Hallo allemaal,

Hier een eerste blogje van mij. Vrijdag eind van de middag was het eindelijk zover. Ik zat al minstens 2 uur totally ready om te gaan. Dan maar Netflix aan, want de tijd leek zo ongeveer stil te staan. Goed, om 16.30 uur richting Schiphol met Pascal en Kees (superfijn dat ze mij weg wilden brengen). We kwamen rond de klok van 18.00 uur aan en kwamen er meteen achter dat mijn vlucht vertraging had. Ik ging niet om 22.00 uur vertrekken, maar pas om 23.50 uur. Effe wat minder, maar beter dan “cancelled”. Dat zou pas écht erg geweest. Goed, langer wachten dus. Maar, de kids waren ernstig beschikbaar op de app en de tijd vloog. Rond 23.00 uur richting de gate. De laatste van Schiphol volgens mij, verder weg kon niet. Toen ik daar aankwam begreep ik waarom. Het toestel waarmee ik ging vliegen was al aangekomen en met open mond stond ik naar die onwaarschijnlijk grote kist te staren. Niet normaal, wat een joekel van een plane. Een A380 om precies te zijn, dubbeldeks en huge! Het leek overigens wel dat ik de enige was die in opperste verbazing door het glas stond te kijken. Ik had zó de neiging om de anderen te zeggen: hebben jullie wel gezien met wat voor een superplane te gaan vliegen!, maar ik heb me ingehouden. Het zal wel aan mij liggen dat ik in totale verwondering schiet van dit soort dingen. 

Om 00.00 uur vertrokken we en vrijwel direct heb ik mijn eerste film aangezet. Ik dacht: eerst nog efkes een filmpje en dan maffen. Des te sneller ben ik in Dubai. Gelukt! Pas uren later werd ik wakker. Heerlijk! O.k. om 09.30 uur landden we op Dubai. De gate van mijn volgende vlucht ging open om 09.40 uur. Ik had maar één missie: die aansluiting halen. Dus, in militair tempo richting de transfer. Door de bagagecheck, als een robot gefixeerd op het verkrijgen van de info waar ik in hemelsnaam naartoe moest. JA, gevonden. Gate 29. De rest van Dubai airport heb ik compleet gemist. Ik zag maar 1 ding: Gate 29 en ik maar gewoon rennen. En mét resultaat: aansluiting gehaald. O.k. dat was best een dingetje en ik voelde de stress van me afglijden: de rest was peanuts. De vlucht van Dubai naar Brisbane duurde 14 uur, da’s best lang zeg maar. Powernaps, afgewisseld met de ene na de andere film deden het wel. Vervolgens schiet je met zo’n afstand door een aantal tijdzones heen en kwam ik overigens in de tweede verwonderingsmodus: uit hoeveel water de aarde wel niet bestaat. Vlieg je uren aaneen over oceanen, met een gangetje van zo’n 1000 km per uur en nog altijd water onder je. Nooit gerealiseerd hoeveel water we hebben. Afijn, de andere ochtend (ja, we zitten inmiddels op de zondag), kwamen we aan in Brisbane, overstap superrelaxed en toen was het nog maar een paar uurtjes (en weer over water dus) totdat ik om 14.40 uur landde op Christchurch en na de formaliteiten stortte ik me op Iris. O, wat een heerlijkheid na 4 maanden, janken natuurlijk, blij, o, wat een blij gevoel. Ik ben er en samen gaan we hier een onvergetelijke trip van maken, zeker weten. Inmiddels is het maandagmiddag. We hebben heerlijk geslapen (ja, ik ook, gewoon zoals altijd: als een blok beton). Het lijkt erop dat de jetleg ook op vakantie is gegaan, want ik heb goedbeschouwd nergens last van. Maar, dat kan natuurlijk nog komen, dat realiseer ik me. Vandaag doen we het rustig aan. We kletsen bij en hoe fijn is dat alleen al. De hostel is totally o.k., de douche ook. Alles wel hier down under.
