by the onlooker until it boils over. whatever it is, there needs to be an emphasis on normalized violation, control from an outside audience, and that control being taken back violently. also doppelgangers. very important.

i think the mots:one shoot was SO CLOSE it just needed to be more on the nose......in my dream world it would have more of a twin peaks/tragic hollywood starlet vibe to it. red curtains, colourful blue eye makeup, etc. the visuals and his place among the blank statues needs to be more on the nose. if they were manequins that were dressed/made up like him instead of statues and he could play around with them, dissassemble them and stuff, i think that would do a better job of capturing on one hand the uncanniness but also the visual of jimin as that vision of "perfection" the statues represent, but with a capitalist twist <3

IF i were to permit myself to be selfish and make up a short film/mv or smt.......i think plot-wise it should follow something like black swan or perfect blue, set in a dance academy/ballet or smt, in which there is a doppelganger trying to replace jimin as their top dancer. the double is everything jimin wants to be, always looking ready for the stage. and as jimin desperately tries to regain control of the situation, he starts to lose himself. at the beginning the double is only present when jimin's performing or practicing, someone only he sees. but then they start swapping places and it becomes hard to tell what's real and what's performance. maybe as jimin starts becoming more desperate, he starts turning against the people around him. first it's by accident against the people who wrong him, then it becomes anyone in his way. and in the end, after the big final confrontation where jimin kills his double backstage, he fixes his outfit and hair before leaving to get on stage. i would also want something insinuating that the whole plot is cyclical - jimin and the double wearing the same outfit at the end or a parallel at the end to the first scene with the double idk but something that shows that jimin just constantly kills version of himself over and over again to become the performance that the audience expects.
